The Tigers are up nine spots to No. 23 this week.
LSU certainly delivered a flawed performance on Saturday against Auburn, but a three-score comeback against an SEC West team on the road is impressive no matter how you slice it.
That performance vaulted LSU to the No. 25 spot in the AP Poll and made the Tigers the second-highest vote-getter among unranked teams in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. However, they are even higher in the latest college football re-rank from USA TODAY Sports, which power ranks all 131 FBS teams.
LSU is up nine spots this week to No. 23, sitting ahead of nearby conference foes like Mississippi State (No. 24), Arkansas (No. 25), Florida (No. 35) and Texas A&M (No. 39). Alabama (No. 1), Georgia (No. 2) and Tennessee (No. 8) are in the top 10, while Ole Miss (No. 12) and Kentucky (No. 16) sit within the top 20.
The Tigers could see quite a surge in these rankings (and in the polls) if they can pull off what would be a marquee win against an undefeated, top-10 opponent in the Vols.

Checking in on the latest re-rank to find out where Auburn and the SEC landed.
The Week 4 USA TODAY Sports re-rank of all 131 teams in FBS was released on Monday morning. Some good news for War Eagle while other teams didn’t do as well.
In this week’s re-rank the Auburn Tigers were the biggest winners as they moved up 15 spots to No. 64. Their opponents on Saturday, the Missouri Tigers, fell 15 spots and are now dead last in the SEC.
Despite that fall, the biggest losers weren’t Missouri but instead, the Florida Gators dropped 21 spots to No. 38 after their loss to the Tennessee Vols. As far as the top 10, there wasn’t much movement. The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs remained at No. 1 and No. 2 after their wins on Saturday. Kentucky also stayed put with their win over Northern Illinois. The Vols joined the top 10 with the win over Florida, jumping up 13 spots.
The Texas A&M Aggies check in at No. 16, one spot ahead of Arkansas as they defeated the Razorbacks on Saturday. On Saturday night the LSU Tigers also took care of business with a 38-0 victory over New Mexico, that effort moved them up a few spots.
The future SEC schools did not fare so well as both the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners fell to unranked teams on Saturday. Texas Tech defeated Texas 37-34 in overtime and Kansas State defeated Oklahoma 41-34 in Norman.

The Tigers are up 21 spots after the win over Mississippi State.
In one of the week’s most impressive performances, LSU reversed its misfortunes from its first outing against an FBS team.
The Tigers lost to Florida State in Week 1, but they looked much improved across the board in Saturday night’s win over Mississippi State to kick off SEC play. Coach Brian Kelly is now 1-0 in conference games as the head coach in Baton Rouge.
The offense had a sluggish start but picked things up in the second half, running the ball down the Bulldogs’ throats to seal the game in a 21-point fourth quarter. Defensively, LSU was outstanding against the high-powered air-raid offense, giving up just three second-half points.
As a result of the win, the Tigers are one of the biggest movers in this week’s re-rank of all 131 FBS teams from USA TODAY Sports. They’re up 21 spots all the way to No. 35, and if they can win the next two games against New Mexico and Auburn, they should rise even higher.
Kelly inherited a difficult roster situation at LSU, and it’s clear the new-look squad needed some time to gel together. Saturday was a much more complete performance, and Tigers fans will hope that is a sign that this program is heading in the right direction.
