  • The Saints enter the week as one of four 11-win teams in the NFC, so this is a very important game in their pursuit of home-field advantage in the postseason
  • The Titans are still very much alive for a wild-card spot in the AFC, but they need a win and the Steelers to lose.
  • New Orleans ranks ninth in total yards per game (373.3), seventh in passing yards (264.6 YPG) and sixth in points scored (27.0 PPG).
  • Defensively, the Saints rank fourth in the NFL with just 90.8 rushing yards per game allowed.
  • New Orleans is 25-8 ATS across the past 33 road games and 9-3 ATS in the past 12 overall. The Saints are also 26-12-1 ATS in the past 39 against teams with a winning record.
  • Tennessee is 4-1 ATS in the past five games overall, while going 3-1-1 ATS in the past five home outings. The Titans are just 2-5 ATS in the past seven against winning teams.

Prediction

Titans 26, Saints 24

Moneyline (?)

The TITANS (+115) should be playing with some desperation, while the Saints (-139) also have a ton on the line. This should be one of the better games of the Week 16 slate, coming right down to the end. Take the home side to pull it out.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the moneyline returns a $11.50 profit with a Tennessee victory.

Against the Spread (?)

The TITANS (+2.5, -106) are a better play on the moneyline, as it’s generally a good rule of thumb to bet the ML when dealing with ‘dogs of three or fewer points. However, if you want a little insurance with the home team, take the points.

Over/Under (?)

PASS. The total of 50.5 (Over -106, Under -115) is going to be awfully close. Save your money and find another game. This won’t be a defensive slog, but it also won’t be a track meet. Look for the total to come in right around 50 points, so this total is too close to call.

Texans will try to ‘build a wall’ to stop Titans RB Derrick Henry

The Houston Texans run-defense will try to “build a wall” to stop Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry on Sunday in NFL Week 15.

In the span of seven days, the Houston Texans will go from facing the 5-8, 185-pound Phillip Lindsay to the 6-3, 247-pound Derrick Henry, of the Tennessee Titans.

Lindsay and the Denver Broncos beat the Texans. He rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown in a 38-24 route that isn’t entirely depicted in the score. Despite the Broncos winning, Houston did a good job against Lindsay, as he rushed for 3.2 yards per attempt.

On Sunday, the Texans will look to limit Henry, just as they did to Lindsay. That’s easier said than done.

“He’s hard to stop. He is a big back, physical back. He’s a good player. He’s big, he’s physical, he’s got good vision,” said coach Bill O’Brien on Monday. “They throw him the ball out of the backfield, he’s hard to tackle.”

If the Texans were to, theoretically, limit Henry’s production, they would be the first since the Broncos in Week 6. Since Denver limited him to 28 rush yards on 15 attempts, Henry has tallied 827 ground yards and nine touchdowns on 137 attempts (6.0 yards per carry).

Henry has 1,243 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season while running for 5.0 yards per attempt. He also has 18 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns. A Heisman Trophy winner out of Alabama, the Titans’ bell-cow back is a nightmare to defend.

How will the Texans do so? By building a wall.

“You’ve got to set the edge and build a wall. That’s what we’re going to try to do,” said O’Brien.

With the thriving quarterback Ryan Tannehill under center and Henry running angrily, the Titans have won their last four and five of their previous six. If the Texans want to end their winning ways, stopping the run-game, via building a wall, will be one of their top priorities.

The Texans, before Monday Night Football, rank as the NFL’s 18th-best run defense, allowing 109.5 yards per game.

AFC Playoff Picture heading into Week 14

The AFC playoff picture got a little bit more interesting with the Patriots loss. There are races for the AFC East, South, and Wild Cards.

It might be time to talk about the Patriots but we will know more after this week against the Chiefs. It’s definitely time to talk about the Ravens and how they’ve looked like an unstoppable force. Even with the Texans’ impressive victory, there’s a challenger lurking in the South. The AFC West is still the Chiefs to lose.

AFC East

New England Patriots 10-2

New England had to go 2-2 in their stretch of games that started with the Eagles and ended with the Chiefs. That’s exactly what was said last week. It still stands. Of course, winning against Kansas City is probably in their best interest. They still have the inside track at winning the AFC East, but a victory against the Chiefs may also assure them a bye.

Remaining Schedule: Chiefs, @Bengals, Bills, Dolphins

Buffalo Bills 9-3

The Bills have a legit shot at winning the AFC East. Of course, they will have to beat the Ravens and Steelers first and then beat the Patriots in New England. They could enter Week 17 needing a win to get to the playoffs.

Remaining Schedule: Ravens, @Steelers, @Patriots, Jets

6 teams sitting at 7-5 or worse that could make a push to the playoffs

Let me start this off by saying that any of these teams making the playoffs is unlikely. They have to be perfect — or near-perfect — from here on out. Then again, that’s why we watch football. We watch because something crazy tends to happen every season. If the rest of the season played out how we currently think it will, that’s pretty boring. So let’s talk about the teams that could make things exciting.

Titans are favorites over Raiders ahead of Sunday matchup

The Titans are favored to leave with the win by a point spread of (-2.5), according to Bet MGM.

The Tennessee Titans (7-5) are looking very much like a team that could edge its way into the playoffs after recording a 31-17 win over the visiting Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.

With the victory, the Titans have now won three games in a row, and will look to extend that streak to four as they face the Oakland Raiders (6-6) this week on the road.

The Titans are favored to leave with the win by a point spread of (-2.5), according to Bet MGM.

The Raiders have hardly had the same type of momentum as the Titans have held lately, dropping their past two consecutive contests.

[lawrence-related id=23120]

Oakland has scored just 12 combined points in two games, recording a 40-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, and falling 34-3 to the New York Jets in the week prior to that.

While the Titans could have their quarterback of the future in Ryan Tannehill, things couldn’t be much different at the position for the Raiders.

Quarterback Derek Carr is likely playing for his job at this point, and this game could ultimately end up being the deciding factor.

Carr has been met with plenty of criticism, including after he went 20-of-30 passing for 222 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against Kansas City.

The Titans and Raiders are set to kick off at 3:25 p.m. CT on Sunday in Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Titans at Colts: Week 13 preview, betting trends and notes

  • The Titans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games, but just 6-5 for the season. The Colts are 2-3 ATS in their last five after starting 4-1-1 in 2019.
  • Indianapolis is 10-2 SU in its last 12 home games. The Colts have been even better at home, specifically against the Titans, going 10-1 in their last 11.
  • The Colts have covered the spread in each of their last seven games against the AFC South.
  • The Titans are 1-4 ATS vs. teams with a winning record in their last five games.
  • The total has gone over in each of the Titans’ last five games and five of the Colts’ last seven home contests.
  • The favorite has gone 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these two teams.

Titans TE Delanie Walker (ankle) has been placed on injured reserve and is out for the year.

Colts RB Marlon Mack remains out with a hand injury, which required surgery last week.

Prediction

Titans 24, Colts 21

Moneyline (?)

The Titans come into this one as the much hotter team. They’ve really improved since QB Ryan Tannehill took over, and his strong stretch of play will continue this weekend.

Bet the TITANS (+115) to win straight-up behind a strong rushing attack from Derrick Henry and steady play by Tannehill.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Titans to win outright would return a profit of $11.50.

Against the Spread (?)

The Colts are favored by 2.5 points at home, which means the oddsmakers see the Titans as the slightly better team if on a neutral field. Getting two points with Tennessee is enticing, considering the Titans have covered in four of their last five games.

Bet the TITANS (+2.5, -106) to cover the spread against a Colts team that has been struggling.

Over/Under (?)

The Titans have been hot as of late, winning four of their last five games and scoring at least 20 points in each of the five contests. Their last two wins against the Jaguars (42 points) and Chiefs (35 points) have been especially impressive, too.

The over/under is set at 43.5. Considering the Over has hit in each of the Titans’ last five games, that’s a pretty solid bet. Take the OVER (-110) in this one.

Former Chiefs DT Joey Ivie lands on Titans practice squad

Ivie appeared in five games for the Kansas City Chiefs this season.

A former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman has opted to join the Tennessee Titans practice squad according to the NFL’s transaction report from Tuesday.

Joey Ivie is the newest member of the Titans practice squad. Ivie first joined the Chiefs late in the 2018 season on the practice squad. He was later signed to a reserve/future deal. He made the Chiefs’ 53-man roster following the 2019 preseason but was released after the first two games of the regular season. He ultimately rejoined the team on the practice squad and would remain there until Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Kansas City was in a bind where they were quite short-handed along the defensive line for a stretch of the season. Ivie stepped in and helped out, but became clear that he wasn’t a long term solution for the team. He only played 87 snaps in total over those five games for the Chiefs’ defense and recorded just two tackles and one QB hit during that span.

Ivie was later released to make room for defensive end Demone Harris. Kansas City needed a little more rotation and depth at the edge rusher position. Ivie only provided that during dime defensive looks and it wasn’t exactly his forte.

One of the games Ivie was active for was the Week 10 matchup against the Titans. It’s clear they liked what they saw out of him during the 17 snaps that he played. Now, he’ll perhaps get a chance to play some snaps on the other side of that matchup.

Ivie was pretty chummy with his Kansas City teammates. During training camp, Patrick Mahomes and some other players stationed on the third floor of the dorms at Missouri Western State University played a prank on Ivie and barricaded him in his room using a spare mattress. They’ll all certainly miss that camaraderie, but there’s always a chance Ivie returns to the Chiefs sometime down the line.

Games to watch for Chiefs fans in Week 12

Pay attention to these games during Week 12 of the 2019 season if you’re a Chiefs fan.

The Kansas City Chiefs have their bye week during Week 12.

That means you can spend your entire football Sunday watching other teams around the NFL compete. With only six weeks left in the regular season, you’ll want to keep a closer eye on the AFC West and the rest of the AFC. You can check out the box scores or watch the RedZone Channel on your Fubo.tv account (try it for free).

Here are the top games for Chiefs fans to keep an eye on in Week 12:

Broncos at Bills – noon CT

The Denver Broncos have done a very poor job of closing out games this season. Right now, the Broncos are playing for next season, trying to find some success to propel them into the offseason. They’ll look to get back on track against the Buffalo Bills and play spoiler to their AFC playoff hopes.

The Bills are probably one of the surprise success stories of this season. They’re a confusing team because at one point it looked like they might be able to hang with the Patriots. Since then they have losses to the struggling Eagles and the Browns. They’re in the thick of the AFC playoff race and could challenge the Chiefs for seeding. This is one where you have a free pass to root for the Broncos.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans odds, picks and best bets

Previewing the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans sports betting odds and lines, with NFL Week 12 matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Led by QB Nick Foles, the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-6) will visit the Tennessee Titans (5-5), who are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. This AFC South Week 12 matchup will kick off at 4:05 p.m. ET from Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

  • The Jaguars have lost four of their last six games outright, also going 2-4 against the spread across those six games.
  • Tennessee is 3-1 ATS and straight up in its last four games, most recently beating the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10.
  • The Titans are 6-4 in their last 10 meetings with the Jaguars, going 5-4-1 ATS in those games. They’ve averaged 21.9 points per game in those contests, allowing 20.0 per game to Jacksonville.
  • The Titans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against Jacksonville.
  • The total has gone Over in four of the Titans’ last five games.
  • Tennessee is 5-0 SU against the Jaguars in their last five games.
  • The total has gone over in two of the Jaguars’ last three games.

Jaguars at Titans: Key injuries

Titans TE Delanie Walker (ankle) is questionable. DT Jurrell Casey also has a shoulder injury, while WR Corey Davis is nursing a hip injury.

Prediction

Titans 27, Jaguars 20

Moneyline (?)

Despite Foles being back for his second straight game, the Titans are the better team. Led by QB Ryan Tannehill and RB Derrick Henry, Tennessee’s offense is more than capable of knocking off the Jaguars.

Bet the TITANS (-175) to win this game outright over the Jaguars. Jacksonville is allowing 134.6 rushing yards per game, which Tennessee will exploit.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Titans to win outright would return a profit of $5.68.

Against the Spread (?)

The Titans are 3.5-point home favorites over the Jaguars in this AFC South showdown. They’ve covered the spread in three of their last four games, and they’ll make it four of five Sunday.

Take the TITANS (-106) to cover the spread in this matchup, winning at home by a touchdown.

Over/Under (?)

The projected total is only 41.5 points in this game, which isn’t very high. The Titans have scored at least 23 points in each of their last four games and Jacksonville still has talent on offense with Foles, RB Leonard Fournette and WR DJ Chark, too.

Bet the OVER (-115) in this matchup.
