Bears WR Allen Robinson snubbed in 2020 NFL Pro Bowl selections

While the Bears are sending three players to the Pro Bowl, one name notably missing from that list is WR Allen Robinson.

The NFL is loaded with talent, so it’s difficult to please everyone with Pro Bowl selections. But with that said, Bears receiver Allen Robinson was absolutely robbed when he wasn’t chosen as a member of the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl roster.

There is certainly a lot of talent at the receiver position in the NFC — Michael Thomas, Julio Jones and Mike Evans. But Robinson wasn’t even named an alternate, which is just absurd considering the season he’s having.

With Robinson in his first healthy season with the Bears, he’s been the lone bright spot in a sputtering offense. He’s the first Bears receiver to hit 1,000 receiving yards since Alshon Jeffery in 2014, and he’s brought relevancy back to the position.

Robinson has 83 receptions for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns. But perhaps more impressive is that he’s been able to do it in less-than-ideal circumstances.

What Robinson has managed to accomplish in a mediocre offense — with questionable quarterback play and teams knowing that he’s going to be the go-to guy — it’s been astounding.

Maybe if Robinson was playing on a playoff-bound team then he’d get more attention. Given Robinson is only 26 and entering the prime of his career, his name should be on that roster next season.

2 Chargers snubbed from 2020 Pro Bowl

Chargers Wire’s Gavino Borquez believes there were two players from the Los Angeles Chargers that were snubbed from the 2020 Pro Bowl.

On Tuesday night, the rosters for the 2020 Pro Bowl were revealed.

Two members of the Los Angeles Chargers made it: wide receiver Keenan Allen and defensive end Joey Bosa, with defensive end Melvin Ingram and fullback Derek Watt serving as alternates.

Like every year, there were a lot of snubs across the league. For the Chargers, there were other players who should have been traveling to Orlando, FL along with Allen and Bosa.

The first is running back Austin Ekeler. Ekeler wasn’t even named an alternate, which is mind-boggling. The 24-year old is eighth in yards from scrimmage (1,392) and total touchdowns (11).

It’s understanding that Ekeler isn’t the team’s No. 1 running back, but he’s made one of the biggest impacts on the offensive side of the ball. Not to mention, it wouldn’t be surprising if he helped take your fantasy football team to the playoffs.

The other snub is cornerback Casey Hayward. Hayward has made the Pro Bowl twice (2016, 2017), but this season has been one of the best of his eight-year career.

Hayward might not be up there in statistics with other corners across the league, but that’s because opposing quarterbacks rarely throw to his side of the field.

During a four-week stretch, Hayward allowed only one catch for four yards, including games against Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers and Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.

NFL Pro Bowl 2020: Bears’ Eddie Jackson, Khalil Mack, Cordarrelle Patterson named to roster

Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson and Cordarrelle Patterson have been named to the 2020 Pro Bowl.

The 2019 season has been a disappointment for the Chicago Bears as they’ll miss the postseason for the eighth time this decade, but at least three of their players will still have the opportunity to play January football.

Safety Eddie Jackson, kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson and outside linebacker Khalil Mack were named to the NFC squad in the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl.

Punt returner Tarik Cohen, defensive tackle Eddie Goldman and cornerback Kyle Fuller were named alternates.

Jackson, Mack and Patterson are all veterans of the NFL’s all-star game. Jackson, returning for the second-consecutive season, has one interception, one forced fumble and 57 total tackles on the season.

Mack was named to his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl with 7.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and four pass deflections in his second season with the Bears.

Patterson, heading to his third Pro Bowl during his first season with the Bears, leads the league in total kickoff return yards, is second in kickoff return average, and has one touchdown on the season.

Meanwhile, Cohen, Goldman, and Fuller will have the opportunity to participate in the game if one of the starters elects not to play. Should Goldman have the opportunity to play, it will be his first Pro Bowl while Cohen and Fuller would be returning their second.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl takes place Sunday, January 26th at 2 p.m. CT in Orlando, FL.

Nick Bosa among 4 49ers selected to 2020 Pro Bowl

The 49ers had four players get starting nods for the 2020 Pro Bowl.

The 49ers’ scorching hot start to 2019 resulted in a quartet of players earning nods as starters for the 2020 Pro Bowl.

Here are the four players San Francisco will send to the NFL’s all-star game:

DE Nick Bosa – 1st selection

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers’ top pick in the 2019 draft has exceeded expectations in his first season. Bosa has been a wrecking ball off the edge since his debut in Week 1, and while his statistical production has slowed, he’s still wreaking havoc on opposing offensive lines. He has 9.0 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, three pass breakups and an interception. Bosa is a force, and this will very likely not be his only Pro Bowl.

3 Buccaneers selected to the 2020 Pro Bowl

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had three players named to the 2020 Pro Bowl, but one name was noticeably absent.

Tuesday evening at 8pm, the NFL revealed the 2020 Pro Bowl rosters. Given the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ high-powered offense, it would have been shocking for their wide receiving duo not make the team. Both Chris Godwin and Mike Evans were selected to the team, although not listed as starters, since, as you’d expect, as they were both shut down with hamstring injuries.

Evans played 13 games this season before winding up on injured reserve, ending his season with 67 receptions, 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. In Week 12, Evans joined Hall of Fame WR Randy Moss as the only receivers in NFL history to eclipse 1,000 yards in each of their first six seasons. While Godwin’s season isn’t officially over with a similar hamstring injury to Evans, his season will most likely finish with 86 receptions, 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.

The league leader in sacks is the Bucs’ outside linebacker Shaq Barrett with 16.5, tied with Warren Sapp for the Bucs all-time record in a single season- He has two games remaining to stand alone with that record. Barrett signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers in the offseason, and after the year he’s had you can expect the Bucs to do whatever it takes to keep him on the team long-term. Coach Bruce Arians stated he ain’t going anywhere.

Jameis Winston was not selected to the Pro Bowl, which is probably the most Jameis Winston thing that could have happened. In what is nothing short of a conundrum for this season, Winston’s 4,573 passing yards is leading the NFL, his 30 touchdown passes is 2nd only to MVP front-runner, Lamar Jackson’s 33, and of course the blemish is his league-leading 24 interceptions. I’d consider it a snub that he wasn’t named to the team.

3 Seahawks snubbed in 2020 NFL Pro Bowl selection

The Seattle Seahawks had only two players selected to the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl first team. Here are the players who were snubbed.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl rosters were officially announced Tuesday evening and only two Seattle Seahawks were named as starters – quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Both are certainly deserving, but there are more than a few Seahawks who should have also made the cut.

Seven other Seattle players were named as alternates but were clearly snubbed this season, having failed to make the first team.

Here are the three major Pro Bowl snubs this year for the Seahawks.

2020 NFL Pro Bowl snubs: Ryan Ramczyk, Demario Davis illustrate all-star game’s problems

New Orleans Saints all-star right tackle Ryan Ramczyk and starting linebacker Demario Davis were snubbed from the 2020 Pro Bowl roster.

[jwplayer A1HDGD64-ThvAeFxT]

The NFL announced its 2020 Pro Bowl rosters, and seven members of the New Orleans Saints made the initial cut — a franchise record. Mainstays like wide receiver Michael Thomas and quarterback Drew Brees were among them, and were joined by newcomers like rookie returns specialist Deonte Harris. It’s been a heck of a year for the Saints, and all of these Pro Bowlers gathered together are proof it.

However, some glaring absences highlight issues with the archaic Pro Bowl ballot. Left tackles and right tackles are jumbled together into one “offensive tackle” category, which means talented pass-protectors like the Saints’ Ryan Ramczyk are left out altogether. Ramczyk routinely shuts down the league’s best sack artists, but he was overlooked by three left tackles — each of them deserving of their spots, no doubt.

One of the players Ramczyk erased twice this year, Shaquil Barrett, was voted into the Pro Bowl over Saints linebacker Demario Davis. That’s a problem because they play two very different positions, but are treated the same by the ballot’s bad design. Davis is a true outside linebacker who spends his Sundays dropping back into coverage and patrolling the middle of the field; Barrett is a hand-in-the-dirt pass rusher, and his prolific numbers put him ahead of Davis.

Just how poorly designed is the Pro Bowl ballot? Taysom Hill wasn’t even an option, and he’s been one of the NFL’s most electrifying talents this year. The do-it-all quarterback has lined up at fullback, tight end, slot receiver, and filled in on a plethora of special teams roles, scoring six combined touchdowns along the way. But the NFL didn’t even make him eligible for fans to vote into the all-star game, which is a travesty.

Sure, there were other snubs. But they speak more to poor decisions by the voting public than the problems written into the NFL’s ballot. Saints punter Thomas Morstead was overlooked for Washington Redskins specialist Tress Way. Morstead has landed a career-best 51% of his punts inside the opposing 20-yard line this year (25 of 49), whereas Way did so on just 37% of his punts (26 of 70). He’s also committed just one touchback all season, while Way has seen three of his punts roll into the end zone. Somehow, voters chose to reward Way for punting often rather than punting well. Shameful.

Free safeties Budda Baker and Eddie Jackson were each voted into the Pro Bowl, but they’ve combined for one (1) interception and ten pass breakups between the two of them. Compare that to Marcus Williams, who leads the Saints with four interceptions, a number that also leads all safeties in the NFC. He’s credited with 14 total passes defensed on the year so far, too. Whether voters are letting Williams’ mistakes in big moments cloud their judgment or are voting based off of name recognition doesn’t matter; they got this wrong.

Then again, this isn’t the end-all, be-all. Several Saints are likely on the list of alternates to fill in for players who are either injured or uninterested in playing in the Pro Bowl, which will open the door for those snubbed to get some time in the limelight. Don’t be shocked if some of these Saints players who have battled injuries — like left tackle Terron Armstead — choose to sit out and rest up during the offseason.

But as far as that goes, you can ask any of them: they’d rather spend the week in Orlando preparing for this exhibition game getting ready to compete in Super Bowl LIV. At the end of the day, these honorifics are nice to have, but there’s a higher level yet to climb.

Jamal Adams named to Pro Bowl for second straight year

Jamal Adams has been named to his second straight Pro Bowl.

Two years ago, Jamal Adams tweeted that he would never miss a Pro Bowl. Since then, he’s two for two.

Adams was named to his second straight Pro Bowl Tuesday. He led all strong safeties in the AFC in votes. His latest selection follows a Pro Bowl performance in which he won the game’s Defensive MVP Award.

The 24-year-old star safety was having an amazing season before spraining his ankle against the Bengals. In 12 games, Adams has 52 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, six pass defenses, one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two touchdowns.

While this season has been great for Adams on the field, there have been some issues off the field. His name was brought up in trade rumors at the trade deadline and that didn’t sit well with him. The Jets didn’t end up trading him, but Adams was still upset and refused to talk to Joe Douglas afterward. Since then, Adams has cleared the air with ownership, Douglas and Adam Gase.

Adams should be able to play in the Pro Bowl should he choose to. He may not return for the last two regular season games due to the ankle injury, but the Pro Bowl is over a month away, so he should be healed by the time the exhibition in Orlando comes around.

Pair of Chargers selected to 2020 Pro Bowl

Keenan Allen and Joey Bosa have been selected to represent the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2020 Pro Bowl.

The votes are in and there are two players from the Los Angeles Chargers that are headed to Orlando, FL.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen and defensive end Joey Bosa have been selected to represent the Chargers in the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL.

This marks the second time Bosa has been selected to the Pro Bowl. In his fourth NFL season, his 10.5 sacks lead the team and are No. 8 in the NFL, the third time in four NFL seasons he has reached double-digit sacks.

For Allen, this marks his third consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl. Allen, arguably one of the league’s best route runners, has 90 receptions, 1,046 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games.

Defensive end Melvin Ingram was named a first-team alternate and Derek Watt earned first-team alternate on special teams and second-team alternate at fullback.

Seahawks Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner named Pro Bowl starters

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner were both named to the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive year.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl rosters were announced on Tuesday night, and two Seattle Seahawks made the cut as starters for the NFC squad.

Quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner will both be making their sixth career Pro Bowl appearances.

Wilson has already proven himself worthy of the mega-contract extension he signed over the offseason, putting together an MVP campaign through 14 games. He’s completed 300 passes for 3,708 yards with an excellent 28-to-five touchdown-to-interception ratio.

While he finished second behind Lamar Jackson of the Ravens in fan voting, it’s clear Wilson is among the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod is even more proof of that.

Wagner, also fresh off a contract extension, already has 139 combined tackles this season – topping last year’s mark and on pace to break his career-high of 168, set in 2016. All set to make his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and potentially his fourth consecutive year as an All-Pro, Wagner is continuing to cement himself as the best linebacker of his era, and a future Hall of Famer.

The Seahawks also had seven players selected as alternates: wide receiver Tyler Lockett, tackle Duane Brown, running back Chris Carson, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, safety Quandre Diggs, cornerback Shaquill Griffin and guard Mike Iupati.

Punter Michael Dickson, notably, was not selected despite leading the NFC in fan voting at the punter position.

The 2020 Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 and televised live on ESPN at noon PT from Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
