The bar has been set for Irish baseball and it’s high. In the two full seasons that [autotag]Link Jarrett[/autotag] has been at the helm, Notre Dame has made it to the Super Regionals last year and this year the College World Series. Although neither trip resulted in hardware being brought back to South Bend, the play has set a standard for the Irish. Here are three factors for the Notre Dame Baseball team to make a return to Omaha next season.

The post-season starts today for the Irish

The Irish are back on the diamond today, as the second seed in the Stateboro Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. After last years amazing run to the Super Regionals, the expectations rose in [autotag]Link Jarrett’s[/autotag] first full season as the Notre Dame head coach. Another trip to the ‘Sweet 16’ won’t come easy, but here are four reasons why they will.

Notre Dame Baseball beats Michigan, keeps winning streak alive

The winning streak is just short to two handfuls

For the most part, midweek home games shouldn’t be much of a challenge, they’re set up to get the younger players and pitchers some playing time. That’s not always the case, especially when you are hosting a team that went to the College World Series finale just two seasons ago.

For the Irish baseball team, over the last two seasons, they have emerged as the Midwest baseball power, overtaking Michigan for that honor. Those two teams faced off against each other on Tuesday night at Frank Eck Stadium, and Irish slugged their way to a 14-5 victory, extending their winning streak to 9 games.

The Irish bats stayed hot all game, Spencer Myers hit a homer and drive on four runs, Brooks Coetzee had two hits and 3 RBI, while Zack Prajzner had just one hit but also drove in three.

The Irish used five pitchers on the day, with Jack Findlay, Aidan Tyrell and Radek Birkholz each having clean outings. Jackson Dennies and Liam Simon struggled but the Irish hitters picked them up.

The Irish have yet to lose in the month of April, racking up nine straight wins to run their record to an impressive 21-5. The winning streak goes on the road this weekend as Link Jarrett’s team heads to Durham, North Carolina to face Duke this weekend in ACC conference play.

Notre Dame baseball keeps rolling, sweeps visiting Clemson

The streak is now 8-games!!!

The Irish are streaking again. It’s been a common theme among this Notre Dame 2022 baseball team. With Sunday’s win again Clemson, the Irish have now won their eighth game in a row, their second consecutive ACC series sweep.

It was the bats that carried the Irish on Sunday, scoring nine runs with the big blasts coming from Jared Miller and Ryan Cole. They each hit homers while Carter Putz drove in three and Spencer Myers played two himself.

The trio of pitchers, Will Mercer, Roman Kimball and Alex Rao held the Tiger’s bats down for the majority of the game. Clemson’s Max Wagner tormented Kimball, hitting two home runs on the day but that wasn’t nearly enough as the Irish won 9-3.

The win brings the Irish record to 20-5, and improved their conference record to 8-4. This current streak has brought the Irish back to second place in the Atlantic division, one game behind leader Louisville. Link Jarrett’s team looks to keep the winning streak alive as they welcome in Michigan for their midweek contest on Tuesday at 5:30pm EST.

Notre Dame takes game one vs Clemson, game two start time changed

The steak hits six-games for the Irish who look for seven today

The Irish got off to a great start against ACC foe Clemson, as John Michael Bertrand continued to show why is the ace of the Notre Dame pitching staff. The game start time was changed but not JMB’s performance, for the second straight start not allowing a run. The lefty was magnificent, going 8 and 1/3 innings, striking out eight Tigers and getting the win.

Although Bertrand did allow a run, it was unearned, it was exactly what you wanted to see from your game one starter. Saving the bullpen, Ryan McLinksey pitched just 2/3 of an inning on two pitches, sets up the Irish very well for the remainder of the series.

Offensively, three players had two hits each, Spencer Myers, Jack Brannigan and Brooks Coetzee. Myers and Brannigan along with Nick Juaire each drove in a run.

For the second day in a row, the start time will be adjusted, as Saturday’s contest is now set to begin at 3pm EST at Frank Eck Stadium. The Irish look to keep their six-game winning streak alive as their record is a dazzling 18-5 as they are set to face the Tigers in game two with Austin Temple on the mound.

Notre Dame Baseball keeps rolling, winning steak extends to five games

The streak is not a handful

The Irish have found their groove again and they are really starting to play some great baseball. After enduring a four-game losing streak, which started with a Louisville swept and extended with the one-game series loss to Virginia Tech, Link Jarrett’s team has caught fire once again.

A mid-week win against Northern Illinois got them back into the win column, then a sweep against #5 Florida State in Tallahassee really propelled the Irish again. They kept the good times going today, as they welcomed in Butler and surprising had a battle on their hands. Eventually the Irish overcame the Bulldogs and won 5-2.

Offensively it was two-way star Jack Brannigan, who launched his fourth homer of the year. Spencer Myers, Nick Juaire and Zack Prajzner also added RBI on the day. Although Radek Birkholz struggled on the mound, giving up two runs, his teammates picked him up. Relievers Ryan McLinksey, Jack Findlay, Jackson Dennies and Austin Temple collectively allowed no runs.

The win puts the Irish record at 17-5, with an upcoming series at home against ACC foe Clemson. Notre Dame will look to extend their winning streak to six games Friday night as first pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm EST.

Notre Dame baseball can’t keep late lead, gets swept by Louisville

Things didn’t go the Irish’s way all weekend

The Irish entered the weekend as one of the highest rated teams in the country but host Louisville had something to say about that. The Cardinals took the first two games of the series and Notre Dame was looking to salvage the series finale.

Unfortunately, the Irish lost a late lead and once again fell to the Cardinals on get-away-day, 7-5. The score was tied heading into the top of the seventh and after a Carter Putz single that scored Spencer Myers the Irish took a one-run lead, 5-4. The story of the weekend was the fact that Link Jarrett’s team never gave in but just couldn’t find an answer to quiet Louisville’s bats after taking leads. The Cardinals would the score three runs in the bottom of the eights, to finish off the sweep.

It was a forgettable weekend for the Irish, who have not lost their last three games and have fallen to a 12-4 record. The Irish return to their home diamond on Tuesday as they host Northwestern, before hosting Virginia Tech over the weekend.

It’s almost time to play ball for the Irish

The NCAA baseball season begins for the Irish this weekend and the expectations are sky high. After a run to the Super Regionals last year, Link Jarrett has establish the program as one of the best in the Midwest quickly. In his first full season, the Irish finished first in the ACC’s Atlantic division, racking up a 25-10 conference record, 34-13 overall. Obviously we all remember their run in the NCAA tournament, but the brilliance spanned the whole season. Gone is slugging first baseman Niko Kavadas, but the Irish are still viewed as one of the best teams in the country heading into the 2022 season. Here is a quick primer of what to expect from this seasons squad.

Notre Dame scores again, takes lead back against Mississippi State

A back and forth battle in Starkville

It’s been a back-and-forth battle in the Starkville super regional. The Irish held a 3-1 lead after they scored again in the top of the third. Two errors in the bottom of the frame for Notre Dame helped Mississippi State tie the game up but that didn’t last long.

After Zach Prajzner doubled to lead off the top of the fourth, Spencer Myers drove him in with a single to center to chase the Bulldog’s starting pitcher Will Bednar.

The Irish bat’s continued to stay hot as they have now scored in each of the four frames early in this contest. They now hold a very slim lead over the Bulldogs as they look to take game one of this Super regional matchup.

Notre Dame baseball gets on board first against Mississippi State

Early and often Irish!

The Irish didn’t wait for the game to get settled before putting a run on the board. Back-to-back singles put Notre Dame in great position, but a double-play seemed like the great start could be erased. Carter Putz has something to say about that however.

His RBI single scored Spencer Myers as the Irish struck first in the top of the first. This is important because of Notre Dame’s record when they score first, an impressive 24-3 this year.

Hopefully the history of scoring first holds true as the Irish are just getting this first game of their Super regional matchup against Mississippi State started.
