All-Big East forward Oso Ighodaro declares for 2024 NBA draft

Ighodaro was named to the All-Big East second team after averaging 13.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals.

Marquette senior forward Oso Ighodaro announced on social media that he will forgo his remaining college eligibility and declare for the 2024 NBA draft.

Ighodaro was named to the All-Big East second team after averaging 13.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals on 57.6% shooting from the field in 36 games. He ranked fourth in the conference in field-goal percentage and eighth in win shares (5.2).

The 6-foot-11 standout became the 53rd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points (1,078) this past season. He registered seven 20-point games, including a season-high 24 points and five rebounds on March 9 in a win over Xavier.

https://www.instagram.com/p/C5jhMcGvVM8/

Ighodaro is considered a potential first-round pick this year. He emerged as a tremendous playmaker and offensive connector for the Golden Eagles with his vision and passing ability. He was also dominant at times in the post and can finish with either hand.

He will have the opportunity to improve his draft positioning in team interviews and workouts over the pre-draft process. He could also be invited to compete in the G League Elite Camp or draft combine next month in Chicago, Illinois.

The 2024 NBA draft will take place June 26-27 in New York City.

2025 NCAA basketball championship odds: Who is favored? Will UConn 3-peat?

Looking at the 2025 NCAA basketball championship odds as the 2023-24 season just wrapped up.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

It’s never too soon to think about next season.

While the UConn Huskies were finishing off the Purdue Boilermakers Monday in Glendale, Ariz, other programs — and players — have already set their focus on what it will take to get to the 2025 National Championship Game in San Antonio’s Alamodome next April 7.

Numerous players have entered the transfer portal, from FAU G Johnell Davis to Arizona C Oumar Ballo. Davis reportedly will test the waters and enter the NBA Draft.

Florida G Walter Clayton Jr., LSU G Jalen Cook and even USC G Bronny James are among a group who have declared or reportedly will declare for the upcoming draft.

Coaches are on the move, too. Sources have John Calipari leaving Kentucky for SEC rival Arkansas. He would replace Eric Musselman, who is headed to USC … which lost Andy Enfield to SMU.

So, who will win the championship next season?

Kevin Harlan didn’t flinch on the call as a Marquette player leaped over his head during March Madness

“He flew right over my head!”

Kevin Harlan, as we all know, is absolutely unflappable when he’s on the microphone.

Whether he’s calling games on the radio or television, the longtime play-by-play announcer has a knack for transforming the weirdest and wildest moments into some of the most memorable.

Harlan did just that a few days ago when confetti mistakenly dropped early during the A-10 title game and who could forget his all-timer of a call when the Furman’s upset of Virginia last year nearly knocked him out of his chair?

Well, Friday’s slate of March Madness games gave us another call to put in the Harlan Hall of Fame. While broadcasting the No. 2 Marquette – No. 15 Western Kentucky game on TBS, Golden Eagles guard Chase Ross attempted to chase a ball out of bounds and ended up hurdling the announcers table.

Harlan, the true pro that he is, didn’t lose his concentration for a moment and delivered another epic narration:

“He flew right over my head!” tells you everything you need to know about what just happened.

Kevin Harlan remains a national treasure. Here’s hoping players keep soaring over him and never into him.

South Region expert pick and prediction

Houston Cougars (+140)

Houston got blown out 69-41 by Iowa State in Saturday’s Big 12 championship game. But the Cougars had previously been 6-0 with impressive defensive analytics in neutral-site contests.

UH won 11 in a row before Saturday, and its ball-hawking, shot-swatting defense should travel well just about anywhere in the brackets. Coach Kelvin Sampson’s Cougar teams have made 3 straight Sweet 16s, and Houston gets a fair return here (although consider holding off to see if the Cougars drift up toward +160 or so).

Top 25: USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

South Region contenders

Kentucky Wildcats (+700)

UK (23-9) had an early exit in the SEC Tournament, but the Wildcats won 7 of 8 games from Feb. 13-March 9, beating a trio of KenPom top-15 squads along the way.

Appropriately enough, Kentucky is the speedy colt in this South Region field. The Wildcats play an up-tempo, high-scoring brand of basketball. They are a relatively young team that appears to have grown since an off-kilter mid-winter stretch that saw the team lose 5 times between Jan. 13-Feb. 10. If UK can be responsible in defending the 3 and keep making improvements on the offensive glass, it will be a value at +500, let alone the current figure.

Wisconsin Badgers (+1200)

UW (22-13) made it to the Big Ten title game before being ousted by Illinois. But the Badgers led that championship game by 9 inside the 15-minute mark before failing to close against an Illini 5 that went 26-of-30 at the foul line.

Wisconsin beat No. 3-ranked Purdue in a Saturday Big Ten semifinal, and the Badgers had played the Boilermakers tough in an earlier loss.

South Region long shots

NC State Wolfpack (+4200)

NC State (22-14) has the hot hand. The Wolfpack beat both Duke and North Carolina en route to winning the ACC Tournament. And that tourney run came after NCSU had lost 4 straight games from Feb. 27-March 9.

North Carolina State has a slew of veteran players and is putting together better defensive performances of late. The Wolfpack are certainly not odds-on favorites but are worth a flier at this level of return.

Colorado Buffaloes (+3400)

Colorado (24-10) is a bit of a live wire. The Buffs will have to earn the 10-seed in a First Four contest (against Boise State) in Dayton, but they have some NBA-type talent and present some value at this number.

The Buffaloes are 8-1 in their last 9 games, and their defense has been considerably improved over that stretch. CU presents a tough at-the-rim and beyond-the-arc challenge for defenses. If Marquette or Kentucky were to falter in Colorado’s section of the South bracket, the Buffs could very well be the team there to pick up the pieces.

Duke announced as the No. 4 seed in the South region

The Blue Devils, the No. 4 seed in the South region, will begin their March Madness run with a first-round matchup against Vermont.

Duke knows its March Madness path.

The NCAA Tournament field was set during Selection Sunday, and the Blue Devils officially dropped down to a No. 4 seed in the South region after an ACC quarterfinal loss to NC State.

Duke drew No. 13 Vermont in the opening round, a 28-6 team from the America East conference ranked 104th in KenPom’s adjusted efficiency metric.

Houston, who spent much of the winter as the No. 1 team in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and still sits atop KenPom’s rankings, drew the top seed in the region. Marquette and Kentucky slotted in as the second and third seed in the South.

If the Blue Devils win their first-round matchup, they would play either No. 5 Wisconsin or No. 12 James Madison in the second.
