Shaq Barrett has hoop dreams in latest Instagram post

Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett shows off his range while playing a little basketball.

Bucs linebacker Shaquil Barrett had a 2019 season for the ages.

The former Denver Bronco, who came to the Bucs last offseason on a one-year deal, thrived in his first season in Tampa Bay playing for Todd Bowles. Barrett led the league with 19.5 sacks, which also broke the Bucs’ single-season franchise mark.

The Bucs placed the franchise tag on Barrett, which ensures he’ll be back with the team in 2020 (and hopefully longer). And while Barrett proved to be a star linebacker, it turns out he also has dreams of being a star in another sport.

Take a look at Barrett’s recent Instagram post.

Ranking the Buccaneers’ 3 biggest unrestricted free agents

Find out which three players the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can’t afford to lose this offseason.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have plenty of cap room to play with this offseason, which is good news for a team with a number of big-name free agents.

After finishing 7-9 following two-straight 5-11 seasons, the Buccaneers are a team on the up-and-up who should be taken seriously in the NFC next season. But, they’ll have to make some big financial decisions in the coming months.

So, who are the three most important unrestricted free agents for Tampa Bay this offseason? Let’s take a look.

What did Christian McCaffrey have to say on Shaq Barrett’s Instagram post?

See what Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey had to say on Shaq Barrett’s latest Instagram post.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett had a monster season in 2019, his first with the Bucs. The former Denver Bronco, who won a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl 50, signed a one-year deal with the Bucs last offseason and more than outperformed his contract.

Barrett led the NFL this season with 19.5 sacks, shattering the Bucs’ franchise record for sacks in a single season, which had been held by Hall of Famer Warren Sapp since 2000 (16.5). Barrett is likely going to receive a huge payday from Tampa Bay this offseason, and he was more than happy to brag about his big achievement on his Instagram account the other day.

One NFL player who couldn’t help but comment on the post, and point out Barrett’s Colorado beginnings, was Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.

Take a look.

McCaffrey, as you may or may not know, is the son of former Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, who won a pair of Super Bowls with the Broncos when John Elway was quarterback. Even though Christian plays for a different team than his father did, he still has love for the Broncos… and Barrett.

Shaq Barrett shows love to Bucs fans and Warren Sapp on Instagram after record-setting day

See what Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett had to say on Instagram today after his record-setting day in Week 17.

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have lost yesterday’s Week 17 finale against the Atlanta Falcons, there was still much to celebrate — namely, the record-setting day by linebacker Shaquil Barrett.

Barrett, who came to Tampa Bay on a one-year deal in the offseason, entered the game tied with Warren Sapp for the franchise record for sacks in a single season at 16.5. Barrett blew that number away with his three-sack performance against the Falcons, finishing the year with 19.5.

The Pro Bowl linebacker is set to become a free agent, but has made it clear he wants to stay with the Buccaneers and be a part of their future. And, today he took to Instagram to show love to both Bucs fans and Warren Sapp for their support and love, further proof of the strong relationship he’s established with this city and fan base.

Take a look.

Bill Barnwell calls Shaq Barrett’s breakout season something ‘nobody saw coming’

See what Bill Barnwell of ESPN had to say about the breakout year of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett.

It’s hard to believe, but there are just two games left in the 2019 regular season.

It feels like just yesterday we were talking about the hiring of Bruce Arians, the Bucs’ upcoming draft and the release of veteran Gerald McCoy. An offseason with such big moves led to some big expectations for this team entering the season, namely for quarterback Jameis Winston.

While Winston has had his ups and downs this season, one Bucs player who has been a revelation is linebacker Shaq Barrett, who joined Tampa Bay on a one-year deal during the offseason.

Barrett currently leads the NFL with 16.5 sacks, which is also with Warren Sapp for the Bucs’ single-season record. Barrett’s breakout season was one of the 15 surprises that ESPN’s Bill Barnwell says “nobody saw coming” at the beginning of the season.

Here’s part of what Barnwell had to say about Barrett after stating how surprised he was that the NFL sack leader would be a Broncos castoff.

“I did not see the Shaq Barrett season coming. An undrafted free agent in 2014, he showed some promise when he debuted the following season, racking up 5.5 sacks and 12 knockdowns while playing 45% of the defensive snaps. Buried behind DeMarcus Ware, Von Miller and Shane Ray, Barrett finally got a chance to start in 2017 and disappointed… It seemed like Barrett might have been a flash in a pan when he followed a run of nine sacks in four games to start the season by picking up just 1.5 sacks over the following four. That has not been the case. He has responded with five sacks and 14 knockdowns over his past four games.”

Barnwell goes on to talk about Barrett’s pending free agency and what we can expect in terms of a deal between him and the Bucs.

“Barrett isn’t going to get [Von] Miller’s six-year, $114.5 million contract this offseason, but as Bruce Arians admittedly recently, Barrett ‘ain’t going anywhere.’ The Bucs could use their franchise and transition tags to keep Barrett and Jameis Winston in-house for the short term, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they negotiated a multiyear deal with their star pass-rusher.”

Barrett, himself, sounds like he wants to return to the Bucs next year if they can strike a deal. It’s in both parties’ best interest to get a deal done. Barrett has flourished in this Todd Bowles system and the Bucs have an emerging superstar to play alongside Devin White.

It’s a win-win situation for both sides.

Why did Warren Sapp reach out to Shaq Barrett on Instagram?

Find out what Hall of Famer Warren Sapp had to say to Shaq Barrett on Instagram after Barrett tied the franchise’s sack record.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a chance to finish the regular season on a high note. After a 3-7 start, the Bucs have won four-straight games and five of their last six to pull their record back to .500 at 7-7.

While quarterback Jameis Winston has been receiving much of the attention lately because of his historic play, the Bucs’ other star this season has been linebacker Shaquil Barrett, who joined the Bucs on a one-year deal in the offseason.

Barrett currently leads the league with 16.5 sacks, which is also tied for the Bucs’ single-season franchise record, along with Hall of Famer Warren Sapp. Turns out Sapp reached out to Barrett after the latter tied the record in Sunday’s 5 win over the Lions.

Take a look.

While Barrett is only signed through this season, it sounds like both sides are planning on him returning next year. Bruce Arians recently said Barrett “‘ain’t going nowhere,” and now, this update from Scott Smith makes it sound like Barrett is planning on returning, too.

The Bucs better not lose it. Barrett is a young athletic linebacker who is flourishing under Todd Bowles. Both Barrett and Devin White could anchor this defense for years to come.

That’d be good news for the Bucs, and bad news for the rest of the league.

Bruce Arians says Shaq Barrett ‘ain’t going nowhere’

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians thinks linebacker and impending free agent Shaq Barrett will return in 2020.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on a four-game winning-streak after Sunday’s 38-17 win over the Detroit Lions. The Bucs saw quarterback Jameis Winston become the first player in NFL history to post back-to-back games with 450 yards passing.

On the defensive side, linebacker Shaquil Barrett had a sack that gave him 16.5 on the year, tying him with Hall of Famer Warren Sapp for the Bucs’ single-season record.

Without question, Barrett has been the best player on this defense all year. And, as a pending free agent, some Bucs fans may be worried these final two games will be the last they see of Barrett in a Tampa uniform.

But, according to Bruce Arians, it looks like Barrett will be wearing one for years to come. At least, that’s the plan.

For what it’s worth, Barrett seems to be all for staying in Tampa Bay next year. I’m sure striking a deal with him is at the top of the team’s to-do list once the season ends.
