B/R gives Sixers a B-minus for free agency signing of Trevelin Queen

The Philadelphia 76ers received a grade of B-minus for their addition of Trevelin Queen.

The Philadelphia 76ers made their mark early in free agency when they signed three free agents. The biggest was PJ Tucker, but two other signings helped improve roster depth.

One addition was Trevelin Queen who only has 10 games of NBA experience as a two-way player with the Houston Rockets in the 2021-22 season. The versatile wing player was named the 2022 G League MVP when he averaged 25.3 points and 6.7 rebounds along with 5.2 assists to lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a G League title.

Queen shot 37.5% from deep in the 10 games with the Rockets on 2.4 attempts per game. That shot is something he can bring to Philadelphia in order to help the team have success.

Bleacher Report gave their grades for the team’s signings and they gave the Sixers a B-minus for the Queen addition:

What does that mean for Queen’s NBA outlook? Not a ton. The list of G League MVP winners isn’t exactly littered with household names, though Sixers fans will surely recognize the 2020-21 winner, Paul Reed.

Shooting will be a swing skill for Queen (he shot 33.5 percent from three last season, although he launched them at a high volume), but if he hits enough to find the floor, he can inject the wing rotation with defensive activity and transition buckets. The reward probably won’t be great, but the cost is minimal (his two-year deal is only partially guaranteed for the first season), so it’s hard to have any gripes.

Considering the Sixers have a need for depth on the wings and Queen will have every opportunity to earn a rotational spot. He is currently with the team’s summer league squad in Las Vegas and that will give him his first opportunity to make an impression on the team.
