Contract numbers revealed for Falcons cornerback Antonio Hamilton and defensive tackle Eddie Goldman

As we get closer to the 2024 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons have started adding depth at positions of need. Last week, the team signed veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman and cornerback Antonio Hamilton.

Both players signed one-year contracts, but the terms of those deals weren’t initially disclosed. Thanks to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, now we know.

Goldman, who came out of retirement to join the team, is getting a $1.21 million base salary with a cap hit of $985,000. Hamilton is getting slightly more this season, signing a one-year, $1.21 million contract with a $167,500 signing bonus:

The Falcons have since added two more defensive players to their roster. On Monday, the team signed former Redskins defensive end James Smith-Williams to a one-year deal along with former Packers cornerback Kevin King.

According to Over The Cap’s latest projections, Atlanta has roughly $5.9 million in salary cap space going into the draft. In other Falcons news, cornerback Clark Phillips III changed his jersey number on Wednesday.

Falcons sign veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman

The Falcons have officially signed veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, the team announced on Wednesday

The Atlanta Falcons have officially signed veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon. As Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network first reported on Tuesday, Goldman lands in Atlanta two years after signing with the team in 2022.

The 32-year-old nose tackle retired two weeks after signing his initial contract and nearly returned in 2023 but chose to stay retired. Goldman was a force on the interior of the Chicago Bears defensive line from 2015 to 2021.

The Falcons have some quality linemen in Grady Jarrett and David Onyemata, but neither player is a true nose tackle. Goldman has started 73 games, racking up 175 total tackles, 13 sacks and 21 QB hits over his six-year NFL career.

Falcons signing retired DT Eddie Goldman, per report

The Falcons are expected to sign veteran DT Eddie Goldman, again…

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to sign retired defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Goldman, 32, signed with the Falcons back in 2022 before changing his mind and retiring just two weeks later.

Goldman was reinstated one year later by the team and nearly returned in 2023 before changing his mind once again. It looks like the deal may finally come together two years later.

The Falcons needed a nose tackle as they plan to run a base 3-4 defense this season under defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake. Goldman’s signing would make some sense as the team just released second-year defensive lineman Ikenna Enechukwu on Tuesday afternoon.

Goldman has started 73 games since being selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears. The veteran defensive tackle has racked up 175 total tackles, 13 sacks and 21 QB hits over his six-year career.

Falcons reinstate retired DT Eddie Goldman

The #Falcons have reinstated retired defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, the team announced Tuesday

In July of 2022, the Atlanta Falcons signed defensive tackle Eddie Goldman in a move that would have bolstered a thin defensive line. However, less than two weeks after agreeing to terms with the Falcons, Goldman abruptly retired.

This led to some trolling on the part of Atlanta’s rivals, including Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan. However, it appears Goldman just needed some time to warm up to the idea. The 29-year-old defensive veteran has been reinstated by the Falcons, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Goldman has started 73 of 81 games since entering the league in 2015 as a second-round pick out of Florida State. During his seven-year NFL career — spent entirely with the Chicago Bears — Goldman racked up 175 combined tackles, 13 sacks and 21 QB hits.

The Falcons have already added defensive tackle David Onyemata in free agency and have Grady Jarrett under contract through 2025.

Grading the Bears’ signing of DT Andrew Billings

Andrew Billings immediately upgrades the Bears run defense at a reasonable cost. Here is our grade of the signing.

Defensive line was a glaring weakness for the Chicago Bears throughout the 2022 season and general manger Ryan Poles took another step towards improving it for 2023. The Bears signed former Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Andrew Billings to a one-year deal on Thursday. It’s their second addition to the line after signing DeMarcus Walker earlier in the week.

Billings was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round in 2016 but missed his rookie season due to a torn meniscus. He bounced back in 2017 and has had a modest career up to this point. Last year for the Raiders, Billings notched a career-high 39 total tackles (three for a loss), and one sack. He joins the Bears as someone who will rotate in as an interior lineman who will hopefully be a solution when it comes to stopping the run. Here is our initial grade of the move.

Former Chicago Bears nose tackle Eddie Goldman is calling it a career. Goldman is retiring after six seasons, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Goldman was set to have a $11.8 million cap hit in 2022, which was the fourth-highest on the team. His release freed up $6.7 million in cap space.
