Florida football gets in-state 4-star wide receiver to sign

The Gators add another small but speedy pass-catcher to its 2024 class signees.

Florida football added a blue-chip recruit from within the state’s borders Wednesday morning in accordance with head coach Billy Napier’s edict to dominate home territory.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Tawaski Abrams[/autotag], out of Fort Myers (Florida) Dunbar, officially penned his name at the bottom of his letter of intent to the Gators. He commited in mid-July. The 5-foot, 11-inch, 175-pound pass catcher originally committed to the Florida State Seminoles, but Florida’s wide receivers coach Billy Gonzalez persuaded him to come to Gainesville.

“(Gonzales) loves the speed,” Abrams told Swamp247. “That is what most coaches like about me. “He tells me I remind him of (former Florida receiver) Kadarius Toney. That is what he says. A lot of people say I should go to Florida solely because of that comparison.”

Speaking of speed, much like fellow 2024 signee Jerrae Hawkins, Abrams was a standout in high school track. That translated well on the gridiron. He caught 37 passes for 622 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 328 yards and six scores on 55 attempts — good for a 6.0 yards per carry average.

Overall, Abrams has had a very positive view of what the Orange and Blue have to offer, despite the nadir the program is mired in. It is the reliance on youth that he finds alluring.

“Being a guy coming into the program, you want to see that. You want to see younger guys getting on the field, because it lets you know if you do the same thing, you can have the same results. Everyone wants to get on the field as a freshman,” he noted.

“They want speed, they are building the program. They want the speed in their program, and they say I can do that for them. They are just trying to get guys that can run like me one player at a time.”

Abrams is ranked No. 328 overall and No.55 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite. The On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 343 and 58, respectively.

Florida football flips this 4-star FSU wide receiver commit

Billy Napier and Co. earned a preseason victory over their rivals on Tuesday night.

Billy Napier and Co. earned a preseason victory over their rivals, the Florida State Seminoles, on Tuesday evening when the Gators flipped four-star wide receiver commit [autotag]Tawaski Abrams[/autotag] from Tallahassee to Gainesville.

The 5-foot-11-inch, 175-pound pass-catcher out of Fort Myers (Florida) Dunbar had planned on donning the garnet and gold in 2024, but an official visit to the Swamp in June apparently helped seal the deal for the Orange and Blue.

“Just the connections around the world and stuff, and just seeing job opportunities outside of football,” Abrams told Swamp247. “Getting to see the players and how they communicate with the coaches, and just the facility itself, from recovery to actually playing on the field, what it brings for a player.

“Like, me being able to be used a lot, and see myself on the field early, like if I come early, because I’m going to be a December graduate, so like getting to training camp and stuff, I’ll be accustomed to the playbook already, so it’ll be easier for me during the season.”

Wide receivers coach Billy Williams also played an integral role in drawing the blue-chip talent to the rebuilding program.

“He wants me to play for him. He loves the speed. That is what most coaches like about me. He tells me I remind him of Kadarius Toney. That is what he says. A lot of people say I should go to Florida solely on that comparison.”

Abrams is ranked No. 276 overall and No. 40 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 263 and 46, respectively.

Florida could still flip this 4-star FSU wide receiver commit

Four-star wide receiver Tawaski Abrams sounds open to a flip from Florida State following an official visit to The Swamp.

The Florida Gators remain in pursuit of Dunbar (Fort Myers, Florida) wide receiver [autotag]Tawaski Abrams[/autotag], who is still considering UF despite being verbally committed to Florida State since late January.

Abrams, a consensus four-star recruit, was one of many official visitors in the Swamp over the weekend, and he left town admitting that he could see himself playing in Gainesville over Tallahassee, according to Gators Online.

“Just seeing everything, trying to figure out if Florida State is really the right deal for me,” Abrams said. “It opened my eyes to more stuff. Florida is a real good program… I like Florida State but it opened my eyes, like I said, to more things. I’ve just got to see if that’s really for me.”

Florida is clearly pushing the right buttons to keep Abrams interested, but securing a verbal flip is no easy task. It’s not just Florida State that UF has to beat. Texas A&M is making things a three-team race after hosting him on an official visit as well.

Abrams will stop by Florida State over the weekend of June 23, and the Seminoles should pull out all the stops to retain him. Those three programs are the only ones likely to receive official visits.

Florida is in the middle of a recruiting frenzy right now, adding seven commitments to the class since Saturday. It wouldn’t be surprising to see another player join the fray, especially an in-state receiver that’s looking to get on the field early.

Abrams expects to graduate early and early enroll at whichever college he ends up choosing. He’s hoping to have things wrapped up by the end of the summer.

The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of the four major recruiting services, has Abrams ranked No. 245 overall and No. 42 among receivers in the class of 2024.

These are the high-profile 2024 football prospects visiting Texas A&M this weekend

Texas A&M is set for a busy month as they welcome close to a double-digit number of recruiting visits, beginning with this weekend’s list of high-profile 2024 football prospects.

While the summer months may separate fans from meaningful college football, it doesn’t negate exciting news to stop flowing in. As we officially turn the page to June, the 2024 recruiting cycle enters the exciting stage of campus visits.

Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher are set for a busy month as the Maroon and White is nearing double-digit visiting numbers from a handful of top football prospects. The coming weekend of June 2 to June 4 will see some of the best recruits on both the offensive and side of the ball get a preview of Aggieland, with the hope that they see College Station as their next home for the future.

While a handful of this weekend’s visitors are still progressing through their decision process, at least one current commit of a rival program is making his way to Aggieland in the coming days, offering an opportunity for the Maroon and White to help him reconsider his decision.

Here’s the list of the top 2024 football prospects visiting Texas A&M this weekend (June 2-4 ):

Gators to host 4-star FSU wide receiver commit on official visit

Florida and Florida State are always battling for the same recruits, and a verbal commitment isn’t going to stop either side from recruiting a player it really wants.

Dunbar (Fort Myers, Florida) wide receiver [autotag]Tawaski Abrams[/autotag] committed to Florida State University back in January, but the Florida Gators never stopped recruiting the in-state, blue-chip recruit.

That persistence has paid off, though, as Abrams is now planning to take an official visit to the Swamp over the weekend of June 16, according to Swamp247’s Blake Alderman.

The changes on Florida’s coaching staff have played a role in Abrams’ increased interest in the program. Billy Gonzalez wasn’t around when the Gators offered Abrams, but the two have been in consistent communication with each other since he joined the staff.

“I talk to him pretty much every day building a good connection with him,” Abrams said to Alderman. “He wants me to play for him. He loves the speed. That is what most coaches like about me. He tells me I remind him of Kadarius Toney.”

That player comparison will have Florida fans drooling over Abrams, but he’s still a future Seminole for now. The On3 recruiting prediction machine still favors FSU heavily at 95.8% odds to sign him Abrams, but things could change after an official visit.

Abrams is a consensus four-star recruit that’s ranked No. 254 overall on the 247Sports composite. He’s also ranked No. 36 among wide receivers in the class of 2024.

Texas A&M is set to host 2024 4-Star WR and Florida State commit Tawaski Abrams in June

Despite his current commitment to Florida State, 2024 4-star WR Tawaski Abrams is set to visit Texas A&M on the weekend of June 2.

One of the best parts of recruiting season is the visits that catch us by surprise, especially with prospects already committed to a program. For Texas A&M, the weekend of June 2nd is a big one from a recruiting standpoint, as head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff are set to host three notable 2024 prospects, including offensive linemen Coen Echols and Makai Saina and four-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith.

On Tuesday night, one of those exciting surprises made its way to social media (Twitter), as four-star wide receiver Tawaski Abrams, who committed to Florida State back in January, will officially visit College Station and join Echols, Saina, and Smith on the weekend of June 2.

Abrams is an incredibly agile athlete and is most dangerous in space, but he is also a straight-line burner who, at 5-11 and 175 pounds, is an instant threat in the slot. According to 247Sports, he’s currently ranked 43rd wide receiver in the class and the 39th-ranked player in Florida.

The Aggies will now have their chance to make their pitch to Abrams this summer, and if their current 2023 wide receiver rotation isn’t enough of a selling point, maybe playing Evan Stewart, Moose Muhammad, and Ainias Smith highlights on repeat is an idea to ponder.

National Signing Day comes on Wednesday, February 1 – a major landmark for recruits in the class of 2023 to sign with their intended schools.

That means there are some big names that we will be watching over the next several days to see where they land. Here are the top-five remaining unsigned players in this recruiting cycle and where they might end up.

Archbishop Carroll (DC) Athlete Nyckoles Harbor

Maryland, Michigan, Oregon and South Carolina are in the lead to get him to sign.

Pinnacle (Ariz.) Tight end Duce Robinson

Robinson (6-foot-6, 225 pounds) is the No. 1 tight end in the country and ranks No. 17 overall. 28 teams have made Robinson an offer. His most recent official visit was to Texas and Oregon is getting some late buzz, but right now Georgia appears to be the clear favorite.

Pittsburg (Calif.) Quarterback Jaden Rashada

After flipping from Miami to Florida and then getting released from his letter of intent, Rashada (6-foot-4, 175 pounds) is the biggest wild card left in the deck. He’s ranked No. 7 among quarterbacks in his class and is getting a ton of attention – including from several new schools. According to On3, TCU, Arizona State, Washington, California, South Carolina, Utah and Nebraska are now also in the mix for Rashada.

Junipero Serra (Calif.) Cornerback Rodrick Pleasant

Pleasant (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) is one of the top-10 cornerbacks in his class and is ranked No. 7 overall in California. 30 programs have extended offers to Pleasant, with Boston College, California, Oregon, UCLA and USC in the lead, per 247Sports.

Folsom (Calif.) Tight end Walker Lyons

Lyons (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) is the fifth-best tight end in the class of 2023, according to the composite rankings. He has offers from 33 schools; Georgia, BYU, USC, Utah and Stanford are all considered to be in the running.

LSU makes top 8 for four-star wide receiver

The Tigers are making a push for Florida wideout Tawaski Abrams.

[autotag]Tawaski Abrams[/autotag] is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound, four-star wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class. He is from Fort Myers, Florida, where he plays for Dunbar High School. The Dunbar Tigers finished the 2022 season 10-2 with a loss to Daytona Beach Mainland in the Class 3S semifinals.

Abrams was a star for the Tigers and his stats from the season earned him a spot on the first-team All-State team. Abrams recently released a list of his top eight schools, and the LSU Tigers made the list. LSU joins Florida State, Vanderbilt, Florida A&M, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

The LSU 2024 recruiting class is currently ranked as the No. 2 class in the country with eight commitments so far including wide receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] from Langston Hughes High School in Georgia.

Abrams has no Crystal Ball projections at this time, but Florida State is currently a 44% favorite per On3 with LSU being the second favorite at 20%.
