Alabama’s all-time record against the Auburn Tigers

What is Alabama’s all-time record against the Auburn Tigers?

The ‘Iron Bowl’ is known as one of the great rivalries in all of college football. This Saturday the rivalry will be renewed for the 86th time in its intense history.

Auburn will enter the contest with a 6-5 record (3-4 in the SEC) while Alabama will roll into the matchup with a 10-1 overall record (6-1 in the SEC) and the SEC West already locked up.

As we near another matchup with the two in-state rivals, let’s take a closer look at the series history.

The Tide and Tigers first met all the way back in February of 1893 when Auburn defeated Alabama 32-22 in Birmingham. Auburn would go on to win seven of the first ten matchups between the two programs.

The rivalry was suspended for a span of 41 years due to player per diems and officiating. When the rivalry resumed in 1948, Alabama would hand Auburn a 55-0 beating. That remains the largest margin of victory in the series history.

In a series that has consisted of some of the most impactful moments in college football history, Alabama holds the overall series advantage at 47-37-1 over the Auburn Tigers.

This Saturday Alabama will travel to Auburn where the Tide has won just five games in fifteen tries.

You can catch the action at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS.

Wisconsin and Nebraska are playing for a trophy the Cornhuskers have never held

Wisconsin and Nebraska are playing for a trophy the Cornhuskers have never held

Wisconsin and Nebraska began playing for the Freedom Trophy back in 2014. The trophy became the third Wisconsin plays for in rivalry games during the season, joining Paul Bunyan’s Axe (Minnesota) and the Heartland Trophy (Iowa).

The Badgers and Cornhuskers have a history that goes back to 1965–a game Nebraska won 37-0. But it is not a very storied history, as the two schools did not meet from 1974 until 2011 when Nebraska joined the Big Ten.

Nebraska has won one game against Wisconsin since joining the conference–a 2012 triumph that was quickly avenged with a 70-31 Wisconsin victory in the Big Ten Championship that year. Well, the Freedom trophy was introduced two years later in 2014.

The results from every game between the two schools since then?

  • 2014: Wisconsin wins 59-24
  • 2015: Wisconsin wins 23-21
  • 2016: Wisconsin wins 23-17
  • 2017: Wisconsin wins 38-17
  • 2018: Wisconsin wins 41-24
  • 2019: Wisconsin wins 37-21

Four facts about Texas’ series history against West Virginia

Everything you need to know about the series history between Texas and West Virginia.

Texas’ season is on the line this weekend, as a loss to West Virginia effectively ends their shot at a bowl game.

It is quite the hole Steve Sarkisian and his new staff have found themselves in. A team that was once viewed as a dark horse playoff team, and seen as having a great chance to win the Big 12, is now back where they have been for the past decade, which is being a major disappointment.

To make matters worse, they are without star running back Bijan Robinson for the rest of the season, and the offense has yet to experience consistency from either quarterback whether it be Casey Thompson or Hudson Card.

Even with losing five consecutive games, with the last one being a devastating overtime loss to Kansas, Texas can salvage any dignity and make it to a bowl game if they win their next two. Doing so would perhaps quiet down the rumors of a lost locker room, and possibly portray Sarkisian in that golden boy light he was in at the beginning of the season.

Standing in their way is a West Virginia team that has had a very similar trajectory of underperforming after coming into the season with lofty goals and expectations that this would be the year it clicked for them.

Texas and West Virginia have not met as many times as you would think, and the series is pretty even in their limited meetings. Here is everything you need to know about Texas’ series against West Virginia.

LSU vs UL-Monroe: Short series history filled with Tigers domination

A look the brief series history between LSU and ULM, dominated by the Tigers.

The series history between these two Louisiana schools is very short-lived. In fact, they have met on the football field just three times in their history. All three games have taken place since the year 2003. In the three games of the series, the Warhawks have scored a combined seven points. All three games were played in Death Valley, on Saturday it will become the fourth game in Baton Rouge for these two schools.

The 2003 season was a magical year for the LSU Tigers, it was the first time they won a national championship since the 1950s. In 1958 under head coach Paul Dietzel, the Tigers won the national championship. In 2003 when these two teams met, LSU would eventually get over the hump under head coach Nick Saban. The team was led by quarterback Matty Mauck who threw for three touchdowns in the game. In the second and third quarters combined, the Tigers outscored ULM 42-0 as they cruised to the win 49-7.

Lions hoping to break rough stretch in series vs. Steelers

Pittsburgh has won nine of the last 10 meetings in the series with the Lions

Sunday’s meeting in Heinz Field will be the 33rd time the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers have met since 1934. And while the lifetime series is close, the Steelers have dominated the matchup of two of the NFL’s oldest teams.

Pittsburgh has won nine of the last 10 meetings in the series. The Lions one win over the Steelers since 1986 came in 1998 at the Pontiac Silverdome. Despite Barry Sanders managing to rush for just 33 yards on 20 carries — a total that includes a 21-yard gain — Detroit still prevailed when Jason Hanson nailed his fourth field goal of the game to lift the Lions to a 19-16 overtime win.

The last meeting came in Pittsburgh in 2017 with the Steelers winning, 20-15. In that game, Matthew Stafford passed for 423 yards but the Detroit offense settled for just five Matt Prater field goals.

Many of the games have been close. The 2001 game is the exception. Pittsburgh was 11-2 and the Lions stood at 1-12 entering that one, and the Steelers proved the records were legit in a 47-14 whooping where the Lions managed just 11 first downs with Mike McMahon under center.

Detroit does have a lopsided victory of its own in the series. Back on Thanksgiving in 1983, Eric Hipple threw two TD passes to Ulysses Norris as part of a 45-3 spanking of the visiting Steelers. Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks completed just 11 of their 33 pass attempts and the Lions intercepted five of those errant throws.

The wins in 1983 and 1998 are the only two by Detroit in the Super Bowl era, with Pittsburgh winning the other 12. The Lions did win the first four meetings back in the 1930s and also went on a 6-0-1 run from 1950 to 1962, an era where the Steelers were consistently the inferior team to Detroit.

6 things to know about the Eagles ahead of the Lions’ Week 8 matchup

Here are a few things to know about the Eagles, the history between the two teams and other tidbits that will help prepare for Sunday’s meeting in Ford Field.

The Detroit Lions welcome the Philadelphia Eagles to Ford Field on Sunday for an NFC matchup in Week 8. It’s not been a great season for either team, with the Lions entering the game winless while the Eagles arrive at 2-5.

This might be the Lions best chance to pick up a victory over the entire season calendar. Having said that, the Eagles are also fully capable of humbling the Lions and extending the losing streak to 12 games, dating back to last season too.

Here are a few things to know about the Eagles, the history between the two teams and other tidbits that will help prepare for Sunday’s meeting in Ford Field.
