Dolphins sign former Panthers DT Daviyon Nixon

The Dolphins have signed former Panthers DT Daviyon Nixon.

An old friend has found a new home.

As announced on Thursday, former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon has signed with the Miami Dolphins.

Nixon spent the first two seasons of his NFL career with the Panthers, whom drafted him in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft. The big University of Iowa product was one of a franchise-record 11 selections by the organization that spring.

2021 saw Nixon record nine combined tackles, half a sack and two quarterback hits over seven games. Before entering his second campaign in 2022, Nixon was waived by the Panthers to make room for fellow defensive lineman Henry Anderson.

Carolina brought Nixon back to their practice squad a day following the release. He’d be signed to the active roster three weeks after his return and appeared in seven more games that season.

The Panthers waived Nixon later that year on Dec. 13. He was then signed by the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 21.

Full list of 2024 Panthers free agents

The Panthers currently have 26 players slated for free agency in 2024.

Things have changed a bit since the last time we brought you this free agent list.

A few weeks back, the Carolina Panthers held on to a few of their own—re-signing tight end Stephen Sullivan and defensive linemen Nick Thurman LaBryan Ray to fresh deals.

So, let’s take an updated look at the team’s pending 2024 free agents.

Panthers place Austin Corbett on reserve/PUP list

The Panthers moved a few injured linemen on Tuesday, placing G Austin Corbett on the reserve/PUP list and DE Henry Anderson on IR.

As expected, the Carolina Panthers won’t be starting the 2023 season with their starting right guard.

The team announced on Tuesday, in the midst of the summer’s big roster cutdown, that Austin Corbett has been placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. The 27-year-old is still recovering from an ACL tear, which he sustained in last season’s finale against the New Orleans Saints.

Carolina’s decision to shelve Corbett will keep the 6-foot-4, 304-pound hog molly sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the upcoming campaign. As a result, he will not count against the team’s initial 53-man roster—which must be finalized by 4 p.m. ET.

Corbett said the following about his recovery two weeks ago:

“We’ve continued to add more into my rehab and continue to do more change of direction. Everything’s been goin’ good. Not swellin’ up at all, no setbacks. So just continuin’ to add more.”

The Panthers also placed defensive lineman Henry Anderson on injured reserve, but did not disclose the nature of his injury.

Zietlow then asked fans a similar question on Twitter later that afternoon . . .

So, that got us thinking.

Here is our starting five from the Carolina locker room:

Grading the Panthers’ 2023 free-agent signings on defense

Here are our grades for the Panthers’ free-agent signings on defense from this offseason.

Let’s go over and grade each of the team’s notable free-agent signings on defense.

Panthers agree to terms with DE Henry Anderson

The Panthers are bringing back DE Henry Anderson for 2023.

The Carolina Panthers are bringing back a familiar face for their new defensive front.

As announced on Tuesday evening, the team has agreed to terms with defensive end Henry Anderson. The details of the pact were not made official.

Anderson initially signed on with the Panthers a week before the start of the 2022 regular season. Before landing in Carolina, the 6-foot-6, 300-pounder and former third-round pick spent seven years at the NFL level—with stints for the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets and New England Patriots.

Prior to their Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Anderson was placed on the reserve/non-injury list. He later revealed that he suffered from a minor stroke the night before the game.

He returned in Week 14 and proceeded to appear in each of the team’s final four outings. Anderson wrapped up the campaign with 18 combined tackles and a quarterback hit.

Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers’ Week 17 loss to Buccaneers

So, uh, does anyone want to guess who got the two lowest grades for the Panthers in Week 17’s loss to the Buccaneers?

Sunday was an afternoon of highs and lows for the Carolina Panthers in their 30-24 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Let’s see who Pro Football Focus graded out as their highs and lows for the team in their Week 17 defeat.

Panthers activate DE Henry Anderson for Week 14

Panthers DE Henry Anderson, who suffered a minor stroke in October, has been moved back to the active roster ahead of Week 14’s matchup with the Seahawks.

Before heading into their big Week 14 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, the Carolina Panthers made an adjustment on Saturday.

That change will see defensive end Henry Anderson added back to the active roster. The seventh-year veteran, who had missed the past six games while on the reserve/non-football injury list, revealed to reporters earlier this week that he suffered a minor stroke back in October.

“It was definitely something I wasn’t expecting,” the 31-year-old said on Wednesday. “I don’t have any conditions that make me more susceptible to that type of thing. So definitely surprised me. But like I said, got pretty luckily. The trainers and the medical staff and the doctors in the hospital did an outstanding job, and I was able to avoid any major issues.”

Anderson has recorded 12 combined tackles and one quarterback hit over six appearances in 2022.

To make room for him, the Panthers waived cornerback Tae Hayes.

Panthers DE Henry Anderson reveals he had minor stroke

Panthers DE Henry Anderson revealed he had a minor stroke the day prior to Week 7’s game against the Buccaneers.

Not much was known about the status of Carolina Panthers defensive end Henry Anderson when he missed the Week 7 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back on Oct. 23. He did, however, provide the details upon his return this afternoon.

After Wednesday’s practice session, Anderson revealed to reporters that he suffered a minor stroke. The 31-year-old said it happened on the Saturday before the game against the Buccaneers.

“But I’m all good,” he said. “It was minor and got it resolved pretty quickly.”

Anderson added that he experienced numbness and a loss of feeling in his extremities. Thankfully, he’s now ready to put the scary event behind.

“It was definitely something I wasn’t expecting,” he said. “I don’t have any conditions that make me more susceptible to that type of thing. So definitely surprised me. But like I said, got pretty luckily. The trainers and the medical staff and the doctors in the hospital did an outstanding job, and I was able to avoid any major issues.”

The seventh-year veteran was designated to return to practice today following his stint on the reserve/non-football injury list.
