Auburn cracks top-60 of USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank following win at Vanderbilt

Albeit small steps, the Tigers are making positive strides in this week’s rankings by USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg.

Auburn continues to make positive strives after picking up its second consecutive win.

In this week’s USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank, Paul Myerberg has given the Tigers a boost to No. 59, which cracks the top 60 and is a three-spot increase from last week’s rankings. Auburn is one spot below Georgia Tech, who climbed eight places after blowing out Virginia last Saturday. Auburn is also one spot above Iowa State, which dropped three places after sustaining a 28-21 defeat at home to Kansas.

Auburn’s next opponent, Arkansas, moves up three places to No. 89 after upsetting Florida in the Swamp, the program’s first win in Gainesville. Based on Myerberg’s latest rankings, the Tigers should have no issue with Arkansas this weekend and should see a boost in next week’s rankings.

Outside of Arkansas, the Tigers’ final two opponents are ranked ahead of them. New Mexico State earned bowl eligibility by defeating Middle Tennessee State last Saturday and was awarded a 13-spot bump to No. 55. Alabama jumped one place to No. 8 after defeating LSU in Tuscaloosa.

Despite loss, Auburn takes giant step forward in USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank

Are things finally starting to come together for Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers?

Are things starting to finally come together for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Auburn Tigers?

The Tigers put a scare into No. 1 Georgia over the weekend. Auburn stayed close with the Bulldogs until the 2:52 mark in the 4th quarter when tight end Brock Bowers hauled in a 40-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck to clinch a 27-20 victory for the two-time defending College Football Playoff national champions.

Although a loss, Auburn fans found many positives surrounding the game. National writers are also taking notice of the Tigers’ efforts, such as Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports.

In the latest college football re-rank, Myerberg placed Auburn at the No. 49 slot following the loss to Georgia, which is a nine-spot jump from week four’s rankings. The Tigers are now in the same company as Colorado, who checks in at No. 49, and TCU, who is one spot behind Auburn at No. 50.

The scare that Auburn put into Georgia has forced the Bulldogs to drop to No. 2 in this week’s rankings. The Michigan Wolverines are now the top team after a 45-7 drubbing of Nebraska.

Auburn’s next opponent, LSU, took a massive hit following their 55-49 loss to Ole Miss. The Tigers are No. 37 this week, which is a 24-spot fall from week five’s rankings. The Rebels jumped two places to No. 24 following the shootout win.

West Virginia and South Florida were the biggest movers this week, earning a 23 and 22 spot increase respectively. LSU’s 24-spot dip was the largest drop of the week.

LSU free-falling in USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank after loss to Ole Miss

The Tigers dropped 24 spots in USA TODAY Sports’ college football rankings this week.

LSU entered Saturday as a top-15 team in the USA TODAY Sports college football rankings, but in the updated re-rank of all 133 FBS teams following a disappointing 55-49 loss to Ole Miss, the Tigers are free-falling.

Coach Brian Kelly’s team dropped a stunning 24 spots, falling out of the top 25 all the way down to No. 37 in the rankings after Week 5. LSU still possesses one of the nation’s top offenses, but the defense is a major cause for concern, especially heading into what could be a tough matchup on the road against another top SEC offense in Missouri.

Sitting at 3-2 on the year but with just one loss in SEC play, the Tigers’ hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff are likely over, but they could still contend in the SEC West.

To do that, Saturday’s game against Mizzou in Week 6 feels like a must-win.

Auburn climbs in USA TODAY Sports re-rank following win over Samford

The Tigers continue to rise while others in the SEC drop in this week’s ranking by USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg.

Auburn is not where they want to be, but they are making great strides to reach its full potential.

Following a convincing win over Samford last Saturday, the Auburn Tigers have jumped to No. 52 in the latest USA TODAY Sports re-rank, which is an eight-spot increase from last week’s list.

An increase is a good sign for Auburn, as the SEC took a hit in this week’s rankings by Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports. There are five SEC teams within the top 25 this week, with a regular of the top 25 getting kicked out.

The Alabama Crimson Tide‘s 17-3 win over USF was an ugly one. Because of that, and the road ahead, Myerberg placed Alabama at No. 28 this week, which is a 14-spot drop from week two. Myerberg predicts a tough road ahead for the Crimson Tide.

It’s becoming apparent that this might not be just a down year for Alabama relative to the standard set across the past 15 seasons. This could be a disaster of a season, period. After the Rebels, the Tide face No. 48 Mississippi State, No. 30 Texas A&M, No. 43 Arkansas, No. 22 Tennessee, No. 14 LSU and No. 25 Kentucky. If this group wasn’t named Alabama, how many games would you pick them to win out of that bunch?

Georgia kicks off the rankings at No. 1, followed by LSU at No. 14, Ole Miss at No. 17, Tennessee at No. 22, and Kentucky at No. 25. Auburn’s next opponent, Texas A&M, checks in at No. 30, advancing one spot after defeating ULM last Saturday at Kyle Field.

Where does LSU land on USA TODAY Sports’ final college football re-rank?

The Tigers are ranked in the top 20 after closing the year with a blowout win in the Citrus Bowl.

The first season of the [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] era is officially in the books as the LSU Tigers have finished the 2022 season 10-4 with a huge 63-7 win over the Purdue Boilermakers in the Cheez-it Citrus Bowl.

So where does that land the Tigers on the USA TODAY Sports end-of-the-year re-rank? Out of all 131 teams in Division I football, LSU finished in the top 25 as they come in at No. 18. LSU is one of five SEC teams in the top 25 on this list, joining Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi State.

South Carolina finished just outside the top 25 as they finished as the No. 26 team.

With back-to-back top-ten recruiting classes, Kelly has LSU trending in the right direction. It won’t be long before Oklahoma and Texas join the SEC and make the best conference in college football even better.

LSU a fast riser in USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank after Week 8

The Tigers rose 10 spots to No. 16 this week.

The Tigers have momentum on their side after an absolutely monumental win on Saturday against the previously No. 7-ranked Ole Miss Rebels.

With the win, LSU jumped into both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25, landing in the top 20 of both polls. In the latest college football re-rank from USA TODAY Sports, the Tigers rank even higher.

They’re up 10 spots all the way to No. 16 this week, one spot ahead of Utah and one behind Penn State. The Rebels, meanwhile, dropped six spots to No. 14.

LSU has a bye this weekend before what will likely prove to be the most important game of the season against Alabama. The two teams currently share a lead in the SEC West, and the Week 10 contest on Nov. 5 could ultimately decide the division.
