Full list of 2024 Panthers free agents

The Panthers currently have 26 players slated for free agency in 2024.

Things have changed a bit since the last time we brought you this free agent list.

A few weeks back, the Carolina Panthers held on to a few of their own—re-signing tight end Stephen Sullivan and defensive linemen Nick Thurman LaBryan Ray to fresh deals.

So, let’s take an updated look at the team’s pending 2024 free agents.

Top takeaways from Panthers’ snap counts in Week 18 loss to Buccaneers

Panthers OLB Yetur Gross-Matos turned in a productive outing to cap off a career year.

Even in the final game of an absolutely lost 2-15 season for the Carolina Panthers, we have some numbers to look over.

Here are the top takeaways from Sunday’s snap counts:

2024 free agents who may be playing their final game for the Panthers in Week 18

Week 18 may mark the end of an era for a few Carolina Panthers players.

Sunday will not only represent the end of a brutal 2023 season for the Carolina Panthers, but it may also mark the end of a few eras.

Here are 23 pending free agents who could be playing their last game for the Panthers in Week 18:

Referees call simultaneous horrible roughing the passer calls on Vikings, Panthers

The Vikings and Panthers were victimized by simultaneous horrible roughing the passer calls in two different games. Bravo, refs!

There’s no question that the putrid state of officiating is one of the top stories of the 2023 NFL season, and here we go again. On Sunday, virtually at the same time, the Minnesota Vikings and the Carolina Panthers were waylaid by roughing the passer calls that did not stand up to close inspection.

The penalty against the Vikings came with 9:17 left in the first half. Defensive lineman Patrick Jones II barely touched Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, but Land Clark objected nonetheless. That turned second-and-26 into first-and-10, and game the Lions 15 extra yards.

The penalty against the Panthers happened with 8:44 left in the first half, when edge-rusher Yetur Gross-Matos was apparently a bit too rough with Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Again, you’d love to see any evidence of actual roughing the passer here. That turned third-and-1 into first-and-10, and gave the Packers 15 bonus yards. Bravo, referee Alex Kemp.

You can see both “penalties” right here.

Panthers Week 16 injury report: Brian Burns good to go vs. Packers

Not one Carolina Panthers player landed on the naughty list ahead of their Week 16 matchup against the Packers.

Compared to their last two outings, Friday’s practice was much more joyous for the Carolina Panthers.

Every active player was accounted for this afternoon, including the outside linebacker trio of Brian Burns, Yetur Gross-Matos and Marquis Haynes Sr. All three practiced in full after missing the past pair of sessions due to an illness and will not carry any game designations into this weekend’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Three others, however, will be bringing over at least a little doubt into Sunday. Tight end Ian Thomas (ankle), safety Sam Franklin Jr. (quadriceps) and outside linebacker Claudin Cherelus—who was designated to return from injured reserve this week—are all questionable.

Here’s the final injury report for Week 16:

Illness lands Brian Burns, 4 other Panthers on Wednesday’s injury report

Holiday cheer isn’t the only thing spreading around the Panthers’ locker room this week.

Holiday season can sometimes turn into sick season. And unfortunately for the Carolina Panthers, cheer isn’t the only thing spreading around this week.

Five players were listed on the initial Week 16 injury report due to an illness. That bunch is headlined by outside linebackers Brian Burns, Yetur Gross-Matos and Marquis Haynes Sr.—all of whom sat out on Wednesday.

Also down with the sickness were tight end Tommy Tremble and safety Xavier Woods, who had been listed as limited participants. Woods is fresh off recording his team-leading second interception in this past Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Here is the full injury report from this afternoon:

Panthers Week 13 inactives: Jaycee Horn starting vs. Buccaneers

Panthers CB Jaycee Horn and OLB Yetur Gross-Matos are expected to start in their returns this afternoon.

Jaycee Horn is all the way back.

The Carolina Panthers announced that the third-year cornerback will get the start on Sunday in his return from a hamstring injury. Horn, who has not played since the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, was officially activated to the roster on Saturday.

Horn is expected to be joined in the starting lineup by outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos, who was also activated from a hamstring injury yesterday. Safety Jeremy Chinn, who missed the last five games with a quadriceps issue, should be making his return as well.

Carolina will, however, be without a few key names. Unsurprisingly, tight ends Hayden Hurst (concussion) and Tommy Tremble (hip) as well as safety Vonn Bell (shoulder) will be sidelined.

Here is the full list of inactives for the Panthers in Week 13:

  • S Vonn Bell
  • CB Shaquill Griffin
  • TE Hayden Hurst
  • OLB DJ Johnson
  • OT Ricky Lee
  • WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
  • TE Tommy Tremble

And as for the host Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

  • LB Lavonte David
  • CB Jamel Dean
  • LB Sir’Vocea Dennis
  • RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn
  • OT Brandon Walton
  • LB Devin White
  • QB John Wolford

Panthers roster heading into Week 13 vs. Buccaneers

Jaycee Horn, Jeremy Chinn and Yetur Gross-Matos are all expected to be back for the Panthers on Sunday.

The reinforcements have arrived!

Ok, maybe it’s a little late to talk about “reinforcements” at 1-10, but the Carolina Panthers brought back a handful of key players on Saturday.

The team announced they have activated cornerback Jaycee Horn, safety Jeremy Chinn and outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos—all of whom are expected to play in today’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Carolina also called upon a pair of practice squad members for the NFC South clash. Guard Justin McCray and defensive lineman Chris Wormley, who will be making his second straight trip up, were elevated as well.

So, let’s take a look at the Panthers roster heading into the Week 13 matchup:

Panthers elevate 2 players for Week 13 game vs. Buccaneers

In addition to getting a trio of key defenders back, the Panthers elevated a pair of linemen for their Week 13 visit to see the Buccaneers.

As expected, the Carolina Panthers officially activated a trio of key defenders on Saturday—cornerback Jaycee Horn, safety Jeremy Chinn and outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos. But they weren’t the only players who got called on this afternoon.

The Panthers also announced that they’ve elevated two players from their practice squad—offensive lineman Justin McCray and defensive lineman Chris Wormley—for Sunday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both are standard elevations.

McCray, a free-agent signee from this past spring, has spent the much of the campaign as a member of the practice squad. He’s appeared in two games thus far, in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints and in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins—where he recorded four snaps at right guard.

With the Panthers missing Brady Christensen, Austin Corbett and Chandler Zavala for the remainder of the season, McCray will serve as some much-needed depth for the interior offensive line.

Wormley will be making his second consecutive trip up to the game-day roster. Week 12 marked his return to the NFL field after tearing his ACL last season.
