Injury Report: Kevon Looney (hip soreness) ruled out for the next 3 weeks

The Golden State Warriors will be without their veteran center for three weeks.

In an injury-riddled season, Kevon Looney played one of his best games of the year in the Golden State Warriors comeback win over the Phoenix Suns.

The UCLA product recorded 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes. Since scoring in double-figures against the Suns, Looney missed the next three contests for the Warriors with hip soreness.

Looney’s absence from Golden State will continue to grow as the Warriors have officially ruled out their veteran center for the next three weeks.

After experiencing “ongoing symptoms,” Looney’s hip will be re-evaluated on March 28. Looney has missed 39 games this season with a neuropathic condition, abdominal and hip soreness. The Golden State center will miss at least the next nine games before being re-evaluated.

Without Looney, Golden State will lean heavily on breakout center Marquese Chriss. Dragan Bender and Alen Smailagic will be options for the frontcourt off the bench for Steve Kerr.

Damion Lee’s 24 points vs. Sixers snaps Golden State’s 10-game home losing streak, 118-114

Damion Lee dropped 24-points to lead the depleted Warriors to victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

While the game was lacking star power, the Golden State Warriors tilt against the Philadelphia 76ers lived up to its Saturday night primetime billing. Although Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid we’re all ruled out due to injury – the game turned into a nail biter late.

The Sixers held an eight-point lead going into the final period, but it wasn’t enough against the comeback Warriors. Golden State roared back into the game behind clutch shooting from Damion Lee and Mychal Mulder.

Mulder drilled an open 3-pointer with two minutes remaining in the game to give Golden State a two-point lead. Timely free throw shooting and a pair of defensive stops sealed the Warriors comeback win over Philadelphia, 118-114.

The Warriors win snapped a season-long 10-game home losing streak. Golden State will now get two days off before hosting Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers at Chase Center.

Damion Lee

After missing a pair of free throws and an open 3-pointer late against the Toronto Raptors, Lee bounced back with an impressive performance with the Sixers in town.

Lee led the Warriors in scoring with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting. The former two-way contract guard added six rebounds and three assists against Philadelphia.

The Drexel product has scored over 23 points in his past two games while knocking down eight 3-pointers in that span.

Marquese Chriss

Marquese Chriss punched his third double-double in the past four games with 13 points and 10 rebounds against the Sixers. Although the former lottery pick racked up numbers on offense, his defense was key in Golden State’s win.

With a one-point Warriors lead and under 30 seconds remaining, Chriss swiped a crucial block against Philadelphia’s Mike Scott. The former Washington Husky’s improbable block set up Mulder to knock down two free throws to extend Golden State’s late lead.

Mychal Mulder

Mulder got the starting nod in the final day of his 10-day contract and continued his impressive play. The Kentucky shooter recorded a career-high 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting with 3-of-7 shots coming from beyond the arc.

Golden State is 3-3 since signing Mulder, with wins over the playoff-bound Sixers and Denver Nuggets. The Canadian guard has scored 14 or more points in four of the six games through his 10-day deal.

It’s safe to say Mulder is proving he belongs in the NBA longer than 10 days.

Injury Report: Stephen Curry ruled out vs. Sixers with the flu

Stephen Curry has been ruled out against the Philadelphia 76ers with the seasonal flu.

Against the Toronto Raptors, Stephen Curry made his long-awaited return to the court after missing four months due to injury. Just one game later, Curry is back on the injury report.

The two-time Most Valuable Player has been ruled out against the Philadelphia 76ers with the flu.

The Warriors announced Curry has been diagnosed with “the seasonal flu.” In a status update, Golden State confirmed Curry is not dealing with the coronavirus — “he has no specific risk factors for COVID-19.”

Before the Warriors game against the 76ers was underway, Steve Kerr spoke to reporters about Curry’s illness.

Via Anthony Slater of The Athletic:

I was with Steph yesterday at practice and then also in Oakland yesterday afternoon, and he was fine. He woke up this morning feeling sick. His young son was sick for a couple of days. He probably got it from his son. Our doctors checked him out, and it is the basic flu.

Curry will have three days off with his next chance to return to the court being Tuesday when Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers come to San Francisco.

Preview: Three 76ers-Warriors questions with Sixers Wire’s Ky Carlin

Warriors Wire caught up with sister site editor Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire to help preview Golden State’s matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The playoff-bound Philadelphia 76ers are in the final leg of a four-game road trip as they come into San Francisco for a matchup with the Golden State Warriors. In round two between Philadelphia and Golden State, things could not be more different for both clubs.

After moving a bevy of players at the NBA trade deadline, The Warriors will welcome back Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks as members of the 76ers. In their second matchup, Golden State will roll out essentially a new rotation with Stephen Curry back from injury. For Philadelphia, both Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid will be out due to injury against the Warriors in Chase Center.

To help break down the Golden State’s matchup with the 76ers, Warriors Wire teamed up with USA Today’s sister site Sixers Wire.

Sixers Wire Editor Ky Carlin answered three questions for Warriors Wire leading up to Philadelphia’s Saturday night tilt with Golden State.

1) What’s changed since they last met?

Well, for one, a few Warriors are now Sixers. Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III are donning red, white, and blue jerseys after being acquired by the 76ers at the deadline. Another thing is, the Sixers are banged up by a lot of injuries. Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, as well as possibly Josh Richardson, are not available for this matchup.

Due to that change, the offense is a lot faster. Things are sped up and the team relies more on Tobias Harris and Al Horford to create for themselves.

2) What will it take for each team to win?

For Philadelphia, it’s simple: continue to knock down open threes and hope Horford and Harris can be effective. Also, Shake Milton has to hold his own against Stephen Curry. He has done a great job so far on this trip of holding the fort in place of Simmons. Philadelphia will also need more big performances from Burks, Furkan Korkmaz, and Robinson III to win this one.

For Golden State, it’s an uphill battle. Not having Embiid to deal with will help them a bit. However, if Horford can carry over his performance from their win over the Sacramento Kings, then that changes things. Curry will have to have a classic superhuman performance.

3) Is there anything else we should know about the matchup, or the Warriors?

Philadelphia is shooting 45% from deep on their road trip so far. That is a huge number when considering they could not hit the side of a barn from deep on the road prior to this trip. The Sixers have been able to play with more space, there’s more ball movement, and shots have come easy for them without the stars. Keeping an eye on their shooting will be a true storyline for this one.

Klay Thompson goes through non-contact drills at Warriors practice

Klay Thompson made an appearance at the Golden State Warriors’ recent practice.

The Golden State Warriors welcomed the long-awaited return of Stephen Curry against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night. The Warriors have been without their two-time Most Valuable Player for the past 58 games due to a broken left hand.

In his first game in four months, Curry racked up 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 27 minutes against the Raptors. The addition of Golden State’s six-time All-Star provided a glimpse of the Warriors of old. The team launched a season-high 52 shots from beyond the arc with Curry back on the floor.

In Curry’s return, something was still missing for the Warriors. Golden State is still without the other member of the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson. The Washington State product has been ruled out the entire 2019-20 season with a knee injury he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.

However, Thompson made an appearance at Golden State’s practice the day after Curry returned to the floor.

The injured shooting guard went through non-contact team drills with his teammates and coaches.

Thompson also spent time getting up jumpers in a shooting workout at practice.

While Thompson won’t play this season for the Warriors, he has yet to be ruled out from the 2020 Olympics. With training camp starting in July, Thompson was named a finalist for Team USA basketball. The next time Thompson suits up for game action could be in Tokyo at the Olympic games.

LeBron James shares support of Steph Curry during his return from injury

The basketball world missed Stephen Curry.

The basketball world missed Stephen Curry.

The two-time Most Valuable Player made his long-awaited return to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors after missing the previous four months due to a broken left hand.

In Curry’s return to the court, fellow stars around the league were watching. While LeBron James has had his battles with the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers’ MVP candidate reached out in support of Curry Thursday night.

James posted on social media he was happy to see Curry back in his “sanctuary.”

In Golden State’s 121-113 loss to the Raptors, Curry dropped 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and 3-of-12 from long distance. The Golden State point guard added seven assists and seven rebounds in 27 minutes in his first game since injuring his hand.

James and Curry will reunite across from each other for the first time this season when the Warriors travel to the Staples Center in Los Angeles on April 7.

Norman Powell’s career high 37 points spoils Steph Curry’s return from injury, 121-113

Stephen Curry’s 23 points in his return from injury wasn’t enough against the defending champion Toronto Raptors.

In a rematch of the 2019 Finals, the Golden State Warriors game against the Toronto Raptors was one of the most anticipated games on the NBA’s slate. Stephen Curry made his long-awaited return to the court after missing the past 58 games.

Yet, the defending NBA champions spoiled Curry’s reunion at Chase Center in San Francisco, 121-113.

The Warriors battled the Eastern Conference playoff-bound Raptors late into the game. However, even with Curry’s help, Golden State could not closeout.

The Dubs cut the Raptors lead to one-point heading into the final period of the game. Yet, the talent of Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry took over the contest. Golden State made it entertaining at the end of the game with a late run with Curry on the floor, but it wasn’t enough.

Lowry and Siakam combined for 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting in the fourth quarter to hold off the gritty Warriors.

The Raptors sealed Golden State’s 10th straight loss at home this season. The Warriors will have the chance to snap their 10-game home losing streak on Saturday when the Philadelphia 76ers come to the Bay Area.

Stephen Curry

Curry was on a minutes restriction against the Raptors, but the six-time All-Star took advantage of his time back on the court. Curry scored 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting in 27 minutes. Curry added seven assists and six rebounds against the Raptors.

In his return, Curry flashed glimpses of his All-Star caliber play. Whether it was long-distance shooting or crafty passes, the two-time Most Valuable Player looked like his old self on the court.

Norman Powell

All-Stars like Siakam and Lowry lead the Raptors, but against the Warriors, Norman Powell arrived. Powell registered a career-high 37 points on 13-of-20 shooting in 38 minutes for the Raptors. The UCLA product added three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Anytime the Warriors chipped away at Toronto’s lead, Powell answered.

Damion Lee

Damion Lee continued his breakout campaign with another solid performance. Lee matched Curry’s total with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting while adding five rebounds and three assists.

Lee had back-to-back chances to keep the Warriors in the game late, but could not convert a pair of free throws. When Marquese Chriss stole an offensive rebound, Lee missed an open 3-pointer to cut Toronto’s lead to three with under a minute remaining.

Highlighting Steph Curry’s top moments in his return from injury vs. Raptors

Steph Curry tallied 23 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in 27 minutes in his first game back from injury.

After a four-month rehab, Stephen Curry made his long-awaited return to the Golden State Warriors lineup. The two-time Most Valuable Player has missed the past 58 games with a broken hand. Curry was limited to a minutes restriction in his much-anticipated return against the Toronto Raptors.

In Golden State 121-113 home loss to Toronto, Curry scored 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. Golden State’s point guard added seven assists and seven rebounds in 27 minutes against the Raptors.

Here are some of Curry’s highlights in his first game since breaking his left hand in late October:

Dropping dimes

Early in the game, Curry displayed his surgically repaired hand with a crafty no-look pass to Andrew Wiggins for an easy two points.

And one

Curry’s first points came from a runner at the elbow that counted with former Warriors draft pick Patrick McCaw fouling him. Curry nailed the free throw giving him three points to start his night.

Buzzer beating

With the shot clock winding down in the second quarter, Curry had a vintage moment. McCaw flew out to Curry near the Chase Center logo and the long-distance shooter drilled a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Count all four

In the third quarter against the Raptors, Curry broke out one of his signature celebrations. The six-time All-Star nailed a top of the key 3-pointer and was fouled by Kyle Lowry. After the foul, Curry counted his fingers to signal the four-point play.

Watch: Steph Curry threads no-look highlight reel pass with left hand

In his first game back from injury, Steph Curry drops highlight-reel dime with his surgically repaired left hand.

It has been 58 games since Stephen Curry suited up in his No. 30 Golden State Warriors uniform. Finally, Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors, that changed.

In Curry’s return to Golden State’s lineup for the first time in four months, all eyes were on his left hand. Since getting injured in late October against the Phoenix Suns, Curry’s hand has gone through two surgeries and a tedious rehab.

Outside of scrimmaging in practice, Curry’s hand has gone through a limited amount of full-contact situations. The two-time Most Valuable Player’s hand was bound to get tested against the Raptors.

The six-time All-Star didn’t waste any time using his surgically repaired hand. Curry whipped a behind the back no-look pass to Andrew Wiggins underneath the basket for an easy layup.

Via @Warriors:

Curry still has a long way to go as he works back from injury over the remaining 20 games on the schedule. Still, his highlight reel pass with his left hand is a positive sign for the future.

Injury Report: Warriors without Draymond Green (sore knee) for Steph Curry’s return vs. Raptors

Draymond Green won’t be on the floor for Stephen Curry’s return to game action against the Raptors.

The Golden State Warriors game against the Toronto Raptors has quickly turned into one of the biggest days on the NBA calendar. Injured All-Star Stephen Curry will make his long-awaited return with the Raptors in San Francisco.

Curry has missed the past four months for the Golden State Warriors, but will return to the lineup against the defending NBA champions. The two-time Most Valuable Player will have a minutes restriction in his first game back from injury.

With one of Golden State’s core pieces returning, the Warriors will be without Draymond Green for another game.

Green will miss his fourth consecutive game with a sore knee. The former Defensive Player of the Year has played less than 10 minutes in the Warriors past six games after being ejected against the Los Angeles Lakers. With Green ruled out for Toronto, he has now missed 18 games during the 2019-20 season due to injury.

Steve Kerr gave an update on Green’s injury before the Warriors tipped off against the Raptors.

Via Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area:

Without Green, the Warriors have started Juan Toscano-Anderson and Dragan Bender. Off the bench, Eric Paschall has played a significant role with Golden State lacking frontcourt depth.
