These players built a creative solution to Lego Fortnite’s fast travel problem

These players found a clever solution to Lego Fortnite’s fast travel problem by building cars, planes, and flying fortresses

Lego Fortnite fast travel isn’t a thing, both in the video game sense of instantly transporting yourself somewhere or in the normal sense of just moving kinda quickly. That makes moving around in Lego Fortnite’s vast open world a bit of a chore, but some clever players figured out a way to pick up the pace.

They built cars, planes, some flying fortresses, and one or two creations that probably don’t fit into any known category.

That’s all in the spirit of Lego, you might say, but the impressive part about this is that Lego Fortnite actually has pretty strict limits on what you can build and how it works. For starters, there are no blueprints for building cars or vehicles of any kind. Compounding the challenge is a quirk with Lego Fortnite blocks that means they don’t always function the way you might expect. If you slap some wheels on a basic block, they aren’t going to turn.

The foundation for these creations is dynamic – literally. It’s called the Dynamic Foundation block, named for how it interacts with other blocks in ways that most building materials in the game don’t. You can stick some balloons on it to create a floating platform or attach wheels to form a basic car.

YouTuber Zzyinc made what looks like a hybrid tank-car combo with a small hut on the front. Another creator just stuck some rockets on the foundation and went flying off into the sunset.

TikTok user Scuba tried using a thruster-balloon combination to make a large plane, though steering the flying contraption wasn’t the easiest task.

Speaking of flying, my favorite creation has to be this one, from Reddit user Peruunaa. It’s a complex build with multiple platforms, several thrusters, and some clever use of switches to control propulsion.

Clankbloon v.1 (Steerable airship)
byu/Peruunaaa inLEGOfortnite

Lego Fortnite doesn’t have steering wheels, so they placed their plane’s thrusters and switches in a pattern that meant they could toggle them on and off to control the airship’s direction.

Most of the materials these creations require, including flexwood, only become available as you make a fair bit of progress in a survival run, so expect to spend a lot of time on your little Lego feet before you can start building contraptions like this yourself.

Court sides with Epic Games in Google Play monopoly case

The long court battle between Epic Games and Google Play is finally over, and Google came out worse for wear

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

The long court battle between Epic Games and Google Play is finally over, and Google came out worse for wear. The jury verdict comes three years after Epic filed a suit accusing Google of operating an illegal monopoly with the Google Play store on mobile devices and, specifically, Google Play Billing (thanks, The Verge).

The jury answered yes to each allegation, stating Google has monopoly power in Android app distribution and in-app billing and that its position and anticompetitive actions harmed Epic Games. Epic wasn’t the only one harmed either. During the trial, evidence emerged of secret revenue sharing deals between Google and large corporations such as Netflix and Spotify, where Google didn’t impose Play Billing terms on certain entities – the same terms every other publisher had to abide by.

“We plan to challenge the verdict,” Google VP of government affairs and public policy said in a statement. “Android and Google Play provide more choice and openness than any other major mobile platform. The trial made clear that we compete fiercely with Apple and its App Store, as well as app stores on Android devices and gaming consoles. We will continue to defend the Android business model and remain deeply committed to our users, partners, and the broader Android ecosystem.”

The judge hearing Epic v. Google hasn’t ordered any remediation from Google yet, and it’s unclear what actions they might require Google to take. Epic is aiming for freedom for developers and publishers to implement their own in-app stores on Android devices, though remediation discussions won’t begin until January 2024. While Epic and CEO Tim Sweeney will not seek payment for damages, Sweeny did say during the hearing that Epic stands to make “billions” of dollars by not having to pay Google for Play Billing.

Sweeney also laid off nearly 1,000 Epic employees just weeks before, citing difficult economic headwinds and company mismanagement as the cause.

Where to find flexwood in Lego Fortnite

Our Lego Fortnite flexwood guide points out where to look and how to get all of it that you’ll need.

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Getting the Lego Fortnite flexwood material is a pretty lengthy process compared to harvesting the open-world game’s other necessary items – and flexwood definitely is necessary. You need it for crafting high-level weapons, better tools, and even the health charms that keep you going in the face of rollers and other powerful enemies. Getting it requires some additional upgrades first, though, and a long trek into the dusty wilderness.

Our Lego Fortnite flexwood guide points out where to look and how to get all of it that you’ll need.

How to get marble in Lego Fortnite

Our Lego Fortnite marble guide points out where to look and how to get more of the good stuff than you’ll probably ever need.

If you want to upgrade your village and pretty much everything else in Epic’s new blocky builder, you’ll need plenty of the Lego Fortnite marble material. Marble is one of the more challenging building materials to find, since, unlike granite – and marble’s real-life counterpart – you can’t actually just hew it out of the rocks. You have to hunt down specific locations in one of Lego Fortnite’s open-world biomes. On the bright side, it’s a pretty easy biome to find, since you almost always start there.

Fortnite’s racing mode is the best of Rocket League and Mario Kart

Hot on the heels of Lego Fortnite, Epic added what essentially amounts to Fortnite Mario Kart with the new Rocket Racing mode

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Hot on the heels of Lego Fortnite, Epic added what essentially amounts to Fortnite Mario Kart with the new Rocket Racing mode. Rocket Racing combines Rocket League with classic arcade racing and the anti-gravity shenanigans of Mario Kart 8, and you can play it for free in Fortnite starting now.

Fortnite Rocket Racing lets you bring your Rocket League cars and cosmetics to the multiplayer game, or you can pick from a selection of standard cars if you’ve never played Rocket League before. It looks like drifting and smart timing of your boost feature take the place of Mario Kart-style powerups and the antics they inspire, though there’s still plenty of over-the-top personality in Rocket Racing thanks to its Rocket League origins.

Like in Psyonix’s car-soccer game, you can boost jump, flip your car, and fly – and fall – on the tracks. It seems pretty complicated, though once you get the hang of it, it looks like the type of mechanics you could use to pull off some pretty sweet moves.

Rocket Racer launches with 26 tracks, three biomes, and ranked and unranked modes. Ranked modes are divided similar to Fortnite ranks, starting at Bronze and ending with Unreal.

Like Lego Fortnite, Epic promised to continue supporting Fortnite Rocket Racing with new features and cars throughout 2024, and you can spend V-Bucks in the item shop to buy new cars or pieces.

You can download Fortnite Rocket Racing for free on all platforms now by finding it in Fortnite’s Discover tab.

The Lego Fortnite update is even bigger than we expected

The Lego Fortnite update is live, bringing an element of survival to the multiplayer game, and it’s much deeper than we expected

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

The Lego Fortnite update is live, bringing an element of survival to the multiplayer game, and it’s much deeper than we expected. Epic includes the hefty new update for free alongside regular Fortnite on all platforms in the Discover tab, so you get an expansive survival mode and leisurely sandbox building mode for the cost of absolutely nothing save for a few seconds of time.

It’s hard to overstate just how much like Minecraft this new Lego Fortnite update is. Survival mode puts your lil’ Lego guy, gal, superhero, or banana peel into a gorgeous world divided into themed biomes – meadow, volcano, and so on – and lets you fend for yourself against monsters and nature. You craft weapons, build shelters, and save hapless villagers from the dangers of the wild – or maybe not so hapless. In the short time we’ve managed to play Lego Fortnite, we’ve seen villagers take out entire packs of wolves without getting scratched.

Sandbox mode drops you into a safe world and lets you explore and build whatever you want, without having to worry about monsters, hypothermia, or death. Before you begin in sandbox or survival mode, you create a world, set certain parameters that guide how it operates – no hunger or death, for example – and team up with friends for multiplayer co-op if you want.

The big difference between Lego Fortnite and Minecraft – aside from the former being free – is that you can use a pretty big chunk of your Fortnite skins as your playable character. Granted, some skins don’t translate terribly well, but if you’ve ever dreamed of roaming a Lego forest with Jonesy, well, you can do it now.

Epic promised more updates, including more Lego Fortnite skins, throughout 2024, so Lego Fortnite is only going to keep getting bigger.

Meanwhile, if you’re still keen on playing battle royale mode, check out our guide for where to find the weapon mod bench locations if you want an extra advantage in each match.

Fortnite weapon mod benches give you a slight advantage in the multiplayer game by letting you, well, mod your weapon. They’re not easy to find, though, and gaining access to weapon mod benches is even more challenging. If you don’t mind not being the first one on the scene, though, you can wait and let someone else do all the heavy lifting for you – with the caveat that they’ll probably take the loot you need to fund your mods, too.

We’ve listed all the Fortnite weapon mod bench locations below, with pointers for where to find the vault and how to apply mods as well.

Fortnite Chapter 5 adds over 1,000 Lego Fortnite skins

Fortnite Chapter 5 is here, and with it is a treasure chest of Fortnite Lego skins, with more planned for characters in the multiplayer game

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Fortnite Chapter 5 is here, and with it is a treasure chest of Fortnite Lego skins, with even more planned for popular characters in the multiplayer game. The new update adds over 1,200 Lego variations to existing Fortnite skins, including Lego Peely, Fishstick, and more.

You can check a skin’s “details” page in the shop to see if it has a variant, and some emotes will have different Lego styles as well.

The official Lego x Fortnite page posted a short video highlighting some of those character skins and said they’re available in the item store now or, if you already own a character or emote with a Lego alternative, they should be in your locker. Maybe. I think Epic might have jumped the brick on this one, as the existing item shop has no Lego variants, and the Fortnite x Lego collaboration doesn’t properly begin until Dec. 7, 2023.

Either way, when it does go live, you can expect to see Jonesy in Lego form, that creepy-looking Cuddle Bear, the guy with a tomato on his head called Tomatohead – pretty much every skin that Epic doesn’t have to license from other properties, like it does for Peter Griffin and Solid Snake. It’s unclear whether we’ll see Lego variants for the likes of Spider-Man or any of the dozens of other crossover character skins, as Epic didn’t mention any specific plans for which characters are included in the collaboration.

The announcement blog post did mention that more Lego outfits will land in the game “often,” so check back if you don’t see your favorite at first.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Battle Pass leaks point to Peter Griffin, Solid Snake

It looks like the Fortnite Family Guy crossover is in Chapter 5’s Battle Pass, and Metal Gear Solid’s Snake is joining the multiplayer game

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

It looks like the Fortnite Family Guy crossover is finally happening in Fortnite Chapter 5’s Battle Pass, and Metal Gear Solid’s Snake is joining the multiplayer game. The leak comes from Xbox, which accidentally posted an image from Chapter 5 on the Series X|S home screen. Fortnite leaker Shiina posted the image on Twitter before it was removed.

The Fortnite Family Guy crossover first popped up at the start of 2023 in a datamined list of upcoming skins, but this is the first we’ve seen of it since then.

Unless it’s wildly off base, it seems safe to say Season 5 has a spy theme. Everyone’s dressed in a swanky suit, even the giant bipedal tiger and Peter Griffin, the latter of whom is looking rather different than usual. Fortnite Peter Griffin is taller and somehow magicked away his signature belly.

Crouching on a snazzy car behind Peter is Solid Snake, from Konami’s classic Metal Gear series. There’s still no word on when we can expect the Metal Gear 3 remake, so if you’re wanting some fresh Snake, this is gonna have to do for now.

Jonesy is back and stands out from the suits with his white coat and bright scarf, and there’s a handful of other, more generic-looking characters. Most of these characters have guns, so whether you’ll be able to use them in certain player-created experiences is up in the air. Epic’s new standardized rating policy means some skins with visible guns are considered inappropriate for certain activities.

Fortnite Chapter 5 kicks off on Dec. 3, 2023, for PC, mobile, and console.

Fans slam the Fortnite 27.10 update after Epic restricts skin use

The Fortnite 27.10 update is here, and the age and cosmetic restrictions are going over poorly with some fans of the multiplayer game

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Update: Nov. 16, 2023:

Epic posted a short statement on the Fortnite Twitter account addressing the community’s concerns.

“More on today’s rating announcement. About 7% of Fortnite Outfits can only be equipped in islands rated Teen. Over the next year we will enable most of these Outfits to be compatible with all ratings by having them auto-adjust appearance based on the island you want to play.”

Original Story:

The Fortnite 27.10 update is here, and the age and cosmetic restrictions are going over poorly with some fans of the multiplayer game. They’re not happy with the user interface updates either. Or the map. Or, well, anything.

The Fortnite Reddit is full of posts complaining about the changes and calling Fortnite 27.10 the game’s worst update ever. The most common issue players have is with the age rating system. Epic said in a statement that it introduced the rating system to standardize games and other creations that players add to the Fortnite creative platform as part of their “commitment to providing families with tools to make informed decisions about which experiences are appropriate for their children.”

It’s official. This is THE worst update in Fortnite history
byu/Toon_Lucario inFortNiteBR

The problem is, it disables a large selection of skins if you’re playing something rated E10+ or lower. The rules governing what skins count as age-appropriate seem a bit random as well. It looks like any skin with a gun as part of its kit is automatically barred, despite Fortnite being a game about shooting people, though a few random, cartoon-like horror characters got the axe as well, including Mincemeat.

Meanwhile, Michael Meyers from Halloween is totally fine for children, as is anyone carrying knives or other non-firearm weapons.

These restrictions only apply to player-made experiences, and even then, the creator has to opt in and decide the rating themselves. It’s not hard to see why fans are less than pleased, though. When skins cost roughly $20 or more, you don’t expect to suddenly have them restricted.

The UI updates suck
byu/paranomro inFortNiteBR

Fortnite 27.10 also changes the game’s font. That sounds like a minor thing to complain about, but it is genuinely awful. Fortnite used to have a distinct visual style, one that the text complemented and helped strengthen. Now, it looks flat and more than a little dull, with hardly any trace of the original style left.

“I wish we could go back to the chapter 2 look, when their passion and drive for IMPROVING the game had peaked,” one Redditer said. “I’m sad to say this, but this isn’t the Fortnite I fell in love with all those years ago.”

Well the ui’s died…
byu/KATBOI667-0_0 inFortNiteBR

And if that weren’t enough, the map isn’t quite what Epic promised. It’s meant to be a throwback to older, classic Fortnite maps, but it’s missing features and scaled some down to the point where they might as well not even be there.

Is anyone else disappointed in the map?
byu/denman_yt inFortNiteBR

Epic hasn’t commented on the skin issue, so whether any of these changes are permanent remains to be seen.
