15 free agent offensive linemen the Seahawks could consider signing

Here are 15 free agents who could be on the Seahawks’ list.

Seahawks general manager John Schenider told ESPN 710 radio last week that the team would be hosting a couple veteran free agent offensive linemen in this second phase of free agency. Schneider was not so kind as to include the names of the players who will be visiting the VMAC, presumably some time this week.

While we don’t know who, we can make some educated guesses. Based on what their roster looks like right now, we can probably assume the team is interested primarily in interior offensive linemen who have at least a few years of experience playing in the NFL.

For one thing, the team is already set at tackle with Charles Cross, Abe Lucas, Stone Forsythe, George Fant and Raiqwon O’Neal rounding out the OT rotation. So, we’ll ignore tackles for now. The team does have a couple of options at center. However, neither of them have much experience at this level. So, we’ll include a few names there, but focus mostly on guards who are at least 26 years old. With those parameters in mind, here are 15 free agents who could be on the Seahawks’ list.

The Ravens and Commanders squared off for their first of two joint practices Tuesday and the rivals didn’t hold back any intensity or physical play.

There were scuffles in the later portions of practice, and deep balls galore from star quarterback Lamar Jackson.

“That’s the bottom line; we got a lot of work done,” Harbaugh said. “Joint practices are a challenge, always, obviously, because you’ve got two teams out here, and there is a lot of pride. I thought it was a really good practice. We had a couple dust-ups, which you don’t want to see, but it’s not really unexpected. I thought they got handled pretty quickly.”

With Day 2 of practice set to begin shortly, here are takeaways and observations from Day 1.

Dennis Allen says Andrus Peat has quad injury, but not as severe as Trai Turner

Dennis Allen says starting left guard Andrus Peat has a quad injury, but doesn’t believe it is as severe as Trai Turner’s:

Things were going well for the New Orleans Saints during their first padded practice at training camp, with players embracing the physicality of a full-contact session without many injuries. Then starting left guard Andrus Peat walked himself to the locker room in obvious pain, with what Saints head coach Dennis Allen said after practice is a quadriceps injury.

“One injury to note is Andrus Peat, he is a quad, we’ll take a look at that and see where he’s at. Other than that we made it out pretty healthy,” Allen shared in his opening statement.

Allen added that he doesn’t believe Peat’s injury is as severe as the one that ended Trai Turner’s season — saying that Turner suffered a torn tendon whereas the team believes Peat is dealing with just a strain. They’re optimistic that Peat will be able to return to practice, but that depends on what the medical team takes away from his evaluation and the prescribed treatment plan. He hadn’t missed a rep through the team’s first four practice sessions prior to Sunday’s day off.

It’s a good sign that Peat was able to walk himself to the locker room rather than required a trainer’s cart, as was the case for Turner. Muscle cramps and minor strains are common early in training camp as players’ bodies acclimate to the workload after a long summer off. Stay tuned for an update on Peat’s status.

Saints sign a familiar face to replace Trai Turner at guard

The Saints signed a familiar face to replace Trai Turner at guard, bringing back a veteran player they waived just before training camp started:

There’s the guard we were looking for: the New Orleans Saints brought back Koda Martin after waiving him before training camp to open a roster spot for Trai Turner. Turner, the five-time Pro Bowler competing for a backup spot on his hometown team, went down with a season-ending injury at Friday’s training camp session. Martin’s return was listed on the daily NFL transactions wire.

So Martin is returning to the same spot he held a few weeks ago. He’ll reenter the fray for one of the last available roster spots behind Cesar Ruiz and Andrus Peat, though it’s clear that guys like Calvin Throckmorton and Nick Saldiveri have a leg up on him. He needs to show the Saints they were wrong to release him in the first place and outwork youngsters like Lewis Kidd and Mark Evans II.

Here’s what we wrote of Martin when he first signed with New Orleans back in January:

“Martin, 29, hasn’t seen many reps in the NFL since signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent back in 2019, though he played a handful of snaps on the field goal units and at right guard for the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. He finished his collegiate career at Syracuse, where he started all 13 games at right tackle as a senior in 2018; that’s after transferring from Texas A&M, where he started at left tackle as a junior.”

Are the Saints finished making moves at guard? Maybe, maybe not. There are still free agents available they could sign to add more competition to the room, and if they’re unimpressed by the state of competition they could also call around the league and see which players are available for trades.
