2023 Women’s World Cup: Argentina vs. Sweden odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Argentina vs. Sweden odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Argentina (0-1-1 / W-D-L) takes on Sweden (2-0-0) Wednesday in each nation’s final 2023 Women’s World Cup group stage match. Kickoff from FMG Stadium Waikato is set for 3 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Sweden odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina opened its World Cup play with a 1-0 loss to Italy on July 24. It ended with just 1 shot on target and 47% of the possession. Against a weaker South Africa, Argentina made a dynamic comeback, scoring 2 goals after the 70th minute to tie the match at 2. Argentina had as many shots and 1 more shot on goal than South Africa. Argentina ranks 28th in the FIFA Women’s Rankings.

Sweden, the favorite in Group G, beat South Africa 2-1 but needed to pull off the come-from-behind win after getting down 1-0 in the 48th minute. It had 5 more shots and 2 more on frame than South Africa. It then blasted Italy, winning 5-0 Saturday. Sitting 3rd in the world rankings, Sweden is among the favorites to win the World Cup.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -110 | U: -125)

Argentina vs. Sweden picks and predictions

Prediction

Sweden 3, Argentina 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS. LEAN BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO (-145).

Sweden blasted an Italian side that ranks 16th in the world and also had beaten Argentina. In doing so, it allowed just two shots on goal. That’s an impressive performance.

While South Africa managed to break through, it had just 4 shots on goal against Sweden, netting 1. Argentina’s offense hasn’t been great and should struggle against a top side like Sweden, as it had just 1 shot on goal against Italy.

The moneyline plays are either too improbable or too expensive to play, but considering Argentina’s lack of consistent offense, take BOTH TEAMS NOT TO SCORE (-145).

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (-115).

The Swedish attack took a little bit to get going in its 1st game, but in its last 135 minutes (game and a half), it has 7 goals. It has scored 3 or more in 3 of its last 4 games and has scored 5 or more in 2 of its last 4.

Sweden has scored at least 3 goals in 4 of 7 games in 2023. There’s no reason to believe it will slow down even if it gets up by a goal or 2 against Argentina.

While Argentina is unlikely to score, and even the odds for both teams to score insinuate that, Sweden has allowed a goal in 4 of its last 5 games as well, making it reasonable to think Argentina could get on the board.

While Under this total has been hot in the tournament, in games in which one of these teams has performed, it is 3-1 O/U. Take OVER 2.5 (-115).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Argentina vs. South Africa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Argentina vs. South Africa odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

South Africa (0 wins, 0 draws, 1 loss) battles Argentina (0-0-1) Thursday from Forsyth Barr Stadium. Kickoff in the 2nd Group G match for each nation is set for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. South Africa odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

South Africa almost pulled off the unthinkable in a 2-1 loss to Sweden. It went up 1-0 with a 48th-minute goal from M Hildah Magaia. South Africa ended the game with 4 shots on goal amid its 10 shots, respectively 2 and 5 fewer than its opponent. It had just 31% possession as well. South Africa is 54th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings while Sweden sits 3rd.

Argentina ranks 28th and also lost its opening match, 1-0 to Italy conceding in the 87th minute. Argentina’s offense struggled mightily, ending with just 5 shots and 1 on target despite having 47% of the possession. It had won 5 of its 6 friendlies coming into the event, having taken down No. 26 New Zealand in back-to-back matches in February.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +150 | U: -210)

Argentina vs. South Africa picks and predictions

Prediction

Argentina 1, South Africa 0

Moneyline (ML)

BET ARGENTINA (+105).

Argentina struggled in its opener, but Italy and Sweden were both the favorites in the group, so its losing isn’t too shocking. It has a solid track record this calendar year which is worth backing. It beat Venezuela 3-0 on April 9. Venezuela even sits above South Africa in the world rankings.

Despite having scored, South Africa had minimal possession and was generally dominated against the top-tier Sweden. While Argentina will be more at its level, South Africa’s lack of control was concerning and could lead to fewer counter-attacking opportunities, which is where it did most of its work.

Argentina’s offense is better than it showed and South Africa had likely the best game it has had in recent history. Expect Argentina to improve and South Africa likely to fade to its mean. Take ARGENTINA (+105).

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN ALTERNATE UNDER 1.5 (+145).

Argentina had 1 shot on goal while South Africa had just 4 in each team’s opener. Neither team really showed much offensively, and against each other in a tournament in which the Under has been incredibly hot, backing fewer goals is the smart move here.

South Africa will have to build through its back and have fewer counterattacks in this battle which should showcase its lesser-than-ideal technical side.

With the Under hot in the tournament and both teams have struggled in their 1st matchday, take the UNDER 1.5 (+145).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Italy vs. Argentina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Italy vs. Argentina odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[anyclip pubname=”2129″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8190″]

Italy and Argentina battle in the 1st action for both nations in the 2023 Women’s World Cup on Monday. Kickoff in the Group G matchup from Eden Park is set for 1 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Italy vs. Argetina odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Italy is bringing a squad with little experience as it has just 3 players with 25-plus caps on the roster. Over the last 12 months, Italy has won 5 of 11 matches, losing 5 with 1 draw. Italy has won 3 of its last 4 matches, beating New Zealand 1-0 in a friendly on July 14.  It qualified by being the UEFA Group G winner.

Argentina qualified by being the 3rd-place winner in the 2022 Copa America Femenina. It has won 5 of 6 games in 2023, beating New Zealand 1-0 and 2-0 in February. It did lose 7-0 to Spain and 2-0 to Canada in late 2022. Argentina ranks 28th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings with Italy sitting 16th.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +130 | U: -175)

Italy vs. Argentina picks and predictions

Prediction

Italy 1, Argentina 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Argentina hasn’t played well against good competition over the last few years, but it did beat New Zealand twice. Italy has more talent and is a higher-ranked side, but isn’t worth a play at (-145).

I would take BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO (-140).

A team has been held scoreless in 2 straight games for Italy and in 5 of 6 for Argentina in 2023. Both have good defenses and haven’t consistently scored in the attack.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-175).

Piggybacking off that prediction, the Under is a good play here, though a bit costly. Italy has gone Under this total in 5 of its last 9 matches, and Argentina has gone Under in 4 of its last 6.

The 1st 4 games of this tournament went Under this total, and the only games to go north of it in the 1st 2 days were between a top-10 side and a nation outside of the top 30 in FIFA’s rankings (Spain beat Costa Rica 3-0 and USA beat Vietnam 3-0).

Both of these teams are in the top 30 and should be able to limit opportunities. Take the UNDER 2.5 (-175).

2022 World Cup: Argentina vs. France odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Argentina vs. France odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 2022 World Cup championship match on Sunday pits Argentina against France. Kickoff from Lusail Stadium is set for 10 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. France odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

It’s the No. 3 team in the world per FIFA men’s rankings against the 4th-best team and defending champs of the event that happens every 4 years. After almost a month in Qatar, fans will either see Argentine F Lionel Messi lift the 1st World Cup trophy of his legendary career or see a repeat celebration by France.

After losing 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in arguably the most shocking upset of the tournament, Argentina beat Mexico (2-0) and Poland (2-0) to win Group C. It then beat Australia (2-1), Netherlands (2-2, winning 4-3 in penalty kicks) and Croatia (3-0) to advance to the final.

France ripped through Group D, beating Australia (4-1) and Denmark (2-1) before losing to Tunisia (1-0). It beat Poland (3-1), England (2-1), and Morocco (2-0) to reach the final. In France’s most challenging game against England, it had 8 fewer shots, 3 fewer on target, and just 42% possession.

Prediction

Argentina 2, France 1

Moneyline (ML)

LEAN ARGENTINA (+170).

It almost feels like destiny at this point.

Argentina has dominated to this point. In its most competitive game, against the Netherlands, it had 8 more shots and 3 more on target. Also, the French style of play could lean toward allowing a player like Messi to find the gaps.

France doesn’t play a high press like some sides, and those types of openings, like it saw with England, could lead to opportunities for its opponents. Messi, as we’ve seen all tournament, can fit balls where no one else can, and that should be apparent.

With the extra day to recover and the French side having battled some illness in the camp, this outcome feels like the best side on the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (+135).

Argentina’s offense has been explosive. It is averaging 2 goals per game in this tournament, having scored on some of the better defensive teams in the world, Netherlands and Croatia.

France is not shy of attacking prowess either. Outside of the lone game that France didn’t try (their last group stage match with the group already clinched), France has scored at least 2 in every game and has scored 3 or more twice.

F Kylian Mbappe is one of the most explosive forwards in the world. Couple his talent with the 6-foot-4 F Olivier Giroud, and the France attack should have a solid height advantage over the Argentine backline.

Over 2.5 has hit in 15 of 21 World Cup finals but is just 1-4 O/U in the last 5. Nonetheless, the attacks here make the OVER 2.5 (+145) my FAVORITE PLAY.

2022 World Cup: Croatia vs. Argentina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Croatia vs. Argentina odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Argentina battles Croatia on Tuesday in the 1st of 2 World Cup semifinals. Kickoff from Lusail Stadium in Qatar is set for 2 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Croatia vs. Argentina odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

With 2 wins in the group stage, Argentina won Group C. They then beat Australia 2-1 in the Round of 16, ending with 9 more shots and 4 more shots on target. Argentina, the No. 3 team in FIFA’s world rankings, met the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Argentina was leading 2-0 in the 80th minute when the Netherlands found a way to score 2 goals in the final 10 minutes plus stoppage time. Argentina advanced by winning 4-3 in penalty kicks. They had 8 more shots and 3 more on target than the Netherlands.

Croatia also had an exciting quarterfinal matchup. They went into extra time 0-0 with No. 1 Brazil. F Neymar scored in the 105th minute just to have F Bruno Petkovic equalize in the 117th.

Croatia, No. 12 in FIFA’s rankings, had 12 fewer shots and 10 fewer on target, but won 4-2 in penalty kicks. Croatia has given up just 3 goals in 5 games, holding Belgium and Morocco scoreless.

Tuesday’s winner will play the winner of Wednesday’s France-Morocco match for the title.

Prediction

Argentina 2, Croatia 1

Moneyline (ML)

BET ARGENTINA (-122).

Argentina is 1 of the few teams that have the decision-making in the midfield to counter what M Luka Modric can throw at them. Modric is 37 and should have tired legs this far in the tournament.

The difference here is how each team played in the semifinal with F Lionel Messi and Argentina competing at the same level as the Netherlands. Croatia, on the other hand, was outplayed by Brazil but managed to advance due to their opponent failing to capitalize.

The Messi-led side should be able to make their opportunities count, netting 2 in just 5 shots on frame against the Netherlands.

Croatia allowed 11 shots on goal and just 1 goal against Brazil. If Argentina ends with those figures, expect multiple shots to end in the back of the net. At (-122), back Argentina to win in regulation.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (+150).

The Croatian pace has been the main reason they have struggled to score. They do not play at a high pace with an aging, yet technically sound,  midfield. Argentina scored in the 1st half against the Netherlands, and that helped open things up. That could certainly be the case Tuesday.

Croatia has played well defensively, but holding Morocco and Belgium without a goal isn’t as impressive as it seems as both had struggled to score for most of the tournament.

If Argentina can strike in the 1st half and make Croatia get out of their comfort zone, expect the OVER 2.5 (+150) to be the better option.

2022 World Cup: Netherlands vs. Argentina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Netherlands vs. Argentina quarterfinal match odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Netherlands and Argentina meet in a quarterfinal matchup Friday at Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail at 2 p.m. ET (FOX/Telemundo). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Netherlands vs. Argentina odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Netherlands dispatched the USMNT last Saturday 3-1 in the Round of 16. Now, the Oranje look to make manager Louis van Gaal proud, trying to oust Argentina.

The good news is that Memphis Depay finally appears to be fully fit after a nagging injury going into the group stage, and he is likely to be available for the entirety of the match.

The Dutch went 2-0-1 in Group A play, including a pair of 2-0 wins over Senegal and the host nation Qatar sandwiching a 1-1 draw with Ecuador.

Things certainly got off to an uneven start for La Albiceleste, as Argentina was stunned 2-1 in the group stage opener by Saudi Arabia. It might have been the best thing to happen, as Argentina bounced back with a pair of 2-0 wins over Mexico and Poland, before showing Australia the door in the Round of 16, winning 2-1.

Lionel Messi has been doing Messi-like things, scoring 3 goals with 4 points through 4 matches, while Julian Alvarez has bagged 2 goals. Cody Gakpo is the leading scorer for Holland, posting 3 goals in 4 matches.

Argentina might have to go it without Angel Di Maria, who is nursing a muscle strain and is a question mark for the match.

Prediction

Argentina 1, Netherlands 1

Moneyline (ML)

I really like the DRAW (+220) play for a chance to double up. These teams should play to a 1-1 score through full time, requiring extra time and perhaps penalty kicks to decide a winner.

A draw play on the 3-way line is a winner if the match is tied through 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under 2.5 (-175) price is a little too rich for my blood, and I feel as if both teams are going to be able to find the back of the net in the match. There is world-class talent on both sides.

As such, roll the dice on YES (+110): BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE at plus-money. In case you’re new to wagering on soccer, if this is a scoreless draw, similar to the Morocco-Spain match in the Round of 16, going to penalty kicks, this would not be a winning play if both teams score on PKs. It’s a winner only if both sides score in regulation.

In addition, picking the CORRECT SCORE, 1-1 (+430), could help you multiply your initial stake by more than 4 times. That’s too hard to pass up.

2022 World Cup: Argentina vs. Australia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Argentina vs. Australia odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

We move on to the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup, and Argentina (2 win, 1 loss, 0 draws) and Australia (2-1-0) meet Saturday at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan at 2 p.m. ET (FOX/Telemundo). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Australia odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina topped Group C, rebounding from a stunning 2-1 loss against Saudi Arabia in its opener. La Albiceleste ripped off a pair of 2-0 wins over Mexico and Poland in the past 2 outings to assert control of the group.

Superstar F Lionel Messi has managed 2 goals with an assist in his 3 matches to date, and M Enzo Fernandez has managed a goal and assist.

Australia was buried 4-1 by France in the opener, but it rebounded for a pair of 1-0 victories over Tunisia and Denmark to secure the 2nd spot in Group D despite a -1 goal differential.

The Socceroos have received goals from F Craig Goodwin, F Mitchell Duke and F Mathew Leckie through 3 matches in Qatar.

Prediction

Argentina 1, Australia 0

Moneyline (ML)

Argentina (-400) will cost you 4 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk. The public must have went hard on Australia (+1200) as Argentina was -490 late Friday night. Australia doesn’t really have the offensive depth to make a run any further than this match. Argentina has the world-class players, and Messi will at least carry it through to the Quarterfinals.

The better play is AUSTRALIA +2 (+100), as the Socceroos have shown it has the defense, posting 2 clean sheets. Argentina has 2 straight clean sheets, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 2.5 (-110) is the best option on the board.

Both of these teams have keepers who have posted clean sheets, and goals should be at a premium.

If you really like a little risk, play UNDER 1.5 (+270) for a chance to nearly triple up, but go with just a half-unit at most on that.

2022 World Cup: Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In the 1st Group C group stage match, Argentina will take on Saudi Arabia Tuesday with kickoff at Lusail Stadium set for 5 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina won the Copa América in 2021 by defeating Brazil 1-0 in the final. Winger Ángel Di María scored the lone goal in the 22nd minute.

Forward Lionel Messi is the favorite to win the Golden Ball as player of the tournament at +750 and has the 3rd-best odds to win the Golden Boot as top goalscorer at +1000.

Argentina is ranked No. 3 in the FIFA world rankings while Saudi Arabia is No. 51. Argentina has the 2nd-best odds to win the World Cup at +550 while Saudi Arabia is tied with 4 other countries for the worst odds at +50000.

Argentina is a -260 favorite to win Group C, which also includes Mexico and Poland.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (-170).

I expect Argentina to make a statement in their 1st game to make up for past World Cup performances. Argentina should have motivation to win by margin and prove that it is rightfully a favorite this year.

Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball: Spain vs. Argentina odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball picks, tips and best bets.

In Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball action Thursday, Spain and Argentina play in an 8 a.m. ET tip-off at Saitama Super Arena. Below, we preview the Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Spain posted an 88-77 win over Japan in its Group C opener Monday. PG Ricky Rubio dropped 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, and he added 9 assists. F Victor Claver was a solid secondary scoring option with 13 points on a perfect 6-for-6 night from the field.

Spain also has the Gasol brothers, as well as C Willy Hernangomez and SF Alex Abrines, who rained in three triples to score 11 points off the bench. So Spain is deep with NBA, or former NBA, talent.

Argentina, meanwhile, couldn’t contain PG Luka Doncic and Slovenia in its Group C opener. It fell 118-110, as Doncic pumped in 48 points. Argrentina F Luis Scola was sharp, posting 23 points, while G Facundo Campazzo had 21 points, including three triples.

Spain vs. Argentina: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spain 91, Argentina 78

Money line (ML)

Spain (-375) will cost you nearly four times your potential return, and that’s a little too rich against a decent side like Argentina.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

SPAIN -8.5 (-115) is a good play against an Argentinian side which showed plenty of offense but also had very little answers on defense in its opening group game.

The Spaniards should be able to put it on their South American counterparts and end up with a win by double digits.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 163.5 (-115) is a very strong play, as Spain has a ton of NBA talent and will be able to pile up the points against a team that gave up 118 points in its opening game.

Summer Olympics Men’s Soccer: Spain vs. Argentina odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Soccer betting picks, tips and best bets.

In their final Group Stage match Wednesday, Spain (1-0-1) takes on Argentina (1-1-0) in a 7 a.m. ET kickoff at Saitama Stadium. Below, we preview the Spain vs. Argentina odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Spain played well in Euro 2020, and while most of those players will not be on the pitch, they will have an impressive young core on the field. MF Pedri Gonzalez should be the star in the middle.

Argentina’s only win, in which D Facundo Medina netted an early goal, was over Egypt. It’s only other match was a 2-0 loss to Australia. This will be a tough test for Argentina as a win puts it atop the group.

Spain vs. Argentina: Odds, picks and predictions

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Spain -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Argentina +300 (bet $100 to win $300) | Draw +240
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -105 | U: -135)

Prediction

Spain 1, Argentina 0

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to SPAIN (-115) as it’s the more talented side. It’s also the only team in Group C to not look at all flawed.

While it drew with Egypt, Spain had almost four times the shots and 71% of possession. Its other match was a 1-0 win over Australia. While it just needs a draw to win the group, this could be a statement match for the better side.

Argentina has 1 goal by a defender and hasn’t been able to get much going. It’d be shocking to see Argentina score against a dominant Spanish defense.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-135) as the teams just haven’t scored often. There have been only 4 goals in all four games so far in Group C play.

With that in mind, I wouldn’t bet on this being a goal-heavy match. Spain GK Unai Simon, who plays club soccer with Athletic Bilbao, has yet to allow a goal so far this tournament.

Spain has a great goalkeeper and the Argentinian forwards combined for just 5 shots in their first two games. Argentina has yet to see any forward or midfielder net a goal.

The Under is the easy play as the teams have combined for 2 goals scored so far.
