2023 Heisman Trophy Odds Tracker Week 12: Bo Nix is the favorite, Jalen Milroe is the dark horse

Bo Nix may be the new Heisman Trophy favorite but he’s not in the clear yet

Anyone who could’ve guessed that Bo Nix would end up the Heisman Trophy favorite late in the 2023 season while Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe mounts a spoiler campaign deserves their own award.

The whole situation would be quite comical if it weren’t so exciting, really.

For years while he was at Auburn, and even early in his Oregon days, Nix assumed the dark horse moniker to a meme-worthy extent while Alabama’s Bryce Young and DeVonta Smith ran away with the trophy. So now that Nix is mounting the best season of his career while becoming the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman in 2024, guess who all the sudden has a pretty straightforward path to a seat in New York?

Yep. Milroe.

Some narratives write themselves.

Let’s dig into it while we count down the top 10 favorites to capture the Heisman heading into Week 12.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 9 Ole Miss

Corso didn’t have to do Uga like that

While most of the college football world was busy focusing on the madness with Michigan at Penn State on Saturday, there were plenty of other intriguing storylines across the sport.

Florida State-Miami, Washington-Utah and Missouri-Tennessee are some of the big games in Week 11. And of course there’s Ole Miss at Georgia.

That’s where ESPN’s College GameDay found itself on a rainy Saturday morning and where Lee Corso came face to face with Uga XI.

Yet no matter how much Corso insulted the sweet puppy’s looks, the coach couldn’t help but fall in love with the Bulldogs against Mississippi in the SEC clash.

We don’t care what Corso says, that’s a good boy right there.

Top-5 most watchable college football games of Week 11

We’ve compiled our list of the top-5 most watchable games of Week 11, along with where you can watch them.

The College Football Playoff race is becoming clearer as we enter the final weeks of the regular season, and it’s becoming increasingly likely that we could find ourselves in a situation with more undefeated or one-loss conference champions than there are playoff spots. That means that the remaining contenders have no margin of error from here on out. Every loss could be a knockout blow to a team’s playoff, hopes and that means high-pressure situations week in and week out.

To help you get a handle on which games will have the biggest impact on this dramatic playoff race, as well as which games are worth your time even if they have no impact on the playoffs, we’ve compiled our list of the top-5 most watchable games of Week 11, along with where you can watch them.

College Football Playoff watch: Is an SEC-less top 4 really a possibility?

A College Football Playoff without an SEC team would be unprecedented, but there’s a potential path for it to happen.

Anything is possible in college football, and everyone from diehard fans to casuals knows that. So yes, a College Football Playoff without the SEC being represented is possible, but exactly how likely is it?

Well, after Week 7’s games, the four teams with the best chances to make the College Football Playoff do not include an SEC representative. Like last week, Oklahoma still has the strongest chance to make the playoff, according to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor algorithm.

Going into Week 8, the Sooners have a 70.1 percent chance to make the playoff, which is just a one percent dip from last week, followed by Ohio State, Florida State and Washington with the latter two being new to the top four on this list. The first SEC team, Georgia, dropped from the third-best chance to seventh-best since last week.

The Playoff Predictor utilizes an algorithm that factors in the same considerations as the selection committee, such as strength of record, number of losses and conference championships (or independent status), along with the Football Power Index.

Here’s a look at the top teams with the best chances to make the College Football Playoff, along with their chances of advancing to the title game and winning it all, per ESPN’s Playoff Predictor, as of Wednesday.

Alabama’s 2023 schedule ranks among top 25 most difficult

All seven SEC West teams ranked in the Top 25 hardest CFB schedules

Competing in the SEC is a daunting task every single year, especially with some of the high-level coaches in the conference. Whether it be Brian Kelly, Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, or Jimbo Fisher, no week is a guaranteed victory. The conference has ascended to new heights since the inception of the College Football Playoffs, with six of the nine championships belonging to the SEC.

The Georgia Bulldogs have gone back-to-back and are one title away from officially being a dynasty, but the Crimson Tide are still the big dogs in the yard. In the 2022 national championship game, it appeared as if the Tide were set to win their seventh ring under legendary head coach Nick Saban. Unfortunately, John Metchie missed the game due to an injury and Jameson Williams tore his ACL on a non-contact play in the first half, essentially depleting the Tide receiving unit and leading the Bulldogs to their first ring since 1980.

For the Alabama faithful, it is imperative that the Tide get back to the top of the mountain in 2023 despite some major changes in the program including both coordinators. The Tide missed out on the playoffs last season, and the road to get back to them isn’t much easier this season with On3 ranking Alabama’s schedule as the 18th toughest in the country. In fact, all seven teams from the SEC West and 12 of the 14 in the conference make the list. The only two who don’t are Georgia and Vanderbilt.

Bowl Projections: Is Texas back in the New Years Six hunt?

College Wire Regional Editor breaks down his CFP and NY6 matchup projections through Week 10.

There are just three weeks left in the regular season before we gear up for championship weekend and selection Sunday.

We have seen some separation among the contenders and pretenders in the College Football Playoffs seeding but we still have plenty left to decide. The Georgia Bulldogs took firm control of the SEC East on Saturday with their win.

With the loss by the Clemson Tigers, it has opened the door for the Big 12 and Pac-12 to climb into the conversation. The Big 12 has the edge with an undefeated team leading the way.

In the history of the CFP, only the SEC has produced two playoff teams in a single season, they did it twice. Could Ohio State and Michigan give the Big Ten that honor in 2022?

We check in on the New Years Six and the College Football Playoffs with this week’s projections.

How would the 12-team playoff field look with the initial rankings released on Tuesday?

On Tuesday evening the initial College Football Playoff rankings were revealed. The Alabama Crimson Tide is currently on the outside looking in at No. 6 behind the Michigan Wolverines at No. 5.

  1. Tennessee Volunteers
  2. Ohio State Buckeyes
  3. Clemson Tigers
  4. TCU Horned Frogs
  5. Georgia Bulldogs
  6. Michigan Wolverines
  7. Alabama Crimson Tide
  8. Oregon Ducks
  9. USC Trojans
  10. LSU Tigers
  11. Ole Miss Rebels
  12. Tulane Green Wave

How would those matchups look?

Jameson Williams to start 2022 season on NFI list

Jameson Williams starts 2022 season on NFI list, Lions hopeful for November return

Former Alabama wide receiver [autotag]Jameson Williams[/autotag] suffered a gruesome ACL tear in the national title game when the Crimson Tide came up just short against the Georgia Bulldogs. The speedy receiver is working through the injury, however, he will start the 2022 season on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

Williams was drafted by the Detroit Lions at No. 12 overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Lions expect Williams to make his debut in November if all goes according to plan, but his services would be appreciated as soon as possible. Williams has game-changing speed and will be a massive addition to a Lions offense in much need of some juice.

When the time comes, Williams will make his presence known.
