Twitter reacts to the Eagles trading picks to Steelers for QB Kenny Pickett

Social media and Twitter exploded after the Philadelphia Eagles traded draft picks to the Pittsburgh Steelers for quarterback Kenny Pickett

The Eagles officially have a new backup quarterback after general manager Howie Roseman traded a late-round pick to the Steelers for Kenny Pickett.

Pickett was set to enter his third season with Pittsburgh after the franchise selected him with a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Pickett started 24 games in his first two seasons with the Steelers, as Pittsburgh went 7-5 in games he was under center in both years.

Picket completed 62.6 percent of his passes for 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions during his career, giving Philadelphia an experienced backup quarterback.

With the news set to be complete, here are social media reactions.

Eagles agree to deal with long snapper Rick Lovato

The Eagles return two key free agents after agreeing to terms with long snapper Rick Lovato and punter Braden Mann on a two-year extension.

Philadelphia had one of the NFL’s top special teams units down the stretch in 2023, and they return all the core members after agreeing to terms on Tuesday with long snapper Rick Lovato on a one-year extension and punter Braden Mann on a two-year extension.

Both players were scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on Wednesday.

Lovato is the third-longest-tenured member of the Eagles after the departures of Fletcher Cox and Jason Cox having signed with the Eagles late in the 2016 season.

He’s one of four remaining members of the Super Bowl LII Championship team still on the roster.

Lovato He’s played in all 133 games (including playoffs) since arriving in Philadelphia, earning Pro Bowl honors following the 2019 campaign.

2024 NFL draft: Updated first round mock after Day 1 of legal tampering period

We’re looking at an updated first round 2024 NFL mock draft after the first day of the legal tampering period that saw Kirk Cousins to Falcons, Brian Burns to Giants, and Saquon Barkley to Eagles

The Eagles are set for wholesale changes after finishing the 2023 season 1-6 after a 10-1 start.

The dominos started to fall as All-Pro center Jason Kelce and star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox announced their retirements.

Brandon Graham, who turns 36 in April, is returning for one more final season, his 15th, and he’s one of the few guys on the roster deserving of writing his final script.

The first day of the legal tampering period offered a glimpse into the future after Saquon Barkley agreed to a 3-year, $37.75 million deal with Philadelphia, Kirk Cousins signed a $100 million contract with the Falcons, and the New York Giants acquired Brian Burns.

Eagles to sign LB Zack Baun to a 1-year deal

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing former New Orleans Saints linebacker Zack Baun to a one-year deal

The Eagles have started retooling the linebacker position, signing former Saints defender Zack Baun to a one-year deal.

Baun, 27, started six games for the Saints last season, recording two sacks, an interception, and four quarterback hits.

Baun recorded 30 tackles across 17 games in the 2023 regular season.

Baun saw a career-high 292 defensive snaps last season while continuing to play a critical role on special teams (381).

The 2020 third-round pick was a core special-teamer since his first year with the Saints, but he’s yet to log more than 30 tackles in a single season.

Eagles agree to 3-year, $37.5 Million deal with former Giants star RB Saquon Barkley

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing Saquon Barkley to a three-year, $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75M and includes $26M fully guaranteed at signing.

The Saquon Barkley era is underway in Philadelphia, as the former Penn State star and New York Giants running back is signing a three-year, $37 million deal with the Eagles.

The $26 million fully guaranteed puts Barkley above the $12 million per season he would have made with consecutive franchise tags under the New York Giants.

In 14 games last season, Barkley logged 962 yards and six rushing touchdowns, 41 receptions for 280 yards, and four touchdowns for the 6-11 Giants.

Barkley would pair well with Kenneth Gainwell while giving Philadelphia an explosive playmaker in Kellen Moore’s offense.

The dominos are starting to fall as All-Pro center Jason Kelce and star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox have announced their retirements.

Brandon Graham, who turns 36 in April, is returning for one more final season, his 15th, and he’s one of the few guys on the roster deserving of writing his final script.

With the fans and media awaiting the start of free agency, we’re looking at an updated list of players hitting the open market.

Bears sign former Eagles safety Kevin Byard to a 2-year, $15 million deal

The hunt for compensatory picks has begin, and Philadelphia is up one after Kevin Byard agreed to a two-year, $15 million deal with the Chicago Bears.

The hunt for compensatory picks has begun, and Philadelphia is up one after Kevin Byard agreed to a two-year, $15 million deal with the Chicago Bears.

The Bears moved on from Eddie Jackson, and with new defensive coordinator Eric Washington wanting to play a specific style, the team hosted Byard on a two-day visit.

According to PFF, Byard was the 23rd highest-graded safety in the NFL and finished the year with career highs in tackles (122) and solo tackles (80) in 16 regular-season games.

Byard began the year with the Titans before being traded to the Eagles.

Despite playing only ten games for Philadelphia, Byard finished fourth in tackles, recording 75 after the move.

Philadelphia could have negotiated a restructured or reworked deal, but the $14 million cap hit was too high for a player who made no game-changing plays during his stint.

Eagles will not tender TE Jack Stoll, making him an unrestricted free agent

Tight end Jack Stoll will be an unrestricted free agent after the Philadelphia Eagles decided to not offer a restricted free agency tender

Philadelphia has a new offensive coordinator with Kellen Moore replacing Brian Johnson, and the changes are now trickling down to the roster.

Tight end Jack Stoll was a restricted free agent and would have been designated to remain in Philadelphia had GM Howie Roseman offered him a tender. The Eagles have opted not to, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports, meaning Stoll will test unrestricted free agency.

Stoll has been more run blocker than pass catcher over his first two seasons in the NFL, and his production diminishes anytime Dallas Goedert is out of the lineup.

If Stoll indeed signs elsewhere, one player to watch will be Albert Okwuegbunam.

The Eagles signed the tight end to a one-year contract extension ahead of NFL free agency after he played 57 offensive snaps and spent most of the season buried on the depth chart behind Goedert, Stoll and Grant Calcaterra.

Philadelphia acquired Okwuegbunam from Denver after a preseason finale in which the versatile tight end caught seven passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. But the Broncos didn’t have room for him on their roster, so they made a deal with the Eagles. Philadelphia traded a 2025 sixth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-rounder to the Broncos for Okweugbunam last August.

A fourth-round pick out of Missouri, Okweugbunam was targeted just once in four games of action last season and did not have a catch. Under Moore, an innovative play-caller, Okweugbunam has a better chance to find a role.

Haason Reddick landing spots: Ranking the 5 teams most likely to trade for Eagles LB

Ian Rapoport reports the Philadelphia Eagles are taking trade calls for Haason Reddick and we’re looking at the five most likely trade partners

The 2024 NFL offseason is underway for Philadelphia, and after a 32-9 wild card loss to Tampa Bay, the focus will now shift to reshaping the roster to fit two new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

The 2024 cap is $255 million, and according to Over The Cap, Philadelphia is tenth in the NFL with over $40 million in cap space.

The Birds are set to have 19 pending free agents after re-signing Brandon Graham, and with another likely retool schedule on defense, the organization could conjure up a scheme for more flexibility.

Ian Rapoport reports that Philadelphia is taking trade calls on pass rushers Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat.

Reddick finished 15th in the league with 11 sacks and made his second straight Pro Bowl.

He recorded double-digit sacks for the fourth consecutive season, leading his team in that category and tying for 15th in the NFL.

Had Nolan Smith shown that he was ready to be an elite pass rusher, then the idea would have been to cut Reddick, saving the Eagles $11 million after the dead money allotment.

Outside of the sacks, though, Reddick’s numbers were poor by his standards.

His 38 tackles were the second-lowest mark of his career, and he didn’t force or recover a fumble after forcing five and recovering three last season. His snap share (74 percent) remained identical, indicating the drop-off wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities but mismanagement from coaches.

Reddick was dropped back in coverage 15 times the last three games after dropping back just three times the first 15 games, and depending on how Vic Fangio views his role, Philadelphia could save $11 million after the dead cap hit by moving on and rolling with Nolan Smith in 2024.

Eagles agree to a deal with DE Brandon Graham on a 1-year extension

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing Brandon Graham to a one-year contract extension ahead of NFL free agency

The Eagles are signing Brandon Graham to a one-year deal that should take the pass rusher through his 15th and final NFL season.

A 2010 first-round draft pick, Graham is the Eagles’ longest-tenured player, spending his first 14 years with Philadelphia. A respected veteran leader and a defensive captain, Graham played only 34 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps in 17 games last season.

He’ll now return to Philadelphia and mentor Nolan Smith while preparing for a career in the media.
