Former LSU linebacker Christian Brathwaite finds new home in the transfer portal

Christian Brathwaite is heading to Houston after one season at LSU.

A redshirt freshman linebacker from LSU has announced his new destination after entering the transfer portal. [autotag]Christian Brathwaite[/autotag] will be continuing his college football career at Houston.

Brathwaite is a 6-foot-1, 218-pound linebacker who was a former four-star recruit out of Cypress, Texas. Last season, Brathwaite played in five games for the Tigers and made three tackles. Two of them came against Auburn and one came against Missouri.

Now that he is heading to Houston, he is headed back closer to home.

The Tigers have a new defensive coordinator in Blake Baker and they still have a very talented linebacker room. [autotag]Harold Perkins Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Greg Penn III[/autotag], West and Whit Weeks, [autotag]Davhon Keys[/autotag], [autotag]Matt Jayne[/autotag], [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag], and [autotag]Xavier Atkins[/autotag] make up a solid linebacker room that can get the job done on any given Saturday.

LSU signs one of the top 10 linebackers for 2024 according to On3

One of the best linebackers in Louisiana, Tylen Singleton, signed with LSU.

On3 has released a list of the top 10 linebackers in the 2024 recruiting class and the schools that they signed to. LSU signed one of those players.

One of the best linebackers in Louisiana, [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag], signed with LSU and is the No. 10 player on On3’s list. Singleton, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound, four-star linebacker from Many, Louisiana, played his senior season for Many High School. He helped lead the Many Tigers to the state quarterfinals in Louisiana’s Division III Non-Select playoffs.

Singleton was ranked as high as the No. 9 linebacker in his class by Rivals and he was ranked as a top-five player from Louisiana on 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals.

He will come to LSU with a chance to shine beside fellow linebackers like [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag] and [autotag]Whit Weeks[/autotag]. The Tigers boast a really strong linebacking core that does a great job in coverage and at rushing the passer when they need to.

On3 projects Texas A&M to flip LSU linebacker commit

Xavier Atkins was expected to attend Bayou Splash, but he opted to head to College Station, instead.

The Tigers have quite a bit of momentum on the recruiting trail right now, but they may be on the verge of losing a commitment.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine now projects that four-star linebacker commit [autotag]Xavier Atkins[/autotag] will flip to Texas A&M with that prediction holding at 82.6% confidence.

Atkins was expected to be one of the visitors for the busy Bayou Splash recruiting event this weekend, but he ultimately opted to attend a pool party in College Station instead. Following that decision, LSU insiders Shea Dixon and Billy Embody issued flip predictions, seemingly signaling an incoming decision.

If Atkins does choose to flip to the Aggies, it’s a loss the Tigers could handle. He ranks inside the top 300 nationally according to On3, but LSU has a good linebacker class headlined by top-250 players in [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Kolaj Cobbins[/autotag].

LSU lands 2024 in-state 4-star linebacker

Brian Kelly’s plan of “Recruit the Boot” is still going strong.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag]’s plan of “Recruit the Boot” is still going strong as LSU just landed a commitment from one of the best players in Louisiana for the class of 2024.

[autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag] is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound, four-star linebacker from Many, Louisiana, where he plays for Many High School. The Many Tigers finished the 2022 season 13-0 with a win over Union Parish in the Division III Non-Select state championship game.

Singleton chose LSU over Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and more. He becomes the 19th overall commitment for the 2024 recruiting class and the third linebacker in the class. LSU’s 2024 recruiting class ranks as the No. 14 overall class in the country according to 247Sports.

Kelly has signed back-to-back top 10 recruiting classes while at LSU, but he has some work to do to climb into the top 10 for the 2024 class. There is still plenty of time to get that done, especially with one of the biggest recruiting weekends for LSU coming up.

LSU commit Trey’Dez Green aims to help Tigers lock down Louisiana

Trey’Dez Green is putting the pressure on his Louisiana cohort this summer.

Of the top 10 players in the state of Louisiana in the 2024 recruiting class, seven are committed to LSU.

That’s a good start for coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag], who has made in-state recruiting a priority since arriving in Baton Rouge. But the situation could get even better for the Tigers.

[autotag]Trey’Dez Green[/autotag], a tight end commit who ranks as the No. 2 player in the state, is focused on helping LSU lock down the boot. A two-sport athlete who also has an offer from the Tigers to play basketball, Green is putting the pressure on his Louisiana cohorts this summer.

“I wanted to be (one of the first recruits) in the 2024 class to say ‘let’s put a stop to going out of state and let’s stay home and put on for our people,’” Green said, according to On3.

The 6-foot-7 prospect has been committed since April, and as the No. 60 recruit nationally in the 247Sports composite, he’s the highest-ranked commit in LSU’s class.

LSU is in the mix for the top player in the state, five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag]. The Tigers are also the favorite to land the state’s No. 4 prospect, linebacker [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag].

Tennessee football to host official visits before recruiting dead period

Tennessee football to host official visits before the upcoming NCAA recruiting dead period.

The NCAA football recruiting dead period is slated for June 26-July 24.

During a dead period, it is considered not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations, on or off the member institution’s campus, or to permit official or unofficial visits by prospective student-athletes to the institution’s campus, per the NCAA.

The Vols are scheduled to host 2024 prospects for official visits ahead of the upcoming dead period.

The Vols have 14 commitments in the 2024 class: Offensive lineman Max Anderson, cornerback Kaleb Beasley, defensive lineman Carson Gentle, athlete Marcus Goree Jr., athlete Jonathan Echols, quarterback Jake Merklinger, offensive tackle Jesse Perry, offensive tackle Gage Ginther and safety Edrees Farooq, defensive lineman Jeremias Heard, edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom and running back Peyton Lewis, athlete Boo Carter and linebacker Jordan Burns.

Below are 2024 recruits who scheduled official visits to Tennessee ahead of the upcoming NCAA dead period.

LSU trending for top in-state prospects in 2024 recruiting class

Brian Kelly could be on his way to locking down the state of Louisiana in 2024.

Fresh off a great class in 2023, LSU continues to build momentum in 2024.

Part of that is due to all the success LSU is having within its home state. The difference between LSU’s classes being good versus great often comes down to how many of Louisiana’s top prospects end up in Baton Rouge. Right now, everything is trending in the right direction on that front.

According to On3, LSU’s class is currently 11th in the country, but several of LSU’s top targets are yet to commit.

The most notable in-state target could be defensive lineman [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag]. He sits 20th overall in On3’s industry rankings. The site gives LSU an 82% chance of landing the star defensive tackle.

247Sports also has McKinley as a five-star and the top player in the state.

Other in-state names to know include LB [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag] and CB [autotag]Wardell Mack[/autotag]. Both defenders are at positions of need for LSU and would be significant additions to the class.

NEW: 4-star TE Trey’Dez Green commits to LSU

The Tigers picked up their highest-rated commitment so far in the 2024 cycle on Wednesday.

LSU has the makings of a phenomenal tight end class in 2024.

On Wednesday, the Tigers secured the commitment of Jackson (La.) East Feliciana prospect [autotag]Trey’Dez Green[/autotag]. A four-star recruit who ranks as the No. 52 player nationally per On3, Green is the second-best prospect in the state of Louisiana in the cycle.

He chose the Tigers over Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Miami.

Listed at 6-foot-6.5 or 6-foot-5.5 depending on the recruiting service, Green is mainly considered a tight end though some sites list him as a receiver. He’s also a two-sport athlete and standout basketball prospect who plays power forward, and based on his announcement, it appears he intends to play both in college.

His addition gives LSU 14 commitments in a class that ranks in the top five nationally, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

With Green’s commitment, LSU holds pledges from three of the top 10 prospects in the state of Louisiana in 2024, and the Tigers hold Crystal Ball projections for two more in linebacker [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag] and cornerbacks [autotag]Wardell Mack[/autotag] and [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag].
