Auburn pitcher Cameron Keshock hits the transfer portal

Keshock is hitting the transfer portal after spending two seasons on the Plains.

Auburn baseball’s roster has been going through a number of changes since the end of its 2024 campaign, one that was very forgetful for the team to say the least. Many players have come and gone through the transfer portal, and the Tigers had a recent move that was made today.

Relief pitcher [autotag]Cameron Keshock[/autotag] is on his way out of the program after just two years on the Plains, leaving after having just minimal outings on the mound.

In his two years with Auburn, Keshock recorded just 8 1/3 innings of work out of the bullpen in 10 appearances. His sophomore season saw him throw 5 1/3 innings, giving up six earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. He posted 10.13 earned average for the year as well.

His best outing of the season came in the Tigers’ May 7 win at Georgia Tech, where he threw two full innings, giving up no runs on one hit, while walking one and striking out four.

Keshock’s departure is the latest to come out of the Auburn pitching staff since Zach Crotchfelt entered the portal and committed to Texas Tech in June.

While those two are the only pitchers to have left the program, the Tigers have added two in their place with [autotag]Mason Koch[/autotag] and [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag]. Nevertheless, head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] is still looking for major improvements to the pitching staff next season.

The Dutton brothers announce commitments to Auburn baseball

Auburn added a pair of transfers Friday after brothers Samuel and Andrew Dutton announced their intent to join the Tigers’ roster.

Auburn baseball is already preparing to build its roster to be in a better spot for the 2025 season after a disappointing campaign in 2024. The Tigers are looking for talent through the transfer portal, which has yielded some success in the early going.

Auburn earned two more additions through the portal today from two players that know each other very well. Brothers [autotag]Andrew Dutton[/autotag] and [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] make have committed to the Plains after successful seasons at their previous schools.

Andrew is entering his fifth season at the collegiate level after spending the last four years at Birmingham Southern, a program that just disbanded following the closure of the university. He is a middle infielder that has proven to be a great contact hitter at the plate.

Over his four years with the Panthers, he posted a .346 batting average and a .515 slugging percentage. A consistent starter for the historic former Division III school, he hit seven home runs and racked up 42 RBI, while also ending with a positive strikeout-to-walk ratio in his senior season.

His brother is Samuel Dutton, who makes his way east after spending the previous three years at SEC foe LSU. He is a pitcher that has primarily spent his time in Baton Rouge in the relief role.

In his time with the Tigers, Dutton put up a 6.02 earned run average in 86.2 innings of work. After working as a starter for much of his freshman year, he has only started four games over 39 appearances in the last two years, being moved into a bullpen role for LSU’s strong pitching staff. He has struck out 76 and walked 25 batters in his college career.

The brothers are the team’s third and fourth transfers since the season ended, with [autotag]Lucas Steele[/autotag] and [autotag]Eric Snow[/autotag] having already joined on with head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag].

Former LSU pitcher Samuel Dutton announces transfer SEC rival

Samuel Dutton will be joining his older brother, a Birmingham Southern transfer, at Auburn next spring.

Former LSU pitcher [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] has announced that he will be transferring to the Plains to play for the Auburn Tigers.

I don’t know if it is the only reason, but I know of one really good reason for him to transfer to Auburn. His older brother [autotag]Andrew Dutton[/autotag] is transferring to Auburn as well. Andrew spent last season playing for Birmingham Southern College which closed its doors permanently during the Panthers’ run to the Division III College World Series.

Dutton spent three seasons on the Bayou and he finished last season with an 0-2 record with a 5.86 ERA. He played in 20 games and struck out 29 hitters while only walking six. Dutton will be a senior next season while his brother will be a graduate student.

I don’t blame Sam for this decision at all. It’s so rare that two brothers get to play at the highest level of Division I baseball in the SEC. I hope for the best for both of them.

LSU baseball lands talented bullpen arm in the transfer portal

Chandler Dorsey served as the closer for South Florida last season.

For the past few days, LSU has been losing pitchers to the transfer portal left and right. The Tigers have lost five pitchers to the portal so far ([autotag]Aiden Moffett[/autotag], [autotag]Nic Bronzini[/autotag], [autotag]Cam Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Micah Bucknam[/autotag], [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag]). It is about time LSU got someone in return.

[autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] did just that as he landed a right-handed pitcher who pitched at South Florida last year. [autotag]Chandler Dorsey[/autotag] served as the closer for the Bulls and appeared in 22 games. He finished the season with a 2-1 record, a 3.42 ERA, and seven saves. He pitched a total of 26.1 innings and struck out 32 hitters while only walking 12.

Dorsey will likely be the first of many transfer pitchers Johnson and the Tigers will sign this offseason. Along with that, Johnson will try to retain some of the talented young players he had on the team last season. If the Tigers want to make it back to Omaha they will need a solid bullpen.

Veteran LSU pitcher Samuel Dutton enters transfer portal

A key arm from LSU’s bullpen is entering the transfer portal.

LSU baseball’s exodus of arms since the conclusion of the 2024 season continued on Monday as junior right-hander [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] entered the transfer portal, according to On3.

Dutton, a native of Southside, Alabama, appeared in 57 games and made 15 starts over the last three seasons, with most of the starts coming during his true freshman campaign in 2022 when he was the Sunday starter for most of the season.

Dutton made 20 appearances in 2024 with four starts, finishing with a 5.86 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched. He struck out 29 batters while walking just six, the best ratio of his college career so far.

He appeared in both regional losses to North Carolina, struggling as he couldn’t get through an inning in either outing while allowing two earned runs in each.

Luke Holman leads Tigers past Central Arkansas in LSU baseball debut

Luke Holman was impressive as he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed zero runs on three hits, 10 strikeouts and a walk.

In the second game of the season, LSU fans got their first look at transfer pitcher [autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] from Alabama. Holman was impressive as he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed zero runs on three hits, 10 strikeouts, and a walk. He looked like he was in mid-season form as he led LSU to a low-scoring 2-0 win against Central Arkansas on Saturday.

The same thing can’t be said for the LSU bats. There was a nearly 20-degree difference between the weather Friday and Saturday. The Tiger bats went cold just like the weather.

Through five innings, LSU only had three hits and one run. That lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when [autotag]Stephen Milam[/autotag] hit an RBI single to right field to score [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag].

[autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] came into the game to pitch for Holman with a runner on first and one out in the sixth inning. [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] then made an incredible catch in the outfield for out No. 2 and Herring struck out the next hitter to get out of the inning with the 1-0 lead intact.

In the top of the seventh inning, [autotag]Fidel Ulloa[/autotag] came into pitch with one out and a runner on first and second. Ulloa is another transfer pitcher LSU picked up. He came to LSU after spending two years at San Joaquin Delta College.

He struck out the first two hitters he faced to send us to the bottom of the seventh clinging to a 1-0 lead.

With two outs in the top of the eighth inning, [autotag]DJ Primeaux[/autotag] entered the game to pitch with runners on first and second with two outs. Primeaux got the first batter he faced to ground out and we headed to the bottom of the inning with LSU still up 1-0.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] gave LSU some breathing room as he hit his second homer in his second game of the year. His solo shot wrapped around the foul pole in right field and gave LSU a 2-0 lead.

[autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] entered in the top of the ninth inning to try to get his first save of the season. Dutton allowed a single but a flyout and two strikeouts secured the 2-0 victory for LSU.

The Tigers will face VMI again on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.

Tigers drop series opener to South Carolina after rain delay

The stage was set for game one between two top-ten teams in Columbia, South Carolina. Paul Skenes vs Will Sanders.

The stage was set for game one between two top-ten teams in Columbia, South Carolina. [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] vs [autotag]Will Sanders[/autotag]. Two teams coming into the game on fire.

For once this season, Skenes seemed human in a 13-5 loss to the Gamecocks.

South Carolina started the game off strong with a two-run blast in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. In the top of the second, LSU got one of those runs back thanks to a [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] single to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the third inning, Carolina hit a solo shot to increase their lead to 3-1. After that, mother nature decided to intervene. The game was delayed in the top of the fourth inning. When play resumed both of the original starters were done for the day.

[autotag]Micah Bucknam[/autotag] came in to pitch for [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] in the fifth inning and South Carolina greeted him with a lot of noise. The Gamecocks hit a grand slam and a solo shot to increase their lead to 8-1 after five innings. Carolina scored another run in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to make it 9-1.

In the top of the seventh, Thompson hit a two-run shot to left field to cut the lead to 9-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Carolina scored three more runs to take a 12-3 lead.

In the top of the eighth, [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 12-5. The Gamecocks got one of those runs back on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the inning.

With the loss, LSU drops to 25-5 and 6-4 in conference play. They will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m. CT. The Tigers will be fighting to stave off their first SEC series loss.

LSU melts down on the mound in Game 3 loss to Tennessee

The Tigers couldn’t quite pull off the sweep.

LSU is a perfect 3 for 3 in SEC series so far, but the Tigers are still looking for their first sweep of the season after taking one on the chin in Game 3 against the Tennessee Volunteers with a 14-7 loss on Saturday.

Thatcher Hurd got the start on the mound, and he had another very tough go of it. He allowed four hits and six earned runs before he was yanked in the first inning for [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag], who would pitch the next 5.2 innings but didn’t fare much better.

He allowed four runs in the fourth inning as UT led 10-0 after just a frame and a half. LSU got runs back in the bottom of the second and third, however, and Cooper settled in a bit after that.

The Tigers made things a bit interesting with a fourth-inning run in which a pair of two RBI base hits from [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] cut the deficit to just 10-6.

However, Cooper allowed a two-run homer in the sixth, and [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] gave up two more runs in the seventh. LSU got something going in the eight, but it only got one run out of it on a [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] RBI single.

With the loss, the Tigers move to 24-4 (6-3 SEC) on the season. They’ll face Nicholls at home in a Tuesday night midweek game before traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on the Gamecocks for a weekend series.

LSU baseball suffers first loss of the season against Iowa

The No. 1 LSU Tigers lost their first game of the year in a blowout loss to Iowa.

The No. 1 team in America according to every poll, the LSU Tigers, suffered their first loss of the year on Saturday against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the [autotag]Round Rock Classic[/autotag].

Friday night, the Hawkeyes lost to Sam Houston State 6-0, so they came into Saturday’s game extra motivated. [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] got the start on the mound for the Tigers today and Iowa got to him early, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Hawkeyes plated two more runs on Cooper before they chased him from the mound and [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] got to be the victim of their punishment.

Cooper’s final stat line was three innings pitched while giving up 7 hits and 5 runs with five strikeouts and one walk. Dutton was pulled after he pitched one inning and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. Just like that it was 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

LSU finally scored a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single after the Tigers loaded the bases on walks. LSU cut the lead to 7-2 and it looked like they might claw back into the game, but Iowa had other plans.

In the top of the eighth inning, Iowa scored 4 runs after an RBI single and a three-run homer to make the score 11-2. The game felt out of hand at that point, but LSU would not give up. Another RBI single from Crews scored [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] and a [autotag]Brady Jones[/autotag] sacrifice fly scored [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] to cut the lead to 11-4 after eight innings.

In the top of the ninth, Iowa scored their final run of the game with a solo homer to right field to make it 12-4 Hawkeyes. The Tigers were retired in order in the bottom of the inning.

With the loss, LSU drops to 5-1 on the season. They will finish the Round Rock Classic on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Sam Houston State.

LSU falls to Southern Miss in regional final rematch, Game 7 set for Monday afternoon

The Tigers couldn’t pull off a third straight comeback and will play with their season on the line Monday.

The LSU Tigers entered Sunday night’s game just one win away from advancing to the super regionals.

Just like on Saturday night, they trailed heading into the ninth inning against Southern Miss. But this time, there was no late-inning magic to win the game as the Golden Eagles won 8-4 and sent the regional to a winner-take-all Game 7 tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT.

The Tigers started the game off strong with a two-run [autotag]Cade Doughty[/autotag] dinger in the top of the first inning before [autotag]Samuel Dutton[/autotag] took the mound. In the bottom of the second, Southern Miss tied the game 2-2 with a couple of runs before chasing Dutton from the mound after only 2.1 innings.

In the top of the third inning, [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] scored on a Doughty single to give the Tigers the lead once again and Pearson scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2 LSU.

In the bottom of the third, the Golden Eagles scored two runs and tied the game once again. The 4-4 score would hold until the bottom of the sixth inning when [autotag]Eric Reyzelman[/autotag] came in to pitch after [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] walked the first batter.

Southern Miss proceeded to score three runs and make it a 7-4 game. In the bottom of the eighth, [autotag]Blake Money[/autotag] came in out of the bullpen, and he was greeted with a Golden Eagles home run to make it 8-4 as we headed to the top of the ninth.

[autotag]Jack Merrifield[/autotag], Crews, and [autotag]Jacob Berry[/autotag] were due up for the Tigers. Merrifield struck out looking, Crews struck out looking, Berry singled, Pearson was hit by a pitch and Doughty grounded out as the Tigers lost 8-4.

Game 7 will be tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. CT. The winner goes to the super regional to take on the winner of Miami and Ole Miss, and the loser goes home.
