Notre Dame righty Roman Kimball reportedly transfers to South Carolina

Think the Irish will miss him?

Although Notre Dame is coming off a College World Series appearance, not everyone sees a chance to thrive in South Bend. One of them is right-handed reliever [autotag]Roman Kimball[/autotag], who is transferring to South Carolina according to 247Sports. Kimball just completed his freshman season with the Irish, making 17 appearances out of the bullpen. He had a 5.76 ERA and struck out 32 batters over 25 innings. This summer, he is pitching for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Kimball, who hails from New Hartford, New York, went past one inning eight times with the Irish. His longest outing was four innings in a 5-1 Irish win over Valparaiso on April 19. He nearly equaled that in his lone game with the Anglers to this point, going three innings.

While this will be a tough loss for the Irish’s bullpen, Kimball obviously thought this decision through, so all we can do is wish him well with the Gamecocks.

Notre Dame baseball keeps rolling, sweeps visiting Clemson

The streak is now 8-games!!!

The Irish are streaking again. It’s been a common theme among this Notre Dame 2022 baseball team. With Sunday’s win again Clemson, the Irish have now won their eighth game in a row, their second consecutive ACC series sweep.

It was the bats that carried the Irish on Sunday, scoring nine runs with the big blasts coming from Jared Miller and Ryan Cole. They each hit homers while Carter Putz drove in three and Spencer Myers played two himself.

The trio of pitchers, Will Mercer, Roman Kimball and Alex Rao held the Tiger’s bats down for the majority of the game. Clemson’s Max Wagner tormented Kimball, hitting two home runs on the day but that wasn’t nearly enough as the Irish won 9-3.

The win brings the Irish record to 20-5, and improved their conference record to 8-4. This current streak has brought the Irish back to second place in the Atlantic division, one game behind leader Louisville. Link Jarrett’s team looks to keep the winning streak alive as they welcome in Michigan for their midweek contest on Tuesday at 5:30pm EST.

The streak is over, Notre Dame Baseball gets back in win column

That was a long two weeks

It has been a very difficult two weeks for the Irish baseball team. First getting swept at Louisville, having their midweek game against Northwestern postponed, then losing the series opener to Virginia Tech and having the weather cancel the remainder of the series. Notre Dame last won a game on March 15th and two weeks from that date, their four-game losing streak is finally over.

The bats were hot and the pitching was very solid, as the Irish defeated Northern Illinois, 11-2 at Frank Eck Stadium. It must have been a huge weight off the shoulders of the Irish, finally getting a chance to celebrate a win again.

Although starter Liam Simon only went 2 and 2/3 innings, the did enough to set the tone for the pitching staff. He allowed the only runs of the game, one unearned, as the remaining pitchers (Roman Kimball, Jack Findlay, Radek Birkholz and Jackson Dennies) each saw their outings end without giving up a run.

Offensively it was Jared Miller and Zach Prajzner leading the charge, both driving in two runs each with Prajzner topping the team with three hits on the day. The Irish will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Tallahassee to face off against Florida State in a three-game set that begins Friday night.
