The New York Giants headed into their Week 13 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks 10.5-point underdogs and given very little chance after it was announced that Daniel Jones (hamstring) would be inactive.

That put veteran backup Colt McCoy under center as a starter for just the eighth time since 2012, and the Giants’ defense on the spot. McCoy did what he could and the defense absolutely balled out. The special teams, unfortunately, let the Giants down again in what suddenly became a very winnable game, as most Giants games have been this season.

This one was more than winnable. The Giants looked like a first-place team as they stepped up and bit the NFC West leaders on the road with a 17-12 victory, their fourth in a row. The win ensures they will remain in first place in the NFC East for at least one more week as Philadelphia lost to Green Bay and Washington, who plays Pittsburgh on Monday, cannot pass them with a win.

One thing was never in jeopardy and that was the point spread. The Seahawks never had more than a five-point lead in the game. That is when they did have the lead.

The Seahawks opened the game with a nine-play drive that stalled inside the 20 after back-to-back defended passes by cornerback Isaac Yiadom and safety Jabrill Peppers. Seattle took an early 3-0 lead on a 31-yard field goal by Jason Myers.  The Giants responded with an unimpressive three-and-out then rookie linebacker Tae Crowder sacked Russell Wilson on third down to force a punt.

The Giants’ offense picked up the pace on their second possession driving down to the Seattle 16 on 11 plays but ended abruptly when McCoy’s pass to tight end Evan Engram slipped through Engram’s fingers as he was hit and into the hands of Seahawks cornerback Quandre Diggs, who returned it 32 yards to the Seattle 36.

After two teams traded punts, Giants rookie defensive end Niko Lalos recovered a Wilson fumble on third down on the Giants’ 48 with a little over six minutes remaining in the first half. The Giants could do nothing, went three and out and punted again.

Seattle scored before the half when Riley Dixon had a punt blocked in the end zone for a safety to give the Seahawks a 5-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Giants finally found their legs on offense so to speak. On their second possession in the third quarter, they drove 80 yards on four plays, buoyed by Wayne Gallman’s 60-yard scamper down the right sideline. to the Seahawks’ 17. Two plays later Alfred Morris scored his first NFL touchdown since 2018 to give the Giants a 6-5 lead. McCoy then lobbed a pass to Sterling Shepard for the two-point conversion and an 8-5 lead for Big Blue.

After the Giants stopped Wilson and the Seahawks on fourth down near midfield, the running game got rolling again. This time Gallman and Morris led the Giants on another scoring drive ending with McCoy hitting Morris for a six-yard touchdown to give the Giants a 14-5 lead. Graham Gano missed the PAT, his first miss of the season.

With 11:21 remaining in the fourth quarter, Wilson threw the football into traffic and the ricochet landed in the arms of Giants rookie cornerback Darnay Holmes at the Seahawks’ 39. Four plays later, Gano’s 48-yard field goal extended the Giants’ lead to 17-5 with just under ten minutes to play.

Seattle bounced back with 6:09 remaining when Wilson hit running back Chris Carson for a 28-yard scoring strike to narrow the score to 17-12. The Seahawks would get one last shot to win the game when the Giants punted with 1:48 remaining. The defense once again made stand to preserve the lead and the win. From front to back they played lights out in this game.

Notes

  • Seattle was 5-0 this season at home and had been averaging 31.0 points per game through the first 12 weeks, which was third in the NFL. They were fifth in yards per game (391). Seattle fell short all of those averages, scoring only 12 points and gaining just 327 total yards in this game
  • The Giants entered the game averaging 142 yards per game on the ground over their last eight games. They racked up a season-high 190 yards against the Seahawks’ third-ranked rush defense.
  • Wilson started the day as the second-most sacked quarterback in the league  (35) and the Giants added to that total to 40 with five sacks, 2.5 by Leonard Williams.

Wayne Gallman, defense carry Giants to enormous upset of Seahawks

The New York Giants, led by a bruising defense and RB Wayne Gallman, upset the Seattle Seahawks, 17-12, in Week 13.

The New York Giants took a three-game winning streak into Seattle on Sunday and despite being 10.5-point underdogs, played the NFC West-leading Seahawks tougher than any opponent they’ve faced this season.

New York trailed by just five at halftime and then took an nine-point lead into the fourth quarter. But the Seahawks and Russell Wilson would not go away, trimming the Giants’ lead to five with 6:00 remaining in the game.

The Giants were able to grind the clock down to 1:48 before Seattle got the ball back and it felt like momentum was shifting, but as they have done all year, the Big Blue defense stepped up and shut things down for the biggest upset of the year.

The New York Giants defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 19-17, in Week 12 to claim first place in the NFC East. And while the game didn’t come easy for a variety of reasons, the vast majority of players did well and checked out with some impressive grades.

On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Daniel Jones earned the unit’s highest overall grade courtesy of Pro Football Focus, finishing his injury-plagued day with a 78.6.

Part of the reason Jones performed so well was the quality play of the team’s offensive line. Guard Will Hernandez led that group with 72.7 grade, while four of the other five O-linmen who logged snaps finished with a grade of 63.7 or higher.

Rookie guard Shane Lemieux earned the unit’s lowest grade and one of the lowest overall grades on the team with a 42.9.

Other noteworthy offensive grades include tight end Evan Engram (69.1) and running back Wayne Gallman (58.1), who continues to produce at a higher clip than his weekly grades would indicate.

On the defensive side of the ball, safety Logan Ryan led the way with a team-high grade of 91.6. Behind him were defensive end Jabaal Sheard (90.7), safety Jabrill Peppers (89.6) and defensive lineman Niko Lalos (88.1).

In his NFL debut, rookie safety Xavier McKinney registered a 61.9 on five snaps.

The lowest-graded defender was linebacker Devante Downs, who checked in with 44.8. He just edged out rookie linebacker Cam Brown (47.6) for the unit’s worst grade.

The New York Giants defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 19-17, at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday in a game that could’ve gotten away from them but didn’t.

Here are six takeaways from a Week 12 victory that put the Giants into first place in the NFC East.

Giants vs. Bengals: Statistics, numbers and broken records

The New York Giants defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12 and here’s a look at some of the statistics, numbers and broken records.

The New York Giants defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 19-17, on Sunday but unfortunately, that came at a cost. Quarterback Daniel Jones suffered what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury that could cause him to miss several games.

On the bright side, at least for now, the victory moved the Giants into first place in the NFC East and improved their record to 4-7 after starting the season 0-5.

Here’s a look at all the noteworthy stats and records to come from the Week 12 win:

  • With Sunday’s win, the Giants have now won 700 games as a franchise. They are just the third NFL team to reach or eclipse 700 victories.
  • The Giants have now won three consecutive games, their longest such streak since 2016.
  • Sunday’s victory over the Bengals was New York’s first non-divisional win this season.
  • The Giants’ win over the Bengals was their first ever in Cincinnati. It’s also the first time the road team has ever won a game between these two teams.
  • Six of the Giants’ last seven games have been decided by three points or fewer.
  • The Giants gained a season-high 386 yards of offense on Sunday.
  • With their 142 yards rushing, the Giants have now gone over 100 rushing yards in six consecutive games.
  • The Giants held the Bengals to just 155 total yards of offense, the lowest output by an opponent since the Chicago Bears in 2010 (110 yards).
  • Cincinnati’s 11 first down were the lowest by a Giants opponent since 2017 (Washington, 10).
  • Brandon Wilson’s 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Giants was the longest play in Bengals history.
  • Wilson’s kickoff return for a touchdown was the first the Giants have allowed on the road in 30 years (Dallas Cowboys, 1990).
  • Daniel Jones, Colt McCoy and Golden Tate all attempted a pass on Sunday, which is the first time three or more players have done that for the Giants since 2007.
  • Wayne Gallman scored a touchdown for the fifth consecutive game, the longest such streak since Saquon Barkley did it in 2018. It’s also the longest streak for rushing touchdowns since Andre Brown in 2012-2013.
  • Evan Engram’s 53-yard reception was the Giants’ longest pass play of the season.
  • With his four field goals, Graham Gano has now connected on 24 consecutive attempts. That is the second-longest such streak in Giants history (Josh Brown, 29).
  • Defensive end Niko Lalos made his NFL debut and recorded his first career interception.
  • Rookie safety Xavier McKinney made his NFL debut.

Stock up, down after Giants’ 19-17 victory over Bengals

Whose stock is up and whose is down following the New York Giants’ victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12?

https://embed.sendtonews.com/oembed/?SC=DyPHtBWGnN-1053790-7498&format=json&offsetx=0&offsety=0&floatwidth=400&floatposition=bottom-right&float=on

It’s been a long time since the New York Giants were a first place team in the NFC East, but after Sunday’s game, they have returned to that throne.

The Giants came away with a very important 19-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals and were able to not only improve to 4-7, but take over first place in the division.

Now, how long they hold onto the division lead is anyone’s guess. They will travel up to the Pacific Northwest to face the Seattle Seahawks, a team that the Giants have had struggles against over the last few years, in Week 13.

Before the Giants square off against one of the harder opponents on their schedule, whose stock was up and down after Sunday’s victory in Cincinnati?

Giants defeat Bengals: Winners, losers and those in between

Here are the winners, losers and those in between from the Giants Week 12 victory over the Bengals.

Sunday’s game between the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals turned into a battle of the backups after Daniel Jones exited with a hamstring injury late in the third quarter.

That thrust backup Colt McCoy into the game and the Giants’ offense did not do much scoring for the rest of the afternoon.

A brutal holding penalty by Cam Fleming negated what would’ve been the game-ending first down for Wayne Gallman and a 29-yard punt return put the Bengals at mid-field down two points.

Luckily, Jabaal Sheard produced a strip sack to end it as Leonard Williams recovered the ball for the Giants slamming the door shut.

Despite a stagnant offense following the departure of Jones, the defense made the difference forcing three turnovers to seal the deal.

Here are the winners, losers and those in between from the Giants Week 12 victory over the Bengals.

Giants take NFC East lead with win over Bengals, but lose Daniel Jones

The New York Giants took over the NFC East lead with a 19-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but lost QB Daniel Jones in the process.

The New York Giants entered Week 12 with an opportunity to take over the NFC East lead with the Philadelphia Eagles playing on Monday night. All they had to do was defeat the lowly Cincinnati Bengals, whom they were heavily favorited over.

The Giants, however, never make anything easy.

From start to finish, Sunday was an ugly game by both sides, highlighted by penalties, drops, miscues and above all else, devastating injuries.

Second-year quarterback Daniel Jones exited the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury, ushering in Colt McCoy, who was about as rusty as you might expect.

Things really slowed down from there and, like most Giants games this season, came down to the final moments. In the end, New York made the plays necessary to hang on (barely) and left Ohio with a defining victory.

These are some of the players Jason will be locking in his lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel for this weekend’s slate.

QUARTERBACKS

JOSH ALLEN, BUF

$7,600 DRAFTKINGS, $8,600 FANDUEL

This game in Buffalo will be a shootout and you want as much exposure as possible to this game. This game has an over under of 53 and comes in tied for the second highest total with the Raiders vs Falcons game and slightly behind the Chiefs vs Buccaneers.

Allen is coming off a bye week and two strong performances. The floor that Allen provides due to his running upside is elite and the matchup versus the 28th ranked team at defending the quarterback provides the upside we need. The Chargers offense moves at a fast pace and their defense loves to give up points so lock up Allen in Week 12.

JUSTIN HERBERT, LAC

$7,200 DRAFTKINGS, $8,400 FANDUEL

This kid is not good but great! I watched a bunch of last week’s game versus the Jets and Herbert made throws quarterbacks in the league for 5+ years don’t have the confidence, vision and arm strength to make. I know it’s too early to say this, but he reminds me of Aaron Rodgers.

Herbert has been great all season and is averaging 26.7 points a game with 2,699 passing yards through his first 9 games as a professional. The consistency, the fair price, and the matchup versus the 31st ranked defense against the quarterback is all I need to lock him up. Pair him up with some of the pass catchers below to complete the stack in Week 12.

RUNNING BACKS

DALVIN COOK, MIN

$9,500 DRAFTKINGS, $11,000 FANDUEL

If you can afford the price tag for the consistency and upside that Dalvin Cook brings go ahead and play him. It will be tough to squeeze him in on FanDuel, so I will be fading him for Nick Chubb and some other value backs. But I will try my best to get him on DraftKings for cash games and some tournaments.

Cook is coming off 27 and 30 rush attempt games and nobody in the league is getting the volume he is. He is also active in the pass game and is a dual threat any time he steps onto the field. On top of all that, the matchup versus Carolina is amazing. The Panthers have trouble defending the run and this won’t change in Week 12 versus the Vikings.

WAYNE GALLMAN, NYG

$5,000 DRAFTKINGS, $5,700 FANDUEL

I truly never thought the day would come where I am writing up Wayne Gallman, but its 2020 so expect the unexpected. When you score 5 touchdowns in the last 4 games you have to take notice. At a $5,000 price tag on DraftKings in a matchup against the ailing Bengals its going to be a tough fade. Not to mention the Giants are in the playoff hunt in the putrid NFC East.

This is a must-win spot for the Giants, they are facing a backup quarterback, and the game script should be in Gallman’s benefit. If ownership gets high on Gallman, look for pivots like Drake, Ballage, Bernard and Hunt for tournaments.

WIDE RECEIVERS

KEENAN ALLEN, LAC

$7,300 DRAFTKINGS, $7,400 FANDUEL

Keenan Allen has transitioned perfectly from Rivers to Herbert and hasn’t missed a beat. The rapport is there and it’s not shocking that Herbert is forcing the ball to Allen. Ever since the Chargers were forced to make the swap to Herbert, Allen’s numbers have gone up. Coming off a monster 16-catch, 145-yard performance in Week 11, he draws what could be a tougher matchup in Week 12.

Does good offense beat good defense? It did when Deandre Hopkins faced off against the Bills, Cooper Kupp also had a big game versus the Bills earlier in the season. So here is my take, have exposure to all 3 top Chargers receivers. In my Chargers stacks I will probably have 50% Allen, 25% Williams, and 25% Henry. I will also have some lineups with 2 receivers combined with Herbert and the same thing goes for my Allen stacks.

STEFON DIGGS, HOU

$7,600 DRAFTKINGS, $5,700 FANDUEL

Stefon Diggs has exceeded expectations in Buffalo alongside Josh Allen. There have been question marks about what to expect from Allen throwing the ball in general and specifically to Diggs due to accuracy problems. The haters have been hushed and from a numbers perspective one could argue that Diggs is inside the top 5 receiver category.

On paper this could look like another tough individual matchup, but when I saw the Jets just score 28, the Dolphins 29, the Raiders 31, and the Broncos 30 I’m not too worried. Again I love this game as a whole. Therefore I will also take shots on Cole Beasely at a discounted price in this game.

If you want some value Curtis Samuel and Damiere Byrd are also popping on our projection models.

TIGHT ENDS

DARREN WALLER, LV

$6,000 DRAFTKINGS, $7,100 FANDUEL

This Raider team is legit and could have easily been 2-0 against the Chiefs, if they had one more stop in them late in the game. The Raiders have exceeded my expectations and Gruden has done a great job with Carr and this entire team.

You get a solid floor and upside each week, and you can’t say that about too many tight ends on this slate. He is fairly priced on DraftKings and gets a matchup versus a Falcon team that struggles at defending the pass and the tight end specifically. If you can afford the safety, lock up Waller in Week 12.

HUNTER HENRY, LAC

$4,800 DRAFTKINGS, $5,900 FANDUEL

You can expect 4 receptions and 30+ yards from Henry as he has mirrored that stat line for the last 4 games. Catching touchdowns in the last two, you now have some upside you need in the mid tier. Again we love this matchup versus the Bills, and the cherry on top is the fact they are 30th worst at defending the tight end. In entries I fade Keenan, I will most likely turn to Henry as a strong pivot in a shootout game which could go slightly under owned.

DEFENSES

MIAMI DOLPHINS

$4,200 DRAFTKINGS, $5,000 FANDUEL

This Jets offense has woken up the past couple weeks but I’m not buying it at all. I will continue targeting them, the Jaguars, and now the Bengals since Burrow is out for the season. The Dolphins have been ball hawks, have forced 16 turnovers on the season, and have scored 3 defensive touchdowns. This is a must win for the Dolphins and I think they lay the hammer down on the Jets in Week 12.

NEW YORK GIANTS

$3,200 DRAFTKINGS, $4,300 FANDUEL

As I stated above Burrow is now done for the season so it’s time to load up against Brandon Allen, who is getting the start over Ryan Finley. This Giant defense is fighting for their playoff lives. They have greatly improved on the defensive side as the season has played out. They tend to keep the game lower scoring and have found ways to create turnovers and apply pressure to the quarterback. Give me the team versus a backup quarterback fighting for their playoff lives any day of the week.
