Priest Holmes, Running Back
Priest Holmes was known more for his NFL career than college. At Texas he played behind a future Heisman Trophy winner in Ricky Williams. In 1994, the year before Williams arrived Holmes ran for 524 yards and five touchdowns. He didn’t play in 1995 but would return the following year. That season he only carried the ball 59 times but amassed an obscene 13 rushing touchdowns. Williams who carried the load had 12 himself.
Accomplishments:
- Finished UT career ranked No. 25 on the all-time rushing list
- Selected team captain after rushing for three touchdowns and 120 yards in the victory over Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game
- Ended 1994 season by earning Sun Bowl MVP honors as he rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns in victory over North Carolina
- Signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 1997 and went on to become a three-time Pro Bowl running back for the Kansas City Chiefs
- Despite injuries, he went on to become one of the most prolific individual offensive performers for the Chiefs, owning 10 different career records and eight single-season marks
- Named to the Texas High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2006
- Hall of Honor inductee in 2007
