2022 NFL mock draft: 7-round projections for the Seahawks

Here’s how all seven rounds of the 2022 NFL draft could shake out for the Seattle Seahawks

The 2022 NFL draft is just days away, and your favorite NFL team is about to add tons of young talent to help improve their chances of success in the upcoming season.

Here’s how all seven rounds of this year’s draft could shake out for the Seattle Seahawks:

Seahawks 2022 NFL mock draft: The pure best player available edition

In our latest seven-round mock the plan was to take the highest-ranked player available regardless of his position.

In a perfect world, the Seahawks would take the best player available in every single round of the draft. Realistically, that doesn’t happen because every team in the NFL has needs – even those that just won the Super Bowl.

That said, we would be very curious to see what their 2022 NFL draft class would look like if they were able to go BPA – not just at No. 9 overall – but for the entire draft. In our latest seven-round mock that was the plan: take the highest-ranked player available regardless of his position or what the team’s roster needs are.

We stayed true to the rule. That’s how in the end we wound up picking a safety first, a punter and two running backs. However, we did get some high-quality athletes. Here’s how it went down.

Seahawks select ‘Sauce’ first in this 7-round mock draft from ESPN

One of the more interesting mocks we’ve seen this week is a seven-rounder from ESPN’s Jordan Reid.

The Seahawks are a little over two weeks away from the 2022 NFL draft. One of the more interesting mocks we’ve seen this week is a seven-rounder from ESPN’s Jordan Reid.

Here’s who he picked in the first three rounds for Seattle plus some highlights and a popular pro comp for each of them.

Pick No. 9: Cincinnati CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner

With plenty of draft capital over the next two years following the Russell Wilson trade, the Seahawks have an opportunity to reshape the roster on both sides of the ball. Gardner fits well into the defensive scheme and has the traits of the prototype they have coveted in previous years.”

Pro comp: Richard Sherman

Pick No. 40: Ole Miss QB Matt Corral

“The Seahawks could take a chance on Corral here as a replacement for Russell Wilson. Corral is a fast processor with a lightning-quick release and quick feet. They could get a steal here.”

Pro comp: Baker Mayfield

Pick No. 41: USC EDGE Drake Jackson

“With their second of two second-round selections, the Seahawks could take Jackson to provide help off the edge. He’s a quick-footed and long rusher who fits this scheme.”

Pro comp: Markus Golden

Pick No. 72: Kentucky OT Darian Kinnard

“The Seahawks could use help at offensive tackle, and the 6-foot-5, 322-pound Kinnard is a perfect fit in the team’s downhill running scheme. There are mixed opinions in the NFL on his best position — he could move inside to guard — but he is extremely strong at the point of attack.”

Pro comp: Cody Ford

Seahawks 2022 NFL mock draft: The post-free agency edition

Unfortunately, this roster still has plenty of holes to go around on both sides of the ball.

As the NFL’s free agency period enters its third week, things are beginning to wind down. The Seahawks had a lot of cap space coming in but that quickly dried up after they re-signed most of their own free agents. The good news is that Seattle hit needs along the edge and at slot cornerback, along with a few other spots. Unfortunately, this roster still has plenty of holes to go around on both sides of the ball.

In our latest seven-round 2022 Seahawks mock draft, we tried to plug as many of them as possible. Here’s how it turned out.

Seahawks 2022 NFL mock draft: The post-Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner edition

The team’s roster needs look a lot different than the last time we conducted a seven-round mock draft.

The Seattle Seahawks roster may look dramatically different in one week, as the NFL’s legal tampering period begins later today followed by the official start of free agency.

After agreeing to trade Russell Wilson to the Broncos and releasing linebacker Bobby Wagner, the team’s roster needs look a lot different than the last time we conducted a seven-round mock draft. In this latest edition, we did our best to fill those new holes while assuming they’ll be able to take care of a few of them (mostly the offensive line) via free agency. Here’s how our mock draft played out.

Seahawks land Oregon DE Kayvon Thibodeaux in this ESPN 2022 mock draft

In a new 2022 mock draft from Todd McShay at ESPN, Seattle uses that pick on Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux.

So, the Seattle Seahawks are trading their franchise quarterback and thinking about replacing him with a creep. They’re also releasing their legendary future Hall of Fame middle linebacker Bobby Wagner and likely beginning a total rebuild. On the bright side, at least they have a lot more draft capital today than they did yesterday before the Russell Wilson-to-Denver deal was announced.

Now armed with eight selections – including the No. 9 overall pick from the Broncos – the Seahawks are in position to land a real difference-maker in the first round for the first time in several years. In a new 2022 mock draft from Todd McShay at ESPN, Seattle uses that pick on Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, one of the top-two edge rusher prospects in this class.

“I’ve mentioned that I still want to see a little more fire out of him on a down-to-down basis, and that’s still true. But there’s no doubt he has the talent to be a difference-maker on an NFL defense. And Seattle’s unit could use that: Its 34 sacks tied for No. 22 last season, while its 38.7% pass rush win rate ranked No. 20. Thibodeaux, who had seven sacks and 46 pressures last season, gets a new era of Seahawks football rolling.”

Thibodeaux is usually going higher than No. 9 in most mock drafts and we’d be surprised if he’s still on the board at that point. However, crazier things have happened in the draft. If Thibodeaux is available, picking him should be an easy call – unless Malik Willis is there.

Seahawks 2022 NFL mock draft 3.0: The All-Offense edition

In our third seven-round mock draft for 2022 we decided to go with an all-offense draft class.

The Seattle Seahawks have work to do this offseason to improve a roster that just posted its first losing season in 10 years. Defensively, the team can best improve by hiring a more aggressive defensive coordinator and getting a pass rush boost. On offense, they need to reload along the line of scrimmage and add more weapons for Russell Wilson if they hope to catch up with stacked division rivals like the Rams and the 49ers.

In our third seven-round mock draft for 2022 we decided to go with an all-offense draft class. Here’s how the Seahawks made out in our mock.

Seahawks pick Georgia CB in second round of this 2022 NFL mock draft

However, both Reed and Jones are about to become free agents.

The Seahawks appear to be in much better shape at cornerback than they were heading into the 2021 season. At the very least, they have a solid top three options on the outside in Tre Brown, D.J. Reed and Sidney Jones. However, both Reed and Jones are about to become free agents and losing either one of them would represent a significant blow to their depth.

If that happens, reloading in the 2022 NFL draft might be a good idea. In a recent three-round mock by Luke Easterling at Draft Wire, Seattle used the No. 41 overall pick on Georgia cornerback Derion Kendrick.

Kendrick (six-foot, 190 pounds) has the look and the length of a prototypical Pete Carroll cornerback. He’s also got some ball skills, having posted seven interceptions and 14 passes defensed in 49 college games. Here’s a look at some of his tape.

Seahawks pick Washington OT, Ohio State EDGE in new 2022 NFL mock draft

In a new three-round mock by our friends at Draft Wire, the Seahawks hit the trenches with each of their first two picks.

The Seattle Seahawks don’t have the luxury of a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. That means their picks on Day 2 and Day 3 are that much more important for a franchise trying to rebound from its first losing season in a decade.

While the 2021 campaign hasn’t gone according to plan, Seattle still has a strong nucleus to continue building around. Assuming the front office doesn’t plan to blow the whole thing up and start over with a fresh slate next season, the best way to improve this roster will be to upgrade at several positions along both sides of the line of scrimmage.

In a new three-round mock by our friends at Draft Wire, the Seahawks hit the trenches with each of their first two picks.

In the second round at pick No. 41 overall, Seattle took Washington OT Jaxson Kirkland. After five years with the Huskies, Kirkland (6-foot-7, 310 pounds) will be making the jump to the pros.

Kirkland is agile for his size and has two years of experience right guard plus two more as a left tackle. That versatility could be valuable given the age of current starters Duane Brown (36 and a pending free agent) and Gabe Jackson (30).

Boosting Seattle’s pass rush should be another obvious move for a defense that struggles getting off the field.

In round three of the mock (pick No. 72 overall) the Seahawks selected Ohio State EDGE Zach Harrison (6-foot-6, 268 pounds).

Harrison has played 27 games with the Buckeyes, posting 7.5 sacks and 16 tackles for a loss.

Seahawks 2022 NFL mock draft 2.0: The all linemen edition

In our second seven-round 2022 mock draft, we attempted to do just that by going with a lineman-only draft class.

The Seattle Seahawks have hit the roughest patch of the Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson era. They’re in line to finish last in their division and post a losing record for the first time in 10 years.

How to get back into contention in an obscenely competitive NFC West is the subject of a lot of debate. Firing the coach, trading the franchise quarterback and starting over is one popular idea, but it’s unlikely to happen. Assuming Carroll is staying, what this team needs more than anything else is a rebuild on both sides of the trenches. In our second seven-round 2022 mock draft, we attempted to do just that by going with a lineman-only draft class. Here’s how it turned out.
