Kawhi Leonard’s dance moves have a lot of meme potential

Kawhi Leonard’s dance moves only add to his meme legend.

Kawhi Leonard tried to tell us he was a fun guy at the start of last season and, my goodness, we should’ve listened.

Not only has Leonard been the absolute pinnacle of basketball excellence for the last year, he’s also been a bottomless well of meme content. Everything from “WHAT IT DO BAYBEEEE” all the way down to the robotic laugh programmed in to his wiring, he’s given us nothing but laughs.

On Saturday ahead of the All-Star game he added to that list. When he was introduced during an All-Star event, they had Leonard walk out to Nipsey Hussle’s “Last Time that I checked” joint. Of course, you know he had to give us a little bit of that West Coast two step.

MY GOODNESS, y’all. If you thought Kawhi was a robot before? You’ve been vindicated. Here’s your proof right here. My man is on beat but he’s moving like somebody’s grandpa. Somebody put some WD-40 on them creaky joints.

In all seriousness, though, this is probably just something slight from Leonard. Hopefully, we see the full bag on Sunday night when it’s really time to shine.

Knicks branding specialist Steve Stoute somehow made the Knicks even messier

OH BOY.

The perpetual dumpster fire that is the New York Knicks just keeps getting hotter and hotter. This time it’s the guy who they hired to put out the fire who is actually spraying it with a gasoline right now.

Steve Stoute, the branding specialist and marketer the Knicks hired to clean their image up, made a big mess on Tuesday.

Stoute jumped on First Take to talk about….his job description? No, seriously. He came to talk about how he was going to rebrand the Knicks.

From the jump, it was clear he was very uncomfortable with the conversation — which is reasonable for a guy, what, two weeks on the job? This entire conversation is making me squirm over here. Imagine being Stoute sitting in that chair knowing your billionaire owner boss is listening.

Yeah…who approved this appearance again?

During his appearance, Stoute alluded to potential coaching changes being on the way. Interim head coach Mike Miller is at the helm now, but Stoute alluded to a new coach being on the way despite him having no control over personnel. HOO BOY.

“There had to be a change in  [with Steve Mills fired]. That change will bring a new coach and new coaches that are going to help develop these younger players. And they got some young players — you see RJ Barrett, Mitch Robinson. They got something to work with. And getting a coach in there and ultimately getting a coach and a coaching staff that’s going to help develop a team.”

Apparently, that’s outside of Stoute’s job description. How do we know? Because the Knicks told us. Yup. That’s right. ANOTHER KNICKS TWITTER STATEMENT.

At least it wasn’t on the notes app this time?

This is… definitely not a good look for Stoute. Talk about a rough first couple weeks at the new gig.

You KNOW you did something wrong when you’ve even got Woj roasting you on the TL. Woj doesn’t even tweet things.

Out of pocket, Woj. Out of pocket. A rough day for y’all Knicks, fans. Hopefully, you have better days ahead. It can’t get any worse, right?

Pray for Charles.

People are so confused about the Andre Drummond trade

What are the Pistons doing?

Andre Drummond is reportedly set to become a Cleveland Cavalier… which makes absolutely no sense.

The Pistons were trying to get rid of Andre Drummond so they wouldn’t have to pay him a ridiculous amount of money this offseason to stay in basketball purgatory.

That makes perfect sense, right? They wanted to get something back for Drummond instead of just letting him walk for nothing. That’s prudent General Managing, if I do say so myself.

Now, let’s see, what did they get back… Brandon Knight? John Henson? And a second round pick? WHAT?

Fam… a ham sandwich would’ve been just as good. What are the Pistons doing?

The internet was trying to figure it out, too. Obviously, we’re all clueless.

This trade is super weird, man. Not only does it not make sense, it puts the Pistons right back on this weird wheel of mediocrity that they’ll run on forever and ever.

Oh no. The Pistons… the Pistons are a hamster.

Good luck this season, Pistons fans. You’re going to need it.

Twitter is roasting Richard Sherman for getting burned by Sammy Watkins

Richard Sherman got roasted on Twitter during Super Bowl 54.

Richard Sherman is one of the biggest trash talkers the NFL has ever seen. He’s not shy about letting you know how good he is.

And who can blame him? He’s a Hall of Fame cornerback at the end of the day. Anyone that good would be a great trash talker.

But, of course, there are rules that come with trash talk, fam. If you dish it out, you KNOW it’s going to come back hard when you have a misstep. And you’ve got to be able to take it.

Y’all know the rule. “If thou speaketh garbage upon a man, thou shall get garbage in return.” It’s in the book. Page 73, section 113. Check it out.

Sherman knows that. And that’s where he’s at right now. After winning the NFC Championship he promptly engaged in a back and forth with Darrelle Revis on Twitter that basically ended with him telling him to watch the Super Bowl from the couch.

In the moment? Man that trash talk looks great. But tonight? Uhhh, not looking so good.

Sherman got absolutely ROASTED by Sammy Watkins on a big play that put the Chiefs in scoring position.

Whew boy. What a move. What a route. What a catch. Great stuff by Watkins.

But y’all know Twitter. They were absolutely NOT going to let Sherman live that one down. A whole lot of “Darrelle Revis was right” going around right now.

Whew boy. That’s not fun. It’s not fair, honestly — Watkins made an AMAZING play that got him wide open.

But it doesn’t matter. If you talk trash, you get it back. Thems the rules.

Amari, Jaylon have memorable moments in Pro Bowl overshadowed by Bryants tragedy

Playing in the wake of the news of Kobe Bryant’s sudden death, Amari Cooper and Jaylon Smith provided highlights at the 2020 Pro Bowl.

The actual Pro Bowl game has long been a glorified walkthrough for the players involved, with little in the way of noteworthy on-the-field football action.

It’s about the honor of being selected, it’s a celebration of a well-played season, it’s a photo op that allows opponents from different teams to hook up for a few hours of unorthodox player combinations. It’s supposed to be fun… but despite a few bright moments for the Cowboys in attendance, the 2020 Pro Bowl was a thoroughly somber affair overshadowed by the tragic news of the day.

Word that NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna were among 9 killed in a California helicopter accident hit the players shortly before Sunday’s kickoff in Orlando. It made for a surreal scene as Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson reportedly huddled the NFC team in prayer and players sought details on the developing story from media members. Player introductions were subdued, to say the least.

Fans were also getting the news, and they soon took part in a mass tribute at Camping World Stadium during the AFC’s 38-33 victory.

The game often had a bizarre feel to it, even more disjointed than the typical All-Star affair. Cowboys fans did get to see wide receiver Amari Cooper haul in a six-yard touchdown strike from Wilson in the second quarter. Cooper ended the day with three catches for 24 yards.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed just once for 4 yards. He did catch both balls thrown his way for another 15 yards. Oddly enough, Elliott also threw  an interception after his jump pass to Cooper on a halfback option was picked off by Steelers defensive back Joe Haden.

Linebacker Jaylon Smith was involved in twelve tackles, leading all Pro Bowlers on the day. Smith was on the field for several of the player tributes to Bryant, including a group fadeaway jump shot organized by Packers linebacker Za’Darius Smith.

It was one of many moments before, during, and after the game that honored the 41-year old Lakers legend, whose 13-year-old daughter Gianna was also among those lost in the accident.

Many in the Cowboys family took to social media to share their thoughts on the tragedy.

Bears players react to death of Kobe Bryant

Bears players mourning the loss of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who was tragically killed in a helicopter crash Sunday morning in Los Angeles.

The sports world is mourning the tragic loss of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash Sunday morning in Los Angeles.

He was only 41 years old.

Bryant was one of five passengers onboard the helicopter, and it has been reported that there are no survivors.

The thought of losing someone like Kobe Bryant so young was unimaginable, so many Bears players hoped it wasn’t true.

Bears players reacted to Bryant’s death on Twitter, sending their thoughts and prayers out to him and his family, as well as speaking about his impact and the legacy he leaves behind.

Our thoughts are with Bryant’s family and friends, as well as the families of the other four passengers on board, at an extremely difficult time.

2020 NFL Draft: Fans had so many jokes about the NFL’s draft pick boat

DRAFT BOAT. SERIOUSLY.

The NFL Draft is a moment on its own. It’s literally always incredible theater each and every year.

We’re watching young men accomplish the dream that they’ve been working toward for years finally reach the mountaintop. There are always tears of joy, stories of triumph and, pretty much, perfect moments. And, to put a cherry on top, this year it’s in Las Vegas!

There’s not much you can do to make this thing better for television. And someone, for whatever reason, thought “screw it, let’s throw a boat in there.”

That’s right. NFL Draft picks will be transported to the stage by boat. An actual boat. A draft boat.

Yup, this is pretty ridiculous. And, just like every other ridiculous thing to ever exist on the internet, the draft boat came with plenty of jokes.

This might be the most Las Vegas thing ever. Just prepare yourself for all of the dad jokes related to boats we’ll get from the broadcast.

I know. I’m not excited either.

Former NBA players come to Kevin Durant’s defense against Kendrick Perkins

Ah, yes. NBA beef. My favorite.

The NBA is certainly a fraternity of some sort, because what a fraternity without some type of beef.

On Thursday night, Kendrick Perkins and Kevin Durant went at it on Twitter. Now Kendrick Perkins is receiving blowback from all sides of the NBA world.

If you missed the Perkins-Durant feud, the current ESPN analyst sparked a dialogue by saying that Russell Westbrook is unquestionably the best player to have worn a Thunder jersey. When Durant chimed in, Perkins ripped him for going to the Warriors in “the weakest move in NBA history,” and questioned the legitimacy of Durant’s two rings.

Gilbert Arenas came to Durant’s defense with an entire dissertation about why Durant was correct in leaving, why RINGZ culture is toxic and a whole bunch of typos. Yes, I read the entire thing. Yes, my eyes do hurt.

(Warning: These interactions contain some profanity)

Basketball’s OG Charles Oakley also came to Durant’s defense, telling Perkins not to be like his dreaded nemesis Charles Barkley.

Matt Barnes also came to Durant’s defense as well, saying that everyone was entitled to their opinion but no one can deny Durant’s greatness.

Perkins actually responded to this one! He chose the “well, he started it” defense (which, technically, isn’t true).

Somehow, Perkins is cooking up a lot of beef this season. I, for one, am enjoying it. Don’t know if it’s him being on TV or if he was always just like this.

Either way, keep this party going big guy.

In case you missed it (and we know you didn’t), Michigan absolutely eviscerated Michigan State in a way it hasn’t since 2002, destroying the Spartans, 44-10.

It’s the second year in a row that the maize and blue dominated the green and white, but this time the score was much more lopsided than last year’s 21-7 affair.

The Wolverines came alive in all three phases, with Shea Patterson breaking Tom Brady’s passing record in the rivalry on offense, the defense all but shutting MSU’s offense down after the first (and only) Spartans touchdown, and Khaleke Hudson getting yet another punt block on special teams.

This time, for the MSU faithful, there’s no excuses or sugarcoating the loss. There’s no ‘defeat with dignity,’ no reasoning — despite the numerous offensive injuries — that can justify how thoroughly Michigan dominated State.

If you weren’t active on social media on Saturday night, then you might have missed several current and former Michigan players taking to Twitter to celebrate the big win while putting Sparty (a.k.a. ‘Little Brother,’ as many put it) in his place.

WolverinesWire has you covered with some of the best reactions here.
