Kentucky vs Youngstown State Game Preview

Why Youngstown State Will Win

The Penguins have been terrific so far.

After a rough three-win 2021, they came out 2-0 with the offense kicking in and the defense coming up big with lots and lots of plays in the backfield. The run defense hasn’t allowed a thing, giving up just 1.8 yards per carry helped by all of those tackles for loss.

Kentucky can’t get the ground game going with Chris Rodriguez out of the mix for a bit. Struggling against the Florida defense last week was one thing, but only managing 50 yards on 26 carries against Miami University wasn’t okay.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 3

Why Kentucky Will Win

Youngstown State is doing just about everything right so far, but it’s not controlling the clock.

Kentucky doesn’t really deal with the time of possession side of things, but it’s great at owning the tempo and making teams slow things down.

The Wildcat defense hasn’t allowed a touchdown pass, shut down Anthony Richardson, and it should be solid enough to keep Demeatric Crenshaw and the Youngstown State passing attack from getting comfortable.

Rely on the D, expect Will Levis and the UK passing game to keep the mistakes to a minimum, and expect the game to grind on the way it likes.

Week 3 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

This is dangerous.

Kentucky has a style and way of staying in the game against everyone, and it has a style and a way of keeping the other side in games, too.

UT Chattanooga scared the stuff out of the base last year in a 28-23 UK win, and Youngstown State has the ability to make this a fight.

The Wildcats are going to win, and it’s not like they’re going to look ahead to deal with Northern Illinois, but they’ll have a tough time getting through this after the fun of taking down the Gators.

Notre Dame announces nonconference schedule for 2022-23 season

Notre Dame is eager to build on the success it had during the 2021-22 season.

Notre Dame is eager to build on the success it had during the 2021-22 season. It won two NCAA Tournament games, and [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] became the program’s first one-and-done player after being drafted by the San Antonio Spurs. For the 2022-23 season, the Irish are returning most of their players and have another freshman with high expectations in [autotag]JJ Starling[/autotag]. We now know how their season will start in that they have released their nonconference schedule.

After everything the Irish accomplished last year, opponents will know not to take them lightly. [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] has recaptured his old magic, and that means a team that should continue to get better. All of this means some quality basketball will be played, and that means a product worth the money paid by the fans who come out to see them. After a Nov. 2 exhibition against New Orleans-based NAIA opponent Xavier, here’s who the Irish will face before playing an ACC schedule that promises even more excitement:

3 things to know about Colts TE Andrew Ogletree

3 things to know about Colts new TE Andrew Ogletree.

As the 2022 NFL draft winds down, the Indianapolis Colts added some much-needed depth at tight end picking up the young player out of Youngstown State in Andrew Ogletree.

It’s not often we see a team draft two tight ends in the same draft, but this position is vital to Frank Reich’s offense and Matt Ryan’s success. The Colts also added Jelani Woods out of Virginia in the third round.

Former Michigan State football TE transfers to Youngstown State

MSU TE transfer Trenton Gillison is heading to Youngstown State

Trenton Gillison was a highly anticipated prospect coming out of Pickerington Central High School in southern Ohio. Ranked as a 4-star prospect and the No. 10 TE in the 2018 recruiting class, MSU fans were very excited to watch Gillison’s Spartan career.

Unfortunately, his development never really took off, and he struggled to find playing time. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Gillison decided he would be transferring from the program. He finished his MSU career with 18 catches for 201 yards in three seasons of action.

Gillison has since found his new home, heading back to his home state of Ohio to play for the Youngstown State Penguins.

Youngstown State staffer with cheap shot on sidelines against Northern Iowa

Quan Hampton of Northern Iowa took the hardest hit of the day and it wasn’t delivered by a Youngstown State player

Quan Hampton of Northern Iowa made it out of bounds to safety it appeared against Youngstown State on Saturday … so it seemed.

Watch as the WR goes over the sideline only to be decked by one of the Penguins’ staffers.

That shot might have drawn a flag on the field and it certainly merited one for a late hit … not matter who delivered it.

If he isn’t the strength, coach, maybe head coach Doug Phillips should consider him for the gig.

Arizona Cardinals rookie Jermiah Braswell arrested for driving into Lake Erie

Jermiah Braswell, an undrafted rookie signed by the Arizona Cardinals, has been arrested after driving into Lake Erie.

This isn’t the kind of route the Arizona Cardinals envisioned undrafted free agent Jermiah Braswell running when they signed him in April. The wide receiver from Youngstown State was arrested Saturday after driving an orange Camaro into Lake Erie in Ohio.

Yep, he is reported to have driven a car into Lake Erie while under the influence.

Per WTOL:

Police say witnesses told officers that the driver of the Camaro had driven off the embankment and came to rest in the lake, and added Braswell was at a very high rate of speed when he left the roadway. He traveled through a grassy area, and flew off the embankment into the lake, according to police records.

As officers approached Braswell, they found he was still in the driver’s seat, trying to drive forward. He told crews he was stuck and didn’t know what happened, according to police.

Police records show Braswell agreed to a breath test, which showed his BAC exceeded Ohio’s legal limit. The player refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his BAC. Braswell was arrested for driving under the influence

Braswell played in 40 games and started 15 games at Youngstown State. He caught 51 passes for 986 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He caught a touchdown pass in each of his four years with the program.

49ers stay in Florida to prepare for Saints in second leg of cross-country road trip

The NFL does stand for the National Football League, and there are few better reminders of that than the struggles West Coast teams experience when traveling coast-to-coast. The San Francisco 49ers are acutely aware of the difficulties that come with a shortened schedule and rude, early awakening — a noon kickoff at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome comes up two hours earlier than they’re used too at home — so they had to adjust to back-to-back road games with the Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints.

To help manage that, the 49ers are lodging and practicing in Bradenton, Fla. this week, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. They’ll be working out of the IMG Academy, a local prep school focused on developing professional athletes in football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and other sports. Former Saints linebacker Manti Te’o is one of many clients who has used their facilities, having worked out there during his training for the 2013 NFL Draft.

After losing to the Ravens on Sunday, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and his crew need all the help they can get to rebound. They opened the season by staying at Youngstown State’s campus in Youngstown, Ohio between road games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cincinnati Bengals, winning both games. It’s a move Shanahan is comfortable calling for when the situation demands it.

The Saints benefited from an extended stay on the West Coast between Week 2 (losing to the Los Angeles Rams) and Week 3 (rebounding to beat the Seattle Seahawks), so the strategy clearly has some merit. Whether it will make a difference next Sunday remains to be seen. At least Shanahan’s players won’t be sleepy.
