2021 Three-Star Cornerback Set To Visit Texas Saturday

2021 three-star cornerback Isaiah Nwokobia is set to visit the Texas Longhorns on Saturday. Texas has yet to get a commit at cornerback.

The Texas Longhorns staff has been plenty busy with hitting the recruiting trail with the new staffers. Three-Star Dallas Skyline cornerback Isaiah Nwokobia is set to visit Austin on Saturday, February 1st according to his Twitter account.

The Longhorns have yet to make an offer to Nwokobia but following his visit, the offer should soon follow. He recently picked up offers from Purdue, Texas Tech and Memphis.

The Longhorns have five cornerbacks on their target list but no commitments as of yet.

2020 Matchup Against Oklahoma State Moved

The Big 12 has announced a change in Texas’ schedule. Originally playing Oklahoma St. on Sat Nov. 28th, it has been moved to Fri Nov. 27.

The Big 12 has announced a change in Texas’ schedule, as they have moved the date of the matchup against Oklahoma State. Originally planned to be played on Saturday, Nov. 28th, it has been moved to Friday, Nov. 27.

Since the Big 12’s creation in 1996, this is the latest the Longhorns and Cowboys have played each other. Before this season, the two had only met up in the month of November nine times.

Oklahoma State will be Texas’ fifth different opponent over Thanksgiving weekend since the rivalry with Texas A&M has ended. The other teams have been Baylor, Kansas, TCU, and Texas Tech. It will also be the fifth year in a row the Longhorns will be playing on a Friday, instead of traditionally playing on Thanksgiving Day.

Both teams are projected to have great seasons and this came could have Big 12 Championship implications. Both have offensive firepower coming back with quarterback Sam Ehlinger for Texas and Chubba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace for Oklahoma State. The season finale is in store to be a good one for the Longhorns.

Former Longhorn Kyle Shanahan listed his dreams in 2001 Texas football media guide

Former Longhorn Kyle Shanahan listed his future goals in the 2001 Texas football media guide, it appears he’s reaching them.

Each of us have very specific dreams when we’re young, but few get to live them.

Former Longhorn and current San Francisco 49’ers head coach Kyle Shanahan listed his dreams and aspirations in the 2001 Texas football media guide.

It appears Shanahan had a vision and plan to reach his goals, as he’s well on his way to achieving them.

Anthony Geronimo, sports producer for CBS Austin, was able to locate this blast from the past.

In the media guide, Shanahan’s playing career as a wide receiver was highlighted. While reading the ‘Shanahan File’ that lists random tidbits of information, you wouldn’t think much of his nickname, favorite movie, or favorite actor.

But the record he’d dream of breaking and what he’d like to accomplish after his playing career is worth noting. Shanahan not only dreamed of becoming a coach in the National Football League, he imagined himself breaking the record for most Super Bowls won by a head coach.

Shanahan was named the head coach of the 49’ers in 2017. Three years later, the 49’ers will be competing against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.

At only 40 years of age, Shanahan has plenty of time to break the record he’s always dreamed of. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is currently the all-time leader with six Super Bowl wins.

2020 Texas Longhorns Spring Battles: The Quarterbacks

Who will be Sam Ehlinger’s primary backup in 2020? Hudson Card, Casey Thompson and Roschon Johnson all in the mix.

With spring football practice not to far away we look at the upcoming position battles that will take place over the offseason for the Texas Longhorns. The quarterback is one of those positions that has the starter firmly locked into place. The Longhorns will go into the season with Sam Ehlinger under center but what about who will be his primary backup?

Casey Thompson

Thompson returns for his sophomore season as the primary backup for Ehlinger but will it stay this way? The four-star obviously will have a leg up on the competition due to being in the system for a full year. Even with new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich on staff, Thompson should still be the favorite as the number two.

Thompson appeared in just four games as a freshmen in mop up duty for the Longhorns throwing for 84 yards last season. Not much can be expected from Thompson if Ehlinger stays healthy in 2020. Thompson is definitely a talented dual-threat quarterback that racked up 12,840 yards in high school.

Roschon Johnson

Coming out of high school Johnson was quite the quarterback prospect having appeared in the Under Armour All-American game and an Elite 11 Finalist. Johnson showed just how versatile his skill set was when he made the change to running back due to the injury to Jordan Whittington that ended his season.

With Whittington coming back and the addition to Bijan Robinson, Johnson could find himself back in the quarterback battle with Thompson. Should Whittington move to another position like wide receiver then Roschon could find himself at running back once again due to need.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Hudson Card

Early enrollee and incoming freshman quarterback will find himself in the mix during spring football. Card comes into Texas as the second-ranked dual-threat quarterback of the 2020 class.

Hudson was much like the others on the list, he played in the Under Armour All-American game and was an Elite 11 finalist. Card will be part of the spring camp and he will work on getting acclimated to the college game. He will be battling to be Ehlinger’s primary backup in 2020 and eventually the heir apparent for 2021.

Texas Longhorns Softball Ranked Sixth In The Nation

The Texas Longhorns softball team comes into the season ranked sixth in the ESPN Top 25 poll. The Longhorns look to win the Big 12 in 2020.

The Texas Longhorns softball team is looking to rekindle some of their postseason magic of the 2013 season that saw them reach the semifinals of the Women’s College World Series. That was the furthest in the tournament that the Lady Horns had ever reached. Last season the team reached the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013 under new head coach Mike White. He replaced Connie Clark who had been the head coach since they started the program in 1997.

ESPN Poll announced on Thursday ranked Texas at number six, just three spots behind their bitter rivals at Oklahoma. The Big 12 conference has four of the top 25 with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech also in the mix.

Last season the Longhorns finished with a record of 46-17. Their best since the 2013 season. The Longhorns and Sooners will likely do battle all season for softball supremacy in the Big 12.

Get to know the five highest-rated signees from Texas football’s impressive 2020 recruiting class.

Texas has had an impressive 2020 recruiting class up to this point, currently rated No. 11 in the nation. National Signing Day on the first Wednesday of February could still increase their overall ranking among other programs.

Let’s get to know the five highest-rated signees who could make an immediate impact for the Longhorns this season, courtesy of 247Sports Composite.

Bijan Robinson, RB

  • No. 1 running back in the nation, No. 15 overall prospect
  • Five-star
  • Salpointe Catholic High School (Tucscon, AZ)
  • 6-0, 200 pounds
  • Pro comparison: Alvin Kamara
  • Signed Letter of Intent

Hudson Card, QB

  • No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, No. 57 overall prospect
  • Four-star

  • 6-2.5, 179 pounds
  • Pro Comparison: Will Grier

Vernon Broughton, DT

  • No. 14 defensive tackle in the nation, No. 121 overall prospect

  • Cy Ridge High School (Houston, TX)

Prince Dorbah, LB

  • Four-star
  • Highland Park High School (Dallas, TX)
  • 6-2.5, 208 pounds
  • Pro comparison: D’Andre Walker

Don’t forget about defensive end Alfred Collins. Currently graded as the No. 64 overall prospect in the country, Collins would be a significant addition to this class. He will be announcing his decision between Texas, Oklahoma, or Alabama on National Signing Day.

If Collins does in fact choose Texas, he would be the third-highest rated prospect in this class. Fortunately for the Longhorns, it’s at a critical position of need as well.

Ehlinger will be returning for his senior season, but the battle between Card and Jackson on who will be his successor will be an interesting one to watch.

USC Hires Former Longhorn Assistant Craig Naivar

USC has hired former UT assistant Craig Naivar as their safeties coach. With UT, Naivar was the co-DC, safeties coach, and ST coordinator.

USC has hired former Texas assistant coach Craig Naivar as their safeties coach. With the Longhorns, Naivar spent time as the co-defensive coordinator, safeties coach, and special teams coordinator. He had been on Tom Herman’s staff since he was hired as head coach in 2017.

After firing Todd Orlando after the season, Naivar took over as the defensive coordinator for the bowl game against Utah. It was the best performance of the season for the Texas defense, only allowing 11 points to a high powered Utes offense.

Naivar follows Todd Orlando to Southern Cal as he was hired as their defensive coordinator earlier this month. It will be the pair’s sixth consecutive season working together, going all the way back to their time at Houston.

The Trojan defense struggled last season, giving up nearly 30 points a game. The USC pass defense was the main issue as teams were able to throw for 246 yards per game against them. Orlando and Naivar will have a big task on their hand, trying to turn around a struggling defense in 2020.
