Recruited to Notre Dame as a running back, Golden Tate was able to showcase those skills whenever he had the ball in his hands. And sure, he possessed many of the requisite skills for a dominant wide receiver. That fact led him to become the only Biletnikoff winner from Notre Dame. And it also helped that he lined up alongside Michael Floyd. But whenever Tate got the ball in open space, you knew he was going to pick up extra yards by either using his speed to blow by them, his size to squeeze through the tightest of creases, his instincts to duck and dodge defenders flying by, or by using his bowling ball like build to go through them. He’s right up there with Jerome Bettis in the “toughest Notre Dame offensive players to tackle” argument. Tate had a nose for the end zone and he wasn’t going to let anyone catch him if he could.
