ULM vs Nicholls Game Preview

Why Nicholls Will Win

The Colonels didn’t show it off against South Alabama, but they have the offense to give ULM all sorts of problems.

The offense got stuffed last week in the 48-7 loss, but that was an anomaly. Nicholls knows how to get the chains moving, the offensive front is going to be much, much better this year at keeping defenses out of the backfield, and the O will be closer to 500 yards per game this year than the 165 of last week.

ULM doesn’t have the defense to hold up for 60 minutes if the Nicholls passing attack gets going.

Or …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why ULM Will Win

Is that going to be Nicholls this year?

There were some key losses and this isn’t quite the same team as the one that exploded so much last year.

ULM has a good quarterback in Chandler Rogers to give the Colonels problems. the receivers are there to stretch the field, and on the other side, the defensive front will show a whole lot more after having problems with Texas to start the season.

For all the problems in the 52-10 loss, ULM had the ball for well over 35 minutes.

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Nicholls will play better than it did last week, ULM will play better than it did last week, and the two will combine to play an interesting game.

ULM will have to work to put this away. It’ll get up, and it’ll maintain the lead, but it’ll need a few late scoring drives to finally get out alive. It’s going to be work to get the scoring punch needed to relax.

Texas vs ULM Game Preview

Why ULM Will Win

This is a relatively deep team under head coach Terry Bowden.

QB Chandler Rogers can do a little of everything, Boogie Knight and the receivers are strong, and there’s just enough of a defensive front 3/4 to hold up at times.

This is a veteran Warhawk group that isn’t going to beat itself with a slew of penalties – ULM led the nation in fewest flags – and turnovers.

Texas will be trying to make big things happen on every play – the pressure is on to be great right away. ULM has to somehow force mistakes and capitalize on everything – takeaways were a plus last season – and …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Texas Will Win

Here comes the Longhorn offense. It should be able to put this away early with a few good drives.

The ULM secondary should be an early concern, the offense doesn’t have the parts to keep up in any sort of a shootout, and the O line is about to have a bad day.

The offense is going to work, but new defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski should have his bunch breathing fire.

All of the attention will be on QB Quinn Ewers, RB Bijan Robinson, and all of the other parts, but this game is about the defensive side. Can the Longhorns stop the run? Can the pass rush be generated from somewhere?

At least for this week, yes and yes.

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

Texas will do whatever it wants.

ULM will come up with a few scoring drives, but the Longhorns will load up fast and won’t let up. At least for this week, Texas will be “back” to what the media and fans think it could be.

The Texas depth will get a chance to stretch its legs midway through the third quarter.

Sun Belt Preseason Predictions For Every Game: Preview 2022

Sun Belt predictions for every team and every game in the 2022 college football season

The Sun Belt just got a whole lot more interesting with the addition of Marshall, Old Dominion, and Southern Miss from Conference USA – and getting them a year before it seemed possible – and also brought in FCS powerhouse James Madison to a be a part of the fun.

The divisions are staying for now, but the great additions will make it far, far tougher for Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, and Louisiana to keep on dominating – even though they might not take that big a step back, if any.

While it might seem a bit cut-and-dry with the way the league is set up, watch out for some potentially big moves from some teams that struggled. The problem will be the schedules for Troy, South Alabama, and Arkansas State. Georgia State and Old Dominion programs that got to bowl games last season will have to fight, too.

The Sun Belt is stronger than ever and the season should be the best yet. The Sun Belt predictions for 2022 are …

ULM Warhawks Preview 2022

There was a moment.

No one was expecting anything coming off an 0-10 season and without a winning season since 2012, but all of a sudden ULM looked like it was on track to go bowling in Terry Bowden’s first year.

The Warhawks shocked Liberty and beat South Alabama for a 4-3 start, had two winnable games in the last five, and then …

4-8.

But to be fair, four of those last five were on the road and three of those were against LSU, Louisiana, and Appalachian State. The other two games – at Texas State and against Arkansas State – were close.

Now there are just enough veterans to make a push for those six wins, even if it’s going to take something miraculous against an even tougher schedule to make that happen.

ULM Warhawks Preview 2022: Offense

There were too many problems on third downs, the downfield passing attack wasn’t there, and the offensive line was a turnstile. However, the offense had a few decent moments and there’s just enough experience back to be better. However …

The offensive line has the be a LOT better, and it has to do it without left tackle Willie Tyler off to Rutgers. Two starters are back and there’s a little help from the transfer portal with Zarian McGill an important get at center.

The running game didn’t have any room to move, but the two main backs return. Andrew Henry led the team with 482 yards and four scores, and Malik Jackson ran for 451 yards and added more burst. Jackson, though, will likely work mostly at receiver after flirting with the transfer portal.

This should be Chandler Rogers’ show to run – he likely won’t be splitting time like he did last year. The sophomore was third on the team in rushing and led the was with 1,311 passing yards with nine touchdowns and three picks.

The delightfully-named Boogie Knight earned All-Sun Belt status as the team’s leading receiver, but he’s not alone with most of the top targets back for Rogers to spread it around. That includes TE Zach Rasmussen – three of his catches went for touchdowns.

ULM Warhawks Preview 2022: Defense

The offense struggled, and the defense didn’t do a whole lot to help. There wasn’t enough push into the backfield, and the pass defense was among the worst in the country, but the group did a decent job of taking the ball away and wasn’t totally awful against the run.

The linebacking corps in the 4-2-5 has a thumper in Zack Woodard. If he doesn’t lead the team in tackles, he’ll be close, Quae Drake adds some experience and hitting ability on the outside, and the hope is for Harding transfer Carl Glass to work in a hybrid role like another safety on the field.

The front four might be one of the teams earlier strengths. There’s good size, and what the depth lacks in experience it makes up for in bulk. Top end Ty Shelby is done. but the tackle combination of Caleb Thomas and Quincy Ledet should be able to hold up.

The secondary struggled, so losing corner Josh Newton to TCU and S Nick Roberts to SMU isn’t that massive. However, this group needs to find playmakers in a big hurry. It’s not a total do-over, but it’s not far off around third-leading tackler Jabari Johnson.

Alabama Football: Four kickoff times announced for 2022 campaign

Alabama announces four kickoff times for the upcoming 2022 season.

As today officially marks 100 days until the start of the Crimson Tide’s 2022 campaign, the buzz is beginning to pick up. Today, Alabama announced their kickoff times for the first three games of the season as well as a late November game.

The Tide will open the season against the Utah State Aggies on Sept. 3. The season will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny stadium.

The highly anticipated match up with the Texas Longhorns in week two will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. CDT Both Texas and Alabama fans are frustrated with FOX Sports for not allotting this the primetime slot.

Following the Longhorns, Alabama will host Louisiana Monroe on Sept. 17 at 3:00 p.m. CDT in what will be a blistering midday game in Tuscaloosa. Anyone and everyone who has attended an Alabama football game in September knows the heat is no joke.

Finally, the Nov. 19 matchup with Austin Peay will be an 11 a.m. CDT kickoff as well.

The Sun Belt just got a whole lot bigger, cooler, and more interesting with a shocking expansion that should take the conference up another level.

FCS powerhouse James Madison gets to join in right away, and Marshall, Old Dominion, and Southern Miss were able to leave Conference USA and get in for the 2022 football season.

Here’s the problem – several Sun Belt programs that made strides last year are going to have tougher schedules to deal with. Several teams should be better, but might not have the results to show it.

The rankings are based on how good the teams should be and not the final projected records. Keeping in mind that this all could/might/will change when we make the final calls in August …

The 2021 Season: Ranking LSU’s wins from worst to first

How would you rank each of the LSU Tigers wins in 2021?

The LSU Tigers had a somewhat forgettable season in 2021. They finished 6-7 as they secured their first losing season since 1999. Each win was under then-head coach Ed Orgeron as he concluded a two-year run as head coach at 11-11. He won 15 games as the head coach in 2019 as they secured the CFP national championship.

Despite the disappointing year for the Bayou Bengals, there were some memorable moments. The wheels came off the tracks at times but they were still able to find a way to finish out 2021 in the same manner as the 2020 campaign, needing two wins to reach the .500 mark on the season.

The defense got better as the year progressed but the offense seemed to lose momentum after losing star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to an injury. Looking back at the year that was in 2021, we rank the wins from worst to first.

Updated Football Power Index: LSU finds a way to get bowl eligible?

The final five games will decide bowl eligibility, can the Tigers win two more games?

It is really hard to get a handle on what to expect from the LSU Tigers after watching this team for seven games. They are 4-3 (2-2) after an improbable victory over the Florida Gators, a team no one thought would lose that game.

The Tigers looked like a team that gave everything to save the job of their head coach. Ed Orgeron’s group came out and outdueled a pair of Florida quarterbacks that threw four interceptions in the game.

Ty Davis-Price and the offensive line have been under heavy criticism for most of the season. After back-to-back 140+ yard performances from the junior running back, has the offense figured out how to run the ball once again?

Georgia State vs ULM Game Preview

Why Georgia State Will Win

It might have been a rough 1-4 start for the Panthers, but the win over Charlotte was solid and the four losses were all more than acceptable vs. Army, North Carolina, Auburn, and Appalachian State.

They have the playmakers on offense to finally breakout, and they have the experience on the other side to stuff a ULM offense that’s the worst in the nation at converting on third downs.

ULM is also last in the nation in total offense – it has yet to come up with 300 yards in any game, but …

Week 6 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why ULM Will Win

The Warhawks are finding ways to be competitive.

Forget the losses to Kentucky and Coastal Carolina – those are two elite teams there were no-chance games for ULM. The team is great when it comes to turnover margin, the run defense has been able to hold up, and it’s No. 1in the nation in fewest penalties.

Terry Bowden is coaching the heck out of this team.

Georgia State has a turnover margin issue – ULM has to be a +2 to be in this.

Week 6 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Georgia State has to keep the mistakes to a minimum. It turned it over multiple times in three of the five games and lost all three.

ULM won’t have enough offense, though, to keep up. Again, this is one of the few games so far that’s in the Georgia State wheelhouse, and it’ll take advantage with a solid day offensively and a big performance from the defensive front.
