These are the high-profile 2024 football prospects visiting Texas A&M this weekend

Texas A&M is set for a busy month as they welcome close to a double-digit number of recruiting visits, beginning with this weekend’s list of high-profile 2024 football prospects.

While the summer months may separate fans from meaningful college football, it doesn’t negate exciting news to stop flowing in. As we officially turn the page to June, the 2024 recruiting cycle enters the exciting stage of campus visits.

Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher are set for a busy month as the Maroon and White is nearing double-digit visiting numbers from a handful of top football prospects. The coming weekend of June 2 to June 4 will see some of the best recruits on both the offensive and side of the ball get a preview of Aggieland, with the hope that they see College Station as their next home for the future.

While a handful of this weekend’s visitors are still progressing through their decision process, at least one current commit of a rival program is making his way to Aggieland in the coming days, offering an opportunity for the Maroon and White to help him reconsider his decision.

Here’s the list of the top 2024 football prospects visiting Texas A&M this weekend (June 2-4 ):

2024 4-star LB Tyanthony Smith will take an official visit to Texas A&M in June

It has been revealed that 2024 4-star linebacker Tyanthony will take an official visit to Texas A&M early next month

Let me start by saying that any curse you believe the Aggies are under when it comes to recruiting elite linebacker prospects, simply doesn’t exist. Every team in the country lacks some sort of recruiting finesse at certain positions mainly due to historical development within the program, but ever since defensive coordinator D.J Durkin added linebacker coach to his 2023 title, the Aggies’ 2024 recruiting cycle has seen multiple linebacker prospects, including four-star LB Tyanthony Smith set up visits this summer.

Smith, who has slowly become one of the fastest-rising linebackers in the class is coming off of a 2022 junior season at Jasper High School in Jasper, Texas where he went on to record 99 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks on the year, possessing the speed, range, and tackling ability to thrive at the collegiate level while continuing to add weight to an already sturdy frame (6-1, 205 pounds).

According to 247Sports Composite ratings, Smith has earned a four-star designation while ranking as the 27th linebacker prospect, and 52nd-ranked player in Texas. His rising profile has led to offers from Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and Alabama, while Texas A&M offered him back in late December of last year, where he went on to take two unofficial visits to College Station in January and March.

Well, it was revealed on Saturday that Smith will take an official visit to Texas A&M on June 2nd, just before visiting USC (June 17) and Texas (22), so let’s just say that the Aggies have the opportunity to make a lasting impressing ahead of any other competing program. You know the move, Tyanthony. Gig ‘Em.

Texas A&M needs to make 2024 4-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith a priority recruit

Texas A&M and 2024 4-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith’s relationship is growing, but as other suitors continue to field offers, it’s time for Jimbo Fisher to step it up a notch

Under head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M has been one of the worst programs in recruiting top linebacker talent, while recently losing out on five-star linebacker Anthony Hill to the Texas Longhorns after Hill was previously committed to the Maroon and White last July.

Going into the 2023 season, A&M’s linebacker depth is tied with cornerback as one of the weakest groups entering the season, and even worse, starters Chris Russell Jr. and Edgrerrin Cooper are both likely to depart next year, as the pressure mounts to land multiple prospects in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Who tops the list from a priority perspective? That would be Jasper, Texas native Tyanthony Smith, who according to 247Sports Composite is ranked as the 27th linebacker prospect, and 49th-ranked player in Texas. Smith is the definition of a rising prospect, and one of the hardest-playing linebackers in the country bar none. Though he still has room to grow as an athlete, the tape does not lie, and whether he’s defending the run or utilized in blitz packages, Smith consistently stands out on the field, so it’s no wonder Jimbo Fisher is one of his biggest fans.

Standing at 6-1, and 205 pounds, Smith has received offers from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas, USC, TCU, and many others. Since offering him in late December, Smith has taken two more unofficial visits, including a trek to College Station on March 22. This kid has IT, and every program in the country is beginning to notice, so if Fisher understands the recruiting landscape like I assume he does, more needs to be done to secure Tyanthony Smith in College Station for the three to four seasons.

Alabama offers 2024 LB Tyanthony Smith from Texas

Tyanthony Smith has received a lot of interest in recent weeks from power-five programs across the country. Now, Alabama is in the mix.

The Alabama coaching staff has begun to offer a number of prospects in the 2024 recruiting cycle. One of the more recent offers that the Crimson Tide extended was to 2024 linebacker Tyanthony Smith.

Smith plays linebacker for Jasper High School in Jasper, Texas. According to 247Sports, Smith was a first-team inside linebacker as a sophomore. During his sophomore season, he tallied 99 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and three sacks.

At this time, Texas A&M has a 31.4% likelihood to land Smith, according to On3’s RPM. However, Alabama still has time to cover some ground in Smith’s recruitment. It will be interesting to see if he makes any visits to Tuscaloosa in the months ahead.

Recruits react to weekend spent in Norman with the Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma hosted an important recruiting weekend for the 2024 class, and here’s how they reacted on social media.

A rough first season on the gridiron for Brent Venables, and his staff didn’t slow them down one bit on the recruiting trail for 2023. And it’s unlikely to hinder anything they do in the 2024 cycle as well.

A month removed from a strong performance in the Cheez-It Bowl, the Oklahoma coaching and recruiting staff have been grinding in preparation for this past weekend’s “Junior Day” on campus at the University of Oklahoma.

The Sooners hosted a number of top prospects in the 2024 recruiting class, including four-star quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag], four-star running back [autotag]Jeremy Payne[/autotag], four-star OL [autotag]Casey Poe[/autotag], and four-star safety [autotag]Aaron Flowers[/autotag]. Each has been trending in the Oklahoma Sooners’ favor.

Venables and his staff also hosted four-star in-state product [autotag]Xadavien Sims[/autotag], a defensive lineman out of Durant, Oklahoma. Michigan State is heavily pursuing Sims in addition to David Stone, who will be coming to Norman in a couple of months. These will be two crucial recruiting battles for the Sooners, especially after losing Norman’s Bai Jobe to the Spartans.

The Sooners’ staff has shown that they can recruit in the little more than a year they’ve spent in Norman. This weekend was a big opportunity to make some headway in some notable recruitments.

Here’s how a number of those prospects reacted to their time in Norman.
