Alabama Baseball lands Ivy league transfer pitcher Carson Ozmer

The Alabama baseball team received a commitment for the ’24 recruiting class from Penn transfer pitcher Carson Ozmer.

On Tuesday, the Alabama baseball team received some promising news regarding the future of the program. Penn transfer pitcher Carson Ozmer announced his commitment to Alabama. Interestingly enough, Ozmer will finish out his senior season at Penn before making the transition to Alabama.

In three seasons with the Quakers, Ozmer has accumulated a 2-2 record with a 2.09 ERA. Opponents have amassed a .192 batting average against Ozmer over the course of three years.

Ozmer was named an All-Ivy League Honorable Mention following his junior season. In 34 appearances, Ozmer held a 1.83 ERA while striking out 35 batters and allowing just 24 hits.

The addition of Ozmer will be a good addition to help bolster the Crimson Tide coaching staff. The dynamics of the roster are unclear at this time, so it is good to have a proven pitcher on board for the 2025 season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama baseball program.

Where did former Alabama players transfer this offseason?

There were multiple starters and other reserves that transferred from the Alabama football program this offseason. Roll Tide Wire takes a look at where each of the players transferred.

There has been a lot of turnover among Alabama’s roster in recent years as a result of the transfer portal. Since the conclusion of the 2022 season, Alabama has seen 18 scholarship players enter the transfer portal. 17 out of the 18 scholarship players that transferred have found a home.

The majority of the players that entered the portal were backups. However, there were a few starters among the group. Needless to say, it was quite interesting to see where each of the transfers ended up. A handful of the transfers found homes at other SEC programs. Others found homes at other major programs across the nation.

The Alabama softball team received some good news on Wednesday afternoon as Samford transfer outfielder Kinley Pate will be transferring to Alabama after spending one season with the Bulldogs.

Pate, a native of Northport, Alabama, held a .523 batting average with four home runs and 25 runs batted in during her senior season. Following the season, she was named a First Team All-State selection.

Pate made 7 starts for Samford during her freshman season. She amassed a .143 batting average. Pate did have a .308 on-base percentage, however.

Alabama MBB officially adds NDSU transfer Grant Nelson to the roster

Grant Nelson officially joins Alabama MBB program

Nate Oats and the Alabama basketball program have had a busy off-season to this point in the summer. From losing all three assistant coaches to head coaching opportunities to the departures of Brandon Miller, Noah Clowney, Charles Bediako, Jaden Bradley, Amari Burnett and even Javon Quinerly the Crimson Tide will look quite different in 2023-2024.

Fortunately, the Tide hit an absolute home run in the transfer portal by landing North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson. It had been speculated for a few weeks that Nelson was headed to Tuscaloosa, but now all Alabama fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it is finally official. Nelson went through the NBA draft process but ultimately decided to return to college and wanted an opportunity to showcase his talents on the big stage in college basketball.

Nelson is a 6’11 senior who will likely fill in the power forward position that Noah Clowney was awesome in. As a junior with the Bison, Nelson averaged 17.9 PPG, 9.3 RPG and 2.1 APG. Nelson is a massive addition to the Tide, especially offensively and he will have a chance to play himself into a future first-round draft pick.

Potential transfer options for Alabama to replace Jahvon Quinerly

With Alabama losing guard Jahvon Quinerly to the transfer portal on Sunday, Roll Tide Wire looks at several available transfer options for the Crimson Tide to fill Quinerly’s spot.

The Alabama coaching staff will have its work cut out for it following Jahvon Quinerly’s decision to enter the transfer portal.

Quinerly was a clutch player for the Crimson Tide in postseason play. He was one of the key reasons Alabama won SEC championships in 2021 and 2023.

With his departure, the coaching staff could look in a variety of directions. As it stands, Alabama has 10 scholarship players for next year’s roster. North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson is expected to commit to Alabama in the near future pending something unforeseen. That would give Alabama 11 scholarship players with two spots remaining.

The likelihood of the coaching staff filling both roster spots is low, however, given the level of talent available in the transfer portal. There is an increased chance Alabama adds one more transfer to the roster before preparing for next season.

Roll Tide Wire lists some of the potential transfers available that could replace Quinerly for the 2023-2024 season.

Alabama relief pitcher Kade Woods transferring to SEC rival, LSU

Alabama relief pitcher Kade Woods announced that he was transferring to LSU on Friday via Twitter.

Alabama relief pitcher Kade Woods announced that he was transferring to LSU on Friday. Woods made the news official by posting the news to his Twitter account.

Woods spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa. He redshirted his first season and pitched in 17 games as a redshirt freshman. Woods had a 4-1 record with a 5.52 ERA. In 29.1 innings pitched, Woods struck out 38 batters and allowed 23 hits.

With Woods’ departure, Alabama has lost two players from a season ago to SEC rivals. Third baseman Colby Shelton announced his decision to transfer to Florida on Thursday. Both Shelton and Woods made the decision to transfer closer to home. Shelton is a native of Lithia, Florida. Woods is a native of Monroe, Louisiana.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama baseball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Top 5 transfers Oklahoma Sooners will face in 2023

Who are the top transfer additions the Oklahoma Sooners will face in 2023?

The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh. This statement has been true for everyone across the country even the University of Oklahoma.

The Sooners added Rondell Bothriyd and Dasan McCullough, but just a year ago lost Caleb Williams and Mario Williams. The portal has been good to Oklahoma, but it has been good to Oklahoma’s opponents as well.

The transfer portal has provided programs the opportunity to retool on the fly in the face of losses from the previous season.

SoonerScoop (subscription required) released an article on Saturday discussing the best transfer addition for OU opponents for the 2023 season.

This got me thinking, who are the five best transfer additions the Sooners will face this season.

Former Tennessee RB Len’Neth Whitehead transferring to Georgia

Former Tennessee, Athens Academy RB Len’Neth Whitehead is transferring home to UGA

Former Tennessee Volunteers running back Len’Neth Whitehead plans to transfer to the University of Georgia. Whitehead missed both the 2020 and 2022 college football seasons with injuries. In 2021, the former four-star recruit had 32 carries for 207 rushing yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. Whitehead has one career reception for 10 yards.

Whitehead provides depth for the Georgia running back room, which is banged up.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound running back may not be immediately eligible at Georgia. He could be a walk-on. Whitehead has three years of eligibility remaining, but he may not be able to suit up for the Bulldogs in 2023 because he is transferring within the conference and it is beyond the deadline for that. Whitehead entered the transfer portal in December.

Bryan Lynn-USA TODAY Sports

Whitehead played high school football at Athens Academy. Whitehead was the No. 143 recruit in the class of 2020, per 247Sports. Whitehead played both linebacker and running back in high school, but became a running back in college. Now, he returns home to Athens.

Whitehead missed the 2022 season with an upper body injury.

Whitehead is a taller running back. He has good speed and power. The Athens native is a good blocker, too. Here’s a look at highlights from his 2021 college football season:
