Rice vs McNeese Game Preview

Why McNeese Will Win

The Cowboys might have lost to Montana State 40-17, but they’re going to bring the pass rush, they’re not going to make a slew of mistakes, and they’re getting a Rice team that got beaten up in a 66-14 loss to USC.

McNeese didn’t quite play like itself against the Bobcats with two turnovers, too many struggles on third downs, and nothing happening against the run. As the season goes on, the run D will be solid, and …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why Rice Will Win

Rice played USC. That’s not going to be an outlier against that team.

The Owls were quickly outclassed, three pick-sixes were killers, and it got ugly.

There’s more of an offense than the one that showed up in LA, and it’s about to show why against a Cowboy D that didn’t do anything against Montana State. The ground game might sputter a little bit – McNeese really will be okay against the run this year – but the secondary will give up too many yards.

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Rice has the receiving corps to give McNeese problems right away, and then the ball control will kick in.

It’s not exactly going to be the reverse of the USC game, but Rice will get to open it up a little bit late.

The 2021 Season: Ranking LSU’s wins from worst to first

How would you rank each of the LSU Tigers wins in 2021?

The LSU Tigers had a somewhat forgettable season in 2021. They finished 6-7 as they secured their first losing season since 1999. Each win was under then-head coach Ed Orgeron as he concluded a two-year run as head coach at 11-11. He won 15 games as the head coach in 2019 as they secured the CFP national championship.

Despite the disappointing year for the Bayou Bengals, there were some memorable moments. The wheels came off the tracks at times but they were still able to find a way to finish out 2021 in the same manner as the 2020 campaign, needing two wins to reach the .500 mark on the season.

The defense got better as the year progressed but the offense seemed to lose momentum after losing star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to an injury. Looking back at the year that was in 2021, we rank the wins from worst to first.

Everything we know following Oregon’s 109-38 rout of McNeese

The Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team smashed McNeese 109-38 to earn their third straight win.

If there was a team in the country that needed this type of confidence boost, it was Oregon.

The Ducks women’s basketball team opened the game on a 27-0 run and then went on to cruise past the McNeese Cowgirls 109-38.

This season has been a struggle for the Ducks, who have never been completely healthy. But Oregon has won three straight games to improve its record to 6-3 overall.

Forward Sydney Parrish scored 15 of her 21 points in the first quarter as she was a major factor in that initial run that put the game away early. Oregon went into the halftime break with a 54-14 lead.

The Ducks shot 57 percent in the first half on 21-of-37 from the field. For the game, Oregon wound up shooting 60.5 percent for the game (46-of-76).

Everything we know following the Ducks 68-59 win over Long Beach State

It was a grind, but the Ducks women’s basketball team came away with a nice 68-59 win over previously undefeated Long Beach State.

Missing three key players would be hard on any basketball team and the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team is playing as hard as they can until they can get completely healthy.

But the games still need to be played and the Ducks were able to grind out a 68-59 victory over Long Beach State. Oregon improved to 5-3 overall, while the 49ers lost their first game of the season and fell to 7-1.

Oregon will be a very different team when point guard Te-Hina Paopao, guard Endiya Rogers, and forward Nyara Sabally return. Until then, every game is going to be a 40-minute battle.

With the victory, the Ducks have won two straight with their win over Portland last week. Oregon will just have less than 48 hours before its next game as the Ducks will host McNeese Dec. 13.

LSU announces Frank Wilson returns to the Tigers as associate head coach

Frank Wilson returns to LSU.

In a stunning turn of events, the LSU Tigers announced that Frank Wilson will return to the staff as the associate head coach. Wilson has spent the last two seasons with McNeese, prior to that he was the head coach of UTSA from 2016-19.

It was announced this morning that Wilson would be stepping down from his post at McNeese. It was speculated that it could mean a return to the Tigers. He was the associate head coach, recruiting coordinator, and running back coach for LSU from 2010-15 under Les Miles.

This will be a move that is well received by many current and former players. Wilson is very well respected in the state of Louisiana and a huge addition for Brian Kelly.

Per the LSU Press Release:

The New Orleans native and two-time national recruiter of the year has been tabbed as associate head coach for the Tigers, head coach Brian Kelly announced on Tuesday.

“Frank Wilson has a proven track record of identifying, recruiting, and developing elite student-athletes everywhere he has been,” Kelly said. “No one knows the recruiting landscape in Louisiana better than Frank, and his experience and character will be tremendous resources for our staff and student-athletes. His impact on our staff at LSU will be immediate and immense. We are thrilled he is returning home to ensure that we continue to sign the best student-athletes in Louisiana and throughout the country.”

Wilson previously spent six years on the LSU coaching staff, serving as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. During that time, Wilson helped LSU lure some of the nation’s top players to Baton Rouge, as the Tigers had four Top 10 recruiting classes, including the No. 2 class in 2014 and the No. 5 class in 2015.

Wilson helped LSU to six bowl appearances, including the 2012 BCS National Championship game, the 2011 SEC Championship, and an overall mark of 61-17.

“I will forever be grateful to the coaches, staff, and student-athletes I have been fortunate to work with at McNeese State, and I will always remember the lessons I have learned in my six seasons as a head coach. But the opportunity to return home to LSU and join Coach Kelly’s staff was one my family and I simply could not pass up. I could not be more excited to return to Baton Rouge and do whatever I can to help the Tigers consistently compete for and win championships.” – Frank Wilson.

LSU need an added emphasis on the offensive line and the run game

During his weekly press conference, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron discussed the offensive line and the running game.

If there were two huge storylines from the UCLA-LSU game on Saturday, it was in the trenches on both sides of the ball and the running game. The Tigers got no push upfront and it made everything on the offensive side of the ball that much more difficult. Head coach Ed Orgeron addressed these issues in his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Orgeron opened up the press conference discussing the players that will be out for this upcoming game.

Being without the starting left and right tackles could be huge for the LSU Tigers. While they will be expected to win this game against McNeese that is troublesome for an offensive line that struggled in the opener.

While they are still intact in the middle of the line, group play is so important with continuity. Wire was rotating with Charles Turner, who also saw time at right tackle when Deculus went down with an injury. Ali Gaye will also be missed but the team has BJ Ojulari and Andre Anthony that can get to the quarterback.

On the topic of the team being predictable, Orgeron admitted they were outschemed by the UCLA staff. “There were a lot of things we could have eliminated as coaches and we didn’t do it.” He has been adamant since the loss on Saturday that he takes the blame for it.

On the run game, Orgeron discussed an emphasis at the beginning of the second half, “we felt like we had to come out and run the football. We found a couple of cracks in their defense. I felt our guys made a couple of adjustments at halftime that worked. Still, it was nowhere near the variety of runs, nowhere near the style of runs in which we need to run at LSU.”

The run game managed to accumulate just 32 yards rushing between Josh Williams and Tyrion Davis-Price. The loss of John Emery Jr before the game hurt them, but the offensive line wasn’t getting any push upfront for the backs to find creases. Orgeron knows that the run game is key for the LSU offense, and they need better than what they showed on Saturday.

No updates have been made available on the availability of Emery. The hope is that Armoni Goodwin will be available for the game Saturday along with Williams behind Davis-Price.

Former LSU TE Jamal Pettigrew finds FCS transfer destination

Pettigrew won’t be going too far from where he began his college career.

Former LSU tight end Jamal Pettigrew has found a new place to finish out his college career — and it’s not too far from where he started it.

On Saturday, it was announced that Pettigrew had chosen to transfer to McNeese State to join the Cowboys after entering the portal last week.

The senior Pettigrew will be immediately eligible to play since he’s transferring to the FCS level.

Pettigrew doesn’t have a tremendous amount to show on the stats sheet, reeling in one catch for the Tigers for  -1 yards en route to the national championship. In 2017, he had one reception for 18 yards.

The loss of Pettigrew comes shortly after Stephen Sullivan and Thaddeus Moss to the 2020 NFL Draft.
