The Huskers came off a historic upset win over No. 1 Purdue with a road game against conference rival Iowa on Friday night. Unlike its game against Purdue, Nebraska fell to the Hawkeyes 94-76.

Like its losses to Creighton and Wisconsin, the Huskers fell behind Iowa and couldn’t erase the deficit as the game went on. The Hawkeyes’ lead grew over Nebraska due to the margin between the teams in 3-point shooting. Iowa landed 15-of-35 shots from beyond the arc, while Nebraska only mustered up 4-of-26.

Rienk Mast and Josiah Allick shared the top spot as Nebraska’s leading scorer, dropping 14 points in the loss. Keisei Tominaga finished runner-up in scoring for Nebraska, delivering 13 points for the Huskers. Freshman Eli Rice rounded out the Huskers that cracked double-digits in points scored, tallying up 11 on the night, his third double-digit outing of the season.

The Huskers fall to 13-4 on the season and will face Rutgers on the road on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Another Power Five wide receiver is transferring to Nebraska. Jahmal Banks from Wake Forest announced on Twitter he is transferring to Nebraska for his final year of eligibility.

Banks played four seasons for the Demon Deacons before hitting the portal back in December 2023. Before Nebraska, the 6-foot-4, 205-pounder took trips to Wisconsin, Purdue, Notre Dame, Minnesota, and Michigan.

The former three-star prospect played in 44 games at Wake Forest and became a full-time starter last season. In the past two seasons, Banks hauled in 101 catches for 1,289 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Banks now joins a packed wide receiver room at Nebraska, joining Malachi Coleman, Jaylen Lloyd, and Jeremiah Charles, along with newcomers like Texas wide receiver Isaiah Neyor.
Along with Neyor, Banks also joins the growing number of transfers Nebraska picked up this offseason. Other transfers include running back Dante Dowdell of Oregon and offensive guard Micah Mazzccua from Florida.

Former Husker Casey Thompson commits to Oklahoma

A former Husker is returning home to finish his college football career.

A former Husker is returning home to finish his college football career. Quarterback Casey Thompson announced on Twitter that he is transferring to Oklahoma for his final year of eligibility.

Thompson spent one year at Nebraska after spending four seasons at Texas. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma native would then transfer to Florida Atlantic but would tear his ACL three games into the 2023 season.

Thompson will be the third quarterback in his family to don the Sooner jersey, joining his brother, Kendal, and his father, Oklahoma legend Charles Thompson.

In his career, Thompson played 32 games and threw for 5,338 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. His best season came in his lone year at Nebraska, despite not playing in every game. Thompson threw for 2,407 yards, 17 touchdowns, and ten interceptions.

Men’s basketball takes down No. 1 Purdue in historic upset

This is the first time Nebraska took down the No. 1 team in the nation since 1982.

The last time Nebraska men’s basketball squared off against Purdue in Lincoln, the No. 1 Boilermakers escaped in overtime, 65-62. This time around, the Huskers didn’t let No. 1 Purdue leave with a win. Instead, Nebraska achieved the historic upset, taking down the Boilermakers 88-72.

This is the first time Nebraska took down the No. 1 team in the nation since 1982. The Huskers held on to the lead for a majority of the game, including the entire second half. As a team, Nebraska finished 29-of-57 in total shooting, 14-of-23 in 3-point shooting and 16-of-19 in free throw shooting.

Keisei Tominaga appeared unstoppable in the win for the Huskers, despite only scoring 19 points. Tominaga went five-of-12 in total shooting but landed a season-high five-of-nine shots from beyond the arc.

Rienk Mast finished just behind Tominaga in scoring, dropping 18 points by going eight-of-17 in total shooting. C.J. Wilcher also delivered big in shooting, scoring 16 points off the bench and landing three-of-four shots from beyond the arc.

Nebraska now moves to 13-3 and are three wins from matching their season total last year. The Huskers will hit the road for their next matchup against Big Ten rival Iowa on Friday night. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Frank Solich to be inducted into the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame

The 2024 College Football Hall of Fame added a former Husker to the class.

The 2024 College Football Hall of Fame added a former Husker to the class. Nebraska alumni Frank Solich will be the 22nd Husker to be inducted into the hall of fame and is Nebraska’s first inductee since 2022 when Zach Wiegert earned an induction.

Solich played and coached for Nebraska, serving as the Huskers’ fullback and head coach. As a fullback, Solich joined Bob Devaney’s first recruiting class and finished as a three-year letterman. In his final season, Solich was named All-Big Eight fullback and the Huskers’ 1965 team co-captain.

He still holds the school’s single-game rushing record for fullbacks, which he set in 1965 against Air Force. In the game, Solich rushed for 204 yards, which added to his season rushing total of 580 yards.

Following his playing career, Solich rejoined Nebraska’s football team as a coach in 1979, coaching the freshmen and then the running backs until 1998. Solich then took over as head coach upon Tom Osborne’s retirement and held the role until 2003 before being let go.

In his tenure as the Huskers’ head coach, Solich went 58-19, leading Nebraska to bowl games each year, including the Fiesta Bowl in 1999 and the Rose Bowl in 2001. Solich then joined the University of Ohio as its head coach and remained there until 2020, when he officially retired.

Solich finished his coaching career with a record of 173-101 in games and 7-9 in bowl games.

It was announced on Jan. 6 that Aggie cornerback Josh DeBerry had accepted his invite to the 2024 Hula Bowl taking place in Orlando.

The game will be another opportunity to showcase his skills in front of scouts across many leagues while competing with other athletes across the globe. Below, you can find out about the game and where some of the attendees will be traveling from:

Over the past 70 years of history, the Hula Bowl has had hundreds of stories of athletes that shined in the game and thereby caught the attention of scouts from the NFL, XFL, USFL, and CFL leagues. Outstanding performances at the Hula Bowl will enhance the athlete’s opportunities for taking their football career to the next level and ensuring a promising future!

This year, the game will include NCAA college football players from all divisions, along with international players from Japan. In addition, the game will always include Polynesian players with historic ties to the Islands.

Texas A&M (9-5, 0-1) hosted the LSU Tigers (9-5, 1-0) on Saturday night at Reed Arena and had their worst shooting output of the season, falling to the Tigers in the conference opener.

The pre-season SEC Player of the Year, Wade Taylor the IV, did all he could to keep the Aggies in the game with his 24 points and 6 steals. He put up an admirable fight, but a poor shooting outing from the entire team wasn’t enough to overcome a determined LSU Tigers team.

He gave his thoughts on the shot selection when asked about the low percentage they are averaging from behind the three-point line this year.

 “We just got to continue to shoot them um they eventually fall we just want to keep doing we don’t want to pass up open shots … we don’t want to go out and start thinking like.. Hey we’re not shooting the great percentage as a team so stop shooting it cuz teams are giving it to us we’re working for them so we just going to keep shooting”

The Huskers faced one of their biggest tests of the year on the road Saturday afternoon, taking on No. 21 Wisconsin.

The Huskers faced one of their biggest tests of the year on the road Saturday afternoon, taking on No. 21 Wisconsin. Though Nebraska put up a fight, it fell behind early and never managed to close the deficit, resulting in an 88-72 loss.

The Huskers went 26-of-53 in total shooting for the game, but their defense had no answers for the Badgers’ offense. Wisconsin went 33-of-60 in total shooting, giving it the edge over Nebraska on the afternoon.

Keisei Tominaga once again finished as the Huskers’ leading scorer. Tominaga went seven-of-ten in field goal shooting and three-of-six from beyond the arc in the loss. This translated to 17 points for the guard.

Rienk Mast finished directly behind Tominaga in points, producing 16 on the afternoon. The transfer went six-of-14 in total shooting and finished as the team’s co-leader in rebounds, hauling in six. Sam Hoiberg accompanied Mast in total rebounds, securing six as well.

Brice Williams also cracked double-digits in points scored for Nebraska, finishing with 10 points. Williams also surpassed 1,000 career points in the outing, becoming the 31st Husker in school history to reach the milestone.

With the loss, the Huskers fall to 12-3 and will return home Tuesday night for another big challenge, hosting No. 1 Purdue. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and can be viewed on Peacock.

Hutmacher wins by pin in Nebraska wrestling debut

The Nebraska wrestling team competed in a three-team meet on Saturday afternoon, hosting Wyoming and Northern Iowa.

The Nebraska wrestling team competed in a three-team meet on Saturday afternoon, hosting Wyoming and Northern Iowa. The Huskers swept the triangular, crushing the Cowboys 44-3 and sneaking away from the Wildcats 18-17.

The triangular also acted as the Nebraska wrestling debut for defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher. The Blackshirt returned to the mat for the first time since 2020. Hutmacher joined Nebraska wrestling after spending three seasons playing football.

Before Nebraska, Hutmacher wrestled for Chamberlain High School in South Dakota, where he was a four-time state champion. Hutmacher’s collegiate debut saw him win by fall in the first period, capping off a dominating win for Nebraska over Wyoming.

After falling in the first match, the Huskers won the remaining nine matches with authority, four by falls, two by tech falls, and one by a major decision.

Hutmacher did not wrestle in the team’s follow-up match with Northern Iowa, a meet that came down to the wire. But Silas Allred earned a pin in the penultimate match, giving Nebraska a five-point lead, eventually leading to the 18-17 victory.

The Huskers moved to 5-0 on the season and will remain home to take on Iowa on Friday night. The duel is set for 6:00 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

It was a rough night at home against the Tigers, and the lack of offense really came back to bite them this time around. In past games, they were able to work their way back into the game due to their massive rebounding advantage, allowing them to grab for second-chance points. This was one of the few times where the opponent was able to match them on the glass.
