Auburn hosting several top recruits for California game

As Auburn takes on California on Saturday, the Tigers will host some of the nation’s top recruits in the 2025 and 2026 classes at the game

Auburn football hosts the California Golden Bears on Saturday in the return game of a home-and-home series which saw the Tigers win the first matchup 14-10 in 2023.

Auburn home games have become a hot commodity for recruits to attend throughout the season, and this Saturday’s game is proving to be no different as head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is in the midst of many recruiting battles for both the classes of 2025 and 2026.

Two of the most notable recruits in attendance will be a Notre Dame quarterback commit [autotag]Deuce Knight[/autotag] and Tennessee wide receiver commit [autotag]Travis Smith[/autotag].

According to the On3 industry rankings, both players are rated as four-stars in the 2025 class, but the Tigers are doing whatever they can to try and flip these talented prospects. That is especially true for Knight as this his second straight week on the Plains.

2026 EDGE [autotag]Anthony Jones[/autotag] from St. Paul’s Episcopal (Ala.) will also be in attendance this weekend as the lone five-star of the group. He is ranked as the No. 7 player in his class while also being the No. 1 overall EDGE and player in the state of Alabama.

Amongst the other 2026 targets that will be there are four-stars in linebacker [autotag]Anthony Davis[/autotag], running back [autotag]Carsyn Baker[/autotag] and quarterback [autotag]Luke Fahey[/autotag].

Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class is currently ranked at No. 5 in the nation with an average class score of 92.14. The 2026 class is also on the rise, being No. 3 in the country with an rating of 92.79.

The Tigers hope that a win can help rise their status amongst some of these athletes and possibly earn a commitment in the near future.

Auburn’s game against Cal is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CST in Jordan-Hare Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Auburn appears to be ‘out of contention’ for four-star WR Travis Smith

The longtime Auburn target will announce his commitment this week. Can Auburn make one final push?

Auburn football was near the top of four-star wide receiver [autotag]Travis Smith[/autotag]’s list for quite some time. However, the Tigers now look to be out of the running.

In a recent interview with Chad Simmons of On3, the wide receiver from Atlanta shared that he will choose between three schools on Saturday, July 13. The bad news for Auburn is that Smith is no longer considering them.

“Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee are the schools in contention and I am still working to make the final decision between those three,” Smith said in an interview with On3. “All three have a lot I like, and I feel I can be successful at each, so I still have a lot to figure out in the next few days.”

Smith says he will go with his gut on Saturday when selecting a college home between Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. Georgia looks to be the team to beat for Smith according to experts from On3 and 247Sports. However, Tennessee has a small chance to win the race for Smith according to Dawgs247 staff writer Ben Wolk.

Smith says that relationships with the coaching staff and track record of sending players to the NFL stands out the most when he thinks of Georgia.

“I have special relationships with Kirby Smart and (wide receivers coach) James Coley,” Smith said. “I have extensive relationships with many people at Georgia and their track record with offensive production, yards per game and getting guys drafted has always stood out.”

Smith is a four-star rated wide receiver according to all major recruiting outlets. He is the No. 10 wide receiver from the 2025 class according to On3 and is the No. 8 overall recruit from Georgia. Auburn’s next chance of signing a wide receiver to its 2025 class is four-star wide receiver [autotag]Daylyn Upshaw[/autotag], who has a 35% chance to commit to Auburn according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Kentucky pitcher Travis Smith has entered the transfer portal

Pitcher Travis Smith will transfer from Kentucky baseball for 2025 season.

Kentucky baseball had its spectacular season ended by the Florida Gators at the College World Series. Inevitably, as the season ends, players start to make decisions about their futures. One of the Wildcats pitchers, Travis Smith, has elected to transfer.

In his first season with Kentucky, Smith started 13 games and had 4.84 ERA, which made him a lock to start 2024 in the rotation. This season, though, after six starts, he was replaced and moved to the bullpen. For the year, he had a 6.38 ERA.

Smith has eligibility remaining, but many believe he could choose to head to the pros. He is considered a good prospect, as high as the top 100 by some. If not, there will be plenty of programs looking to add him.

The Wildcats rotation is certain to look different in 2025, with Smith transferring and Trey Pooser moving on. Fans will be interested to see how it plays out.

Four-star wide receiver Travis Smith ranks Auburn ‘up there’ following visit

Auburn hosted the Atlanta native for an official visit over the weekend, where they received a boost.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] may have brought in one of the school’s most talented wide receiver classes ever in 2024, but that isn’t stopping Auburn’s head coach from continuing his pursuit of talented pass catchers.

The most recent receiver to visit Auburn, four-star Georgia native [autotag]Travis Smith[/autotag], came away from the Plains saying his visit last weekend “was awesome.”

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect from Atlanta stayed in the Loveliest Village from Friday to Sunday last weekend and had plenty of questions for the Auburn staff. He reportedly left with most of those queries answered.

“They went down the whole scope of things. All the answers I didn’t have before, now I have them,” Smith said in an interview with Auburn Live following his visit.

While his visit went well, the high school senior is not ready to make a decision just yet, although he ranks Auburn “up there” on his list. He still has visits to SEC rivals Alabama and Tennessee on his itinerary before he plans to make a decision on July 13. The four-star receiver also visited Georgia back in May.

Despite the looming visits to powerhouse programs, Smith’s words about the Auburn program should give Tiger fans some optimism heading into the summer.

“The visit helped a bunch,” Smith said. “They are up there. They got up there, let me tell you that. With Auburn, I can really tell that this is a really family-oriented town, community and team. They all just come together and you can feel the family.”

If he were to commit, an already talented offense would get another weapon.
