Updated list of Vikings free agents still left unsigned

Here’s a list of Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned.

The Minnesota Vikings are preparing for their first padded practice in their second week of training camp, while former players for the team are still looking for a job.

There are multiple key veteran players, including four-time Pro Bowler Anthony Barr, waiting around for the right offer from another team. Granted, it was recently reported that the Dallas Cowboys should be one of the teams to watch out for as a potential suitor for Barr.

And perhaps that’ll be the case for some of the other names on this list with interest eventually coming from other teams.

As we get deeper into training camp and eventually the preseason, more opportunities will arise with players getting injured or even cut from teams. That could open the door for players on this list to get back on the field. But until that happens, the waiting game will continue.

Former Vikings offensive tackle Rashod Hill was recently picked up by the Washington Commanders. So opportunity can clearly come knocking at any moment.

Here’s the updated list of Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned.

The last 12 Clemson 1,000-yard seasons

Since 2000, Clemson has had 12 1,000-yard rushing seasons, two of which came from the ACC’s all-time leading rusher.

Fans often throw Clemson into conversations for the nickname “WRU” because of the program’s history of producing great wide receivers, but people shouldn’t discredit the Tigers’ ability to pump out game-changing running backs.

Since 2000, Clemson has had 12 1,000-yard seasons from eight different rushers, four of which did it two times a piece.

Among them is the ACC’s all-time leading rusher, Travis Etienne, who rushed for just under 5,000 yards in his four seasons at Clemson.

As for Etienne’s replacement, Will Shipley is likely the next player to surpass the three-digit mark, as he rushed for 739 yards as a freshman in 2021.

With the start of the 2022 season under two months away, Shipley will soon have his chance to earn a spot on this list, but for now, here are Clemson’s last 12 1,000-yard seasons.

Bleacher Report re-grades Giants’ 2017 draft haul

Five years later, Bleacher Report re-graded the Giants’ 2017 draft haul.

We’re five years down the road on the 2017 NFL draft and it’s more than enough time for pundits to go back and re-grade that draft class.

Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report did just that. New York Giants fans will be surprised when they see that this class – although all have moved on – wasn’t that bad.

Moton grades the class a B-, which is surprising considering there are no “roster cornerstone” in the six-player group of tight end Evan Engram, defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson, quarterback Davis Webb, running back Wayne Gallman, defensive end Avery Moss and offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty.

Engram became a Pro Bowler after years of inconsistency and painful drops but it wasn’t enough for incoming general manager Joe Schoen. He was signed by Jacksonville this offseason.

Tomlinson had a solid four years with the Giants, starting every game but was not re-signed and was quickly scooped up by Minnesota.

Webb is actually back with the Giants after stints with the Jets and Buffalo. He is their third-string quarterback and is only here due to his knowledge of new head coach Brian Daboll’s offense.

Gallman played well as a committee back for the Giants but he bounced around with three teams last year and is currently a free agent. Moss and Bisnowaty both had short NFL careers.

Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned

Heading into the month of July, these are the Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned.

Training camp is right around the corner, and there are still impactful Minnesota Vikings free agents that have yet to be picked up by a team.

There have been some updates since we last checked in a month ago, most notably with wide receiver Chad Beebe finding a home with the Houston Texans, and Dede Westbrook receiving a contract offer to return to Minnesota.

Beebe fell through the cracks when he was still with the Vikings due to the rapidly growing talent at the receiver position. The arrival of players like K.J. Osborn and Ihmir Smith-Marsette pretty much ensured that he’d never see the field.

He’s hopeful that’ll change as a veteran for a Texans team seeking new direction.

Meanwhile, Westbrook still remains a free agent, despite receiving a contract offer from the Vikings after a spring workout. However, he turned down that offer, and the team signed Albert Wilson to a one-year deal instead.

Keep in mind, more opportunities will obviously open up when teams get into camp, and rosters are impacted by performance and injuries. Here’s the list of Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned in July.

List of remaining unsigned Vikings free agents

There are some surprising names on this list

With OTAs wrapping up and veteran mandatory minicamp right around the corner, there are still some noteworthy names on the list of Minnesota Vikings free agents that remain unsigned.

The biggest name on that list is obviously former four-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro outside linebacker Anthony Barr.

After spending eight seasons with the Vikings, Barr’s contract was allowed to expire in the offseason ahead of the regime shift in Minnesota.

Not only did the team replace him with Za’Darius Smith, but they also gave away the No. 55 jersey he wore during his time with the franchise.

It’s a bit shocking that he’s still one of the players on this list considering he’s more than capable of helping a team in need at the linebacker position. The same could be said about other names on this list as well, assuming they end up in the right situation.

Here are the Vikings free agents that still remain unsigned to this point.

Vikings 2022 offseason preview: Where does Minnesota stand at RB?

How will Cook and Mattison be utilized in O’Connell’s offense?

There isn’t nearly as much drama for the Minnesota Vikings at running back. Dalvin Cook, the three-time Pro Bowler, is still Mr. Do-It-All on offense, while Alexander Mattison remains one of the best emergency glass options in the NFL.

It’ll be interesting to see how the offense evolves under the guidance of head coach Kevin O’Connell, who has already confirmed he’d be the one conducting the offensive play-calling. Of course, newly-hired offensive coordinator Wes Phillips will be involved as well.

Cook’s usage rate has clearly increased with him averaging more carries over the last two seasons than he has throughout his entire career. Will things continue to trend in that direction, or will O’Connell put the ball into the hands of quarterback Kirk Cousins even more, assuming he’s still on the team?

Here are where things stand right now in the offensive backfield for the Vikings.

Report: Vikings RB Alexander Mattison to miss Bears game

The Vikings won’t have RB Alexander Mattison for Monday night.

The Vikings announced earlier on Monday they placed RB Alexander Mattison on the COVID-19/Reserve list. Mattison will miss the Monday night game against the Bears, according to a report.

Mattison is unvaccinated, which means he will have to quarantine for 10 days, as first reported by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. The Vikings’ backup running back is feeling fine, per Tomasson.

Minnesota definitely takes a hit to its running back unit with the news. The Vikings still have a more-than-capable primary back in Dalvin Cook. Cook also gets more days of rest in between games this week, because the Vikings played on Thursday.

However, Minnesota gave Cook 27 carries for 205 rushing yards in Week 14. The Vikings could have used depth running backs for Week 15 in Chicago. The team claimed RB Wayne Gallman off waivers, which should help replace some of Mattison’s production. Gallman has played in six games this season, all of which came with the Falcons. He had 104 on 28 carries for Atlanta this year.

It looks like the ‘Wayne Train’ will be back on the field soon.  Earlier today the Minnesota Vikings claimed Gallman off waivers from Atlanta.

This season Gallman has 27 carries for 104 yards.

Former Falcons RB Wayne Gallman claimed by Vikings

Gallman, who previously served as Atlanta’s third running back, has been claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Vikings.

Prior to the Falcons’ Week 14 victory over the Panthers, the team waived running back Wayne Gallman and signed Qadree Ollison to the active roster in his place.

Gallman, who previously served as Atlanta’s third running back behind Mike Davis and Cordarrelle Patterson, was been claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.

Gallman had appeared in six games this season for Atlanta, rushing for 104 yards on 28 carries. He also had one reception for 21 receiving yards.

Ollison had five carries for 23 yards during Sunday’s win over the Panthers, but also fumbled the ball. After the game, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said he wasn’t concerned about the fumble and has faith in Ollison.

In other roster news, Erik Harris is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle and three players landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.

Vikings make several roster moves

The Vikings made some moves Monday.

Minnesota’s season has not gone to plan. The Vikings have their excuses, though: they’ve had to deal with injuries and other absences at key positions.

The team’s depth took another hit this week when it had to place RB Alexander Mattison and WR Dan Chisena on the COVID-19/Reserve list. Additionally, the Vikings added G Kyle Hinton to the COVID-19/Reserve Practice Squad list.

More bad news: Minnesota added LB Ryan Connelly to IR. The Vikings’ health at the linebacker position has been shaky recently with Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr and Blake Lynch all missing time in the past two games.

The Vikings claimed RB Wayne Gallman off waivers, at least. Gallman has played in six games this season, all of which came with the Falcons. Atlanta waived Gallman after he rushed for 104 on 28 carries for them this year.

Minnesota won’t find a solid replacement for Mattison, considering he’s one of the best backup running backs in the NFL. That said, Gallman can help patch up the hole.
