Rams sign former Ohio State defensive lineman

Rams sign former Buckeye defensive lineman #GoBucks #Rams

A few former Ohio State football players went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and another one just got signed. Taron Vincent, who started every game on the interior defensive line for the Buckeyes last season, is going to get another NFL opportunity with the Los Angeles Rams.

After going undrafted, Vincent was extended an offer to join the Buffalo Bills for their rookie minicamp but failed to gain a contract. He will now get another shot to earn his spot with Los Angeles. Vincent was a former stud recruit, whose inconsistent play kept him from greatness in Columbus, but he has plenty of potential to stick in the NFL.

Vincent is the son of NFL legend Troy Vincent, who is currently the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the NFL. His son will be looking to chase the same greatness as a professional.

The Los Angeles Rams need depth along the defensive line after losing Greg Gaines and A’Shawn Robinson in free agency, and they did well to add some help in the draft. They’re bringing in another D-lineman post-draft, too, signing Ohio State’s Taron Vincent.

Vincent went undrafted this year but will be looking to make the Rams’ roster as a rookie. He’s the son of NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent, who has held that position since 2014. Troy Vincent was a cornerback in the NFL from 1992-2006, playing for the Dolphins, Eagles, Bills and Washington.

Taron Vincent spent five seasons at Ohio State, though he didn’t play in 2019 due to a torn labrum. He finished his career with 58 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and eight tackles for a loss. He’s slightly undersized at 6-foot-1 and 305 pounds but was productive at Ohio State.

Top-five rated Ohio State defensive tackle recruits since 2000

Top five rated Ohio State defensive tackle recruits since 2000 #GoBucks

We have been diving into some of the more highly touted recruits in Ohio State history. We recently discussed the quarterbacks, running backswide receiverstight endsoffensive tacklesguards, center and defensive ends but we wanted to look into the history of recruiting defensive tackles.

There are some very interesting names on this top-five recruiting list and even though 247Sports only goes back to 2000, there are some memorable names. It is always fun to reflect on how some of these guys performed and whether or not they lived up to expectations. This list only confirms the insanity of talent Ohio State has had at the defensive tackle position and some of the interesting guys that just missed the cut are Quinn Pitcock, future NFL center, Billy Price and Cameron Heyward. Let’s dive into the list.

Ohio State makes transfer defensive tackle’s top 5

The Buckeyes are looking to add defensive line depth from the portal #GoBucks

Although spring practice is coming to a close, Ohio State continues looking to add depth to its defensive line, specifically the interior.

Last year [autotag]Mike Hall[/autotag] had trouble staying on the field due to injuries and [autotag]Tyleik Williams[/autotag] played sparingly behind him, [autotag]Taron Vincent[/autotag] and [autotag]Jerron Cage[/autotag]. Defensive line coach [autotag]Larry Johnson[/autotag] rotates plenty of bodies within his position group, so depth is paramount.

Enter former Maryland defensive tackle [autotag]Tank Booker[/autotag]. The Ohio native entered the portal at the beginning of March after spending his first four seasons with Maryland. He enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2022, registering 27 tackles with two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Booker released his top five schools Saturday with Ohio State making the cut along with Purdue, South Carolina, Arkansas and Texas A&M.

According to this report from Hale McGranahan of 247Sports, Booker is set to make his choice on April 12. We will know soon where Tank will end up.

Predicting where Ohio State players will land in NFL draft

Predicting where Ohio State players will land in NFL Draft #GoBucks #NFLDraft

The only NFL game remaining is the Super Bowl. That means 30 of the 32 teams in the league are focusing on the NFL draft and how to build for their futures. Now the NFL draft may not mean much to your average college football fan, but Ohio State fans love paying attention to former alumni and cheering them on in the big league.

The Buckeye program has a strong pipeline to the NFL. Even if you sit on the bench during your time at Ohio State, you are still likely to get a shot in the NFL, because of the prestige of the program. Realistically there are eight legit NFL prospects coming from Ohio State into the league this year, and I wanted to break down where they might get selected.
