Colorado Avalanche at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Avalanche at Maple Leafs NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The Toronto Maple Leafs (13-12-4) host the Colorado Avalanche (16-8-2) at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Avalanche-Maple Leafs odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Avalanche at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Philipp Grubauer vs. Frederik Andersen

Grubauer is confirmed to start and has a 9-5-2 record with a 2.86 goals against average and .911 save percentage. Grubauer has won two straight starts, giving up four goals on 49 total shots faced in those games.

Andersen is projected to start and has a 13-6-3 record with a 2.58 GAA and .917 SV%. The Toronto goaltender suffered through a tough outing Tuesday night, allowing five goals on 28 shots in a 6-1 loss to Philadelphia.

Avalanche at Maple Leafs: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline (ML)

The AVALANCHE (+105) is a solid bet. Toronto is not rested and is just 1-6 on the back end of back-to-backs. Colorado, on the other hand, has the luxury of starting a rested Grubauer. Toronto is also just 4-6 in its last 10 games and has allowed 16 goals in its last five games. Side with Colorado here.

A $10 bet with Colorado results in a $10.50 profit with an outright win for the Avalanche.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Maple Leafs are 11-18 ATS, 29th in the NHL. This game is just too close to call and the (-250 / +200) spread at plus- or minus-1.5 goals is too steep. The Avalanche are 17-9 ATS. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+100) is worth a modest play. The Over has connected in three consecutive matchups between these teams, with an average of eight goals scored per contest. In their last five games, the Avalanche have averaged 4.2 goals per game while the Maple Leafs have averaged 3.6 over their last five. Hence the over is the play here.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a $10 profit with a total of seven or more goals scored.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (13-11-4) head down to Philadelphia to face the Philadelphia Flyers (15-7-5) at Wells Fargo Center Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Flyers odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Carter Hart

Andersen is confirmed to start and has a 13-5-3 record with a 2.47 goals against average and .921 save percentage. Andersen has won four straight starts and allowed just one goal on 55 total shots faced over his last two outings.

Hart has a 8-5-3 record with a 2.44 GAA and .906 SV%. The Philadelphia goaltender performed great in his last two games while allowing one goal in each game and most importantly getting the win.

Maple Leafs at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 2:45 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline (ML)

The FLYERS (+100) are an even-money bet. Both teams last played Saturday but the Maple Leafs are playing the first half of a back-to-back. Philadelphia has won four straight contests and Toronto’s Andersen has also won four consecutive games. Philadelphia has lost only once in regulation in 13 home contests with eight wins. The Flyers’ moneyline is what we are backing Tuesday night.

A $10 bet with Philadelphia results in a $10 profit with an outright win for the Flyers.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Maple Leafs are 11-17 against the spread which is 28th in the NHL. Even with the return of Mitch Marner, this game is too close to call. The Flyers are 16-11 ATS. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+125) is worth a tiny play. The Over has connected in three of their last four head-to-head matchups. In those four games, the teams combined for 34 goals (8.5 per contest). In their last five games, the Maple Leafs have scored four goals per game while the Flyers have averaged 3.4 goals per contest. It is why we are backing the Over Tuesday night.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a $12.50 profit with a total of seven or more goals scored.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (9-11-4) take a 90-minute drive into the USA to face the Buffalo Sabres (8-10-4) at KeyBank Center Friday at 4 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Sabres odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Sabres: Projected starting goalies

Michael Hutchinson vs. Carter Hutton

Hutchinson is confirmed to start for the Maple Leafs. He has an 0-4-1 record with a 4.44 goals against average and .879 save percentage. His previous four starts have seen him give up four or more goals while facing 30-plus shots each outing.

Hutton has a .903 SV% and 2.91 GAA. He has also given up four or more goals in each of his last four starts (0-3-1 in that span).

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Sabres 4

Moneyline (ML)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-167) are a different team with Sheldon Keefe as head coach. Now, they will be tested in this rare matinee tilt with Hutchinson back between the pipes. Buffalo is in a bit of freefall and Hutton is also struggling of late. Toronto has a little more offense with a rejuvenated Tyson Barrie helping from the blueline. Take the Maple Leafs.

A $10 bet with Toronto results in a $5.99 profit with an outright win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Risking a tiny wager on the Maple Leafs (-1.5, +180) would seem to be a good play. It is a big profit in the making but Buffalo could score enough to force this game into overtime. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+115) is a good play. Three of the last four head-to-head meetings have connected on the Over with one push.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor an $11.50 profit with a total of seven or more goals scored.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (11-10-4) and Detroit Red Wings (7-16-3) hook up in an Original Six renewal of acquaintances Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Hockeytown. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Maple Leafs at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Jimmy Howard

Andersen carries an 11-5-2 mark, 2.68 goals against average and .916 save percentage into battle. One of those wins came at LCA back on Oct. 12 when the Danish tendie stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in a 5-2 victory.

Howard was on the receiving end of the 5-2 beating back on Oct. 12, coughing up four goals on 40 shots. One of those goals allowed went to Maple Leafs C Alexander Kerfoot, but Howard needn’t worry about the ex-Avalanche pivot, as Kerfoot is suspended for this one.

Maple Leafs at Red Wings: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 3:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-209) are heavy favorites in this one, but they simply cannot be trusted at this price point. Yes, they have shown some jump under new bench boss Sheldon Keefe, winning two in a row at Arizona and at Colorado, but they’re still too risky even against the cellar-dwelling Red Wings (+170). Look to the puck line instead.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +135) are anything but a sure thing. However, if you’re looking for value, the Leafs catching plus-money to win by two or more goals is the spot. They outscored the Coyotes and Avalanche 8-4 in two games under Keefe, winning each game by two goals. Those who bet only the moneyline in the past two outings left money on the table.

Over/Under (O/U)

The line on the UNDER 6.5 (-139) is slightly inflated. The Leafs are still without Mitch Marner (ankle), and Andersen has been a beacon of hope for the Leafs. The Red Wings have a strong offense with a bright future, but they have had their hands full with the Leafs. The Under is 9-3-1 in the past 13 meetings in Detroit, too. This won’t be a defensive slog, but won’t be mistaken as fire wagon hockey, either.

Maple Leafs-Golden Knights odds: Vegas favored vs. slumping Toronto

Previewing Tuesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Vegas Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips

The Toronto Maple Leafs (9-9-4) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (10-9-3) Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena for a 10 p.m. ET puck drop. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Golden Knights odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Marc-Andre Fleury

Andersen, who is on a three-game skid, is 9-4-3 with a 2.74 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. He stopped 30 of 33 shots in his last start, a 4-2 home loss to the Boston Bruins Friday. His last win was actually against the Golden Knights, a 2-1 overtime squeaker at home when he stopped 37 of 38 shots Nov. 7.

Fleury is 10-5-1 with a 2.52 GAA and a .920 SV%. He shut out the Flames in his last start, stopping all 34 shots in a 6-0 home victory Sunday. The W snapped a two-game skid for Fleury, who did not play in the Nov. 7 loss at Toronto. Fleury has struggled against the Leafs recently, dropping his last three – he allowed six goals in a 6-3 loss last February.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 7:10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Golden Knights 5, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline (ML)

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS (-154) are the STRONGEST PLAY. Both teams have struggled lately, but the Knights ended a five-game losing streak with the Calgary win, while the Maple Leafs are on a current five-game skid. If the Knights’ ML was more expensive (above -190), I would have avoided or considered taking the Leafs (+125). But I’m going to back the Knights in this one, knowing first-hand that Vegas has one of the most enthusiastic home crowds in the league.

New to sports betting? Bet $15.40 to win $10 on a Vegas victory. Every $1.54 wagered that the Knights will win profits $1 if they do.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

AVOID. Both teams are 8-14 ATS. The Golden Knights (-1.5, +170) offer better value – every $1 wagered would profit $1.70 if they win by two goals or more. The Maple Leafs (+1.5, -209) are too costly – every $2.09 wagered would profit $1 if they win or lose by just a single goal.

Over/Under (O/U)

A slight lean to the OVER 6.5 (+110) – the Under price is -134. In the Maple Leafs’ last two visits to Sin City, the Over hit with both games finishing 6-3. Toronto is 13-8 O/U on the season, while Vegas is 11-10.

Maple Leafs-Penguins odds: Pittsburgh favored at home

Previewing the Toronto Maple Leafs at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-7-2) entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs (9-8-4) at PPG Paints Arena Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Penguins odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Kasimir Kaskisuo vs. Tristan Jarry

Kaskisuo is confirmed to get the start Saturday in Pittsburgh. This is his NHL debut for Toronto. He has a 6-1-1 record for Toronto with a 2.13 goals against average and .928 save percentage for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Jarry is expected to start for the Penguins. He is 1-3 with a 2.26 GAA and .929 SV%. Jarry took the loss (two goals on 14 shots) in his last appearance after Matt Murray got a quick hook in Boston. He has three quality starts in four outings.

Maple Leafs at Penguins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 3, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-115) are dealing with new line combinations due to injuries but defensively are playing better at home where they yield just 2.2 goals per game. Toronto may benefit from a little more defense being played which should keep them in this game.

It will be a somewhat slower-paced game at times because both teams played last night but Pittsburgh should squeeze out a win.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in an $8.70 profit with a Penguins’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Both teams are notoriously bad against the spread this year. Toronto is 8-13 and Pittsburgh is 7-12. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6.5 (-139) is a reasonable play Saturday night. That 6.5 number is rather high given both teams were in high-event games Friday. Pittsburgh pushed play particularly hard in the third period and was nearly rewarded (over 30 shot attempts alone). The result should mean five or six goals combined perhaps.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $7.19 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Bruins-Maple Leafs odds: Division rivals meet in Toronto

Previewing Friday’s Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks

The Boston Bruins (11-3-4) visit the rival Toronto Maple Leafs (9-7-4) at Scotiabank Arena Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

We analyze the Bruins-Maple Leafs odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Bruins at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Tuukka Rask vs. Frederik Andersen

Rask is confirmed to start. The goalie has a 7-2-2 record with a 2.16 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. Rask has come back to Earth allowing 12 goals in his last three starts.

Andersen, expected to start, is 9-3-3 with a 2.72 GAA and a .912 save percentage. Andersen seeks to rebound after having an off night against the New York Islanders Wednesday, giving up four goals on 29 shots.

Bruins at Maple Leafs: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:50 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Bruins 3

Moneyline (ML)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-115) is a bit less banged up than Boston (-106), though this is no automatic bet. Boston’s top line is still healthy and will get its points. It comes down to execution and Toronto’s top forwards still have enough speed to get by here and squeeze out a win.

It will be dicey and high-event, but take Toronto on the moneyline.

A $10 bet with Toronto results in an $8.70 profit with a Maple Leafs’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The problem here is the teams have a tendency to play mostly one-goal games as they did in Toronto. Boston won the last meeting 4-2 on a late empty-netter. Toronto has been playing a style that does not let it pull too far ahead. So, if the Leafs win, it will likely be one or two goals. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+115) is a modest, small play given how uncertain Boston’s depth looks after the Torey Krug injury. It makes an impact but forces the Bruins to go more on the offensive than usual. John Tavares and Auston Matthews should be able to create almost at will vs. Boston. The same goes for David Krejci and Boston’s top-six. Again, take the over!

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a nice $11.50 profit for a cover.

Maple Leafs-Islanders odds: Isles welcome Leafs, Johnny T

Previewing Wednesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at New York Islanders sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (9-6-4) and New York Islanders (12-3-1) tangle at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET, and the Isles fans will be ready for Toronto captain John Tavares. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Islanders sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Maple Leafs at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Semyon Varlamov

Andersen heads into Wednesday’s battle with a 9-2-2 record, 2.62 goals against average and .916 save percentage. He faced the Islanders just once last season, a 2-1 victory as the ‘Under’ easily connected.

Varlamov enters play with a 5-2-1 record, 2.37 GAA and .924 save percentage. He is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss last time out against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a setback coming off of a five-start winning streak. He has allowed three or fewer goals in five of the past six outings.

Maple Leafs at Islanders: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Islanders 5, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-134) dominated last season’s first meeting against former star Tavares, as the Long Island faithful treated their former star rudely and didn’t let up for the entire game. When the dust settled, the Maple Leafs (+110) were on the short end of a 6-1 score. They lost the second meeting, too, although they salvaged the season series and avoided the broom in the final battle.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The ISLANDERS (-1.5, +200) are worth a roll of the dice in this one, as you can double up your money ($20 profit on a $10 bet) if they win by two or more goals. While Andersen is 3-0-0 with a 1.95 GAA and .938 save percentage in three road games, he hasn’t faced a hostile environment and tough offense like he’ll face Wednesday.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-139) is a slam-dunk play, as this game should go well Over. The offenses for both teams have been on point lately, and the Isles have picked up points in 12 straight games. While their No. 1 in goals allowed at just 2.2 per game, they will be tested early and often by the young guns of the Leafs. Toronto is averaging 3.3 goals per game, and it’s allowing 3.2 goals per outing. Expect plenty of offense.
