Notre Dame among schools Wright State forward will visit

The Irish could use him.

With Notre Dame losing almost all of its returning depth at forward, it will take any help it can get at that position. However, relief could be coming in the form of Grant Basile, who will look elsewhere to use up his remaining eligibility after four years at Wright State. Notre Dame is one of four programs Basile will visit over the next few weeks:

Basile ranked first in rebounds and second in scoring for the Raiders this past season. That meant he played a big role in the Raiders reaching their first NCAA Tournament since 2018, which was made possible by them winning the Horizon League Tournament. He led the Raiders with 21 points in their first-round loss to Arizona, the top seed in the South Regional.

After playing only three games as a freshman, Basile appeared in 92 games over the next three years, starting 56 of them, including all 36 as a senior. For his career, he is averaging 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds a game while shooting 52.7% from the field.

Basile’s lone game against an ACC opponent came this past season at NC State. In an 84-70 Raiders win, he dominated with 23 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and four assists.

Notre Dame Baseball keeps rolling, winning steak extends to five games

The streak is not a handful

The Irish have found their groove again and they are really starting to play some great baseball. After enduring a four-game losing streak, which started with a Louisville swept and extended with the one-game series loss to Virginia Tech, Link Jarrett’s team has caught fire once again.

A mid-week win against Northern Illinois got them back into the win column, then a sweep against #5 Florida State in Tallahassee really propelled the Irish again. They kept the good times going today, as they welcomed in Butler and surprising had a battle on their hands. Eventually the Irish overcame the Bulldogs and won 5-2.

Offensively it was two-way star Jack Brannigan, who launched his fourth homer of the year. Spencer Myers, Nick Juaire and Zack Prajzner also added RBI on the day. Although Radek Birkholz struggled on the mound, giving up two runs, his teammates picked him up. Relievers Ryan McLinksey, Jack Findlay, Jackson Dennies and Austin Temple collectively allowed no runs.

The win puts the Irish record at 17-5, with an upcoming series at home against ACC foe Clemson. Notre Dame will look to extend their winning streak to six games Friday night as first pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm EST.

It’s going to be one of the craziest offseasons yet with the transfer portal, a whole lot of big transitions, and several key teams needing to do a whole lot of work.

Before diving into the nuts and bolts of each team with our team-by-team Preview 2022, here’s the spring version quick look, prediction, and ranking of each ACC team.

Don’t get into any sort of a twist with these ACC rankings – you could take about ten of the teams, mix them up in any order, and you’ll probably be right.

Seriously, if you want to swap 11 and 12 on this with, say, 4 and 5, go for it – that’s how even this league should be. If you thought last year was weird in the conference, just wait.

The rankings are based on how good the teams should be and not the final projected records. Keeping in mind that this all could/might/will change when we make the final calls in August …

The streak is over, Notre Dame Baseball gets back in win column

That was a long two weeks

It has been a very difficult two weeks for the Irish baseball team. First getting swept at Louisville, having their midweek game against Northwestern postponed, then losing the series opener to Virginia Tech and having the weather cancel the remainder of the series. Notre Dame last won a game on March 15th and two weeks from that date, their four-game losing streak is finally over.

The bats were hot and the pitching was very solid, as the Irish defeated Northern Illinois, 11-2 at Frank Eck Stadium. It must have been a huge weight off the shoulders of the Irish, finally getting a chance to celebrate a win again.

Although starter Liam Simon only went 2 and 2/3 innings, the did enough to set the tone for the pitching staff. He allowed the only runs of the game, one unearned, as the remaining pitchers (Roman Kimball, Jack Findlay, Radek Birkholz and Jackson Dennies) each saw their outings end without giving up a run.

Offensively it was Jared Miller and Zach Prajzner leading the charge, both driving in two runs each with Prajzner topping the team with three hits on the day. The Irish will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Tallahassee to face off against Florida State in a three-game set that begins Friday night.

Notre Dame doesn’t get another chance to break losing streak vs Virginia Tech

Gotta love Midwestern spring weather

Midwest weather in March is brutal. One day it can be a beautiful 60 degrees with plenty of sunshine, only to tease actual nice spring weather and the harsh climates return to remind us that the days of t-shirts and shorts are still not close for us to enjoy.

That terrible Midwest weather reared it’s ugly head again this weekend, as the cold and rain has put an early end to Notre Dame’s home series against Virginia Tech. Saturday and Sunday’s contests have been canceled, meaning that the Irish will have to wait until Tuesday to break their four-game losing streak.

Unfortunately the Irish did not break that losing streak Friday afternoon, all of which have come at the hands of ACC foes. The Link Jarrett’s team will hope the weather cooperates on Tuesday, as they play host to Northern Illinois.

Notre Dame Baseball set host Virginia Tech in first ACC home series

The Irish finally host an ACC opponent at home this season

The Irish we not able to play their midweek game against Northwestern for a variety of reasons, but all signs look good for this weekend’s matchup against Virginia Tech. The Hokies are Notre Dame’s first home ACC opponent of the season and the Irish are looking to haul a three-game losing streak.

In an effort to do so, Link Jarrett switched up his starting rotation, with ace John Michael Bertrand set to take the hill in game one. Previous series saw Aidan Tyrell starting the opener, with Bertrand after him and Austin Temple finishing up the series. There is currently not a named starter for game two, which leads many to believe that Jarrett will send his righty, Temple to the mound with Tyrell taking the finale.

This makes plenty of sense after last weeks sweep at the hands of Louisville, with the starters going lefty, righty, lefty, to change the look for the Hokie hitters. The Irish enter the game with a 12-4 record, while VT is 13-6. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm EST at Frank Eck Stadium.

What DT Tim Settle said about signing with the Bills: ‘Why not Buffalo?’

What DT Tim Settle said about signing with the #Bills: ‘Why not Buffalo?’

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane had a very active week, moving swiftly to shore up vacancies left by departing free agents and address needs in the team’s roster.

With six defensive linemen on expiring deals, it stood to reason there might be some new talent added to the trenches, especially as that’s a focal point of GM Brandon Beane’s strategy and approach in building a competitive team.

One of those exact types of moves that came this week included adding 24-year-old defensive tackle Tim Settle.

Settle joins the Bills interior line after spending his first four years in the NFL with Washington, inking a two-year agreement that features up to $800k in sack incentives. He’s even thought by some to be the biggest steal of free agency.

During his first day of media availability, he was asked why he chose to come to Buffalo. His response was right to the point.

“Why not Buffalo?” Settle said while addressing the press.

“The atmosphere, just who this team is, the energy they bring. Their family is welcoming, I feel like when it came down to picking a decision it was kind of real easy just seeing what this team does every year, who they have, and what they’re capable of,” he added.

The versatile young DT was excited to join the Bills and enthusiastic about playing alongside his new teammate in Buffalo, defensive tackle Ed Oliver.

“I like his energy, he brings it, he’s going to give it his all, I know that. And we gone get to the quarterback.”

His excitement during his introductory press conference sparked a wave of favorable responses on social media as well.

He also shared what the perception of Buffalo is as a team to players around the league. “It looks like they want to win, and everybody looks like they want to win. They play like they want to win, you can tell every week they want to win. It’s a winning culture here, that’s what we want to be a part of. From the bottom to the top, they want to win.”

A college teammate of Tremaine Edmunds at Virginia Tech, Settle seems like he’ll be a solid fit both on and off the field for the Bills with their defensive group and fanbase.

“I definitely talked to Tremaine,” he said. “We already have a connection, I know how he plays and he knows how I play, everything should feel perfectly fine. Everything should feel like it’s normal. It’s definitely going to feel good being able to play with him again.”

As he walked off the podium, he had one final thing to say to the press and to Bills fans.

“Y’all gonna love me!

No. 6 Texas vs. No. 11 Virginia Tech: Stream, broadcast info for Friday

Texas vs. Virginia Tech is one of the most intriguing matchups of the weekend.

The No. 6 seeded Texas Longhorns will take on the No. 11 seed Virginia Tech Hokies in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. Many experts expect a close battle between the two.

Texas and Virginia Tech enter the tournament trending in opposite directions. The Horns are riding a three-game losing streak, the most recent loss being a second half collapse against TCU in the Big 12 tournament.

The Hokies on the other hand are as hot as any team in the country, winning four straight games to claim the ACC tournament title and an automatic bid in the big dance.

Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen will be the difference makers for Texas in this game. The Longhorns are tough to beat when they are hitting shots and limiting turnovers.

Here’s when and how to tune in to see the anticipated first round matchup.
