Dowdell enters the 2024 season as a sophomore after playing his freshman year at Oregon. The four-star recruit out of Picayune, Mississippi native came out of high school rushing for 5,301 yards and 65 touchdowns.

The six-foot-two 215 pounder competed in six games for the Ducks in his first year. Across the six games, Dowdell rushed for 90 yards off 17 carries and a touchdown. Dowdell’s big game came against Portland State, where he finished with 55 yards and a touchdown off eight carries.

Breaking: Former Florida LB Scooby Williams will transfer to Texas A&M

Texas A&M lands Former Florida Linebacker Scooby William through the transfer portal

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is on fire in the transfer portal and is hitting on some major positions of need. Back to the defensive side of the ball, they grab a productive linebacker to help replace the loss of Edgerrin Cooper and Chris Russell Jr.

Joining fellow former Florida cornerback Jaydon Hill, Elko has now secured a commitment from linebacker Scooby Williams, who is coming off of his 2023 sophomore season after totaling 52 tackles (27 solo tackles), two forced fumbles, and a sack on the year. In three seasons with the Gators, Williams has totaled 69 tackles while bringing his 6’3″, 230-pound frame that could at least put a bandage over Cooper’s lost production next season.

Texas A&M is already in the Top Ten in the 247 Sports transfer rankings, with more to come in the next few days as Elko keeps pounding the pavement in the transfer portal.

Williams is reunited with his 2023 linebackers coach and current Aggies defensive coordinator Jay Bateman and will join incoming sophomore LB Taurean York, who is coming off a stellar freshman campaign.

‘I think what we’ve done up until this point we’re probably as prepared as we can be’ Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M vs. LSU

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say during the LSU matchup preview.

On Saturday, the Aggie Basketball team will open 2024 at home, a good LSU Tigers team.

A&M played a strong non-conference schedule that helped prepare them for conference play and they are currently on a two-game winning streak. They also have a chance to extend their SEC home game streak to 13. However, Coach Buzz Williams also knows they are facing an LSU team that is trending in the right direction.

“They’re a completely different team than they were last year; they’re a completely different team than they were three weeks”
The Aggies will have a chance to get an early up on an improving LSU team, but Coach Buzz knows they have to improve across the board. Below, you can watch the full presser Q&A with Coach Buzz Williams.

Texas wide receiver Isaiah Neyor commits to Nebraska

The Huskers received another big addition to their team in the offseason, this time coming from the transfer portal.

The Huskers received another significant addition to their team in the offseason, this time coming from the transfer portal. Texas wide receiver Isaiah Neyor announced on Twitter late Friday night that he is committed to Nebraska after spending two seasons with the Longhorns.

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver transfers from Texas with two years of eligibility left and is coming to Lincoln with a solid resume. However, his time with the Longhorns resulted in minimal action for the Fort Worth, Texas, getting just one catch for 14 yards.

But before Texas, Neyor made a name for himself at Wyoming. In three seasons with the Cowboys, Neyor hauled in 52 catches for 1,126 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Neyor came out of high school as a two-star wide receiver and will be the second Texas wide receiver to transfer to Nebraska in the past three years, joining former Husker Marcus Washington.

Neyor is also just the second player to commit to Nebraska from the transfer portal this offseason, the first being cornerback Blye Hill from Saint Francis University.

Gregg Grost out as CEO/Executive Director of Golf Coaches Association of America, Dustin Roberts to take over

The GCAA will officially celebrate Grost’s tenure and contributions to college golf at its December national convention.

There’s a big change at the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Gregg Grost is out as CEO and executive director of the association, it was announced Thursday. Dustin Roberts, who has served in numerous positions for the GCAA since November 2002 and most recently COO, will assume the CEO and executive director position, effective immediately.

Grost has moved to the role of CEO Emeritus before transitioning to pursue other passions in golf, per the release.

“We are certainly grateful for Gregg Grost and his numerous contributions to the GCAA,” GCAA President Ryan Cabbage said in a release. “Our profession as college golf coaches and the Golf Coaches Association of America as a whole are both in a wonderful position due to his many years of hard work and dedication on our behalf. We now look forward to continuing to build on what Gregg has put in place with Dustin as our CEO.”

Gregg Grost (GCAA)

Grost was named executive director in September 2000 before being named CEO. He has a long association with college golf, beginning his playing career at McLennan Community College before graduating from TCU. Grost joined the coaching ranks as an assistant under Hall of Famer Dan Rogas at Lamar in 1981. Before moving to the University of Oklahoma in the spring of 1986, Grost guided Lamar to three Southland Conference Championships and earned the first of his two Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award honors. He led the Sooners to the NCAA title in 1989, claiming his second National Coach of the Year award honors. He was inducted into the GCAA Hall of Fame in 2005.

During Grost’s tenure, the GCAA membership doubled, now numbering more than 850. The association also went from debt to solid financial footing under his stewardship. Along with the WGCA (Women’s Golf Coaches Association), the GCAA has grown its national convention attendance from fewer than 150 attendees to more than 340. Additionally, with partners the Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation, Rolex and Nike, the Arnold Palmer Cup has grown from a competition between eight U.S. men’s college golfers versus their counterparts from GB&I to an event that includes men’s and women’s college golfers from around the globe.

“I am excited about the new stage of my life with my family while pursuing opportunities in the game which I have wanted to focus on since retiring from coaching,” Grost said. “I am equally excited that the GCAA National Advisory Board has chosen Dustin Roberts to step into the CEO position at this time. Since the day he was hired over 20 years ago, he has exceeded all expectations with tireless effort on behalf of our member coaches. He is simply the right person at the right time.”

The GCAA will officially celebrate Grost’s tenure and contributions to college golf at its December national convention.

Tominaga drops 28 points in Nebraska’s victory over Indiana

The Huskers entered 2024 with a home game against conference opponent Indiana.

The Huskers entered 2024 with a home game against conference opponent Indiana. Nebraska last defeated the Hoosiers in 2017, a drought that ended on Wednesday night with an 86-70 Cornhusker victory. The Huskers took down Indiana behind another big performance from Keisei Tominaga, who put together his best game of the season.

The Olympian racked up a season-high 28 points in the win, making it his third 20-plus point game this season. He also led Nebraska in shooting, earning a season-high nine-of-15 in field goal shooting and a season-high four-of-ten in shooting from beyond the arc.

The Huskers edged out the Hoosiers in the stat sheet, going 27-of-59 from the field, 12-of-32 from 3-point range, and 20-of-26 from the free throw line. Indiana went 24-of-51, 9-of-18, and 13-of-19, respectively. Nebraska dominated in the turnover category, snatching 18 and producing 27 points. The Hoosiers managed nine turnovers for six points.

Alongside Tominaga’s performance, three other Huskers cracked double-digits in scoring. Brice Williams finished the night with 15 points, going five-of-10 in shooting, three-of-four from beyond the arc, and six rebounds.

Jamarques Lawrence scored 12 points in the win, finishing four-of-eight in shooting and two-of-six in 3-point shooting. C.J. Wilcher rounded out the majority of Nebraska’s scoring, delivering 11 points on the night and going three-of-six from beyond the arc.

The Huskers move to 12-2 on the season, making it their best start to a season since 2010. Nebraska will face its next big test on Saturday afternoon at No. 21 Wisconsin. Tipoff is set for 1:15 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Post Game Recap: Texas A&M wins second straight with 79-54 victory over Prairie View A&M

Henry Coleman and Andersson Garcia combine for 31 points and 25 rebounds as the power past the Panthers

Texas A&M (9-4) hosted the Prairie View A&M Panthers (5-8) on Saturday night at Reed Arena and came out with a decisive win to end non-conference play on a two-game winning streak, while earning three Quad 1 victories before the SEC slate begins.

This game was never close as Texas A&M opened the game on a 13-0 and led by double digits essentially the entire contest. The Aggies didn’t go too deep into their bench. As a result, they had four starters reach double digits, with Henry Coleman and Andersson Garcia recording double-doubles. For Coleman, his 20 points and 13 rebounds gave him his fifth double-double on the season, and Garcia’s 11 points and 12 rebounds was a career milestone as his first collegiate double-double.

If there is one thing the Aggies need to improve on as they move into SEC play, it’s their three-point shooting. They were an abysmal 3-24 from beyond the arc and are now at a season average of .274, while their opponents are at .350. Going forward, something needs to happen on the defensive end, or they need to put up a thousand extra shots during the break to close that gap.

However, to close out on a positive note, the Maroon & White did not forget how to rebound as they came into the game as the nation’s leader in offensive rebounds and solidified that spot again tonight, snatching a season-high 29 offensive boards in route to their 79-54 victory.

NOTE: Tyrece Radford returned to the lineup and missing multiple games

Below are the Aggie critical contributors from the game:

Henry Coleman:  20 points / 13 rebounds

Andersson Garcia:  11 points / 12 rebounds

Tyrece Radford:  11 points / 7 rebounds

Texas A&M will get a break before SEC play on January 6th, where they will host LSU inside Reed Arena at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network.

The Huskers concluded the 2023 portion of their season with a home game against South Carolina State.

The Huskers concluded the 2023 portion of their season with a home game against South Carolina State. Nebraska wasted no time running away with the win, outscoring the Bulldogs 50-11 in the first half, leading to a 91-62 victory.

The Huskers delivered efficient numbers in shooting, going 29-for-61 in field goal shooting, 9-for-30 in 3-point shooting, and 24-for-32 at the free throw line. Nebraska also had big numbers in rebounds and steals, finishing with 50 and 16 as a team, respectively.

Former Aggie Justin Madubuike has a chance to break sack record against the 49ers

Former Aggie DL Justin Madubuike has been wreaking havoc in the backfield this season in pursuit of sack record

Baltimore Ravens fourth-year defensive lineman Justin Madubuike has the opportunity to stand alone in the record books when he steps on the field on Christmas day. He will need just half a sack to take sole possession of the most consecutive games with a sack in NFL history.

Madubuike is currently having an All-Pro season with an extremely impressive 45 tackles, 30 QB hits, and 12 sacks with three games left in the season. He has been so disruptive that he draws comparisons to perennial pro-bowler Aaron Donald.

[Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union]
Back to the issue at hand, Madubuike is presently tied with a handful of others (Chris Jones, Trey Hendrickson, Jared Allen, and Shaun Ellis) at 11 straight games with at least half a sack. Sunday will be a unique challenge as the 49ers have one of the better offensive lines in the league and a Quarterback who does not take a lot of sacks.

Even with that, the prior 11 teams have been unable to keep him off the signal caller, and I’m giving him a solid 60% chance of rewriting the record book. There would be no better present outside of a Ravens win for Justin to celebrate Christmas before he heads home to the family.

Everything Buzz Williams, Hayden Hefner and Andersson Garcia had to say after the victory over HCU

Here’s everything Coach Buzz Williams, Hayden Hefner, and Andersson Garica had to say after Friday night’s win over HCU.

With Tyrece Radford out and Wade Taylor having an off-night, Texas A&M needed someone to step up. Hayden Hefner and Andersson Garica answered that call and, in a big way, en route to a 79-52 win over the HCU Huskies.

Hefner was the only Aggie that could score consistently from anywhere on the court and lit up the Huskies for a career-high 24 points. Then, Garcia did what he does best, grabbing every rebound in sight. Coach Buzz Williams made it a point to mention it during his time in the post-game presser.

“It was (Andersson Garcia’s) first college start. I think he’s Dennis Rodman from Columbia. He’s unbelievable. He impacts the game without the ball more than any player I’ve coached.”

After losing back-to-back games and then playing a 2-8 Huskie team, things can sometimes go awry, and focus can be lost. However, Buzz will always make sure to keep his team in the moment and preach that every game matters.

“We always preach trying to be mature and focus on the next thing in front of you. Do your job and try to help somebody else do their job. It’s just second nature.”

This was a good bounce back to get back in the win column with one non-conference game remaining before SEC play starts while ensuring that the Christmas break would begin on a high note. Below, you can watch the Post-game pressers with Coach Buzz, Hefner, and Garcia.

Texas A&M will return home for a game against Prairie View A&M on Dec.30 at 7:00 PM CST.
