2022 World Cup: Spain vs. Germany odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Spain vs. Germany odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Germany (0 wins, 1 loss, 0 draws) battles Spain (1-0-0) Sunday in a Group E  group stage match. Kickoff from Al Bayt Stadium is set for 2 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Spain vs. Germany odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Spain crushed Costa Rica in 1 of the more impressive 1st game displays. The No. 7 team in FIFA’s world rankings scored 7 goals on 8 shots on target while controlling possession for 82% of the time and holding Costa Rica without a single shot.

F Ferran Torres was the only player for Spain to score multiple times as 6 players managed to find the back of the net. The Spanish experience and poise looked better than ever.

Germany didn’t have similar success. FIFA’s No. 11-ranked team is considered one of the best teams in the tournament, but it lost 2-1 to Japan in their 1st game and now have their backs against the wall.

Germany had more than double the shots as Japan (26-12) and had 5 more shots on target (9-4). However, the only German goal was a penalty kick from M Ilkay Gundogan.

Prediction

Spain 1, Germany 1

Moneyline (ML)

LEAN DRAW (+275).

Most of the action here should come on Spain and rightfully so. While Germany didn’t struggle in their opener, they did lose. They had 74% of possession and more than double the shots and shots on goal.

With GK Manuel Neuer and an extremely talented midfield, Germany should be able to limit Spain. Germany must get a result to stay in the tournament.

Spain is talented and has an equally impressive midfield, but considering what Germany needs and the passion they should be playing with, expect their side to push for any points.

I think they’ll get something here, and the Draw (+275) is the best money line value.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+115).

The midfield is the strength for both sides as Spain has experience and poise in M Sergio Busquets. M Gavi, at 18 years old, is also a budding star. Expect his touch to help Spain.

While both teams did get 15-plus shots in their 1st game, the defense, and more specifically the goal keepers, should be of much higher class and help limit the goals.

Leading into the tournament, Spain’s only real competition in 2022 was a pair of matches against Portugal and Switzerland in which those games would have been 1-3 O/U.

This should be an intense game with quality touches and solid defending. I would back the Under 2.5 (+115) here.

2022 World Cup: Spain vs. Costa Rica odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Spain vs. Costa Rica odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Spain will battle Costa Rica in Wednesday’s 2nd match of Group E group stage play with kickoff at Al Thumama Stadium set for 11 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Spain vs. Costa Rica odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Spain is another big name in this competition, typically a breeding ground for talent and strong players. The No. 7-ranked team by FIFA is walking with their heads high having a strong 2022 season with a 6-1-2 mark. Those wins include Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.

Spain has a phenomenal lineup with names such as: D Cesar Azpilicueta, D Jordi Alba, M Pedri, M Sergio Busquets, F Ansu Fati, F Fernan Torres. This is a young squad overall, but full of pace and talent. Spain’s defense will be their strongest point with Chelsea captain Azpilicueta leading the way.

Costa Rica, No. 31 in FIFA’s ranings, is 8-1-1 in 2022 with wins over the USA, Canada, and Honduras. GK Keylor Navas is one of the best keepers in the tournament, a very seasoned keeper playing 13 seasons in his career.

One of their more talented players, M Johan Vengas has 11 goals in 82 caps. F Anthony Contreras has 2 goals in 9 matches played as well. This team has proven their ability to put the ball in the back of the net, especially against a quality opponent.

Prediction

Spain 2, Costa Rica 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Spain has a stronger lineup with younger talent that plays well together and plays with a lot of pace behind them.

The midfield duo of M Sergio Busquets, who ages like fine wine in the football world, and the youngster M Pedri, will be something special to watch.  Someone that I believe to be the underdog of the team is F Ansu Fati. He was a star for Barcelona until he suffered several injuries that kept him out for a year.

Ultimately, there just isn’t value in backing Costa Rica or a draw and certainly no value on the (-650) Spain moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+130).

With the defense of Spain and the weaker attack of Costa Rica, I see it being a struggle for Costa Rica to score. Spain is young and fast, but their lack of tournament experience in the front 3 may pose problems for them to score as well.

What Spain lacks for in experience in their front attackers, they will make up for with Busquets in the midfield, plus their back 4 defenders. Pedri and M Gavi are also a midfield duo at FC Barcelona, so have great chemistry. That should aid them in dominating possession and the game but necessarily pressing to crush Costa Rica.

Back the Under 2.5 (+130). While both teams have talent in the attack, I believe this will overall be a defensive battle.

Summer Olympics Men’s Soccer: Brazil vs. Spain odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Brazil vs. Spain odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Soccer picks, tips and best bets.

Neither Brazil or Spain brought their best squad to the Summer Olympics amid a busy summer of international soccer, but they’ll play for the gold medal Saturday. Kickoff will be at 7:30 a.m. ET at International Stadium Yokohama. Below, we preview the Brazil vs. Spain odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Spain topped host nation Japan 1-0 in the semifinals while Brazil had to go to penalty kicks with Mexico where it won 4-1.

The Spaniards handed Ivory Coast a more decisive 5-2 loss in the quarterfinals after winning Group C at just 1-0-2. Spain outscored the competition 2-1 in the Group Stage. Brazil won Group D at a more convincing 2-0-1 and outscored the rest of the group 7-3.

Brazil entered the Olympics third in the FIFA world rankings and Spain sixth; however, those rankings were not updated since the end of the Euro 2020 and Copa America tournaments.

Prediction

Brazil 2, Spain 0

Money line (ML)

Back the much higher-scoring BRAZIL (+165) for a win within 90 minutes and stoppage time.

Spain opened the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Egypt, crept past Australia 1-0 and drew Argentina 1-1 before erupting for 5 goals against Ivory Coast in the quarters. The offense was short-lived as it topped Japan just 1-0.

Brazil has been much more proficient at the offensive end. It doubled up Germany 4-2, drew Ivory Coast 0-0 and responded with a 3-1 win over Saudi Arabia to close the Group Stage.

Mexico, who Brazil beat in the semifinals, is by far the best team either side played in the knockout stage. That tough tuneup will be an advantage for Brazil in the medal game.

Over/Under (O/U)

There are two possible plays on the total with neither being ideal but OVER 1.5 (-170) offers better value than Under 2.5 (-220).

Scoring dried up for both teams in the semifinals but Brazil has shown an ability to find the back of the net in this tournament. It’ll get some revenge and take care of the Over after losing the Copa America final 1-0 to Argentina.

Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball: USA vs. Spain odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s USA vs. Spain odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball picks, tips and best bets.

The quarterfinals of the Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball Tournament are here. USA and Spain play the second game of the four taking place overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Tip-off will be at 12:40 a.m. ET at Saitama Super Arena. Below, we preview the USA vs. Spain odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Team USA got off to a nightmarish start in the tournament with an 83-76 loss to France but won its final two games of the group stage to advance to the quarterfinals. USA beat Iran 120-66 and the Czech Republic 119-84.

The script was flipped for Spain. It beat Japan 88-77 and Argentina 81-71 before a 95-87 loss to Slovenia Sunday.

USA and Spain finished second in Group A and C, respectively. The two countries are first and second, respectively, in the FIBA world rankings.

USA vs. Spain: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

USA 96, Spain 81

Money line (ML)

USA (-1000) reestablished itself as the best team in this tournament after its ugly start against France. Spain, led by NBA players PG Ricky Rubio, C Marc Gasol and PF Pau Gasol, started well but came up short in its toughest test of the tournament against Slovenia.

PASS on the chalky money line price and turn to the spread for proper value on the Americans.

Against the spread (ATS)

USA -11.5 (-135) is still a pricey play when needing to win by 12 or more points but it’s the top play for a winner. Rubio had his worst scoring performance of the tournament against PG Luka Doncic and Slovenia, and the Americans have the guard play to contain him again.

Team USA won back-to-back games by 54 and 35 points. The level of competition increases greatly in the quarterfinals against Spain but there’s quite a bit of room for error with the conservative line.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 180.5 (-115) if the play on the total. USA easily topped 100 points in each of its last two games, but Spain brings much better team defense to the table than either Iran or the Czech Republic. The Americans were held to just 76 points against the quality French side.

Spain has been relying heavily on defense, as it scored fewer than 90 points in all three games and held the opposition below 80 points in each of its two wins.

Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball: Spain vs. Argentina odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball picks, tips and best bets.

In Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball action Thursday, Spain and Argentina play in an 8 a.m. ET tip-off at Saitama Super Arena. Below, we preview the Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Spain posted an 88-77 win over Japan in its Group C opener Monday. PG Ricky Rubio dropped 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, and he added 9 assists. F Victor Claver was a solid secondary scoring option with 13 points on a perfect 6-for-6 night from the field.

Spain also has the Gasol brothers, as well as C Willy Hernangomez and SF Alex Abrines, who rained in three triples to score 11 points off the bench. So Spain is deep with NBA, or former NBA, talent.

Argentina, meanwhile, couldn’t contain PG Luka Doncic and Slovenia in its Group C opener. It fell 118-110, as Doncic pumped in 48 points. Argrentina F Luis Scola was sharp, posting 23 points, while G Facundo Campazzo had 21 points, including three triples.

Spain vs. Argentina: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spain 91, Argentina 78

Money line (ML)

Spain (-375) will cost you nearly four times your potential return, and that’s a little too rich against a decent side like Argentina.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

SPAIN -8.5 (-115) is a good play against an Argentinian side which showed plenty of offense but also had very little answers on defense in its opening group game.

The Spaniards should be able to put it on their South American counterparts and end up with a win by double digits.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 163.5 (-115) is a very strong play, as Spain has a ton of NBA talent and will be able to pile up the points against a team that gave up 118 points in its opening game.

Summer Olympics Men’s Soccer: Spain vs. Argentina odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Soccer betting picks, tips and best bets.

In their final Group Stage match Wednesday, Spain (1-0-1) takes on Argentina (1-1-0) in a 7 a.m. ET kickoff at Saitama Stadium. Below, we preview the Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Spain played well in Euro 2020, and while most of those players will not be on the pitch, they will have an impressive young core on the field. MF Pedri Gonzalez should be the star in the middle.

Argentina’s only win, in which D Facundo Medina netted an early goal, was over Egypt. It’s only other match was a 2-0 loss to Australia. This will be a tough test for Argentina as a win puts it atop the group.

Prediction

Spain 1, Argentina 0

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to SPAIN (-115) as it’s the more talented side. It’s also the only team in Group C to not look at all flawed.

While it drew with Egypt, Spain had almost four times the shots and 71% of possession. Its other match was a 1-0 win over Australia. While it just needs a draw to win the group, this could be a statement match for the better side.

Argentina has 1 goal by a defender and hasn’t been able to get much going. It’d be shocking to see Argentina score against a dominant Spanish defense.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-135) as the teams just haven’t scored often. There have been only 4 goals in all four games so far in Group C play.

With that in mind, I wouldn’t bet on this being a goal-heavy match. Spain GK Unai Simon, who plays club soccer with Athletic Bilbao, has yet to allow a goal so far this tournament.

Spain has a great goalkeeper and the Argentinian forwards combined for just 5 shots in their first two games. Argentina has yet to see any forward or midfielder net a goal.

The Under is the easy play as the teams have combined for 2 goals scored so far.

Euro 2020: Italy vs. Spain odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Italy vs. Spain odds and lines, with UEFA EURO 2020 picks, tips, predictions and best bets.

We’re down to just four teams in Euro 2020 and Italy meets Spain Tuesday in our first semifinal match for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Below, we preview the Italy vs. Spain odds and lines and make our best Euro 2020 bets, picks and predictions.

Spain, the No. 6 nation in the FIFA World Rankings, defeated the Xherdan Shaqiri-led Switzerland in the quarterfinals despite failing to score while up a man for the final 33-plus minutes of regulation and stoppage time. Spain had 28 shots (10 on target) but just 1 goal.

With a bad penalty record, Spain managed to step up and top Switzerland 3-1 on penalties.

Italy topped Belgium 2-1 in the quarterfinals. Despite MF Eden Hazard being sidelined, Belgium looked almost at full strength. The top team in the world by the FIFA rankings, lost to seventh-ranked Italy. A penalty kick was the only goal Belgium got on the board.

Italy had two absolutely beautiful goals. It shook off its Round of 16 struggles and looked dominant to improve to 5-0-0 in the tournament.

Italy vs. Spain: Odds, picks and predictions

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:46 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Italy 1, Spain 1 (Italy advances in extra time)

Money line (ML)

BET on ITALY TO ADVANCE (-145) as the best value bet. While it’s a bit pricey, Spain is a classy side and may find a way to push this to penalty kicks.

Italy looked flawless despite one mistaken challenge against Belgium. After watching that and seeing the combination of lethal finishers with veteran defenders like 36-year-old Giorgio Chiellini, I wouldn’t bet against Italy.

Also, Italy’s defense is much stronger than Switzerland’s, so if Spain struggled to score against the Swiss, I can only imagine the difficulty they could be in for in the semifinals.

After giving up 2 goals in the final 15 minutes to Croatia and not capitalizing on the red card against Switzerland, betting on Spain in any form to win this game is a trap.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (-175) despite the steep price.

While Spain has two 5-goal games in the tournament, it scored 5, 1 and 0 goals in three matches against top-20 teams. In similar matches, Italy scored 3, 2 and 1 goals. I don’t think this will be a high-scoring match, especially with Italy’s defensive prowess.

However, Italy isn’t the only side with extremely experienced defenders. Spain has defending MF Sergio Busquets and D Jordi Alba both helping captain their roster.

Expect a low-scoring affair that may head into extra time. Thankfully, the total is only in effect for the regular time, and 1-1 feels like a very realistic 90-minute score.

Euro 2020: Switzerland vs. Spain odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Switzerland vs. Spain odds and lines, with UEFA EURO 2020 picks, tips, predictions and best bets.

In the first quarterfinals match of Euro 2020, Spain takes on Switzerland Friday in St. Petersburg, Russia. Kickoff will be at noon ET. Below, we preview the Switzerland vs. Spain odds and lines and make our best Euro 2020 bets, picks and predictions.

With Germany out, Spain is the most experienced team still remaining.

After going up 3-1 on Croatia in the Round of 16 and maintaining that lead until the 85th minute, Spain looked well-positioned to coast into the quarterfinals. After giving up 2 goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, Spain scored twice in extra time to advance.

Spain’s Group Stage matches didn’t show much as it drew two and crushed Slovakia 5-0.

The Swiss were 1-1-1 in their Group Stage and knocked off an uncharacteristically sluggish French side on penalties in the Round of 16. Despite that, Switzerland still enters as a heavy underdog.

Switzerland vs. Spain: Odds, picks and predictions

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Switzerland +475 (bet $100 to win $475) | Spain -150 (bet $150 to win $100) | Draw +270

Prediction

Spain 2, Switzerland 1

Money line (ML)

PASS on the money line as Spain is just far too pricey.

Look at what Switzerland did to France, despite being the underdog. While I think Spain will manage to get through, the value is on Switzerland (+475). It’s 13th in the FIFA world rankings.

If the Swiss are going to do anything it must be Liverpool’s attacking midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri getting the job done. They were more than doubled up in shots in the Round of 16, and if you replay Swiss-France, the result is probably different.

While the draw or Switzerland win seemingly offer good odds, they’re even a bit risky. The best bet in this area is for SWITZERLAND TO ADVANCE (+250).

While Spain is the more talented side and should be predicted to win, the underdog won three of the eight games in the Round of 16.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the OVER 2.5 (-110) as the best value in this match. Both teams absolutely crushed the total in their Round of 16 matches and the offensive firepower is there.

The real reason to bet the Over is that Spain is clearly hitting its stride offensively with 10 goals in the last two games.

It’s not just one superstar either. In both games, five different players scored for Spain.

That said, Switzerland put up 3 goals on a solid French defense and also averaged over a goal per game in the Group Stage.

I expect at least 1 in the back of the net for Switzerland and at least 2 from Spain. This is the best bet of the match.
