Picking first to start an entire draft day happens to create a ton of reactions.

That’s the seat the Cincinnati Bengals sat in Friday to start Round 2. Zac Taylor and Co. went with the surround-Joe-Burrow approach with Clemson wideout Tee Higgins.

Higgins, a big-play threat, joins a big cast of weapons around Joe Burrow including A.J. Green, Joe Mixon, John Ross and Tyler Boyd. That’s where most of the reaction centered around — Cincinnati’s pursuit of a great developmental environment for Burrow.

Reactions from NFL players, analysts and some must-known stats were the prominent things to track after Taylor and Burrow got a new top option for the offense:

Oh, and one for the road Bengals fans might really enjoy:

Saints draft grades for picking Cesar Ruiz in the first round

The New Orleans Saints received grades from media outlets after picking Michigan center Cesar Ruiz in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

[jwplayer NLoBP6t7-ThvAeFxT]

The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is in the books, and draft grades are flying in from all around the media landscape. And so far, the reaction to the New Orleans Saints picking Michigan center/guard Cesar Ruiz is overwhelmingly positive. We graded the pick well ourselves, but it’s nice to see such a validating response from draft experts.

We’ll start out with some thoughts from our colleagues. K.D. Drummond over at Touchdown Wire gave the Saints an A grade, adding that Ruiz brings a wealth of experience — he snapped the ball 919 times for the Wolverines last year. Our own Luke Easterling at Draft Wire rated the pick with a B+, writing:

As a prospect, there’s plenty to like about Ruiz. He’s athletic and physical, with the intelligence every NFL coach and quarterback needs at his position. He’s also just 20 years old, giving him limitless upside.

He has experience at guard, so he could start his career there in New Orleans. No matter where he lines up, he’s going to be a fantastic addition to this offense.

The Ringer’s Danny Kelly was another draft expert who liked the pick, praising the Saints for investing in better protection for Drew Brees, and grading the move with a B+. Kelly noted that it’s a little confusing to guess how things might shake out with Erik McCoy entrenched at center, but he expects Ruiz, the highest-graded interior lineman on his board to start right away.

Meanwhile, Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News was slightly more lukewarm, grading the move with a B. While he’s a fan of Ruiz’s talents, he doesn’t anticipate the rookie playing much until right guard Larry Warford is out of the picture (maybe not until 2021, when his contract runs out).

And the lowest grade, by far, came from Bleacher Report’s Mike Tanier. While he’s high on Ruiz’s prospects, Tanier isn’t sure that the rookie is ready to start right away, much less taking over from a quality center in Erik McCoy. He graded the match with a B-, which is still a great mark considering how poorly the Saints have drafted in other years.

While he was just as perplexed by the fit in context of who the Saints already have, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports spoke highly of Ruiz’s projection in the longer view. He graded the Ruiz pick with an A. The Saints were one of just six teams to earn an A-grade from him in the first round. His explanation:

I love this player. Would go to the Pro Bowl for seven or eight years as a center. But where is he going to play for the Saints? I thought he’d be a great center, but he’ll probably play right guard for them. Good player, but strange pick by the Saints.

If the lowest grade the Saints earned for picking Ruiz was a B-, then they’re off to a pretty good start in this year’s draft. It’ll be fascinating to see how things shake out along the offensive line with him in the fold, but we still have six more rounds of draft picks to get through. stay tuned.

Twitter reacts to the Redskins selection of Chase Young

Social media was abuzz in Redskins circles as the Redskins used the No. 2 pick to draft Chase Young.

Chase Young is now packing his bags and heading to the District of Columbia where he will be the newest star on the Washington Redskins roster. This comes as no surprise, as the Redskins have been keen on drafting Young for months now. But with the pick officially made, it feels good to celebrate if you root for the Redskins.

Celebrate is exactly what fans and players did on Twitter Thursday nights after the pick was announced. While some players and coaches were involved in the Redskins’ Virtual Draft live stream, others took to social media to express their approval of the pick. Here are some of the best reactions:

Reactions from Texas’ loss to West Virginia

Texas suffered a devastating loss to WVU on Monday night, 97-59. It was even worse on Twitter, where fans voiced their frustrations.

Texas suffered a devastating loss to West Virginia on Monday night, losing on the road, 97-59. A new low point for the basketball program under Head Coach Shaka Smart, it was not a pretty scene post-game for the Longhorns, as frustrations started to become apparent.

It was even worse on Twitter, where fans voiced their frustrations with the direction the team was headed. Not projected to make the NCAA tournament right now, the expectations of this team were to at least be competitive in the conference. The Longhorns have failed to meet those expectations, losing by double digits for the fifth time this season.

Unai Emery got sacked and Arsenal fans couldn’t be happier

Some Arsenal fans were reflective, but most were delighted by the sacking of Unai Emery.

It’s over. Arsenal’s long, global nightmare is over.

Unai Emery was dismissed as head coach of the London club on Friday, following an embarrassing 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League this week.

Club legend Freddie Ljungberg, who had been serving as an assistant coach with the team, will step into an interim role while they search for a new head coach.

Emery has overseen kind of a bizarre tenure with the club, with some good results, a lot of bad results, and some weird, weird player management along the way. (The whole Granit Xhaka-as-captain thing will probably have a book written about it one day.)

Emery never seemed to get his footing, and after a run of poor results, it apparently became clear to club owner Stan Kroenke (he of the Rams), that the situation was untenable.

That’s all well and good. What was really great was seeing how Arsenal fans reacted to the sacking. Gaze upon their joy!

Boxing world reacts to Deontay Wilder’s wild, one-punch knockout of Luis Ortiz

Luis Ortiz had comfortably won the first six rounds of the fight, but all it takes is one punch from Deontay Wilder.

Luis Ortiz was beating Deontay Wilder on Saturday night in their heavyweight fight. It was the seventh round, and for a lot of boxing experts, Ortiz had won the first six … and was on his way to winning the seventh.

Wilder looked out of sorts, uncomfortable, not able to handle the technique of Ortiz.

Then Wilder punched him so hard it ended the fight.

This is what Deontay Wilder is really good at doing! And people can knock him for not having any boxing talent, but punching someone extremely hard is a talent.

It also makes the heavyweight division, long irrelevant and now getting back in the spotlight finally, such an interesting one. To hang with Wilder, you can’t just be a good boxer, as Ortiz showed he was on Saturday night. You have to be able to take a Wilder punch.

Here’s a clip of the knockout:

And here was how the boxing world reacted to the fight.

Twitter reacts to Bucs’ brutal loss to Saints

The Bucs were searching for a much-needed victory against the Saints in Sunday’s crucial NFC matchup.

The Bucs were searching for a much-needed victory against the Saints in Sunday’s crucial NFC matchup, but instead, Jameis Winston and company, unfortunately, walked out of Raymond James Stadium with a gut-wrenching 37-17 loss.

Tampa Bay’s first touchdown of the day came from Peyton Barber on a 6-yard touchdown. Jameis Winston’s 48-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Scotty Miller set the Bucs up with first-and-goal from the one-yard line with less than three minutes remaining in the second quarter and Barber was able to put the Buccaneers on the board.

Rookie kicker Matt Gray then added three points to the scoreboard after nailing a 55-yard field goal, making the score 20-10 after the Saints got off to a solid start.

In an effort to stay alive and turn things around, Chris Godwin tried to keep the Bucs’ hopes alive by hauling in their second touchdown of the day and his seventh receiving touchdown of the season, adding another 7 for Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, however, numerous turnovers, multiple mistakes, and some miscommunication, unfortunately, cost Tampa Bay the game. With the loss, the Bucs are sitting at 3-7 this season while the Saints now improve to 8-2.

Here’s a closer look at what Twitter is saying following their loss:
