Bears Injury Report: Mitchell Trubisky full participant in Wednesday’s practice

The Bears released their first injury report of the week, and QB Mitchell Trubisky was a full-go in preparation for the Giants.

The Chicago Bears got good news regarding the status of starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on Wednesday.

Trubisky, who suffered a hip pointer against the Los Angeles Rams, was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

The injury occurred near the end of the first half as he scrambled trying to buy some time to find an open receiver. Trubisky was kneed in the hip by Michael Brockers. He tried to play through it, and he even led the offense on an 80-yard scoring drive to open the third quarter, but eventually the injury began wearing on him.

Matt Nagy pulled Trubisky with less than four minutes left in the game with the Bears trailing by 10. At the time, many wondered if the decision was performance-based. But Nagy confirmed it was indeed an injury-based decision.

Right tackle Bobby Massie, who suffered a shoulder injury against the Rams, was also a full participant in practice.

There was an encouraging sign for linebacker Isaiah Irving, who returned to practice for the first time in three weeks, as he nurses a quad injury. Irving has missed the last three games, and he’s been relieved by linebacker James Vaughters.

Things don’t look so good for tight end Adam Shaheen (foot), who did not practice Wednesday. After being a healthy scratch Wed

Marquette lands 2020 five-star Minnesota prospect Dawson Garcia

Marquette has added the crown jewel to its critical 2020 men’s basketball recruiting class in 6-foot-11 Minnesota native Dawson Garcia.

Marquette has added the crown jewel to its critical 2020 men’s basketball recruiting class.

Dawson Garcia, a 6-foot-11 forward from Prior Lake, Minnesota, committed to the Golden Eagles and signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday, the last day of the fall signing period.

Garcia is rated the No. 31 prospect in the 2020 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Garcia also had been considering Indiana, Minnesota and Memphis.

MU head coach Steve Wojciechowski has three commitments for next season’s team. Garcia joins 6-7 forward Justin Lewis from Baltimore and 6-9 forward Oso Ighodaro from Chandler, Arizona. That class is ranked seventh in the national and No. 1 in the Big East by 247 Sports.

The trio will likely form a versatile and interchangeable frontcourt for the Golden Eagles. Garcia projects to be an inside-out scorer, Lewis a physical rebounder and Ighodaro a ball-handler and slasher. All three have long wingspans and are switchable on defense at all the big positions.

The class is crucial for MU’s future with all-time leading scorer Markus Howard, Sacar Anim, Ed Morrow Jr. and Jayce Johnson leaving after this season.

Garcia is the latest talented player MU has recruited from Minnesota. Golden Eagles senior forward Anim (DeLaSalle High School) and junior center Theo John (Champlin Park) also hail from the Minneapolis area. Two of Garcia’s AAU teammates with D1 Minnesota, Steven Crowl and Ben Carlson, are committed to the University of Wisconsin’s 2020 class.

Wojciechowski and his coaching staff recruited Garcia hard, offering him a scholarship in June 2018. Wojciechowski and associate head coach Stan Johnson made many trips last winter to watch Garcia’s games at Prior Lake High School.

“Dawson is one of the top players in the United States,” Wojciechowski said in a statement. “He’s a position-less player with great versatility and competitiveness and can be one of the top players throughout his time at Marquette.”

Garcia took an official visit to MU last February, watching from the stands at Fiserv Forum as the Golden Eagles beat Villanova, 66-65. He took a second official visit earlier this month.

Mike Evans and Chris Godwin truly are the league’s dynamic duo

A quick look at the stats proves that Buccaneers receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin truly are the best duo in the NFL today.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be just 3-7, but their offense is once again one of the best in the league. The Bucs currently rank sixth in both overall offense and scoring offense, and a big reason for that has been the stellar play of their wide receiving duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Evans, the franchise’s all-time leader in receiving yards, is inching ever-closer to another 1,000-yard season, which would tie him with Hall of Famer Randy Moss for the most 1,000-yard seasons to start a career (6).

Godwin, meanwhile, may not be the franchiser receiver Evans is (yet), but he’s made a huge impact in his third season with the Bucs. Godwin had six touchdown receptions in the team’s first five games, and has already set a new career-high in receiving yards with 887.

And, this graphic from the NFL shows just how great the duo of Evans and Godwin has been this season.

Take a look.

How about giving a little love to the NFC South here? Four of the top five receivers in the league right now are on NFC South teams. Michael Thomas, Julio Jones and Evans are names you’d usually expect to see atop this list at some point during the season, but credit Godwin for putting his stamp on this season.

Hopefully, when the Bucs travel to Atlanta in Week 12, Godwin and Evans can both help carry the team to victory. That is, of course, if Jameis Winston can avoid turning the ball over.

Falcons Week 12 injury report: 7 players miss practice on Wednesday

Those who sat out included QB Matt Ryan, TE Austin Hooper, RB Devonta Freeman and DE Adrian Clayborn. While this many players missing practice would normally be a bad sign, it’s more likely that the team is just being overly cautious.

The Falcons got back to work on Wednesday after their Week 11 win over the Panthers, but seven players did not participate in practice.

Those who sat out included QB Matt Ryan, TE Austin Hooper, RB Devonta Freeman and DE Adrian Clayborn. While this many players missing practice would normally be a bad sign, it’s more likely that the team is just being overly cautious.

Atlanta is on a two-game winning streak, and while Freeman and Hooper are unlikely to play in Sunday’s game against the Panthers, the rest of the injuries aren’t as concerning.

How great is the Texans’ quarterback situation for the future?

The Houston Texans have a promising situation at quarterback for the future with Deshaun Watson. Where does that compare to the rest of the NFL?

The Houston Texans have a young quarterback in Deshaun Watson that provides the club a chance to win virtually every ballgame. But with the Pro Bowler still on his rookie deal, how exactly does their quarterback situation shape up?

According to Touchdown Wire’s latest rankings of all 32 teams’ future QB rankings, the Texans have the sixth-best situation in the league.

The Texans undoubtedly will exercise Deshaun Watson’s fifth-year option for 2021, but they also will be looking to sign him to a long-term extension. At 24, Watson already has shown he’s a franchise quarterback. This season, he has thrown for 2,601 yards and 18 touchdowns while also rushing for 291 yards and five touchdowns. A.J. McCarron is the backup, but the Texans hope Watson never has to leave the field. “Watson already is approaching elite status,” a panelist said. “In two or three years, he’ll be one of the best in the league.”

Watson was having quite the MVP campaign until he threw for 169 yards and an interception in the Texans’ 41-7 loss at the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11 at M&T Bank Stadium.

What is interesting is that the Atlanta Falcons are a spot ahead of the Texans. Certainly it is reasonable to have the Chiefs No. 1, Seahawks second, Dallas at No. 3, and the Ravens fourth-best. However, the Falcons have an aging quarterback and the team is in the midst of another wasting the efforts of Matt Ryan with a dynamic receiving tandem in Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. While there are cases such as Tom Brady and Drew Brees being able to play into their forties at a high level, there are also cases such as Tony Romo of taking took many injuries in the late thirties and Joe Flacco, who has lost it altogether.

How the Falcons’ situation is better than the Texans andWatson is questionable.

5 reasons why Georgia football will beat TAMU on Saturday

Here are five reasons why UGA football will beat the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday in Athens, Georgia.

[jwplayer NbVtfHKC-er0jUifI]

This Saturday, the No. 4 ranked Georgia Bulldogs (9-1) host the unranked Texas A&M Aggies (7-3) in Athens.

Georgia, with its win over Auburn last weekend, clinched its spot in its third consecutive SEC Championship. The Aggies, on the other hand, were given college football’s hardest schedule and have lost to Clemson, Auburn and Alabama. Additionally, they still have to play LSU at the end of the season.

Despite being ranked No. 23 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25, Texas A&M stayed unranked in the College Football Playoff rankings.

But do not sleep on Jimbo Fisher’s group. His team is coming off of a bye week and most recently beat South Carolina 30-6, the same team that beat Georgia in October.

We got the Dawgs winning, and you can see why below, but the DawgNation will come out and be loud on Saturday at 3:30.

Here are five reasons why Georgia beats Texas A&M.

Witten on Cowboys-Patriots tilt: ‘There are defining games that happen.. this is one’

The 16-year veteran knows some games are bigger than others, and Sunday’s showdown in New England could be a season-defining one for Dallas.

If Sunday’s upcoming Cowboys-Patriots matchup feels like a more monumental game than normal, that’s because it is, with both squads trying to maintain their spots in the postseason chase. It’s the dangerous and streaky Dallas offense against the stifling and surprising New England defense. It’s rising star Dak Prescott’s chance to outgun the veteran Tom Brady and perhaps even signal a changing of the guard of sorts among the league’s quarterbacks. It’s one coach who’s still trying to cement a reputation as a brilliant football mind and motivator matching wits with the unparalleled genius on the opposite sideline. It’s the sport’s two marquee franchises in a regular season showdown that will be a ratings bonanza and spur plenty of wouldn’t-this-be-a-great-Super-Bowl talk among even casual fans.

Most players tend to stay on an even keel when looking ahead to their opponents, being careful not to undersell or overhype any team on the schedule. But the fact is, any-given-Sundays aside, some games are just bigger. Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has been in quite a few over his 16 seasons. And he says the Week 12 clash with the Patriots is a measuring-stick kind of game.

“Yeah, I think it is,” Witten said, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “There are defining games that happen. You look at last year’s season… and you beat a good New Orleans team. This is one of those games. There’s still a lot of games out there, so I don’t think it’s make-or-break. But at the same time, to be able to go on the road and play against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and their team, they’re 9-1 like they are. A great opportunity for us.”

While Dallas has overcome slow starts in several of their six wins this season, early errors have also dug deep holes in all four of their losses. Witten knows that the Cowboys can not afford to similarly waste the first quarter in Foxborough against this particular Patriots unit.

“They’re going to pounce on any mistake you make,” Witten said. “They’re prepared. They’re fundamentally sound. Their in-game adjustments are just at a higher level than anybody else in the league. [Belichick has] done it at that level for so long. And specifically as an offense going [against] him, I think his defense right now, when I watch them on tape, if it’s not the best defense he’s ever had, it’s got to be up there in the top. It’s a big challenge for us. So much respect for him. Greatest coach to ever coach in the NFL.”

A slow start is tough to overcome against a Belichick team. But turnovers are downright fatal. As NFL.com’s Nick Shook points out, “New England owns a plus-18 turnover differential through 11 weeks, a mark that’s twice as good as the next nearest teams (Green Bay and Pittsburgh are tied at plus-nine). The Cowboys, meanwhile, own a minus-one differential.”

A stray ball from an overly-greedy Prescott (like his Week 3 interception versus Miami) or Ezekiel Elliott putting one on the turf (as he did on the second play of the game in Detroit) could prove to be catastrophic if it happens against an elite opponent like New England; the Patriots have scored six touchdowns on defense and special teams thus far this season.

Witten and the Cowboys know they may well have to play a mistake-free game to notch a season-defining victory over the reigning Super Bowl champions.

“Our guys are up for the challenge,” Witten promised. “We’ve got a lot of healthy respect for them, but just like any other week, you’ve got to prepare and know that you’re going to have to go play your best football.”
