Ranking the 20 most interesting NBA players who could get traded and where each may go

A look at the players who could be dealt by Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

The NBA trade deadline is one week from Thursday, and while it might seem quieter than normal, there could still be a lot of activity.

Even if there isn’t a looming blockbuster move like when the Nets and Sixers swapped James Harden and Ben Simmons last season, there are teams around the league that could have an entirely different roster before the beginning of the All-Star break.

While there are some obvious sellers (e.g. Pistons, Hornets, Spurs, Rockets), others (e.g. Raptors, Pacers, Jazz) have slightly less clear intentions.

Based on the latest rumors and intel provided by insiders around the NBA, these are the players considered most likely to get traded — and where each player is rumored to go.

But remember: The trade deadline is always full of surprises. No one in the league predicted the Kings would have traded Tyrese Haliburton last season! So in addition to these players, expect the unexpected.

On this day: Bird goes for 30 vs. Clippers; Rozier gets 31 vs. Hawks

On this day in Celtics history, Larry Legend hung 30 points on the San Diego Clippers, and Scary Terry put up 31 points on the Atlanta Hawks.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, Hall of Fame small forward Larry Bird hung 30 points on the (then) San Diego Clippers (now, Los Angeles) for the Celtics back in 1983.

Still just a few years removed from swapping franchises with the owner of the Celtics and moving west from Buffalo (a very long and odd tale we highly recommend you get up to speed on if not already aware), New York in their previous incarnation of the Braves, the Clippers played Boston at the old Boston Garden with future Celtic Bill Walton and lost the road game 120 – 110.

Bird’s 30 points and 6 rebounds were no small part of the reason why, with Larry Legend going 10-of-18 from the field to seal the deal for the home team.

Dirty dozen: Despite Jalen Green’s 41 points, Hornets saddle Rockets with NBA’s longest losing streak

Despite Jalen Green tying his career-high with 41 points, the #Rockets have now lost 12 straight games, representing the NBA’s longest losing streak this season.

Despite 41 points by Jalen Green on Wednesday, the Houston Rockets lost their 12th straight game, the NBA’s longest losing streak this season. They’ve lost 17 of 18 games, overall, after a 122-117 setback (box score) versus the lowly Charlotte Hornets.

Charlotte (12-34) entered as the NBA’s second-worst team, on paper, and they lost superstar guard LaMelo Ball midway through the game with an injury. Even so, led by 26 points from Terry Rozier, the Hornets still had too much for lifeless Houston (10-35), which saw Jabari Smith Jr. leave early with a right ankle injury.

Notable statistics for the Rockets, who were again without Kevin Porter Jr. due to a left foot injury, included:

  • Jalen Green: 41 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 turnovers; 16-of-24 shooting (66.7%), 4-of-10 on 3-pointers (40%)
  • Alperen Sengun: 24 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 turnovers, 2 steals; 10-of-16 shooting (62.5%)

No other Houston player scored more than 11 points. Green’s total of 41 tied his career high.

All ex-Boston Celtics vs. today’s team – who would win?

HoopsHype put together a league-wide exercise of the best five players a team has recently moved on from contrasted with the best players they have now.

Whenever an NBA team like the Boston Celtics makes a trade, it is banking on whatever coming back being more of the thing a ball club needs than what they are sending out — even if — in some cases — a team is trying to accumulate draft capital or young talent in a rebuild. The same can be said for players who aren’t re-signed in favor of using a roster spot elsewhere.

So there may be times a team gets worse by design, but that doesn’t stop fans and analysts from dunking on a franchise if a player they dealt away starts playing well later. To be fair, sometimes it’s annoyingly deserved (cough cough Desmond Bane cough), but it can also be a fun exercise to look back on what might have been.

To that end, the staff of HoopsHype put together a league-wide exercise of the best five players a team has recently moved on from contrasted with the best players they have now — let’s see how they rated out the Celtics.

This mock trade would move the needle for the Lakers

Here is an interesting mock trade that could bring the Lakers closer to championship contention right away.

Trade talks around the NBA are starting to get louder, and of course, some of those rumors involve the Los Angeles Lakers.

With a 12-16 record, they’ve been playing much better since starting 2-10, particularly on the offensive end, and there is a sense among some people, especially within the team, that one or two more pieces would result in a championship contender.

Twitter user Lakers All Day 24/8 suggested a three-way trade that would supply the Lakers with three useful forwards, as well as a guard who could be a solid replacement for Russell Westbrook, who would have to be moved in this scenario to make salaries match.

Lakers are reportedly interested in trading for Terry Rozier

The Lakers are reportedly interested in trading Russell Westbrook to the Charlotte Hornets for a package that would include Terry Rozier.

The Los Angeles Lakers may not seriously pursue any trades involving Russell Westbrook for at least a few more weeks, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any ideas or that they aren’t kicking the tires on any potential deals.

One possible trade partner that has been discussed for months is the Charlotte Hornets, whose general manager is Mitch Kupchak, the Lakers’ former executive.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, L.A. is interested in a package that would include guard Terry Rozier.

Via Marc Stein Substack:

“The Lakers’ interest in Charlotte’s Terry Rozier as a potential headliner in a Russell Westbrook trade is not new,” wrote Stein. “You’ll recall that this Substack has been writing since April about L.A.’s fondness for the former [Boston] Celtic in potential Westbrook-centric trade discussions with Charlotte.”

Rozier is a very skilled player who would give the Lakers another legitimate scoring threat, as well as another secondary ball-handler. The combination of both skill sets could help reduce an aging LeBron James’ workload, especially during the regular season.

He is currently out with an ankle injury, but he put up 23.5 points and 8.5 assists per game in his first two contests this season. Last year he averaged 19.3 points and 4.5 assists a game while shooting 37.4 percent from 3-point range.

The issue is that the Lakers already have plenty of guards, particularly small guards, and that Rozier’s skill sets may be redundant, given that Kendrick Nunn and Dennis Schroder are also capable ball-handling guards who are legitimate scoring threats.

On this day: Red passes; KC Jones coach, Hudson, Rozier, Mickey, R. Morgan, Cook player debuts; Nelson signed

On this day, legendary Boston Celtics team president and coach Red Auerbach passed away in 2006.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, legendary Celtics team president and coach Arnold “Red” Auerbach passed away at the age of 89 in 2006. Auerbach assembled a career in basketball unparalleled in its time and to this day, winning nine titles with the team as a coach, and seven more as an executive.

He joined the franchise in 1950 after stints coaching the Washington Capitols (now defunct) in the Basketball Association of America (BAA – a precursor league to the NBA) and at the NCAA level as an assistant coach with the Duke Blue Devils before joining the Celtics.

Red — as he was often called — transformed the game with his emphasis on the fast break and team-focused play reliant on ball movement at all positions.

All-Sixers killers lineup, non All-Star players who give Philly trouble

Here is a lineup of non All-Star players who always seem to give the Philadelphia 76ers trouble.

There are a certain group of players who always seem to come up large against specific teams. These players are solid role guys who play important parts in their team’s success, but they always seem to take their game to another level when they play specific teams.

These are the “team killers.” Everybody has them. The Philadelphia 76ers are no different. A certain group of role players always seem to step up when they see the Sixers on the schedule.

The following players are a part of the “All-Sixers killers” lineup Sixers Wire has put together:

Watch the clip to see the worst (or at least the funniest) of the Celtics over the last decade and a year.

While it might not be an honor to appear on former Boston Celtics big man Shaquille O’Neal‘s “Shaqtin a Fool” segment on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” a fair number of Boston players making a guest appearance over the years. The segment, for the uninitiated, is effectively the blooper reel of the dumbest, funniest or weirdest things Shaq and company caught on video that week.

Now, YouTuber and Celtics fan videographer Danielle Hobeika put together an all-time compilation of when Celtics players made the show. The list includes Rajon Rondo, Mikael Pietrus, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Kris Humphries, Vitor Faverani, Kelly Olynyk, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, Al Horford, Gerald Green, Jayson Tatum, Daniel Theis, Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, and Glen “Big Baby” Davis.

Nets vs. Hornets game preview: How to watch, TV channel, start time

The Brooklyn Nets will face off against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. Here’s everything to know ahead of this matchup:

The Brooklyn Nets will take on the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch all the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

Coming off a 110-95 win over the Miami Heat, the Nets will look to continue their momentum. Brooklyn held a 37-point lead at one point during the game. The Hornets defeated the Utah Jazz 107-101 in their last outing with Miles Bridges (26), Terry Rozier (25), and LaMelo Ball (21) combining for 72 points on the night.

The big storyline for this game will be Kyrie Irving making his home debut after recent changes to the New York City vaccine mandate. He is now eligible to play at Barclays Center and will be doing so for the first time since Game 2 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals. Having Irving back in the lineup at home will be a great showcase of what the NBA has missed.

“It’s a long time coming,” Durant said of Irving making his home debut on Sunday. “It’s an exciting time for Brooklyn Nets fans and New York fans to see one of our own back on the floor at home. It means a lot to our team, happy to have him back, and look forward to finishing the season strong.”

There are legitimate potential playoff implications with this matchup for the Hornets and Nets. Brooklyn holds a one-game lead over Charlotte in the Eastern Conference standings entering this game.

Here’s when and where you should tune in to see the matchup:
