Social media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners big win over West Virginia

Dillon Gabriel, Drake Stoops, and the Oklahoma Sooners had huge days in their win over West Virginia, and here’s how social media reacted.

That’s what they call a palate cleanser.

After two weeks of poor execution, unforced errors, untimely penalties, poor play calling, and poor officiating, that’s just what the Oklahoma Sooners needed.

The Sooners thoroughly dominated West Virginia. Sure, the Mountaineers scored 20 points, but this is a team that was averaging 37.75 points per game over their last four games. WVU had the No. 7 rushing attack. And even though they gave up some runs, the Sooners’ defense put them in 2nd and 3rd and long situations enough to be able to force Garrett Greene to beat them with his arm.

And we saw how poorly that worked out for West Virginia.

As well as the defense played, it was the Oklahoma Sooners offense that was the story. Dillon Gabriel passed Colt Brennan for 10th all-time in career passing yards and then set a new Oklahoma record for touchdowns in a game with eight.

Drake Stoops followed up his career day in Bedlam with another career day in Oklahoma’s win.

The offense was back on track, didn’t turn the ball over, and the defense played sound football and the Sooners still have Big 12 title aspirations, even if they do need a lot of help to get there.

It was a dominating win for the Sooners and here’s how social media reacted.

Social media reacts to horrible roughing the passer penalty on the Commanders

One of the worst calls you’ll ever see.

Washington Commanders rookie defensive end K.J. Henry is playing in his first career NFL game on Sunday against the New England Patriots. On the Patriots’ first possession in the third quarter, Henry made his presence felt, sacking New England quarterback Mac Jones on third-and-10 and forcing the fumble.

The Commanders recover, and it’s Washington’s football around midfield.

Wait, there’s a flag.

Amazingly, the officials called roughing the passer on Henry, giving the Patriots the football back and a first down — in field-goal range.

Judge for yourself:

Needless to say, Twitter — or X — did not like the call.

Here are some of the best reactions.

Social media reacts to Commanders trading Chase Young to 49ers

The top reactions to Chase Young’s trade to the 49ers.

The Washington Commanders kicked off a new era on Tuesday. Ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, Washington traded defensive ends Montez Sweat (Chicago Bears) and Chase Young (San Francisco 49ers) for second and third-round picks in the 2024 NFL draft, respectively.

Commanders’ fans appreciated Sweat, but many felt the value was too good to pass up. As for Young, feelings were mixed. While Sweat has been the better player, Young was the more hyped player, and sometimes, that hype far exceeded his on-field production.

Young, who had missed the better part of the past two seasons, was playing reasonably well this year with five sacks. But fans, remembering the promise of his rookie season, were left wanting more.

As for the compensation, Washington will receive one of San Francisco’s compensatory selections in the 2024 NFL draft. That upset some, but, as NFL insiders will tell you, was the market for Young due to his injury history and contract expiring.

Here are some of the top reactions to the Chase Young trade.

Social media reacts to Commanders trading Montez Sweat to Bears

Social media agrees this is a good trade for the Commanders.

The Washington Commanders traded defensive end Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears Tuesday, ahead of the NFL trade deadline. In return, Washington receives Chicago’s second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, which, if the season ended today, would be No. 35 overall.

The Commanders long wanted to retain Sweat, but the change in ownership delayed any chances at a potential long-term deal. Rather than losing Sweat for a compensatory third-round selection in 2025, Washington agreed to trade Sweat, guaranteeing compensation in 2024.

Compensatory selections are not guaranteed. If the Commanders spent a specific amount in free agency in 2024, it could cancel any compensatory pick Washington would receive in 2025, making this an excellent move for the Commanders and new owner Josh Harris.

What did social media think of the trade? Here are some of the best reactions to the Sweat trade.

Twitter reacts to Commanders latest embarrassing loss

We’ve found some of the best and most honest social media reactions from the Commanders’ loss to the Giants.

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Commanders 14-7 Sunday from MetLife Stadium. It was Washington’s fourth loss in five games, dropping the Commanders to 3-4, with the Philadelphia Eagles coming to town next week.

Much like most of their performances this season, another slow start doomed Washington. The Commanders punted seven times in the first half and turned the ball over once, finishing with just 46 total yards.

Washington began to move the ball in the third quarter, scoring its lone touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Washington had back-to-back 80+-yard drives end with zero points after a missed field goal on one drive and Jahan Dotson’s drop to end the game.

How did Twitter — or X — respond to Washington’s latest loss? We gathered some of the top and most realistic reactions from Sunday.

Social media reacts to Commanders’ putrid start vs. Giants

The best action from the first half occurred on social media.

Washington’s Week 7 game against the New York Giants was significant for multiple reasons. The Commanders were facing a beat-up Giants team without numerous starters on the offensive line and quarterback Daniel Jones.

Secondly, this was Washington’s chance to go on a run.

How would the Commanders respond?

Not good.

In Washington’s first five possessions, the Commanders went three-and-out four times, and quarterback Sam Howell was intercepted the other time. Predictably, Washington is behind 14-0.

While the offense is putrid, the defense hasn’t been any better, allowing close to 250 yards and counting in the first half.

The most entertaining part of the first half was on X — formerly Twitter — where Washington fans go to vent.

Here are some of the best reactions thus far.

Social media reacts as Utah downs Lincoln Riley, USC once again

The USC Trojans dropped to 0-3 against the Utah Utes under Lincoln Riley and here’s how social media reacted.

During his tenure at Oklahoma, Lincoln Riley struggled with teams known for a tough, physical brand of football. Whether Iowa State, Kansas State or Baylor, Riley’s Sooners were generally in a dogfight with those squads and several times came out on the losing end.

Well, Riley’s toughness struggles have found their way west. The USC Trojans are 0-3 against Kyle Whittingham’s Utah Utes over the last two seasons.

It the fourth season in a row a Lincoln Riley-coached team has lost at least two games in the regular season.

The Trojans are 5-2, while the Oklahoma Sooners are 7-0. If there wasn’t a clearer sign that the coaching change worked out for the better for the Oklahoma Sooners, this season is providing the proof.

Here’s how social media reacted to Riley’s second-consecutive loss.

Social media reacts: Sam Pittman mum regarding Dan Enos’ future

Kinda feels like something is going to happen soon at Arkansas, doesn’t it?

Sam Pittman and Dan Enos go back a way. When they worked together at Arkansas under head coach Bret Bielema, the Razorbacks had one of the best offenses in the country.

Arkansas fans were hoping the reunification would allow the Razorbacks to take the next step in 2023.

It, uh, hasn’t worked.

Pittman was directly after Arkansas’ 7-3 loss to Mississippi State on Saturday whether he would consider any changes to his staff during the season. Pittman said he didn’t want to answer the question.

In other words, yes.

That doesn’t mean Dan Enos, in his first year back at Arkansas as offensive coordinator since the Bielema regime, will be let go. But the Razorbacks entered the MSU game 118th in total offense. After logging just 200 yards against the Bulldogs, that number is all but certain to fall further.

And the Hogs’ faithful were out in full force, accordingly.

Here are some of the best social-media reactions after Arkansas’ loss.

The Cowboys believed they were arriving to forge their identity. They believed they were there to exorcise their demons from the last two seasons. They believed they deserved to be mentioned in the same breath as the San Francisco 49ers. As a wise man once said, you can’t believe what you know.

Dallas did not know it in their hearts they belonged on the same field as the San Francisco 49ers and spent three hours on Sunday night fulfilling the fantasies of the large portion of America that tunes in to see if Dallas will lose. With a 42-10 whooping, the Cowboys fell to 3-2. A respectable record, but Dallas disrespected themselves with their abysmal showing.  Here’s how the Twitter world responded to the performance.
