This 4-star safety sets return visit date to Florida in April

After getting a Junior Day offer from Florida, this stand-out safety looks to return to campus next month.

College football recruiting action has heated up in March following the end of the previous dead period and the Florida Gators have put the pedal to the metal in their efforts to field a winning team in the Swamp. Now that the floodgates are open, [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his staff are working tirelessly while the iron is still hot.

While this month’s schedule is packed to the brim with visitors, those numbers also spill over into April when the Orange and Blue are slated to get four-star safety [autotag]Travaris Banks[/autotag] back on campus. The 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound defensive back told Swamp247 on Friday that he plans on returning to Gainesville on April 8 after making a stop making a stop back in January.

Following Banks’ Junior Day visit that ended with him receiving a scholarship offer, the high school junior noted that Florida was among his top three schools so far.

“I would say they are one of my top schools,” he told 247Sports. “I would say them (Florida), Florida State, Tennessee are doing a good job with me.

“I liked the environment, the new facility they had, and they went through a lot of things with me. I got to see a demonstration of how things go in their weight room and how they do their meal prep for their players. I got to watch some film of how they do their practices and got to tour places where they do their academics and schoolwork too.”

Former safeties coach [autotag]Patrick Toney[/autotag] had previously led the charge for the young man’s talents, but now that he has departed for the NFL, assistant head coach and secondary coach [autotag]Corey Raymond[/autotag] is presumed in charge of his recruitment. The visit in April will give him a chance to acclimate with Raymond as well as new defensive coordinator [autotag]Austin Armstrong[/autotag].

Banks is ranked No. 126 overall and No. 9 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking also has him at Nos. 121 and 12, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has the Alabama Crimson Tide ahead of the pack for the defensive back’s talents with a 30.3% chance of signing him, while the Ole Miss Rebels, Florida State Seminoles and Auburn Tigers follow behind at 20.1%, 17.2% and 9.7%, respectively.

This 4-star safety has Florida football in top three

After visiting Florida for a January Junior Day, four-star safety Travaris Banks is high on the Gators.

Florida hosted four-star Northridge (Alabama) safety [autotag]Travaris Banks[/autotag] in January, and his Junior Day visit ended with an offer from the Gators.

Banks has been talking to Florida for a while now, but he finally got to meet his recruiters in person on this visit. Safeties coach Patrick Toney has been his main contact at the university, and he spent plenty of time with him during the trip, according to 247Sports. He also spent time with coach Kali James during the visit.

They spent time looking at Florida’s defensive scheme and figuring out where Banks would fit best. Toney likes him as an aggressive safety instead of at the STAR. When practices start in March, Banks his hoping to get back to Gainesville to see more of Florida’s defense in action.

Banks holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Maryland, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M. The On3 recruiting prediction machine currently favors the Crimson Tide with 33.8% odds to land Banks and Ole Miss is in second with 22.3% odds, but he named a different top three recently.

“I would say they are one of my top schools,” he said. “I would say them (Florida), Florida State, Tennessee are doing a good job with me.”

His plan is to commit on June 18 after taking some official visits in April and May. With the 2023 cycle just wrapping up, Banks has just under a year to decide, though.

The 247Sports composite ranks Banks at No. 176 overall and No. 13 among safeties in the 2024 recruiting class. The On3 consensus is even higher on him at No. 152 nationally and No. 12 among those in his position group.

Gators to get initial visit from this 2024 Under Armour All-American

We’re currently mired in the quiet period but Billy Napier and Co. are ready to strike when it ends.

College football recruiting is currently in the midst of one of its dead periods in which teams and recruits are unable to meet face-to-face until the end of the restricted time frame. However, once that short stretch elapses, it is once again fair game for the top prep prospects to pay a visit to the programs of their choice.

While the calendar flips over to the new year, the current dead period runs from Dec. 19 to Jan. 12 — with the exception of the “seven days immediately before the first day of classes of the institution’s second academic term that are not part of the contact period,” which is applicable only to prospective student-athletes who intend to enroll midyear.

Among those at the forefront of Billy Napier and Florida football’s recruiting efforts once the period ends is four-star safety [autotag]Travaris Banks[/autotag] out of Tuscaloosa (Alabama) Northridge, who has set a visit on campus for Jan. 21 according to his announcement on Twitter. The 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound defensive back is also being pursued by the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, Auburn Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tennessee Volunteers and Florida State Seminoles, among other schools.

While the aforementioned schools have extended offers to the high school junior, the Gators have yet to commit to signing Banks. But that could all change after his visit.

Banks is ranked No. 176 overall and No. 13 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 152 and 12, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has ‘Bama out front early for his talents with a 44% chance of landing him with Ole Miss in second place at 29.1%.
