ChatGPT’s top 10 Notre Dame tight ends not including Michael Mayer

Remember any of these guys?

ChatGPT is a useful AI writing tool, but it’s not without its flaws. You have to be specific in what you want when you enter a prompt. Otherwise, it will assume things that aren’t true, and you have to enter the prompt again to account for the things that weren’t correct initially. While it doesn’t take much time to edit and regenerate prompts, it still can be mildly frustrating.

Another problem, at least at the moment, is that it only accounts for information through September 2021. Since then, [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag] became arguably the best tight end in Notre Dame history. So when we asked ChatGPT to generate what it believes is the program’s top 10 tight ends, Mayer wasn’t included.

The point of this particular introduction is to explain why Mayer isn’t on this list. But hopefully, you have fond memories of the 10 names ChatGPT did generate. Without further adieu, here it is, edited for accuracy:

Watch how Kenneth Walker found out he won two player of the year awards

Watch Kenneth Walker’s reaction to winning two of college football’s most prestigious awards

Last night we found out that Kenneth Walker was going to be winning the Doak Walker Award and the Walter Camp Award. Walker will be the first player in Spartan program history to win either award.

In light of his recent Heisman snub, it is refreshing to see Walker win two nationally recognized, major awards. The Doak Walker Award is given out to the nation’s best running back and the Walter Camp Award is given out to the nation’s most outstanding player.

You can watch Walker’s reaction to hearing he had won both awards below:

He might not be a Heisman finalist, but Kenneth Walker III is your 2021 Walter Camp Player of the Year. The Michigan State football running back earned the award on Thursday evening, along with being named a Walter Camp All-American.

The Walter Camp Player of the Year award is voted on by the nation’s 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.

Other finalists for the award included Bryce Young (Alabama), Kenny Pickett (Pitt), Aidan Hutchinson (Michigan) and Jordan Davis (Georgia).

Walker is the first MSU player to win the award and the first running back to win it since Derrick Henry in 2015. Devonta Smith won the award last year.

Alabama QB Bryce Young named finalist for Walter Camp Player of the Year

Bryce Young would be the fourth Crimson Tide star to win the award!

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young may only be a first-year starter, but the sophomore from California is playing some solid football. To open the season, he may not have been as poised as those that came before him in recent years, but as the season has progressed, Young was able to show how he’s grown as a player.

Today, the finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award were announced, and Young made the cut.

The award “is presented annually to the most outstanding player of the year in college football who has exemplified the qualities of self-discipline, unselfish team play, desire to excel, mature judgement and respect for leadership.”

Young has put up some impressive numbers n 2021, tallying 3,901 yards and 40 touchdowns on 68.9% completion while only throwing 4 interceptions.

Only three Alabama players have won the award: Derrick Henry (2015), Tua Tagovailoa (2018) and DeVonta Smith (2020), according to Alabama Football’s official release.

Jahan Dotson is only receiver in mix for Walter Camp Player of the Year

Penn State football: The Walter Camp Award thinks Penn State’s Jahan Dotson is the best receiver in college football

Penn State’s best offensive player made the semifinalist cut for one of college football’s top individual awards. On Thursday, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced the 15 players who were selected as semifinalists for this year’s Walter Camp Football Foundation 2021 Player of the Year Award. Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson was among those who made the cut.

Dotson was the only wide receiver to be named a semifinalist for the award, which could be a good sign for Dotson’s chances of winning the Biletnikoff Award (although the awards are operated by separate organizations). The list of 15 semifinalists will be trimmed down to a smaller list of five finalists on Thursday, Dec. 2. The winner will be announced during ESPN’s College Football Awards Show the following week, on Thursday, Dec. 9.

Wide receivers aren’t typically likely to eventually win the Walter Camp Award, although last season saw that happen. Alabama’s DeVonta Smith added the Walter Camp Award to his impressive collection of hardware that also included the Heisman Trophy last season. The only other receivers to be named Walter Camp Award winner have been Larry Fitzgerald of Pitt in 2003, Desmond Howard of Michigan in 1991, Raghib Ismail of Notre Dame in 1990, and Tim Brown of Notre Dame in 1987.

Dotson is looking to be Penn State’s first Walter Camp Award winner since Larry Johnson won the award in 2002. The only other Penn State player to win the award was Vinny Testaverde during his 1973 Heisman Trophy season.

The last player from the Big Ten to win the Walter Camp Award was Troy Smith of Ohio State in 2006.

Chris Olave makes Walter Camp preseason watch list

Yet another preseason accolade for Chris Olave.

Yes, I know, I know — all of these college football awards watch lists. But hey, it’s our job to keep you informed with Ohio State football, and at least you follow a team that’s so good it gets players littered across these preseason accolades.

The latest OSU player to make a preseason watch list is one that’s already appeared on a few, wide receiver Chris Olave. On Friday, the leading Buckeye receiver from last season was one of 35 names appearing on the preseason Walter Camp Player of the Year Award watch list.

You know Olave’s story well. He went from an unheralded 3-star recruit to one of the most dangerous deep threats in college football. Had he decided to leave early for the NFL last season, he may have been a first-rounder, and no doubt would have been one of the top receivers on the board. Instead, he decided to scale the banks of the Olentangy one more time in 2021, and we’re happy he did.

With an exceptional year, Olave has a shot to break some Ohio State receiving records. We say if he does, it’s a positive development towards the Buckeyes doing some pretty special things in 2021.

The Walter Camp is voted on by the Walter Camp Foundation and has been awarded since 1967. It goes to the college football “player of the year,” not unsimilar to the Heisman and Maxwell.

The award is scheduled to be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 9, 2021. An Ohio State player has won the Walter Camp four times. Archie Griffin went back-to-back in 1974 and 1975, Eddie George won it in 1995, and Troy Smith took it home in 2006.

Three Ohio State players make Walter Camp preseason All-American squad

A trio of Ohio State players were selected as 2020 preseason Walter Camp All-Americans Thursday.

Though it’s not a nod to what will happen during the 2020 season, it does speak to what’s already happened and the expectations of what is to come this fall. The Walter Camp Football Foundation released its 2020 college football Walter Camp preseason All-American team Thursday, and there are three Ohio State players appearing.

Offensive guard Wyatt Davis made the first team, with quarterback Justin Fields and cornerback Shaun Wade appearing on the second team. In all, fifty players were selected from 22 different schools encompassing eight different conferences.

Per a release from Ohio State:

“Davis, from Bellflower, Calif., blossomed into one of the nation’s top interior linemen last season as a first-year starter. While paving the way for an offense that averaged 529.9 yards per game, Davis was voted a first team All-American by the Associated Press, CBS Sports and The Sporting News. He’s one of three returning starters along the offensive line for the 2020 Buckeyes.”

“Fields enjoyed one of the best statistical seasons in program history in 2019 as a first-year starter. The Kennesaw, Ga., native threw for 3,273 yards and 41 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He accounted for 51 total touchdowns and became the first player in Big Ten history with 40 passing TDs and 10 rushing TDs in the same season. In addition to being the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year and Quarterback of the Year, Fields was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.”

“Wade, a rising fourth-year junior, is Ohio State’s most experienced returnee in the secondary, having played in 27 games over the last two seasons. A third team All-Big Ten selection in 2019, he had 26 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, one interception, two forced fumbles and eight pass breakups. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, he led the team with three interceptions.”

The announcement of the Walter Camp preseason All-American team adds to the preseason selection to the Lott IMPACT trophy’s preseason watchlist that also included Shaun Wade.

There will be more preseason watchlist and recognitions to trickle out as we get closer and closer to the season. As they do, we’ll have all of it for you.

Ohio State with three players named as Walter Camp semifinalists

The Walter Camp Award announced its twenty semifinalists Thursday and Ohio State has three players that made the cut.

The Walter Camp Award narrowed its list down to twenty semifinalists Thursday. The award, similar to the Heisman and Maxwell, honors the best college football player annually and has been handed out since 1967.

Ohio State has some great representation, joining just Clemson with three players listed in the twenty announced today by the Walter Camp Foundation.

The three that made the cut are players you can probably guess. Quarterback Justin Fields, running back J.K. Dobbins, and defensive end Chase Young are all moving on with a shot at taking the hardware home.

Five finalists will be named on Dec. 5, and the winner will be announced on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, December 12.

The only other Ohio State players to win the award were Archie Griffin in 1974 and ’75, Eddie George in 1995, and Troy Smith in 2006.
