Longhorns well-represented on 2021 Texas Sports Hall of Fame Ballot

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame listed their ballot for the 2021 class. The Longhorns have nine former athletes up for induction.

Kamie Ethridge, Point Guard

Kamie Ethridge joined the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team in 1982. She would help the Longhorns under Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt win the National Championship in 1986. She was the first women to have here jersey retired at the University of Texas. Ethridge started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas. She received her first opportunity as a head coach in 2014 with Northern Colorado. She became the Cougars head coach at Washington State in 2018.

Accomplishments:

  • 1985-86 recipient of the Honda Broderick Cup Award as collegiate women’s athlete of the year
  • Member of 1986 National Championship team; named to the Women’s Final Four All-Tournament Team
  • Two-time All-American
  • 1985-86 Margaret Wade Trophy recipient and Naismith National Player of the Year
  • Concluded her UT career first in all-time assists (776) and seventh in steals (278) with 825 career points
  • Member of the Texas Women’s Athletics Hall of Fame
  • Member of gold-medal 1988 Olympic team, gold-medal 1987 Pan American Games team and gold-medal 1986 U.S. World Championship team
  • Currently head women’s basketball coach at Washington State University
  • Hall of Honor Inductee in 2000
