Michigan State has picked up a new DE transfer

He has had 13 tackles in his two year career, and will bring 3 years of eligibility to East Lansing.

Jones comes to the Spartans to reunite with Chad Wilt, who previously was Indiana’s DC, but is now MSU’s rush ends coach.

Michigan State will continue to look to improve the roster in the portal.

Four-star athlete, projected running back Daune Morris commits to USC

USC is getting some offensive recruits to balance out its defensive recruits.

It’s another recruiting win for new USC running backs coach Anthony Jones Jr. Jones and Lincoln Riley have to be really happy today. They have landed four-star running back and athlete Daune Morris from Chattanooga.

Jones coached at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and is from Chattanooga. He developed a connection with Morris while he was coaching at TCU.

Morris ran for 2,012 yards last season, adding 565 receiving yards and scoring 36 total touchdowns.

Morris is rated the No. 428 overall prospect and the No. 23 athlete, according to the 247Sports composite. He is the No. 63 athlete in the 247Sports rankings. He also plays safety but is fully expected to play running back at USC under Lincoln Riley. Morris gives USC even more depth in the running back room, something the Trojans will need when they move to the Big Ten Conference and play a more rugged style of football than what we have seen in the Pac-12.

Morris picked USC over Auburn, Missouri, Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Tennessee,  and Wake Forest among many others.

New USC running back coach Anthony Jones Jr. knows how to beat Michigan

Anthony Jones’ TCU team rushed for 263 yards in a 51-point explosion versus Michigan in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl.

As you likely know by now, the USC Trojans hired TCU Horned Frog running backs coach Anthony Jones Jr. to the same position. Jones worked with TCU for the last two seasons. One obvious point on the resume which stands out about Jones: He was part of a coaching staff which defeated Jim Harbaugh and Michigan in a College Football Playoff semifinal. With USC moving to the Big Ten, being able to beat Michigan is a real plus for any coach Lincoln Riley brings aboard.

Jones’ 2023 team at TCU was ranked No. 11 in the nation in total offense (466.7), led by Emani Bailey, who was No. 20 in the nation in rushing yards (1,209) and No. 14 in rushing yards per game (100.8).

In 2022, Jones worked side-by-side with former TCU offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and helped to coach the Horned Frogs to the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game. The Frogs scored 51 points on Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl, with lead running back Emari Demercado rushing for 150 yards on just 17 carries. TCU ran for 263 yards against Michigan’s defense. You think that won’t get USC fans excited when they face Michigan in September of 2024?

Prior to his two-year stint at TCU, Jones was the running backs coach at Memphis, where he worked for four seasons and developed NFL running backs such as Kenneth Gainwell, Antonio Gibson, Darrell Henderson Jr. and Tony Pollard.

Report: Linebacker Anthony Jones expected to enter the portal

Anthony Jones is the latest Oregon Duck to enter the transfer portal.

According to a report form Matt Zenitz of On3.com, Oregon Ducks redshirt freshman linebacker Anthony Jones is expected to leave the program and enter the transfer portal.

It’s just another hit to the linebacker depth chart for the Ducks, as they’ve seen players such as Keith Brown and Justin Flowe already leave and find new homes.

Jones wasn’t expected to be a big part of the 2023 season as Oregon has linebackers Jeffrey Bassa, Jestin Jacobs, Jamal Hill along with unproven players like Devon Jackson, Harrison Taggart, and Elijah Williams already looking to make an impact.

Jones was one of the top athletes in Nevada when he was recruited from the 2021 before coming to Oregon where he utilized his redshirt season last year.

Alabama offers in-state, 2026 LB Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones

College programs have already begun to recruit 2026 linebacker, Anthony Jones. On Wednesday, he received an offer from Alabama.

Alabama rarely extends offers to high school freshmen. However, one prospect that has earned an offer is 2026 linebacker Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones. His nickname is indicative of his performance on the field as well.

Jones tallied 130 tackles, 15 sacks, and two interceptions during his freshman campaign. In his freshman highlights, he flashes a lot of upside. His ability to play both off the edge and in the box will separate him from the other prospects in his recruiting class. He runs well from sideline to sideline and plays with great instincts.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down the recruiting profile for the 2026 linebacker.

Texas lands commitment from 2022 three-star ATH Anthony Jones

Three-star athlete Anthony Jones announced his commitment to Texas on Saturday.

New defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski is already capitalizing off the recruiting weekend extravaganza.

After hosting over 20 players over the weekend, the Longhorns landed their first commitment after the visit.

Anthony Jones, a 2022 three-star athlete out of Las Vegas, Nevada, loved his experience on the Forty Acres enough to announce his commitment to Texas on Saturday over Oregon and Miami. He was once committed to University of Washington but decommitted in February.

Jones measures in at 6-foot-5, 240-pounds and is expected to play linebacker for the Longhorns. Texas’ 2022 class is now ranked No. 8 in the nation by 247Sports after Jones’ commitment.

The Sark Train is rolling, and it very well could start going full steam ahead in the recruiting world.

Seahawks waive cornerback Brian Allen and running back Anthony Jones

The Seattle Seahawks waived cornerback Brian Allen and running back Anthony Jones, bringing the current roster down to 77 players.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a pair of roster moves on Monday, waiving running back Anthony Jones and cornerback Brian Allen to bring their roster size down to 77.

Jones, an undrafted free agent out of Florida International University, made headlines in 2018 after overcoming severe gunshot injuries. He was considered a long shot to make the Seahawks roster in a position group that includes Chris Carson, Carlos Hyde, and Travis Homer, as well as Rashaad Penny – once the latter is activated from the PUP list.

Allen was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft and appeared in 16 games over the past two seasons with Pittsburgh. He spent the majority of 2019 on Seattle’s practice squad. With Allen’s removal, the team still has 11 cornerbacks on the roster.

The Seahawks now have three open roster spots due to Monday’s cuts and the placement of wide receiver John Ursua on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Why FIU RB Anthony Jones could make Seahawks roster

Anthony Jones fought through a nearly fatal drive by shooting in 2018, and now he’s looking to fight his way onto the Seahawks roster.

The Seattle Seahawks brought in a whopping 17 undrafted free agents from the 2020 class to compete for spots on the active roster.

Most years, teams are lucky to get one UDFA to make the squad, as they are primarily brought in to give the team extra bodies during training camp.

However, the Seahawks have had plenty of luck in the past, going all the way back to Dave Krieg, and including Jermaine Kearse, Doug Baldwin and more recently, defensive tackle Poona Ford.

Yesterday, we took a look at Patrick Carr’s chances of making the roster, noting he could get an opportunity if Penny is sidelined into the regular season, or if any other running backs end up on the shelf.

However, he’d have to beat out Seattle’s other undrafted free agent running back, Anthony Jones, who like Carr is a short, stockier power back.

Jones fits Seattle’s bill not just as a running back, but as a man who has undergone tremendous personal hardship to get where he is today. Jones was the victim of a drive-by shooting in September of 2018, forcing him to be hospitalized for weeks.

He ended up missing seven weeks but managed to fight his way back onto the field later that season, and returned for his senior year to rush for 867 yards and nine touchdowns.

Now, he’ll compete alongside Carr and the rest of Seattle’s running back room, including Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas, for a role on the Seahawks in 2020.

Realistically, barring multiple injuries, Carr and Jones are likely battling for one spot on the practice squad. Both players are of similar build and had success at the collegiate level, so how they look between the tackles in training camp will go a long way toward determining who gets to stick around once September rolls around.

A look at Seahawks running back room after Carlos Hyde signing

The Seattle Seahawks have an abundance of running backs after signing Carlos Hyde, but after last year’s injuries, they are playing it safe.

The Seattle Seahawks began the offseason with a perilous running back situation, following the season-ending injuries suffered by Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise near the end of the 2019 season.

Prosise is gone, along with Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin – who were both signed as emergency depth in December – which leaves Seattle with Carson and Penny as well as second-year back Travis Homer from last year.

Seattle shored up some depth by selecting DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft, and they added even more depth by signing Carlos Hyde to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million for 2020.

So – now the Seahawks have five players (Carson, Penny, Hyde, Homer and Dallas) all competing for snaps at tailback, with Nick Bellore still on the roster at fullback and a pair of undrafted free agents, Patrick Carr and Anthony Jones, in the running as well.

The biggest question, which will remain unknown until training camp opens, is the health of Penny. All signs point to Carson, who had surgery on his hip in December, returning to 100 percent health by the time things open back up again.

However, there have been rumblings that Penny, who tore his ACL, will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and even some concern that could spill into the regular season if he does not get any time during the preseason to get his legs under him.

That would certainly help explain the Hyde signing, as he would be a more than capable No. 2 running back to Carson while Penny is out. How the team will handle the trio when Penny is healthy remains to be seen, and it sure looks like Homer, who filled in admirably late last season, has been relegated to special teams duties once again, this time alongside Dallas, who may have a hard time even staying on the roster once Penny is healthy.

Of course, Seattle saw firsthand what happens when a team doesn’t have enough running back depth, or when they all manage to get hurt at once, so they will do their best to have everyone ready to step up as needed this season – and they’ll almost certainly have Beast Mode on speed dial.
