SUPER SHOWING: LSU beats Oregon State to win Baton Rouge Regional, advance to super regional

LSU will host a super regional at Alex Box Stadium against either Kentucky or Indiana this weekend.

For the 16th time in program history, LSU is advancing to the super regionals after a 13-7 win over Oregon State in the Baton Rouge Regional final.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] got the nod on the mound on Monday afternoon as LSU looked to punch its ticket to the Baton Rouge Super Regional. LSU would have to beat Oregon State just once in two games to make that happen.

The Tigers drew first blood in the top of the fourth inning when they scored four runs on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly by [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag], and a two-RBI triple by [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag].

In the bottom of the fourth, the Beavers cut the lead in half with a two-run homer to cut the lead to 4-2. In the top of the fifth inning, LSU got those runs back as [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] and [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] hit back-to-back homers for the second day in a row to increase the lead to 6-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit a Crews Missile off of the Tony Chachere sign in left-center field to increase the lead to 7-2. The Beavers struck again in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run shot to cut the lead to 7-4 after six innings.

In the top of the seventh, LSU put the game out of reach as the Tigers scored five more runs to make it 12-4 LSU after seven innings. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] hit a homer, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single, Crews scored on a wild pitch, and White scored on an RBI single by Travinski.

In the top of the ninth, LSU scored again on an RBI double by [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] to make it 13-4. Oregon State was down to its final three outs of the season, and the Beavers scored a run to cut the lead to 13-7 but that is all they could manage as the Tigers secured a spot in the supers next weekend.

LSU will play the winner of the Lexington Regional between No. 12 Kentucky and Indiana in its super regional.

LSU heads to losers’ bracket after SEC tournament loss to Arkansas

LSU will play Texas A&M in an elimination game Friday at 3 p.m. CT.

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Hagan Smith[/autotag], the No. 2 seed facing the No. 3 seed, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Peyton Holt[/autotag] facing each other the storylines wrote themselves ahead of Thursday’s SEC tournament game against Arkansas for LSU.

Ultimately, the Razorbacks will have Friday off while LSU will have to face Texas A&M in an elimination game after the Hogs won 5-4.

[autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] got the scoring started with an RBI single in the top of the first to draw first blood. The Tigers scored again in the fourth inning when [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 LSU.

The Razorbacks flipped the script in the bottom of the fourth inning as they plated five runs (only two earned) against Skenes. That chased him from the mound. He finished the day after going 3.2 innings and allowing 5 runs on four hits, three strikeouts, and two walks.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] stepped in to try and finish the inning. With the game tied 2-2, Cooper appeared to have gotten the third out, BUT [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] was called for catcher’s interference with bases loaded and that scored a run. They scored two more after that to make it 5-2 Arkansas after four innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit an RBI single to score Travinski to cut the lead to 5-3 as we headed to the bottom of the eighth. The top of the order was due up in the ninth for the Tigers but could they make a comeback?

[autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] popped out for out number one. Crews then hit a solo homer to cut the lead to 5-4 as [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] came into pinch-hit. Kling struck out for out number two. White grounded out for out number three and Arkansas won 5-4.

With the loss, LSU will play Texas A&M on Friday in an elimination game at 3 p.m. CT.

LSU beats No. 6 seed South Carolina to start SEC tournament run

Thatcher Hurd got the win on the mound as the Tigers advance to the winners’ bracket in the double-elimination tournament.

[autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] got the start on the mound as LSU played its first game of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament against South Carolina. These two teams faced off in Columbia earlier this season and split the series 1-1, but the Tigers took the de facto rubber match with a 10-3 win to advance into the winners’ bracket.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] drew first blood in the bottom of the second inning when he hit a two-run homer into the trees in right field.

South Carolina got one of those runs back in the top of the fifth inning via a solo homer to cut the lead to 2-1. LSU got that run back plus a few more in the bottom of the fifth with two bases-loaded walks and two sacrifice flys extending the lead to 6-1.

Hurd ran into some issues in the top of the sixth inning as he loaded the bases and then walked a run in. [autotag]Sam Dutton[/autotag] then came into pitch.

Hurd had a good day, overall. He pitched 5.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits, four strikeouts, and two walks. Dutton walked in the first batter he faced and that scored another run for Carolina as they cut the lead to 6-3. Dutton was then pulled for [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag].

Ackenhausen retired the next two batters to get LSU out of the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] both hit RBI singles to increase the lead to 8-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Crews and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag], both hit RBI singles to give LSU a 10-3 lead heading into the eighth inning.

Ackenhausen stayed in to pitch the ninth inning as he closed out the Gamecocks, and LSU won its first game in the conference tournament 10-3. LSU advances to play the winner of the Arkansas/Texas A&M game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT.

LSU drops series finale against Georgia, will be No. 3 seed at SEC tournament in Hoover

The Tigers still took the series, but they missed a chance to win the regular season SEC title.

LSU entered Game 3 with a chance to be the regular season SEC champions, but Georgia was having none of that as the Dawgs took Game 3 with a 9-5 win. The Tigers still took the series and will now be the No. 3 seed at the SEC tournament in Hoover, Alabama, next week.

[autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] got the Tigers on the board first with a two-run bomb in the top of the first inning to put LSU up 2-0.

Georgia made a comeback in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game after a [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] error. In the bottom of the third, the Dawgs took their first lead of the game on a solo homer off of [autotag]Javen Coleman[/autotag] to take a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, [autotag]Sam Dutton[/autotag] entered the game to pitch for Coleman and Georgia greeted him by scoring three runs to extend their lead to 6-2 after four innings. In the top of the sixth inning, LSU cut the Georgia lead to two after a solo homer by [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] and a double steal that resulted in [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] stealing home to make it 6-4 Dawgs.

Georgia got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a bases-loaded walk by [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] to extend the lead to 7-4. In the top of the seventh, White hit a solo shot to cut the lead to 7-5.

Georgia scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to increase their lead to 9-5 as we headed to the eighth inning. LSU loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning with only one out. Jobert struck out for out No. 2 which left everything in the hands of [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag]. Thompson hit a flyball for an out and LSU lost 9-5.

With the loss, LSU drops to 42-13 overall and 19-10 in conference play. LSU fails to win the regular season conference title. We will see what the SEC tournament pairings will be soon as the Tigers will try to make a deep run in the conference tournament.

LSU will be the No. 3 seed. That means they will play the winner of the game between the No. 6 seed and the No. 11 seed. That game will be at 9:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

LSU drops back-to-back SEC series with Sunday’s Game 3 collapse against Mississippi State

The Tigers led 13-4 in the sixth, but a Bulldogs rally erased that lead as LSU lost another conference series.

After blowing a lead late in Game 2, LSU looked to rebound and take the series against Mississippi State in Game 3. Instead, the Tigers saw a similar result as they squandered a 13-4 lead in the sixth inning to fall to the Bulldogs 14-13 in extras.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] got the game started off right as he hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to give LSU a 3-0 lead.

Mississippi State got one of those runs back in the top of the third inning as the Bulldogs hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1. LSU got that run back plus one more in the bottom of the inning as [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit a solo homer and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit an RBI double to give LSU a 5-1 lead after three innings.

Things started to unravel in the top of the fourth, though, as the Bulldogs scored three runs against [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] to cut the lead to 5-4. Once again, the Tigers answered. It all started with an error to score [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag]. After that, things went downhill fast for Mississippi State. [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit an RBI single, [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] reached on a fielder’s choice but got an RBI, and Jobert hit a two-RBI single to make it 10-4 LSU.

Mississippi State loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning against [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] but [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] came in and got the Tigers out of the jam without allowing any runs. After a Gavin Dugas double to start the bottom of the fifth, Morgan hit a two-run homer to increase the Tiger lead to 12-4. Hayden Travinski followed that with an RBI single to make it 13-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the game as an RBI single and a three-run homer cut the lead to 13-8. In the top of the seventh inning, the Tiger lead came crashing down as Mississippi State scored five runs against three different pitchers to tie the game at 13.

What once looked as if it would be another run-rule victory had now become a tie game.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases before [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] got LSU out of the threat unscathed. In the bottom of the ninth inning, [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] drew a walk to put the winning run on first base. [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] came into run for Pearson.

Kling advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and he advanced to third on a flyout by Morgan. Crews and White were intentionally walked to load the bases as [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] stepped into the box. He fouled out, and we headed to extras.

In the top of the 10th, the Bulldogs took the lead on a fielder’s choice to give them a 14-13 lead. Jones, Jobert, and Thompson were LSU’s final hope. Jones struck out swinging for out No. 1. Jobert walked to put the winning run at first. Thompson hit a fly ball into a double play and the game ended in a 14-13 Mississippi State victory.

With the loss, LSU drops to 39-12 and 17-9 in conference play. LSU has now lost two straight conference series. The next game will be on Tuesday against McNeese.

LSU’s bullpen implodes as Mississippi State takes Game 2

Ty Floyd took the mound as the Tigers looked to take the series against Mississippi State at Alex Box Stadium.

[autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] took the mound as the Tigers looked to take the series against Mississippi State at Alex Box Stadium, but struggles in the bullpen cost LSU Game 2 in an 9-4 loss. Coach Jay Johnson’s team will look to avoid a second-straight series loss on Sunday.

LSU scored first on a bases-loaded walk to [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] to give LSU an early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers extended that lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a bomb to left field to make it 2-0 Tigers after four innings.

The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double to cut the lead in half. [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] came into the game for Floyd in the top of the seventh inning. Floyd went six innings allowing five hits and one run on a walk and 10 strikeouts. An outstanding start from Floyd is just what the doctor ordered.

Ackenhausen was met with a solo homer by the first hitter he faced and the game was tied 2-2. Ackenhausen was able to get a strikeout to end the inning and limit the damage to only one run as we headed to the bottom of the seventh. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] broke the tie with an RBI single with the bases loaded to give the Tigers the lead. [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] then grounded into a double play, but it scored [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] to give LSU a 4-2 lead.

[autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] took the mound to start the eighth inning as he looked to keep the Tigers in the lead. The first batter he faced hit a double and the second batter hit a homer to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning. After a walk and a single to the next two hitters, State hit an RBI single to left to give them a 5-4 lead.

[autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] then entered the game for Hurd. After retiring the first two batters he faced, the Bulldogs hit a three-run homer to extend their lead to 8-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

LSU was unable to score any runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Tigers dropped Game 2 9-4. Game three of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

LSU takes Game 1 against Mississippi State with dominating run-rule win

After dropping their first SEC series of the year last weekend, the Tigers decided not to play with their food in Game 1 against Mississippi State.

After dropping their first SEC series of the year last weekend, the Tigers decided not to play with their food in Game 1 against Mississippi State.

LSU drew first blood and scored four runs in the first two innings as [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag], [autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag], and [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] all hit homers to get the Tigers out to a 5-0 lead.

The game stayed that way until the top of the sixth inning when the Bulldogs scored their only run of the game on a solo homer to left field off of [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag]. LSU answered that run with three of their own as [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] walked with bases loaded, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit an RBI single, and [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to score [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] and make it 8-1 LSU.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU scored four more runs as they secured a run-rule victory in Game 1 by a 12-1 clip. Morgan hit a two-RBI single and White followed that with a two-run homer to walk it off.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at Alex Box Stadium.

Auburn takes a wacky Game 2 to tie the series against LSU

LSU will look to avoid its first series defeat of the season in Sunday’s Game 3.

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] pitched a gem on Friday as the Tigers took Game 1 over Auburn. Paul Skenes and Tre Morgan lead the way for LSU in Game 1 shutout win at Auburn

LSU started the weekend the right way with a 3-0 win on the plains.

LSU traveled to Auburn, Alabama, to take on the Tigers as they tried to go for a third straight conference series sweep. Coach Jay Johnson’s team started the weekend off on the right foot with a 3-0 shutout win to take Game 1.

[autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] got the party started in the top of the first inning with a two-run shot to right field to give LSU an early 2-0 lead.

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] got the start on the mound and he did what he always does. Goes deep into the game and gets a lot of strikeouts. He made Auburn players whiff on pitches all night as he racked up 15 strikeouts through 7.1 innings with six hits and a walk.

In the top of the seventh inning, Auburn pitcher, [autotag]Tanner Bauman[/autotag], was called for a balk. That call moved [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] from first to second base with Captain Morgan at the plate. Morgan proceeded to hit an RBI single to extend the LSU lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Skenes struck out the first batter before [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] came in to pitch. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Auburn’s leadoff hitter hit a single. That chased Ackenhausen from the game and brought in [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag]. Hurd struck out the first batter he faced for out No. 1. He then struck out the second hitter for out No. 2. He got the next batter to ground out and he secured a 3-0 win for LSU in game one.

With the win, LSU moves to 37-8 overall and 16-5 in conference play this season. Game 2 will be Saturday night on the plains with the first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.

Pair of homers lead LSU baseball to Game 1 win over Alabama

The Tigers bounced back from a midweek loss with a series-opening win on Friday.

The Tigers looked to bounce back after another midweek loss as they welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide into Alex Box Stadium this weekend, and they did just that with an 8-6 win to take Game 1.

[autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] got the start on the mound, but that wasn’t the best news LSU had heard all week, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] being healthy enough to play were the best news anyone has heard.

Speaking of White, he got the scoring started off with a bang as he hit a “Tommy Tank” to right field to put the Tigers up 1-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] joined the homerun party as he hit a “Crews Missile” to right field to increase the LSU lead to 4-0 after three innings.

In the top of the fourth inning, Alabama got on the board with a solo homer to cut the lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU loaded the bases before [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] was hit by a pitch to increase the lead to 5-1. Morgan and Crews were both walked to make it 7-1 Tigers after six innings.

Skenes’ night was finished after six innings. His final line was 6.0 innings pitched as he gave up one run on five hits and nine strikeouts. [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] was brought into the game in relief.

In the bottom of the seventh, LSU extended their lead to 8-1 on a sacrifice groundout. Alabama trimmed the LSU lead to 8-2 after an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning. Herring stayed in to pitch the ninth inning but Alabama chased him from the mound after the Tide cut the lead to 8-5 and the tying run came up to the plate. [autotag]Bryce Collins[/autotag] entered the game to try and get the final out. Collins was greeted with an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-6. He then struck out the next hitter to secure the win.

With the win, LSU moves to 33-8 overall and 13-5 in conference play. LSU will take on Alabama in Game 2 Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT.
